Downloads to Different folder than Downloads

Does anyone know if it is possible to set Safari up so it ASKS me what folder I want to put a download in? Firefox allows this but Safari as far as I can figure just gives me the option to download into the The Download folder. I want to organize it without having to got to the download folder and move it to where I want it. I checked Preferences and this option isn't listed.

You can Control-click on the link for the file you want to download and choose "Download Linked File As…". That will bring up the Save As… dialog box where you can choose where to save it.

You change the generate folder and filename in the first field on the first page of the wizard. It must be a folder on your hard disk.
You change the publish folder in the last page of the wizard. Anywhere you like.

To change the screenshot capture location to a new place on your Mac, first think of a location that would serve you properly. We like to place ours in a "Screenshot" folder located inside of the User's "Pictures" folder. To change the location to this new location, open the Terminal and enter the following command:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/[u]/Pictures/Screenshots/
Replace "[u]" with the name of the user on your system. Once you have entered this command, let's restart the screen capture utility by restarting the SystemUIServer by entering the following command:
killall SystemUIServer
You can optionally log out and back in instead of entering this second command, thus restarting the SystemUIServer. Once restarted, all screen captures taken from here on out will end up in your /Pictures/Screenshots/ folder in the User's home folder on your Mac.

I recently rebuilt my computer and reinstalled everything from WinXP to security software to Firefox, and I cannot find any options anywhere to set a different folder like I used to have it... with the same software, other than it being a newer iteration of Ff. How do I create an action to save as, but into a different folder than the one I used to create the action?

I am having an issue with my action being created to save under the same folder that my action was created with. For instance, I opened an image, recorded the action, then I went to a different folder to play the action, but it saves to the previous folder. How do I add some way to change the folder I want my pics to save to?

Consolidating library but to a different folder than itunes music

so if i consolidate my library, will it all just be copied to my "itunes music" folder? or can i create a different folder and have my library consolidated to that folder? here's my problem: i have lots and lots of music, and whenever i get more, i put it in the "itunes music" folder, so as to never get confused. but, i have started to sift through my music and have deleted countless songs just to save space. but i only deleted them off of itunes, therefore the files are still in the "itunes music" folder and hogging space. there are far too many files in there to just sift through and find the ones i deleted and delete them off my hard drive, so i would like to just copy all the files that are still in my itunes library to a different folder and then delete the old "itunes music" folder. see what i mean? please help

Hi I work with a lot of password protected word documents (can't be viewed in quick look)... and often want to look at the changes that are made with previous versions. Is there a way to be able to restore time machine backups to a different folder so it doesnt overwrite the current version

Yes, you can!
While in the TM interface, just choose the file(s) that you want to restore to a different location, click on the Gear Icon and choose "Copy ...". Then come out of the TM browser by clicking Cancel or pressing Esc key and browse over to the destination folder in the Finer. Right click and choose "Paste ...". This will restore the file from your chosen backup to this folder.

News in different folder than /documents/News

Hi!
I've to display different News for different users/roles.
I've created deltalinks for the news-iView (com.sap.km.NewsBrowser_0) and entered the path to the initial displayed folder /documents/Public Documents/group1/HotNews and the path to the rootfolder for navigation to the same value.
When starting the browser for a user of this group, the News-Browser displays a message "No entry's found", but there are files in the folder.
The files and the folder's rights are set to "full rights".

For creating news authoring iview create news by using xml form builder (i.e)
goto content management-> goto public documents->folder-> new->forms->sap demo news.
Here create the news u need and add to a folder
Now create a KM Navigational iview
In the properties of tht iview:
1)path to initially displayed folder: (root of folder containing news eg:/documents,/Public Documents/foldername)
check the path of your correctly and give above.
2)Layout set : NewsExplorer (if u want to give this iview to news authors for editing for creating news )
or else
NewsBrowser(if u want to give this iview to general users)

Using GetResource to get a file from a different folder than bin

Hi guys,
here is the line of code I am working with:
final static URL musicD = Sound.class.getResource("Sound//MusicD.mid")this loads MusicD.mid from the project/bin/Sound folder. However, SVN messes up my bin folder badly, how can I get a resource from the project folder, or better yet project/sound folder as opposed to the bin folder? Thanks!
P.S. I am on a tight deadline, so a straight answer would be very helpful, what I dont need is more smug advice! =) thanks!

Archiving/zipping to different folder

Normally the Finder Archive function (accessible e.g. from contextual menu in Finder) archives to a .zip archive in the same folder as the original object being archived.
The Finder Archive function use BOMArchiveHelper, which is in:
/System/Library/CoreServices/BOMArchiveHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/BOMArchiveHelpe r
So the same archiving can be achieved in an AppleScript by the following statement:
do shell script "/System/Library/CoreServices/BOMArchiveHelper.app/Contents/MacOS/BOMArchiveHel per" "theUnixname"
where theUnixname is the Unix name of the file or folder being zipped. This works.
My question is the following: Is there any option to BOMArchiveHelper that permits the resulting file to be in a different folder than the original file or folder? This would permit archiving directly to another disk, e.g. an external hard disk, without first copying the uncompressed files or without using disk utility to make a compressed disk image.
(The reason I would like to use the zip files is that they are more universal than the compressed disk images. And I want to use BOMArchiveHelper rather than another ZIP program such as ZipIT because the Macintosh structure with resource forks is preserved by BOMArchiveHelper in a way that still permits the ZIP archive to be opened on e.g. a Windows or Linux machine, which is not the case for the MacBinary implementation in ZipIt).

Start webserver in different folder

I've developed a compiled VI (Smarts-Net.exe) that was built to run in a specific folder (\Smarts-Net), and enabled the webserver to show the Smarts-Net.html page in that same folder. So far, so good.
The application received real-time data generated from another of our programs and generates graphics to show 'what's going on'.
My customers would like to run multiple instances of my program for their customers, but want to isolate their Customer 'A' from Customer 'B' so that they can't view each other's data. I can start up my applicaiton using different IP ports so that I can have multiple views, but I'd like to further isolate the end-customer's data into different folders.
I've made a 'manager' program that will create a sub-folder from my main application's folder (\Smarts-Net) so that it would appear like '\Smarts-Net\JobA', and copies all files from the main folder into the new sub-folder. I then modify the Smarts-Net.ini file with the new folder path and the new port number like this:

This is where I need some help. If I try to view the VI from another computer using an address like http://snape:9600/JobA/Smarts-Net.html, I get a 'HTTP 404 - File not found' error. But, if I try it at http://snape:9600/Smarts-Net.html, I get the VI's panel!
So, it appears that I can change the Port in the .ini file, but not the RootPath. Does anyone know of a way to get the html to load from a different folder than the one specified when I built the application?

A word of caution:
Nothing we have talked about here is a security mechanism. If you have two web servers on different ports they will still be available to anyone. In fact if they serve up the same document root then all web pages will be available at either port. Don't count on this as a way to keep one customer from accessing another customer's pages.
For example:
Lets say you set up one instance of your application for customer A. The document root is C:\Smarts-Net. The URL to customer A's page is http://computer:APort/jobA/A'sPage.html.
Customer B also has a separate instance of the application but it us using the same document root, C:\Smarts-Net. Customer B's URL is http://computer:BPort/jobB/B'sPage.html.
You have two web servers running on two different ports but since they are serving the same document root all the same pages are available. Customer A could navigate to the URL http://computer:APort/jobB/B'sPage.html.
If you really need security you will have to setup something a little more sophisticated than just using a different port.

When saving downloads is there a way to instruct Firefox to save the download to a different folder other than the default?

I downloaded a printer driver to Firefox's default downloads. I started the exe file and a window opened so I could install the driver. I selected run, and the window closed and nothing happened. I finally had to use MS IE in order to save the file to a different folder. I was then able to decompress the file and install it. Is there an option in Firefox to override the default downloads folder with a folder of my choosing? Running Win 7 Home Prem 64 bit, FF 5.0.1.

This is the same issue that has plagued me for years. I always thought that this was a Flash plugin issue, but it does occur on HTML5 as well. A friend of mine verified that this does not occur in Linux, but only on Windows. It would be great to have this fixed, as it's honestly the only thing that's making me use Chrome all the time, as I don't want to have multiple browsers open.

Get info on the drive. What format? FAT drives may be behave erratically for heavy-duty use of the kind you are doing. It's okay to leave a flash drive FAT formatted for light use but for heavy-duty file transfer I think you can encounter issues.
iTunes does not look at files directly. It maintains a database (library.itl) of the files in its collection. When you play a track it looks up where that file is located and goes and plays the file in that location. If you manually move a file or folder used by iTunes that database is no longer correct and you get broken links ( ! ). If you want to move files or folders with iTunes you have to let iTunes do it. Since iTunes is organizing your library there isn't much flexibility in what you can do other than move the whole collection to a different folder by changing the media location preference in preferences.

In Organise Bookmarks/Search I want to move a search result bookmark into a different folder, but it "copies" rather than "moves" - how can I "move" it?

Having got a list of bookmarks as the result of a Search in "Organise Bookmarks", I want to move one of the resulting bookmarks to a different folder.
If I move the bookmark into a folder on the left hand pane - it copies it.
If I hold the shift key down and move it - it copies it.
If I hold the control key down and move it - it copies it.
If I hold both the control and shift key down, the icon does change from a "+" sign to an arrow, but - you guessed it - it still copies it.
All I want to do is a simple move!
I'm probably doing something daft. Please let me know what it is!
I'm using Firefox 17.0.1 if that's of any relevance.

Hello mara1618, go from Firefox button > Bookmarks, touch the folder and when expand all folder bookmarks, drag the bookmark you want to another folder.
