Downsize Public Folders for Migration to Office 365

To migrate public folders, I have been following this link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj983799%28v=exchg.150%29.aspx
However, this customer's public folders are exceeding well over 50GB. There are contacts and a calendar. I am looking for assistance/advice on downsizing public folders for migrating to Office 365.

To reduce the public folder's size prior to the migration, you can try to delete the old content or split it into multiple smaller public folders.

I am performing a Public Folder Migration to Office 365 according to the steps at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj983799(v=exchg.150).aspx#Scripts. I made it down to Step 5, substep 5 where we are supposed to start the migration with a

So...I double-checked the authentication setting on Outlook Anywhere...it says Basic. But, when I changed to NTLM in the command line, it seems like it is working. However, now I get the following error:

Migrating to Office 365, keeping Lync Server 2010 on Premise

Hi,
I have a Lync Server 2010 on Premises implemented, it is use a UM Sever to connect with Exchange Server 2010.
I migrate to Office 365 Exchange Online and keep all the Lync Server On Premise current functionalities, including "Conversations history", total connection between Lync Server and mailboxes (on O365) for conference calls and Web conferences?

If you want to integration Lync 2010 integration with Exchange online, you must configure Edge server in your on-premises Lync Server 2010 deployment by completing the following tasks:
Configure a shared SIP address space
Configure a hosting provider on the Edge Server
Create a DNS Record for Integration with Hosted Exchange
Verify replication of the updated Central Management store

Disabling AD Autodiscover while migrating to Office 365

I'm in the middle of migrating from Exchange 2007 to Office 365. I can autodiscover to the Office 365 service successfully in every instance except when I'm on a PC joined to the AD domain and the domain is accessible. I have added a registry
key on my test PC that keeps it from using the AD SCP to autodiscover but it still gets my Exchange server mailbox instead of the Office 365 mailbox even without using SCP.
If I remove the PC from the domain, it works both locally and remotely so I know all my other settings are okay, it's only giving me this issue when it's a domain member and is running local to the AD domain. Tried a laptop, joined it to the domain,
took it home and let it autoconfigure, worked great. Same laptop, when local to the domain, tries to autoconfigure using the local Exchange server settings.
I'd like to give my users back their Outlook (rather than OWA) after I migrate them. How do I prevent my locally deployed, AD-joined computers from getting autodiscover info from my local Exchange CAS server while I complete my migration to Office
365?

I ran into the same problem. I came up with a work around but I’m not sure this is the correct approach.
First, with Outlook 2010 already installed I had to run the Set up and configure your Office desktop apps from Office 365. I’m not sure of all the configuration changes this makes but I know after you install it that it will allow
you to change the username field when trying to authenticate to Office 365 (will get back to that in a minute)
Second, from my domain joined computer where outlook was connected to my on premise exchange 2007 server mailbox, I setup a new outlook account, either from the control panel mail icon, or from within outlook (both worked) Note; doing from within your already
existing configured outlook allowed me to migrate my email from on-premise to office 365.
From Control Panel/Mail , I created profile name “Office 365”
In the next window it then auto discovered my on premise exchange mailbox email address
[email protected] (which in my case is the same as the office 365 email address
[email protected] )
I replaced the email address with the secondary domain email address that Microsoft office 365 created
[email protected]. I did not put in password at this point and clicked next. It then searched for mailbox, a windows security mail application windows will pop up.
This is where I then replace username
[email protected] with
[email protected] and put in my office 365 account password.
As mentioned above when I said I would get back to that in a minute, if you don’t run the
Set up and configure your Office desktop apps from Office 365. You will not have the option to replace the username from the windows security mail application windows.
It finishes configuration and you’re now connected.
Worth mentioning though that I’m still having some funky mail delivery issues with on-premise users with my imported “contacts” in outlook. The contacts work from office 365 web apps, but not from outlook. If I type the address everything
is fine, but using contacts or replying to on-premise users is giving me some grief. It’s a contact issue but I’m still unable to resolve it.

Manual, book, or documentation for moving to office 365

Hi all.
A client would like to move to Office 365 from basic email hosting with clients connected via imap using Outlook 2010. I have read a series of articles posted by Microsoft on how to accomplish the specific steps but since this would be my first migration
to Office 365 there are items that are not clear to me though presumably they are clear to others. I know that the clients would like to setup only two or three accounts as a pilot project then if all goes well move them all and use Azure AD synchronization
with passwords to their local domain controller. However, I'm unclear on which order the steps should be performed. For example, can I just start a trial account with three users where Office 365 pulls the email from their current email servers
using IMAP then later configure AD synchronization? Will I be able to specify that the existing accounts are accounts on Active Directory? Or, do I need to setup the synchronization first?
Really, I want to know if there is a deployment manual that answers those questions or if there is a book I can get or someone I can call at Microsoft to get help with planning the migration at least a good overview from A to B where I can fill in the details.
The stuff I've read online seems to have a disconnect from Office 365 setup and the various sync scenarios.
Any help?

Migrating to office 365/Win 8.1 from Office 2010/Win 7.0 the Outlook Personal folders are missing.

In Office 2010 I had emails archived into private data file personal folders/subfolders under Outlook 2010. My Office 2010 installation was wiped out when I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. The outlook.pst files are still available. When I installed
Office 365 on my Windows 8.1 system, Outlook 365 picked up the .pst and populated the Inbox and Sent folders, but the archived email personal folders are not present, and also the contacts folder is empty. I haven't been able to figure out where on the hard
drive the personal folders were actually archived (in Office 2010 ) or if Office 365 will even support showing these personal folders.

Problem solved. I found a separate .pst file in my backups that contained the personal folders and the contacts. This file wasn't in the Win 8.1 documents\outlook files folder. So two .pst files are needed; one for the emails and the other for the personal
folders.

Problems moving public folders for 2k3 to 2k7 migration

Hello,
i'm having problems with moving the public folder from the 2k3 to 2k7, following the steps i've found on mig docs and googling for this issue and i cant seem to solve it, letme detail:
There are only 3 user created public folders, all with contacts, they weight less than a MB combined.
So first thing, iin E2k3 ESM i right click the public folder store and select "move all replicas", it works succesfully.
if i expand the pf store and check replicas i see a ton of system folders with 2 replicas.
i also check every user folder, change the replication to always and urgent and resend changes/synch content from 2k3 to 2k7
Now according to migration documents the "pf instances" should empty by itself after some time....
well it's been a day and in fact i see more items than before on the 2k3, if i expand the instances on the 2k7 i see 4/5 folders, none of the user ones!.
I also ran the moveallreplicas.ps1 script.
if i run Get-publicfolder -recurse |fl name,replicas i only get:
Name : IPM_SUBTREE
Replicas : {}the next step is apparantely to move the public folder "folder" itself from the 2k3 admin group to the 2k7, i can do that and it gives no error but i'm worried that if i decommision the 2k3 that it will all fail horribly.
¿whats going on, how can i move this thing for once?

Make sure you have added the Exchange 2007 in the Replication tab list of all folders in Exchange Server 2003.
In Exchange 2003, please increase the logging level to Maximum on the diagnostic logging categories: Replication Incoming Messages and Replication Outgoing Messages.

Enable legacy public folders for Exchange 2013 prior to migration?

We're about ready to migrate to Exchange 2013 from 2010. We have a public folder database on 2010 that users can't see once migrated to 2013. If I run through the commands according to the technet article "Configure legacy public folders where user
mailboxes are on Exchange 2013 servers" (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn690134(v=exchg.150).aspx), will users who's mailboxes are still on Exchange 2010 be able to see these public folders?

I know they've made alot of changes recently in how legacy public folders are handled in Exchange 2013 (mostly CU7), but I haven't had to do anything more than just setting the proper public folder database on the Exchange 2013 databases.
That being said, looking over the article you are not doing any moves, and it looks eerily similar to this blog post:

So I don't think this would hurt Public Folder access for your users in your legacy environment.
Did you deploy CU7? If so, then do what both articles say. If not try using Set-MailboxDatabase -Identity <2013 db name> -PublicFolderDatabase <PF DB NAME>

Question About Migrating to Office 365

After a cutover migration from Exchange 2010 to Office 365, what is involved in cancelling the migration and rolling back to the on-premises Exchange 2010?

Ed is correct, however if you have not already migrated to O365 you might want to test a single mailbox migrating and rolling back as;

Of course this could just be a strange anomaly that you will not experience, however its definitely something to watch/tests and of course monitor the link above to see if a resolution is found.

Removing Public Folders after migration from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013

Recently we migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. We did not migrate Public Folders and are retiring them from Exchange altogether. I shut Exchange 2007 off for a couple of weeks to ensure 2013 functions properly and it does so we're
ready to decommission Exchange 2007. I was able to remove all the mailbox databases without a glitch. Using the EMC I click to remove the Public Folder database from Exchange 2007 and get the following message:
Error: The public folder database "server\storage group - Public Folders\ Public Folder Database" contains folder replicas. Before deleting the public folder database, remove the folders or move the replicas to another public folder database.
Any help appreciated.

If you run the following command does it come back with any public folders?
Get-PublicFolderStatistics -Server "SERVERNAME" | fl

Summary Report after migrating to Office 365

Hi all,
I just successfully performed a cutover migration off a SBS 2011 Server.
Admins are missing the Daily/Weekly Status report email generated by SBS. The report still goes to the on-premises mailbox. I also unticked the users from the list and created new emails as "external" recipients but did not work.
The DNS is authoritative for contoso.local. I don't know how to create a MX record for contoso.com within that zone.
I think it may be an attribute in AD that needs to be changed.
Could you guys provide help with this?
