Downloads no longer go into "Download Folder"?

I went to preferences and attempted to change downloads from"Download Folder to manual so it would show up in View.
Silverlight which had attempted to have me install it captured it - strange?  Silverlight was in the space where Download Folder had been.  I could only click on other which took me to Silverlight and no other choices.
I removed Silverlight but it still showed for where my downloads go in Preferences.  I attempted to remove it and now "Macintosh HD" is in the space where "Download Folder" used to be.
"Show Downloads" still is grayed out in View.  How do I correct this and have "Show Downloads" opens in View?
Did I not completely get rid of Silverlight.  I hate when a Plug-in just moves in and won't leave.
Help please.
Thank you.

  • Downloads Folder No Longer Jumps Up When Saving Attachments

When saving attachments in Mail, my downloads folder on the Doc used to jump up a couple of times when I hit "save" from within an email that I received to signify that I just saved it into that folder.
However, for no rhyme or reason, the downloads folder no longer jumps up when I save attachments. The attachment still save in to that folder but I miss the pop-up action telling me that it did.
I searched the net and posts and found nothing on this quark. This is driving me nutz!
    Please help!

Check in System Preferences>Dock and check off Animate opening applications and see if that doesn't do it. Not sure if that is why but it is worth a shot.

  • I am using Flash Got to integrate my Download Accelerator Plus into FF7, now, in the Advanced options tab, I have C:\Users\SCARLET\Downloads, so my games can be d/l there, but they are not, they're going into another folder. HELP!

Well, basically, I want my game downloads to go into that folder. When I used DAP with Flash Got the first time, it did. Now, it doesn't want to go there. It only goes into the "My DAP Dowloads" folder. I checked the Flash Got website, but when it explained about the Flash Got options, it didn't give any help about that?

    Many thanks.

  • When installing Firefox 35 into Windows 7 running inside VMware Fusion on a Mac, into which folder should I put the downloaded Firefox installer file?

Inside Windows I see a folder called PROGRAM FILES and another one called PROGRAM FILES (X86). Is either of these the correct one to put the Firefox installer program into before I launch the installer? There is also a folder called WINDOWS. Sorry for such an elementary question but I've never been a Windows user; just Macs so far until now. My intention is to download the Windows version of Firefox using a browser on the Mac side of the computer since I have working browsers there. Then I would copy the ".exe" file to whichever Windows folder is correct. Am I on the right track or am I courting disaster?
Also, will there be a preference inside Firefox to make it the default browser in the Windows environment? I'd like to avoid using Internet Explorer.
( I'm writing this from the Firefox browser, v. 28.0 in the Mac OS (10.6.8). I didn't click the "Automatically Add" button for submitting troubleshooting information because I'm not asking about the browser in the Mac OS environment.)
    Thank you.

The full Windows install file from for instance https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ is an executable dot.exe file.
It will run from anywhere the user has the correct permissions, incluing the desktop or the downloads folder. It will offer standard or custom installs, usually opt for the standard install and the necessary flies and folders will be created.

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop

Everytime I open Safari it downloads a series of blank.aspx files into my downloads folder. Anyone having the same problem?

Has there been a fix for this yet?  I am downloading close to 150 blank aspx files every 15 minutes.  I have tried the fix from Carolyn Samit and the AdBlock seems to be working thus far, but when it is not working it launches Adobe Dreamweaver.  Which is going berzerker.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Why has my iPad downloaded over 7000 spam messages into a folder called gmail/all mail?  I have not set up a gmail account on my iPad

Why has my iPad downloaded over 7000 spam messages into a folder called gmail/all mail?  I have not set up a gmail account on my iPad

No you will not have to set up the iPad all over again. Resetting the iPad is like rebooting your computer. You will lose no apps, data, settings .... Nothing at all. I like to use the expression that it's like "clearing out the cobwebs" on the iPad's memory.
The reason I am suggesting this is that there are some other sort of bizarre issues that occur in the mail app and the reset seems to clear up those issues. So I think it is worth a try.
On the other hand, if you have restored the iPad to factory settings, I don't know that it will help. If nothing else works, try going to your web mail using a browser and see if you can't deal with this in there.

  • My Download folder no longer shows downloaded files

I have a MacBook. I changed nothing that I know of. Suddenly when I download files they say they're going to the Download folder but when I open the folder to retrieve (or clean out) old files, there's nothing visible. It appears the file is empty.
I have no other option to choose from while downloading. They just automatically go to the folder. Yet the folder's empty.
What am I doing wrong? Where are the files?
I do NOT have a Download folder in my deck. (Never have.)
How do I fix this? (I need to download files from work and many of them don't allow me to "Save" as.
    Any help here?
    Thanks!

    Hi ...
Assuming you are using Safari ... might be a corrupted preference file (.plist)
    Quit Safari if it's open.
    Go to   ~/Library/Safari
Move the Downloads.plist file from the Safari folder to the Trash.
Relaunch Safari. Try downloading a file.

  • Can't download purchases due to download folder permissions on NAS

I downloaded several podcasts using my iPhone whilst away at Christmas. My media library is stored on a Buffalo NAS with the library xml stored locally and after syncing with iTunes I can no longer download new purchases reporting error - 5000.
"There was a problem downloading ************. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation.
Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again."
I've investigated exhaustively to solve the issue. Apple's iTunes Store troubleshooting suggests the following:
If you encounter this issue while while downloading something from the iTunes Store:
Delete your iTunes Downloads folder, located in:
    Mac OS X:
~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads   Note: "iTunes Media" may appear as "iTunes Music. Also, the tilde (~)  refers to your Home directory.
However, I can't delete the Downloads folder because I do not have sufficient access permissions. Worth noting that the files on the Downloads folder correspond to those downloaded by my iPhone so the iPhone has caused this issue, even though I have been able to perform this task away from home before without these issues before iCloud and Match came along.
So, now I'm faced with a Downloads folder that I cannot delete even using Sudo rm -rf in terminal, CHOWN, CHMOD or even MV to relocate the files. There are no answers on this issue on the Buffalo forums so I am opening this frustrating issue up to the geniuses on the apple discussions group to see if anyone can help. Thanks

Okay, I solved it myself - surprisingly.
I logged into the NAS using Telnet as 'root' and this allowed me to delete the 'Downloads' directory without any permission issues. After re-opening iTunes it was able to download the backed-up purchases without error.
I don't know if the iPhone will cause permission issues again down the line though, so this may well be a bug in the latest iTunes version?

  • Could someone clarify some questions I have about the download folder?

I use my computer mainly for audio recording. I'm constantly downloading updates to virtual instruments, updates for programs, new applications, etc. Once I download something and install it, can I delete the file from the download folder? If it's an application, do I need to drag it from the download folder into applications?
Also, there are lots of .dmg files. I've always wondered about these. Once I have opened it and installed the program, is there any need to save them? Or can I trash them? As you can see from the screen shot, some of those files are really big and I'd like to get rid of them.

If you no longer need a downloaded file you can delete it.
Downloaded applications need to be installed in the Applications folder. You do not drag anything from the Downloads folder to the Applications folder unless you are draggin an Application from an archive or disc image.

  • Downloaded purchases are stuck in 'Downloads' folder

I purchased some songs today, and my PC crashed while downloading. Once I rebooted, I was missing one song from my purchases. I checked for purchases. All purchases had been downloaded, so I searched for the file using Windows. I found the missing song file in the iTunes folder, but in a subfolder called 'downloads'. The music file is there, along with a small file called 'Info-Quicktime Preferences'. Instead of the music file having the name of the song, it's called 'Download'. When I import the file in to My Music, it won't play, iTunes will not locate the track info, and the file type is M4A instead of M4P. How do I get iTunes to process and recognize this purchase and play it?

I kinda had the same problem but with tv shows instead of songs. I found a way to move the tv shows, in your case the music, into the itunes, but not as a tv show, as a movie. I don't know if this going to help but it might get you on the right track. This is what i did:
I know that it's going to be long, so stick with me:
open "my computer" and find your "downloads" file in the "itunes music" folder. Then open another "my computer" and get into your itunes "tv shows" folder, or in your case you'll have to find where ever itunes has sent your music that you KNOW YOU HAVE IN ITUNES. Lets say you have 2 folder's in there, your "downloads" folder and a "family man" folder, or whatever folder it is for you; one containing your missing episodes/music (downloads), and the other your episodes/music that you KNOW YOU HAVE (family man). On my computer 1 click into downloads folder and go all the way till you see the missing episodes/music, NOT THE THE FOLDERS, you want the files.
On my computer 2 open your "family man" folder/whatever you found, and drag missing episodes/music into "family man" folder/whatever you found.
Once you have that, you should be able to see the missing episodes/music somewhere in itunes. I really wish i could tell you where but i really don't know. It may show right up in your music section, then it may not.
I don't know if this will help, but it's maybe worth try, it know this worked for my missing episodes.

  • How do I delete items in my download folder

I'm trying to clean up my ccomputer. How can I delete the huge number of downloads in the Download folder?

I don't like to leave anything in the Downloads folder.
Reason - I leave it set to display as Stack, and so as long as it is empty, I get an immediate visual indication if a download initiates. This can happen when I intentionally download something, which is okay; or if I accidentally click a poorly labelled download link or something auto-downloads, neither of which is okay. This allows me to quickly halt a download before it completes.
If there is somethingin the Downloads folder, it masks that visual indication.
What do I do with stuff I download?
As soon as the download is complete I drag the item out to the Desktop, then, as appropriate -
    • drop it into a To Be Installed folder if I'm not ready yet to install it yet; or
    • install it if it is an isntallable item, then drop the installer file into another folder for storage (I'm a pack rat); or
    • put it wherever it belongs if it is a file or set of files. This can include another holding folder on the Desktop, To Be Processed.
In any case, I get it out of the Downloads folder.

  • Downloaded files (dmg)  remain on download folder should I delete

hi, I noticed that whenever I download something from the internet such as yahoo messenger, limewire, clamx, there's this .dmg file in the download folder that always remain. Should I erase it without ruining the files that I downloaded?
Ex. if I delete the .dmg file for the yahoo messenger, will it still work on my mac. I hate junk files

In general, think of a disk image file (.dmg) as just like an installer disk that you would insert into the optical drive to install an application. Once a real installer disk has installed an app, you eject it because it is no longer needed -- its application "payload" now is on your hard drive. You generally should keep the disk handy somewhere in case the installed version develops a problem or is deleted by accident & you have to reinstall it.
It is the same for disk images, except that you can (usually) just download them again from the same source if you need them again. There are exceptions though: sometimes an older version is no longer available after a new one is released & you discover that for one reason or another you need the older version. Some downloads require a registration process you may want to avoid repeating. Occasionally, the source site may disappear from the Internet or experience temporary problems like a server going down.
Because of this, some people save some or all of their downloaded disk image files locally. One approach is to collect a number of them in another folder & then burn that to a CD or DVD when the folder grows large enough, after which the folder or its contents are deleted to reclaim hard drive space.
BTW, it is always a good idea to download & install applications only from trusted sources. With Limewire or other P2P methods, you have no guarantee that what you install has not been tampered with, is uncorrupted, or is even what it claims to be.
