Downsizing file

Hi,
I've created an landscape A3 2 page spread doc which is quite large in file size. I'd like to be able to just downsize the whole thing to A4 but keep all the pictures and text in their proper relative positions. Is there any way to do this?
Also, I have pictures which are larger than the frames that they are in, so there is space being used up on the doc for parts of pictures that are not visible. Is there a way to get rid of the excess in the pictures so that they are only the size of the frame, without having to actually scale them down?
Thanks

There's no magic button to do either of these for you.
On shrinking the document, try selecting all items on the page and then grouping them. Then, change the document size, and scale everything down. You'll probably have to manually adjust some parts, but it will give you generally good results.
On the "pictures bigger than frame," again, there's no magic way to do that in InDesign.
Is there a LOT of extra photo? If so, you might want to crop this in Photoshop and save out a new version.
Otherwise, if there's only a little bit, don't worry about it. InDesign creates a link to the file and creates a preview of the imageso, unless you manually embed the image, a small amount isn't enough to worry about as far as file size goes.

  • Font problem when downsizing file in Adobe Acrobat pro 9

We currently use Quark on our pcs and sometimes when we need to downsize the hi res print ready
pdf to low res. We do this in acrobat but what tends to happen is that the fonts either shift or
go across the page. Can anyone help with this? there are two of us running 9 while the rest of the crew are operating 4,
although I do not think that this is the problem. Can external ads cause a problem?
    thanks
    Nita

    External ads?
Open the original external ads and check for font embedding. If the fonts are not embedded (or subset), than Acrobat has no font data for the spacing and such.
I have to ask however...when you create a "hi res print ready" pdf from Quark...with a placed pdf without fonts embedded (or subset) does Quark not realize or warn you that the fonts are not available?!?

  • Two step import, downsizing image file sizes and/or keeping copies?

    hi all,
leonie was kind enough on another thread to suggest a two step import from the iphone in order to make sure that there is no accidental deletion or data loss. my understanding (i'm repeating it here myself in case i am misunderstanding) is that this routine involves 1. importing images into Aperture via the conventional import method and then 2. backing up to iTunes (to save the images) and 3. verifying (visually i think) that the images are in the Aperture database and then if so allow Aperture to delete all the images from the iPhone.
this seems to make sense to me but i realized i had a couple of questions about general "photo hygiene" related to this kind of thing.
    1. is there some way to downsize file size after images are imported into Aperture? i take a ton of photos and only some are important to keep at a high resolution and i feel like i am stuck between having a huge Aperture database cluttered with lots of photos at high resolution /or/ turning down the file size and finding that i have an important image that is at a low resolution because i forgot to turn up the file size (i think these are in settings somewhere in my phone) before i took the photo or only realized later that it was important to have this image at higher resolution. if i could downsize while thinking about it in Aperture this seems like it would work.
    2. does anyone keep an external copy of their images outside of the Aperture database?
    thanks

    hi terence,
    thank you.
so can i ask if anyone is using an iphone and/or what setting(s) and/or resolution folks are using?
i guess i have a bit of a dilemma in that i take a ton of photos and i only use one at a high resolution while the others can be something as insignificant as a visual note to myself. and it kind of kills me that these could be 1.2 MB in that i have a lot of them. i sort of wish there was a way to downsample imagery since a lot of these are not so important.
anyway. yeah i guess i was wondering if folks do a referenced library or keep an extra copy as a backup (i guess i am 'embedding' images in the library but i forget what i call this in aperture) - and i have started to wonder if there is some utility to doing a referenced library or keeping a backup but this seems like overkill while at the same time a referenced library would allow me the ability to downsample images from what i can tell but i am just guessing here since i haven't tried this method.
    thanks.

  • Sending Downsized Images to Zip File Problems

I use Adobe Elements 5.0 and have been uploading images to the organizer for a couple of years without problems, until just recently.  Here is how the process used to work.  When images are uploaded they are saved to a new file folder under C drive/ Public Photos/ specific folder with date and subject matter;  I fix the images in adobe then go to the specific folder and create a subfolder within that folder called "downsized".  I then use Adobe to "process multiple files" and downsize for purposes of sending to Pbase. Once the files have been downsized the images end up in the specifc folder, inside the downsized subfolder.  I then rt click and select "send to" 'compressed (zip) folder'.  From there I would open Pbase and upload the zipped folder to a new gallery.
Recently everything has been fine until I get to the send to zip folder.  Instead of sending to the familiar yellow zip folder it is being sent to the adobe photoshop editor in the form of the adobe icon.  I click on that and it promts me for filename, width, height, resolution and color mode.  I am unable to upload this zipped file version to Pbase.  Previously, when things were operating correctly, I would have a folder, with a subfolder under that called downsized.  Within the downsized folder would be the zipped file for sending to Pbase.  Something has happened recently so that I am ending up with a folder, a subfolder called downsized a sub 'folder' under that which is the adobe elements icon and a downsized file under that which is a copy of the downzied photos in the first downsized file.  In checking out all of my 100 or so folders all of them have been 'converted" to the same organization pattern.  What has happened and how do I fix the problem so that I can send the downsized folder to a zip file for importing to Pbase?  Thank you.

You should realize I am just making wild guesses at your problem. And I am assuming you actually have a Microsoft Word document that you are sending. If you do, then following menu options "Insert, Picture, From File..." should work. But if you are just writing out HTML and telling the browser it's actually a Word document, I have no idea.

  • Annoying but not fatal bug uncovered in Aperture file size metadata.

The bug described below was found as a result of testing the relative print sharpness of the Aperture print routines. I printed an adjusted Canon 5D image with Aperture's print routine to a 4X6, 300ppi print output, then took the same image through P'shop, (as a PSD) downsized the file to the same dimensions and converted it to 8-bit color depth. Then printed the returned file through Aperture.
To my surprise when I was performing this comparison, I found that the file size shown in the metadata panel of the test file was not reduced, even though I had significantly downsized the file (from an "outbound" 72.2GB to an "inbound" file of slightly less than 7GB. So I repeated the round trip to P'shop, using the OSX Inspector to examine the relevant .approject size at three points in the workflow:
    1) Before executing the "Open in External Editor" command;
    2) After the PSD version had been created by Aperture; and
    3) After re-sizing the file in P'Shop and saving it back to Aperture.
The net of the test was as follows:
    1) The size of the base (pre-export) .approject increased by approximately 72.2GB when it created the 16-bit PSD file for export to P'shop - exactly what the metadata showed and what I expected for a 5D file at 16-bit color depth.
    2) When the resized file was returned from P'shop, the base .approject file was now only 7.5GB larger, indicating the size of the returned file was in fact reduced by the downsizing.
So the problem is not creation of an abnormally large Aperture PSD file. The metadata file size is simply not updated when the downsized file is returned from P'shop.
I submitted a bug report to Apple on this, but I'm not sure what priority it will get. So this is an FYI in case others have observed a similar phenomenon and been concerned about it.
BTW: The file downsized via the P'Shop round trip was noticeably sharper on printing (from Aperture) than the print produced directly out of Aperture. So it appears the print output sharpening routines in Aperture still need considerable improvement. That's the improvement I'd rather have Apple spending their time on than an anoying but not fatal bug in file size metadata.

I was trying to imagine how you were managing taking more than a few photographs if your files were increasing the space take by 72GB a pop.

  • Since OS Mavericks upgrade any new music added to itunes wont sync on my iPhone

I only sync to a selected playlist, as my itunes library is far greater then the capacity on my iphone, I usually burn lossless but downsize files for syncing. I have tried other file formats and they still dont appear on iphone. According to itunes there is at least 5gb free space on my phone. Can anybody help?

Hello, I was able to get the greyed out circles to stop by updating to the newest software for the phone and itunes. I'm sure you have already tried that though. However, I now have a new problem. Itunes shows certain albums on the phone in the window but they don't appear on the phone at all. They even play on iTunes from the phone. Were you able to find a solution to your problem? I'd really appreciate some help as this is getting old...

  • How to split pdf files also how to downsize a pdf file?

how to split pdf files also how to downsize a pdf file?

    Hi Ali,
If the PDF file you're starting with is larger than 100MB, ExportPDF won't be able to convert it.
To convert a file of that size and to create separate files, you'll need Adobe Acrobat.  You'd need Acrobat to divide the file into smaller chunks for ExportPDF anyhow, so Acrobat is probably the best solution for you.  You can learn more about Acrobat here: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat.html

  • DVD BURNING AND FILE DOWNSIZING

Hi I want to burn a dvd on a 4.7gb disc. Yet the dvd file is to big. Is there a way to downsize the file so I can burn this file on to the disc?

Depending on what it is exactly you are trying to burn.
Roxio's Popcorn, and Toast-7 both have the ability to compress large files and compress them to fit on a standard 4.7gb DVD.
This is how you fit a 7 or 7.3gb file of a Commercial DVD Movie on a 4.7gb disc.
I would however suggest when you pose a question, give as much detailed information as you can.
This will allow all to give you a detailed answer to your problem.
    Cheers Don

  • Reduce and downsize pdf file

    Hi All,
I am looking for a method and guide to reduce my pdf file size from 100MB to 2MB or 3MB maintaining and preserving its original page size. I do not mind image resolution to be deteriorated drastically. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I have selected Printer Adobe PDF, under Adobe PDF Document Properties Menu, I picked Adobe PDF Setting tab. Then I editted the Default Settings as below:-
I managed to reduced the original size from 92MB to 3.6MB, however, the images were downsized tremendously.

  • Downsizing an .mov file

I'd like to import an .mov file into my flash file. Problem
is, the .mov files i have are larger pixel size than I need
(740x480). I'd like them to be around youtube size-is there a way
to downsize an .mov file before i even import it into flash?

    Hi,
You can resize the video while you import it into Flash using
the Import Video wizard. When you reach the Encoding part, check
the resize check box in the Encoding tab to resize your video.
    Hope this helps

  • What is the effective resolution for artwork in Keynote? I have a gigantic file I wnat to make smaller, and there are some problematical photos I want to downsize.

What is the effective resolution for imported artwork/photos? I have to downsize a huge file.

Change the pixel size of the images in a graphics application to match the pixel size of the presentation set in
Inspector > Document > Slide Size  then bring them into Keynote.
I use Stunt Software's Downsize specifically for this as it can batch process hundreds of files extremely fast:     Downsize

  • How downsize a 112 GB .mov file in DVDSP to fit standard DVD?

Help, please. I burned a Quicktime .mov file from HD footage off my FCP 7 timeline. The resulting file is 112 GBs. I took it into DVD Studio Pro as I thought  DVDSP would downsize the file to fit on a standard DVD. But the Disc Meter shows the size to be 6.2GB. I went into Preferences to lower the bit rate, but it had no effect on the size. It is still 6.2GB.
Is there a place in DVDSP to adjust the setting to fit the file so DVDSP will burn it? Or will I have to first take it through Compressor?
    Thanks! Duncan

I did a test, and I think it would be very helpful for all of us if anybody else could reply to this with their experience/comments.
I started with an hour long project in HD.  Then did the following:
    1. Dragged HD sequence from Browser into an SD timeline.  Rendered.  Exported video (in this case, just a short 1 minute clip for testing).  Burned this clip to SD DVD via iDVD.
    2. In original HD sequence I exported a short 1 minute clip.  Dragged this clip into Compressor with DVD settings.  Let it process and then burn to DVD from within Compressor.
RESULTS:  ON SD TV:  There is not much of a difference in quality (at least not on a typical 20-some inch TV), HOWEVER, on an HD TV, the Compressor version (#2 above) looks far better than version #1 above.  When viewing the video on an HD TV, the video from version #1 is virtually unusable.  I would not even give it to a client.  Image quality is very bad.  Version #2 still looks not very good but it is far better than the other.
I have not tried using DVD SP pro yet to see if there is any difference.
Hope this helps and would love to hear other experiences.

  • HT1152 When exporting photos to file they are being downsized even though i export as origonal jpeg size

When exporting photo files to new folder my computer downsizes them even though I export as origonal jpeg size

Could you please give an example with specifics.
Right click the original and select Get Info. Size is the second line under General.
Do the same for the file after it is moved to the folder.

  • Bridge CC has downsized half of the files it just imported

I have just imported 500 plus photos from my Nexus 5. Typically they are 3264 x 2448 and about 1.72M in size. On import, they have been renamed and downsampled/sized to 408 x 306 and about 19 KB. Disaster! I have just spent the morning downloading all my files (8GB) from Google Plus which has fortunately backed them up.
Except that that isn't what happened. When getting the photos from the camera, those scallywags at Adobe created a load of thumbnails without asking me or letting me know and I looked at them and panicked because they WERENT SUPPOSED TO BE THERE and what's more just for a laugh they put some of the thumbnails in different directories to the actual pictures (for example the thumbnail might be created in the 20140501 subdirectory while the original might be put in 20140502). Good joke, Adobe, you got me! Another half-day's lost productivity!

The videos come from my Camcorder and in MTS format.
Yes. It opens fine in Premiere and other places. Even in After Effects, It imports all fine in the Project. The green waving audio sign is there to see and all fine. But as soon as I import it to the Composition, only half od the audio gets importet.
Well, like I said, EVERYTHING is 100% the same amoung all these 8 videos. They were shot at the same day, same everything. All the other 7 work just they way they should. Its just THIS one with this issue.
I just even un-installed the AE and re-installed it but still the same. New project, new composition, .. THIS video gets only half audio when in Composition.

  • How to downsize a QuickTime file for uploading?

I want to upload a short film to vimeo.
I have made a QuickTime movie by simply exporting to via QuickTime Movie in my Export option (instead of the Quick Time conversion I usually use) in order to have a high quality master.
The QT movie file weighs 2.13 GB, so it's too big to upload.
How do I make a copy the is less than 500 MB?
Can I easily calibrate the size?

Compressor is the way to go.
It's actually simple to get going with once you've had a few tries - though it does require an understanding of codecs and the limitations of certain distribution media types, etc. I sometimes think it's more art than science when it comes to getting the best possible results. That said, there is a pre-made setting for online media like youtube and vimeo in Compressor 4 but I've not tried it.
But anyway, compressor has a built in Help menu, with access to the user guide which is pretty good.
    Help >> Compressor 4 Help >> Compressor 4: User Manual >
