Downward compatible SCs

Hi togehter,
simple question for the most of you:
- are differnt SP-Versions of the NW2004s SCs SAP_BUILDT, SAP_JEE, SAP_JTECHS downward compatible?
- if yes; where can I find this information which SP-Versions are compatible?
- if no; where can I find this information too
Concrete: We want to deploy a SP10 developed SW in a SP12 Runtime.
I know the article <a href="/people/marion.schlotte/blog/2005/10/25/jdi-software-vs-jdi-content Software vs. JDI Content</a>. But it does not give me the exact answer...
Thanks and best regards,
Marco

Hi,
note 891223 does not explicitly mention that SP-versions must be the same, but for 6.40 the base SCAs were only available in a single package, thus it was rather obvious that they should be imported together. For 7.00 the note only says that the archives must be downloaded separately.
But as the others already mentioned: you really want to use the same SP version as the target server, especially if you are using Web Dynpro.
Regards,
Marc

  • None of the iPhone interfaces are downward compatible

Over the past 4 years I have bought 9 iPods for friends and family for gifts. I got an iPhone for Christmas. It seemed like a great follow on product. But, I was surprised that it did not work with the tape deck adaptor that I have for my truck. I was surprised that it did not work with the iTrip in my friend’s car or any of my iHome devices. I assumed that it was an oversight by Apple that was not downward compatible with their proprietary interface. So, tonight I bought a Bose head set $179, an iCarPlay $80 an iCassette for the truck $24, Guess what, 2 out of the three don’t work. I had to return the iCarPlay and the Bose head phones because it seems that they don’t not work with the industry standard mini jack. That just isn’t right. It’s not even Apple’s standard to tamper with. This s by far the worse case of embrace-and-extend standards abuse that I have ever seen. It would make Bill Gates proud. Oh, BTW: Apple sells the Bose headphones that work with the iPhone for an additional $20, for a cool $199, just half the price of the iPhone!

I have read if they had wanted the jack to not be recessed, the phone would have had to be thicker at that point, and they weren’t willing to compromise the shape — specifically the thinness — of the design.
Now do I believe everything I read no, but...

  • Are fmb downward compatible from 11gR2 to 11gR1?

I havn't read anything about fmb compatability. May be I've missed something.
    Nevertheless, I have a problem.
I have upgraded part of our development systems to Forms 11gR2 (runs pretty well!).
But, production environment is still 11.1.1.2 and trying to compile an fmb (edted and stored with 11.1.2 on Win7) with 11.1.1.2 (under linux) ends with frm-10043: Cannot open file (not FRM-40012: Form was created by a new version of Oracle Forms).
Tryiing to open the fmb with Builder 11.1.1.3 gives the same error message.
A possible work-around is converting the fmb to xml using frmf2xml and convert it back to fmb before compiling it. But there are forms for which it is not working, at least not with 11.1.1.2 as target platform.
    So, here my questions
    Should fmb be downward compatible?
If yes, what's going wrong? All forms are using olb, plls und mmb; some of them use webutil, but that not the point to fail.
Is it a question of version and it will work with 11.1.1.4+?
Ideas to the work-aroung with xml? Should this work anyway?
    thx

Typically, Forms are not downward compatible - even within the same release of Forms.
Should fmb be downward compatible? No - because there differences in the binary code written by the Forms Builder.Yes, typically ... and it's mess!!! I have customers still on 10gR1, so I have to keep some devlopment environments on version 9. The rewrite of 9, after 6i not to mention.
But I remember notes of that fact in the doc. I didnot find them this time.
And, I'm confused about the simple frm-10043.
Is it a question of version and it will work with 11.1.1.4+?Yes, within the same Forms release - Forms are upward compatible. In some instances, even older releases are upward compatible. For example, Forms 11g will compile and run a Forms 10g forms binary (.fmb). However, going from Forms 6i to Forms 9i and higher requires the Forms binary to go through an upgrade process. That's not the question.
Upgrade to 11.1.1.4+ is not an option, when I'am on 11.1.1.3 and the last version is 11.1.2. At least not, if there are no mature problems.
The question is, is there donward compatability from 11.1.2 to 11.1.1.4+? Following your explanation, no. Do you know or is it a deduction of your general knowledge?
Because another work-around could be to develop under 11.1.2, just open and save under 11.1.1.4+ (to upgrade a single workstation would not be the problem) and tp deplay under 11.1.1.3.
Ideas to the work-aroung with xml? Should this work anyway?Try converting your Form to an .FMT and see if this will work. Theoretically, it should work since you are working with the same Release of Forms and the "Binary-to-Text" conversion writes the definition of the Form in text and writes the PL/SQL as Hexidecimal. If this doesn't work then try converting to XML and back.I didin't mention that this is not working. I thougt it as obvious, that if you get frm-10043 you can't open the form for fmt conversion either. The only way I found is via xml. With problems, at least when reconverting with 11.1.1.2; 11.1.1.3 seems to be mre robust.

  • BOXI upgrade - are client tools downward compatible?

    Hi,
We currently our BOXI Dev and Prd systems at 12.1.0.882 (3.1, no SP?).
Now, we plan to upgrade our Dev system first to 12.3..xxx (3.1, SP3, FP1), including the client tools on my PC.
However, I will still need to work on the Prd system while we test out the upgrade - is the new client toolset downward compatible to our non-SP environment, or will I need another client toolset (or another PC with the new toolset) to access both enviroments?
    Thanks!

You may face issues if the client tools do not have the same version as your server. The official recommendation of SAP is have the same version for all business objects components (server, client).
This means that there is no garantee for downward compatibility.

  • Does Import utility supports downwards compatible

    1. I need to do export from ora9i & import into 8i. Does it possible ?
    2. How about Transport Tablespace , Is that works from 9i to 8i ?

Below Paragraph I cut & paste from Orafaq.org
Different versions of the import utility is upwards compatible. This means that one can take an export file created from an old export version, and import it using a later version of the import utility. This is quite an effective way of upgrading a database from one release of Oracle to the next.
Oracle also ships some previous catexpX.sql scripts that can be executed as user SYS enabling older imp/exp versions to work (for backwards compatibility). For example, one can run $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/catexp7.sql on an Oracle 8 database to allow the Oracle 7.3 exp/imp utilities to run against an Oracle 8 database.
Does Oracle 9i/8i comes with catexp8.sql .... ?Which I can execute at oracle9i DB.

  • Is SLD downward compatible ?

    Hi Mates,
We are upgrading the Solution Manger to 4.0. This is going to be using SAP WAS 7.0. On the same WAS, we are planning to configure the SLD.
Can we have SAP XI on WAS 6.40 use the SLD on WAS 7.0?
    Any bottlenecks here?
    Thanks in advance
    praveen

    Hi Ravi,
    Thanks for your response.
Is there any SAP documentation on this? If yes, please provide the links. I read something about downward compatability, but now I cant recollect where I read it.

  • Is Motion 5 downward compatible to Motion 4?

I am just a beginner in Motion and started learning Motion 4. But it seems, that I will receive some Templates in the Version 5. Is it possible to open and work with the projects of Motion 5 on Motion4?
    Thanks for your answers!

No it's not possible to open Motion 5 projects in Motion 4. Motion 4 will not let you (you'll get an alert that the project was created/saved in a newer version of Motion.)  You can, however, adapt Motion 4 projects to Motion 5. For "straight" Motion 4 projects, you can pretty much get the same results from Motion 5, but there will be a few "gotchas" depending on what's being translated. Many people have reported problems with "looping" projects not matching up exactly. I personally have noticed other minor problems... a wrong setting here and there... nothing major so far, just a very few annoyances.

  • PI /XI compatiblity with content

    Hi,
Does anyone know if the latest PI/XI patches are all ways downwardly compatible with previous SAP supplied XI content?
Is there a SAP document to confirm this?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andrew,
XI patches are always downward compatible. If the XI content is changed with a specific patch for a particular SAP Application, then SAP will release a new version of the content. Also the SLD content( Product and Software Component Version) will be automatically updated with the patch release.

  • IMP-00010: not a valid export file (downward from 10.2.0.1 to 8.1.7.0)

    Hi,
We have requirement to transfer User's all tables from 10.2.0.1 database to 8.1.7.0 database
I have successfully exported user along with all tables and its data from the 10.2.0.1 database,
now when i am doing import into 8.1.7.0, i am getting the following error :
IMP-00010: not a valid export file, header failed verification
    IMP-00000: Import terminated unsuccessfully
when i searched the internet, in the one blog it mentions as below :
Oracle's exp/imp utilities are not downward compatible.
you must use 9.02.1 exp to extract from instance 9.02.03 and then you are able to imp into 9.02.1
so as per above, i will have to use 8.1.7.0 exp to extract from instance 10.2.0.1 database.
So, how it can be done ?????
where i have done mistake ???

It seem you quoted me out of context. I was trying to point out that why read some blog entry of the 'net when the basic rules are clearly documented.
    fbortel wrote:
Well in that very same piece of documentation it becomes clear you cannot export 10G, and import into 8i.Which section says this?
The table (if that's it) gives a few exampes: "Table 19-7 shows some examples "
I'm pretty sure that anything after Oracle8 should work. As long as you are using the right version of 'exp'.
But there is a Metalink Note that goes into more detail. (and should be more correct than my memory allows me)

  • Is Netweaver 2004s downwardly compatable?

    Hi,
I am currently planning to install NW2004S to support a CRM 5.0 project. Can you tell me if the new NW2004s components will still support SRM 4.0 and ECC5.0?
    Thanks

    Hi Andrew,
SAP NetWeaver 2004s is downwardly compatible with other SAP Applications (i.e. mySAP business suite applications) when used in a standalone installation. By standalone, I mean the installation of the SAP NetWeaver usage type as a separate instance.
Examples: A separate Portal instance connected to a mySAP SRM 4.0 could be upgrading to SAP NetWeaver 2004s without having to upgrade the mySAP SRM 4.0 system.
One thing that you should check before upgrading a SAP NetWeaver instance is whether the 'content' is available for the SAP NetWeaver 2004s release (ex: The business packages are available for the new release).
The 'embedded' SAP NetWeaver capabilities within the applications you mentioned (mySAP SRM 4.0 and mySAP ERP [ECC 5.0]) cannot be upgraded to SAP NetWeaver 2004s independently of the applications - the most obvious example here is the underlying Application server cannot be upgraded to SAP NetWeaver 2004s without upgrading the application to a release that runs of SAP NetWeaver 2004s too.
I hope this answers your questions.
    Cheers,
    Mike.

  • MSI 8800 GT 512 MB compatible with Windows XP

Can somebody give me an assist on this. I am planning on buying an MSI GeForce 8800GT 512 MB
Video card. Newegg has these in stock but the spec only indicated Directx 10 support not
DirectX 9 or 9c support. Is the card downward compatible? Anyone running this card under
    windows XP.
Like everyone else I need this upgrade to run Crysis demo. With my existing card and
everything overclocked I can run crysis demo at low res with low settings with strange
    artifacts now and then.

Don't worry, found this on anandtech.com:
The transition to PCIe 2.0 won't be anything like the move from AGP to PCIe. The cards and motherboards are backwards and forwards compatible. PCIe 1.0 and 1.1 compliant cards can be plugged into a PCIe 2.0 motherboard, and PCIe 2.0 cards can be plugged into older motherboards. This leaves us with zero impact on the consumer due to PCIe 2.0, in more ways than one.

    and this on tomshardware.com:
Finally, the GeForce 8800GT introduces PCI Express 2.0 support, which will double the bandwidth (moving up to a bi-directional 8 GB/s) with an X38 motherboard. This won't change anything from a gaming point of view, but could be more interesting for workstations, professional software or applications using Nvidia's GPGPU CUDA. It remains, of course, fully compatible with PCI Express 1.0.

  • Kernel 7.20 for Basis 700?

    Hi experts,
According to note 1636252, SAP supports using downward compatible kernel 7.20 in Basis 700. Does this mean SAP recommends customers which used Basis 700 to update kernel to 7.20? Will SAP solve performance or bugs issue if problems occur? Or will SAP tell me to restore to kernel 7.00 if problems occur?
In the note which I mentioned above, SAP tell us to update NTCLUS.SAR. However, this file is not included in kernel 7.20. Where should I download the latest NTCLUS.SAR?

  • IPod Mini No Longer Recognized by G5 10.2.8?

I connected an iPod Mini to a new iMac with 10.4.4 to charge it and now the Mini is not recognized by a G5 with 10.2.8. I read that 10.2.8 does not support USB 2.0. For some reason, the iPod was updated to USB 2.0 and the driver is not downward compatible. So, I puchased a firewire-dock cable. The iPod Mini is still not recognized. Apple's support suggests the 5 Rs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60950
I can't try the last one, Restore, because the Mini is not recognized. How can you Restore if the iPod Mini is not in the iTunes Source List?

Never mind. I used the iPod Updater 2006-06-28 to restore and everything's fine.

  • Update SAP MMC as prerrequisite for EHP for ERP Installation

    Hello experts,
I have operative system windows x64, AN ERP 6.0  with Netweaver 7.0
Following the ehpi installation guide to up the ERP to EHP5, i read this text in prerrequisites!
Meeting the Operating System-Specific Requirements Procedure: Windows
You need to install a new SAP MMC package (sapmmc<Platform>.msi) on all application servers. The package is available for download as SAPMMCMSI_<nr>.SAR file on SAP Service Marketplace at http://service.sap.com/swdc   Download Support Packages and Patches Entry by Application Group Additional Components  SAP Kernel SAP KERNEL 64-BIT UNICODE  SAP KERNEL <rel> 64-BIT UNICODE  Windows Server on <Platform> 64bit#  Database independent.
, But, in that route  I don´t find the file SAPMMCMSI_.SAR
I search in In all the marketplace and the only SSAPMM package that i find was  this:

But  as i say i have kernel 7.00 and this is for kernel 7.10...
    THen the questions are:
    1. How can i check my current release of sapmmc
    and
    2. How can i fulfill the requirement of update  sapmmc to latest version?  can I apply the 7.10 SAPMMCMSI?

No sap note, by in this sdn page, you can find the downward thing...
SAP MMC Snap-In [original link is broken]
and additionally i see that after 7.10 the download name change and is no more SAPMMCMSI is sapmmc_7-20005871.msi
you can obtain it in :
    SAP MMC 7.20

And FInally, remember that is downward compatible , then you have install SAP MMC 7.20 in a SAP 7.0 netweaver system.

  • Can't run JRE 1.2.2 applets once 1.4.1 installed

I have an applet developed with JDK 1.2.2 (uses 3rd-party jars) which was working perfectly with the 1.2.2 plug-in
    that comes with the JDK.
The OBJECT tag specifies the dynamic versioning clsid clsid:8AD9C840-044E-11D1-B3E9-00805F499D93 (which is the
    only possibility for 1.2.2?).
However, when users who have downloaded the 1.4.1 plug-in run the applet (quite apart from the fact that I have had
to solve a problem where plug-in 1.2.2 accepts PARAMs with initail _ but plug-in 1.4.1 does not!) they are
getting an ExceptionInInitializerError inside one of the 3rd-party libraries. I have reproduced this
error on my Windows XP PC (IE 6). The stack trace is as follows :
(this has been reproduced outside of the browser using JRE 1.4.1 because the 1.4.1 plug-in console won't display,
even after manually running the Console and setting the Show Console checkbox,
and the icon doesn't appear on the System menu, presumably all because I have JDK 1.2.2 + plug-in installed)

In my opinion, this has something to do with the way service providers are handled. The 3rd party jar requires
a Security.insertProviderAt () call. My suspicion is that there is some kind of conflict with the JCE stuff
that comes bundled with JRE 1.4.1 to handle RSA signed applets. I found a similar conflict with the 1.2.2 JRE
when I tried to jarsign the 3rd-party libraries - I was getting, at runtime, either some kind of infinite loop hanging or
a stack overflow due to recursive function calls.
The fact that I can run the applet as a main and that I get the exact same error running the app from the DOS
prompt would indicate that this is a JRE 1.4.1 problem (surely the JREs are supposed to be downwardly-
compatible??!!! - i.e. the JRE 1.4 should run apps compiled with JDK 1.2.2 without any problem). Yes, I have
run the app as a main with JRE 1.2.2 and all works fine.
However, I could get around this if I could force the 1.2.2 plug-in to run instead of the 1.4.1 plug-in (quite
how the users are going to be able to get the 1.2.2 plug-in if they have plug-in 1.4.1 installed
without being Java experts is a problem I will leave
till later when I try to figure out how to make my applet an RSA signed applet (which if the documentation is
correct are only available from 1.3 onwards, hence solving this 1.4.1 problem would be VERY nice)).
But the problem is that once the 1.4.1 plug-in is installed, it always takes precedence over lower versions.
It's not obvious from the documentation whether older plug-in versions get executed when static versioning
is used for the clsid in the OBJECT tag. I can't be bothered to download a 1.3 plug-in and try.
However, unless I am mistaken, there is not a static versioning clsid for plug-in 1.2.2 ?????
In summary, once users download a plug-in version greater than 1.2.2 (presumably by running another applet from some
other site that requires eg 1.4.1 - I guess Sun's aim is to make the Plug-In as prevalent as possible, hence
this is not a far-fetched scenario), it is no longer possible for my applet to be run by a 1.2.2 JRE !!!!!!!
Because the 1.4.1 JRE is not downwardly-compatible, it can't run my 1.2.2-developed applet and my deployed
    application is broke.
Unless I am missing something somewhere (which is possible because I am getting fed up of solving problem after
problem with the Plug-In - eg the mess of setting the right codebase to get different plug-ins to be downloaded
automatically - the HTML converter doesn't always set up the codebase correctly), this seems like a nightmare
for applet developers - from one day to the next your applications will break because of Sun's plug-in upgrading.
Please tell me there is a way to force the 1.2.2 JRE/plug-in to execute instead of 1.4.1 and that there is a
way for the 1.2.2 plug-in to be downloaded automatically by users even when they have 1.4.1 already installed.

Are you using signtool? I had a problem where applets stopped working when I went from JRE 1.3.1_01a to 1.3.1_07. I updated the signtool from 1.1 to 1.3 and now my applets run.
