Dpi of digital photos not set to 72 (mac os is changing it?)

I'm certain that both of my cameras take images at 72 dpi. However, when I bring the photos into my mac, and view the info with Preview or with Photoshop, it says that photos taken with my Canon are 180dpi, and photos taken with my Nikon are 300dpi.
Now here's the strange part, when I view the photos with the GIMP (free image manipulation program) using X11, the GIMP says the photos are 72dpi. And when I view them under Linux, they are 72dpi.
And yet another strange thing -- when I view the photo in Safari or Firefox, it's the correct size (750px x 500px). In my past experience, if a photo was that size, but 300dpi, it would appear much larger on the screen, due to the fact that the screen's dpi is 72.
Is Mac OS changing the DPI?
Here is an example:

i photo not connecting to my mac ..anyone help just keeps spinning trying to connect

I don't think you will.  The service manuals don't go down to that level where they list switch part numbers of stuff that isn't normally removable from the chassis.
Go to this link and download the macpro.pdf.  That's the service manual for your 1,1 mac pro (A1186).  You will find part numbers near the end but not the actual power button switch.
FWIW, when you see a desired part number, google it, and you will find suppliers for that part (if any).
    Good luck.

  • IPhone photos not showing up on Mac

I have an iPhone 6 plus running iOS 8.1.1. I have iCloud Photos beta turned on. When I connect the iPhone to my mac (mavericks, yosemite show same result) (or another mac, haven't tried a PC) it shows only 373 photos & videos when I have 2000. I cannot get any application (iPhoto, Camera import, FCP X) to show the 2000 photos. All the photos/videos are available on iCloud Photos on the web. I have not imported for a while, so I do not know when this issue started. I did have a problem a few weeks ago where the iPhone wouldn't show any photos/videos at all, just black thumbnails with 0:00. Any ideas?

If you want help you’ll need to give us more information. There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 8 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Some photos not being synced from Mac to iPhone

Some of my photos are not being synchronised to my iPhone. This includes certain photos within some iPhoto albums and some entire albums. I have tried to see if there are any problems with the photos which have not been synchronised, but they seem to be fine. No unusual characters in titles and no corrupted images, they seem just the same as the photos which are being synchronised. Anything I should try before getting in touch with Apple support? I've tried creating new albums to synchronise, deleting photos them reimporting them to iPhoto and even re-setting my iPhone, but exactly the same problem with exactly the same photos.
iPhone is running latest firmware (1.1.2), using latest version of iPhoto and iTunes, synchronising with my Mac Pro running 10.5.1

    One thing to try.
Export the photo, from iphoto, that will not sync to the iphone.
Make sure the file name has an extension. (something like .jpg or .bmp)
Import the photo back into iphoto.
Now try syncing the photo to the iphone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photos Not Showing up on .mac Website

I'm having trouble with my .mac website. Any album that was originally created using the last version of iWeb...the photos do not show up. You can go to our website here: http://www.bastianwebsite.com
Fall 2007 was the first album that was created using iWeb 08. All other albums prior to that one the photos do not show up. When I open up iWeb the photos are in there. They just do not seem to load or at least they are not viewable via my website. Any help would be great appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Hi Tom,
First I'd like to tell you that you might think of reducing the number of photos showing per page as it makes the page load extremely slow if there are too many photos per page. 30 photos per page would be great and iWeb automatically creates 'sub pages'.
Second you might think of making 'Groups' to avoid the menu occupying half of the screen. Thus making having a "B'days" page and on that page have normal text links to the different B'days and a page called "Weddings" and have normal text links to the different weddings... The pages linked from these group-pages (thus particular weddings and B'days) wouldn't show up in the main menu (Inspector, Page tab, uncheck include page in navigation menu) result: the size of the menu is reduced and it does look better.
That said you might try to make a "publish all" in iWeb (File=>Publish all) instead of a simple publish to get the photos appearing on the web. I hope that helps. It may take a while seen the amount of pictures you have on the site...
(I know 'first' and 'second' were not required... But I thought they might be helpful...)
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • Photos not deleting images from mac

    Hi All,
OK, so the issue is that I have taken some photos on my iPhone and these have synced to my Mac and iPad using iCloud Photo Library as expected.  However I then deleted these photos from iCloud Photo Library using my iPhone and they can no longer been seen in the iCloud Photo Library, or in Recently Deleted (as this has been emptied).  However they are still on my Mac's local hard drive.  If I try to import them on my Mac I get a message asking if I would like to import the duplicate photo(s), but I cannot find them anywhere in the library.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do to get rid of these images from my Mac?
    Cheers
    Graham..

They may be filed away in a Moment with an incorrect date - have you tried the search field to search for a part of the filename?
You already tried to repair the Photos Library, right?
Then it may be a problem of corrupted preferences files:
The Photos.app stores the preference settings in a file in your hidden User Library.  If this file has become corrupted, you can see all kinds of problems with the graphical user interface - missing menu items, invisible photos, etc.
To remove this file, do the following.
Quit Photos, if it is running.
Reveal your user library and delete this folder:  ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Photos/
To reveal the hidden User Library:
Bring the Finder forward by clicking on the Desktop or the Finder icon in the Dock.
Select your user/home folder (with the house icon in the Finder sidebar)
With that Finder window as the front window, press the key combination ⌘J to bring up the View options.
In the View options panel enable ’Show Library Folder’. That will make your user library folder visible in your Home folder.
Open your Home folder, then the Library folder, then Containers.
Move the complete folder com.apple.Photos to your desktop. Move the entire folder, not just the contents.

  • Digital Photo Professional

    Hi,
The Canon 70d is a very nice camera that is quite new.
Will the DPP 4.1.xx software be available for it in the future?
    Thanks,
    Steve

This is the info, including the link to the Canon website.
Canon has released an updated version of its Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software, which now supports – in addition to its current range of full-frame DSLRs – the EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 70D, EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 700D and EOS 100D…
Launched in September 2014, Digital Photo Professional 4 was Canon’s first sweeping change to its popular RAW processing software since its original launch. The latest version of DPP – version 4.1.50 – is a response to feedback from owners of older full-frame and APS-C cameras who are looking for the very latest RAW workflow solution.
Additionally, DPP 4.1.50 supports the recently launched EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM and EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM lenses, the profiles for which are now available for use with the Lens Correction function.
Commenting on the update, Mike Owen, European Professional Imaging Communications Manager, Professional Imaging Department, Canon Europe, said: “DPP 4.0 has proved incredibly popular with our customers and this latest update further extends its appeal to a wider range of users, such as those using the highly successful EOS 5D Mark II. Canon remains firmly committed to offering a complete range of products to photographers and increasingly its software solutions are playing a vital role in delivering the ultimate in image quality from capture to output.”
    DPP 4.1.50: KEY FEATURES
    Faster, real-time adjustments.
    Improved RAW file workflow.
    Better, more approachable user interfaces.
    Compatible with 64-bit native environments.
Colour adjustments for specific colour gamuts.
Improved highlight recovery provides expanded tonality.
    Improved shadow recovery function.
    Support for movie playback.
Auto Lighting Optimizer can be applied to JPEG images.
    Better integration with EOS Utility.
You can download DPP 4.1.50 now, free of charge, from Canon Europe’s support site here. Just click on your camera – EOS-1D X, EOS-1D C, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 6D, EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 70D, EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 700D and EOS 100D – and select DPP 4.1.50 from the software options to download.
I got it, and it seems to work. I haven't had a chance yet to see whether it fixes any of the bugs in the previous release or improves on the awkward user interface. But it does work on my 7D RAW files, which is what I badly wanted. That said, it still doesn't work on files from my wife's T2i; and since we do some photo shoots together, that remains an annoying inconvenience. I think they should just make V4 work on all .CR2 RAW files.
As of this morning, the new release is still not on the Canon USA Web site, nor is there any mention of it there.
If you haven't downloaded DPP V4 before, don't be blindsided by the fact that they make you enter the serial number of a qualifying camera. If you don't have that on your computer, you'll want to look it up ahead of time.
There's also a new release of Version 3 of EOS Utility. But it appears that the only addition is the aberration data for one or two recently released lenses.

  • Photos not properly downloading, prevents editing

With the new Yosemite OS X update, I have been trying to edit my photos that were in iPhoto and now in Photos but when I click on Edit it says
    "Error Downloading Photo"
An error occurred while downloading a larger version of this photo for editing. Please try again later.
How do i get these photos to download so I can edit my photos?

Same problem here, 10.10.3, MacBook Pro Retina, Photos is set to "Optimize Mac Storage". I'm using a Photos library that I migrated over from my previous computer using Time Machine (I had converted the iPhoto library to Photos and started uploading on the other machine before migrating).
If I go into preferences in Photos, under iCloud Photo Library it says "Updating...", and it has been saying this for several days. Over that time, thumbnails for all of my old photos have been downloaded, but I can't view any videos, or get higher-resolution versions of any of my photos (including those that were part of the library that I migrated). My Photos library on the mac has shrunk from ~50GB to ~30GB, even as many more thumbnails have appeared, which suggests that the optimized storage is working as intended. Except I can't download the full versions!
If I run Activity Monitor, there is a lot of syncing activity going on in the background. photolibraryd, cloudd, nsurlsessiond, and "Photos Agent" are all intermittently using a lot of CPU and network (I had about 10GB of data downloaded overnight).
Hopefully this is all part of a one-time synchronization. If not, I think my next step will be do delete my Photos Library from this machine and start again, since all my photos are already in iCloud.

  • Importing photos&videos from iPad photos NOT in camera roll

For now I have around 3300 files and 16 in camera roll. i want to import all 3300 to my mac. i have already the 16 but decided to keep them for now.

  • Canon Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility not responding

Have been using both Canon DPP and EOS Utility since Dec 09 successfully. Installed Snow Leopard in Jan 2010, still worked fine. Installed Aperture 3 in August and now the Canon software keeps shutting down on me. I contacted Canon and they said it is Apples fault (since 10.6.4) andthat it is because I am running Snow Leopard.
How can this be when it worked for 4 months fine?
Is this an issue with Aperture not wnating any ohter editing software?
I have a Canon EOS 50D camera and was exporting through the Digital Photo Professional software.
thanks to anyone that can help.

If you have an itunes acct that was not set up to share and the lap top it was on is no longer working, is there a way to open up the old itunes acct to get music and photos off of it?  This was before Icloud was available.  Can you reset your itunes password somehow?

iTunes and the iTunes Store won't have anything to do with your photos. Those would be stored only on your laptop unless you made a backup of some sort. If you didn't, and the hard drive in your laptop has failed, then your photos are gone unless you wish to pay a disk recovery service a lot of money to try and get them back.
As to your music, if you purchased it from the iTunes Store you can probably re-download it. Go to the iTunes Store, log into your account, and click the Purchases link under the Quick Links. From there you should be able to re-download some or all of your purchased content. Note that not all content has been licensed for re-downloading in all countries at this time. You can see what content you can download here:

You can also re-download content using an iOS device.

    Hi,
The Ps CS6 public beta version contains the same camera support as found in Ps CS5/5.5 compatible CR 6.6. There will be future updates to CR 7 for Ps CS6 to pick up more camera support. The Nikon D800 NEF files are not supported, yet.
If you like to work with your D800 files in the public beta build now, you'll have to get the DNG Converter 6.7 from here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw6-7/
and convert your files to DNG.
