Downloads do not finish in Safari and Firefox

Hey guys,
new to this forum, so be easy on me...
I just bought a Macboko Unibody a few weeks ago, and for some reason, when I try and download certain files, they don't completely download, however Safari and Firefox believe they're complete (i.e. an incomplete mp3 file will launch in itunes).
Any help on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

with all due respect, I'm pretty sure I did answer your question.
No, you didn't. To answer my question you'd have to explain how you determined that a downloaded file in fact stopped downloading early as opposed to downloading to completion but becoming corrupted during the download process. I didn't see such an explanation in your posts. I'd argue that if the size of a downloaded file is near the expected value, it's impossible to tell the difference between a corrupt download and an incomplete download. Actually, which of the two cases is true is much less interesting than the fact that the downloaded file isn't usable. But by claiming that "downloads do not finish" you're assuming a cause that may not be true.
Here's an example of the type of thing you may be facing: I've seen a post on this message board by someone who kept trying to download a large Apple software update but the resulting file was unusable due to a checksum error. He was finally able to download the file successfully by removing his router and connecting his computer directly to his broadband modem. Evidently his router introduced enough instability into his download process to cause corruption.
I've downloaded the exact same files (from the same link) from another computer, with complete success.
That only proves that those files can be downloaded given a correctly-functioning data connection.
I've also attempted (as described above) to download some of the files one at a time, and that seems to work properly.
Downloading multiple files at the same time could put extra stress on a marginal connection.

  • Command + R (Refresh) not working in Safari and Firefox need Help!

I been having trouble with Command + R (Refresh) in Safari and Firefox for a while, I used to have a MBP 2006 intel 2.4 running Leopard when the problem started, but since I was planning to change to a new computer I didn't pay much attention.
Recently I got a MBP w/ Retina and migrated the info from my old Mac to the new one, and it seem like the Command + R problem to refresh in Safari and Firefox has been brought with the migration.
Another pointer is that I have my mac setup in Spanish although it was setup in English before. This does not seem to be the problem.
Any Ideas on how can I solve this?
    Than in advance.

Recently Safari started slowing and presenting the infamous spinning wheel of death whenever page has anything flash in it. Since many pages have ads coming in on flash many pages are effected. I almost thought that I had a virus on machine, being a PC guy for 20 plus year prior you can get, pun intended, flashbacks of deadly blue screen etc. Was happening on both my machines readily apparent on homepage msnbc and the like. I cleared caches etc etc infinitum thought I was back on Windows for a minute. I know from listening to various Mac tech shows on twit.tv that Apple apparently is not fond of flash programming as evidenced that flash not on Itouch or Ipad. But what, trying to kil it on regular machines?
When I first came to apple a couple years ago I was using Google Chrome browser on MSFT macines and loved it but atthe time Chrom did not make Mac version. I used Safari and was happy enough UNTIL LATELY with it not to bother with other browsers. NO MORE, so went hunting and happily found that Chrome for Mac available. AMAZINGLY no problems so far msnbc loads, without exaggeration, TEN times faster than on safari, no spiining wheels of death EVERYTHING faster like someone gave my Mac's a B12 shot and restored them to how they used to be. Easily transferred all favorites over simple import.
So far only down side I have found was that bank statement pdf downloads and the like that Safari had bottom screen popup to one click download not on Chrome and print to pdf doesn't seem to do it right so far but I amstill playing. So when I do bank statements I fire up Sarari and suffer the speed.
There is no reason for this APPLE!!! If you are not going to have Safari be the best browser out there for a mac then you should dump it and recommend sometghign else. Please don;t be like MSFT and Internet Explorer junk!

  • IWeb internal hyperlinks not working on Safari and Firefox

I've just finished creating my website using iweb and hosting it through an FTP server. However all but one of the hyperlinks to internal pages don't work when viewing it on Safari or Firefox on either a PC or a MAC. They just appear as text and you can't hover over them. External hyperlinks appear to work as normal.
In addition blog entries i've created aren't shown in their entirety on Internet Explorer. You can access the blog using the 'Archives' link on safari or firefox (the only internal link that does work) and i can see the complete entry but this is not the case of IE. It is just missing half of the text.
What am i doing wrong? I really want to get these bugs fixed asap.

Ah, good call. I will try that when I return home. Strange that safari and firefox would have an issue with this but not internet explorer. Seems so simple but still getting my head around working a website, thanks. Will comment if it doesn't work.
But can anyone explain to me why the only blog entry "shooting on an iphone" would not appear in it's entirety on iternet explorer 9, when it appears on fine on safari, firefox and iternet explorer 7 & 8. It just stops at the heading 'lessons learned'

  • Javascript not working in Safari and Firefox

in stead of rendering the html generated by javascript, the html code itself is displayed in both Safari and Firefox.
The strange thing is that this is only for one of my accounts. This account was transferred using the migration tool from my previous computer, where I also had this problem.
A brand new generated user account does not show this problem.

    HI,
    In the affected account...
From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the Security tab.
Make sure: Enable plug-ins and Enable Java and Enable JavaScript are selected.
Since you are running Snow Leopard, make sure Safari is running in 32-bit mode, not 64. Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click: Get Info In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle next to General so it faces down. Select 32 bit mode. Also, (in that same window) *make sure Safari is NOT running in Rosetta.*
    Relaunch Safari.

  • Shortcuts not working on Safari and Firefox

I just upgraded to Yosemite and have the following problem: no shortcuts for menu commands work anymore on Safari or Firefox. Simple test: start Safari and click cmd-Q to quit. Normally it should just quit. on my Macbook it doesn't. On Firefox, the menu bar flashes once, but that's about it.
    A few facts:
Macbook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013)
Mac OS 10.10 installed and running
Both, Safari and Firefox, are upgraded to the latest versions.
    No keyboard additions installed
    Swiss keyboard installed
    Nothing changed regarding keyboard preferences
Anybody else experiencing the same or has any idea, how to fix it?
    TIA

Problem solved. It all had to do with the primary language (NOT the keyboard) set to Swiss German, instead of just German. Seems a bug to me, but at least I have a workaround.

  • YouTube not working in Safari and Firefox (OSX 10.8)

Just bought a new 13" MacBook Pro (4 days old) that came with 10.8 installed.  YouTube is not working and I keep getting this message in Firefox:
    "The page isn't redirecting properly:
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.
This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies."
Pretty much the same message in Safari.  Made sure all setting are correct (cookies etc) cleared history and all that stuff.  All other Flash based content plays without a problem, it's just YouTube.

Mountain Lion is kind of ******.  At this moment all Flash content is not working in both Firefox and Safari.  Reinstalled Flash Player and still nothing.  It's playing no problem on my 5 year old MacBook with Snow Leopard.
Is anyone else having these problems?

At the top right of this site you will see Search Discussions.
In the blank search window w/the magnifying glass in the left corner type Quicktime and question mark.
You will then find several troubleshooting solutions pertaining to your issue for you to try out.
    Good luck!

  • Safari and Firefox will not download from a particular site

    Greetings,
I own a Dual 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4 (FW800) with 2 MB L3 cache per processor and 1 GB DDR SDRAM with the Mac OS X Version 10.4.11
My Safari version is 4.1.2 (4533.18.5)
    My Firefox version is 3.6.10
I want to access this site for the information that it contains:
    http://www.gis.mt.gov/
Safari has never worked with this site.
Firefox has worked very well for the past 2 years.
Recently, very recently, both browsers do NOT work with this site. I called the state's technical support and was informed:
    1) That it is a hit or miss possibility for Safari and Firefox to work properly with this site; and,
    2) That the site is optimized to operate with Internet Explorer for Windows.
I am unable to find and to download a recent version of Internet Explorer for Mac. Microsoft ended support for this browser (version 5.2.3) on 12/31/2006. I did download this version and it did not work.
    Open this site: http://www.gis.mt.gov/
Click on “Property Map” located in upper left area of the screen.
On new drop-down, click on the “OK” button
A new window should appear with a map of Montana, with outlines of its 56 counties. If this map does NOT appear; then, the problem is being shown.
If this map of counties does appear; then, GREAT.
On this new window and in lower right hand corner choose a city and click on the “Go” button. A new window with the city shown should appear. If this city does not appear; then, there is the problem.
In the past I have used the “Property Map” most of the time because it contains information most useful to me. I want to continue using this “Property Map” into the future. The problem is that my results with both Safari and Firefox is a blank window after completing the above steps.
    Help ! ! What can I do different/change/modify?

There is your answer. Many US Government sites are the same - they simply WILL NOT follow the necessary web standards to make them Apple and/or Safari compliant.
The only thing you can try is to go to Safari's Develop Menu and try using Internet Explorer as the User Agent.

Not really a reply just some added info:
This is the error message I get saying the internet is not on, but clearly as I can send this message it has to be:
To open “Java Preferences,” you need to install a Java runtime, but you are not connected to the Internet.
I am connected through Wi-fi if that makes a difference.

  • When I turn on firefox the sound of an alarm begins and keeps going. I did not download or add or open anything. A sound like the old pacman game initiates the never ending alarm. It does not occur with safari and ends if I close firefox.

  • Safari and Firefox not loading pages

Safari and Firefox are now selectively not loading certain pages. Sites like penny-arcade.com and staffingnow.com give me a ...
Safari can’t connect to the server.
Safari can’t open the page “http://www.staffingnow.com/” because it could not connect to the server “www.staffingnow.com”.
message. Now I have tried to empty my cookies, my cache, I have cleared all data that can be cleared. I've renewed my DHCP lease, reset my router, restarted my computer, etc and none of it seems to help.
I've tried loading them on my girlfriend's pc and they load up fine.
    Any ideas?

Having the same problem here, only I dont have firefox. Safari refuses to load my webpage www.epicvideo.com.au yet any other computer can access it. I have another site, with the same server, on a similar but cheaper plan, that loads every time.
I have no problems with download speeds, but from reading discussions, some individual sites, hand-picked by Safari, refuse to load. My business website is the only site Safari wont load - I get the error "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)" - frustrating when running a business!!!!
Ive done it all to, emptied the cache, reset safari, deleted all my book marks (yay), turned off my modem, restarted my server, spoken to tech staff at my STMP and website server... even Mac Heads at Telstra... no answers.
Lastly, im finding discussions not helping too much either, cause im just deleting files and changing settings etc - something that will surely cause me more grief!!

  • Both Safari and Firefox will not load webpage

This is an issue in both Safari and Firefox (I use Firefox as my default, but since it's happening in Safari too, I figured I could post the problem here). I frequently visit Crate & Barrel's website and cb2.com, and as of recent I have not been able to load the site. I've tried on both my eMac (Safari and Firefox) and on my new iMac. I was able to load the page on a windows computer in my house. I'm not sure if I ever viewed their website on my iMac since it's new as of last month. On the eMac I visited the site often. Why all of the sudden would I not be able to load the website? Any help is greatly appreciated!

You have to love when Customer Service reps don't actually read your message:
    To Crate & Barrel:
"I recently have not been able to access the Crate&Barrel

the site on a Windows computer. I am using Firefox, so it can't be an

does not work either. I used to visit the site often on my eMac and
never had any issues loading the page. Any ideas as to what the problem
may be? And why all of the sudden? Any help is appreciated."
    Crate & Barrel's Response:
    "Thank you for your email.
