DPM 2012 Primary SP1 and Secondary R2 mixed mode

I have a Primary and Secondary DPM 2012 SP1 configuration.  The DPM servers protect each other's DPM database in a Cyclic protection.  The Primary DPM server is backing up a few servers that are running Windows Server 2003.  I want to
upgrade the DPM servers to 2012 R2, but I just found out that DPM 2012 R2 does not support protecting Windows Server 2003 until DPM 2012 Update Rollup 2 is released.
My question is, can I upgrade my secondary DPM server to 2012 R2 and continue to protect the DPM 2012 SP1 server and all of its protected volumes?  Whenever DPM 2012 R2 UR2 is released I would then upgrade the primary DPM server to 2012 R2 as well and
patch both primary and secondary with UR2.
Please advise if this is a supported plan for my upgrade to DPM 2012 R2.

Hi,
Not currently, I have asked that a note be added to the following two pages stating that the DPM Server versions must be the same.

  • DPM 2012 R2 UR2 and Windows 2003 SP2 Agent Version Issue

Hi All, I have UR2 installed on my DPM 2012 R2 server and have followed Mike's guide on getting them protected:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/dpm/archive/2014/06/11/details-on-protecting-windows-server-2003-computers-using-data-protection-manager-2012-r2.aspx
The agents now show in the DPM console but display as needing an update and showing as agent version 4.1.3313.0 instead of 4.1.3441.0, which is odd.
    Servers have:
    .Net 3.5 Sp1 Full
    Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17
    From the DPM server:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\DPM\DPM\agents\RA\4.2.1235.0\i386\1033\DPMAgentInstaller_Win2K3_i386.exe
    Executed:
    setdpmserver.exe -dpmservername DPMserverName
    From the DPM server:
Attach-ProductionServer.ps1 script on the DPM server and refreshed twice
    What have I missed?

    Hi.
    Reboot your 2003 Server
Run DPM Setup again on Server 2003
    Run setdpmserver.exe again
    click refresh in DPM Server
    worked for me

  • Difference between primary eindex and secondary index?

    hi experts
    pls answer me
difference between primary eindex and secondary index?
    rewads apply.
    thanks.
    naresh.

    hi,
    check this link.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/cf/21eb2d446011d189700000e8322d00/frameset.htm
A difference is made between Primary & Secondary indexes to a table. the primary index consists of the key fields of the table and a pointer to the non-keys-fields of the table. The Primary index is generated automatically when a table is created and is created in the datebase as the same times as the table. It is also possible to define further indexes to a table in the ABAP/4 dictionary, which are then referred to as Secondary indexes.
Always it is not mandatory that an index should have all the key fields of a table. To see the index of a table
goto SE11->specify table name->click on the indexes... button on the application toolbar.
Based on your requirement you can you any of those index fields in the where clause of your query. Always its a better practice to use the index fields in the order specified. While selecting the records from a table it is always better to select the fields in the same order as specified in the table.

  • DPM 2012 R2 UR4 and BMR backup from physical 2008 R2 (DC, DNS, DHCP,WSUS, WDS)

    Hi,
    I'm completely lost.
    We updated from DPM2010 (2008 R2) to DPM 2012 R2 RU4 (2012 R2).
Clean install. Same hardware. Everything went quite smoothly.
Our new (and also old did the same thing) DMP protects some Hyper-V guest on our 2008 R2 Hyper-V cluster, one Exchange (2010) DB's and SQL 2008 R2 DB's and one physical server - 2008 R2 (DC, DNS, DHCP,WSUS, WDS ~160GB of data).
Currently we are using some Buffalo Terastation's III (TS-RIXL) iSCSI SAN storage to hold our DPM protected data.
    Configured as RAID 5.
Our new DPM server is connected to those iSCSI devices using built in MS iSCSI initiator via secondary NIC on this server using dedicated iSCSI subnet.
Everything seems to be fine unitil System State and BMR (I'v checked both) runs.
Basically my iSCSI NIC shows Write about ~170Mbit/s and Read about 520Mbit/s when backing up virtual machines, Exchange or SQL.
When it comes to System State and BMR backup the trouhgput is MUCH slower (about 65Mbit/s) and I can not figure out why. I understand that the BMR backup initiates direct writing to the DPM created and shared replica volume on my iSCSI NAS (my wording
might be not correct but basically  I understand how this works). But I don't understand why the speed is so much slower. I'v tried everything, googeled around, changed NIC drivers, firmware etc. No luck.
If I just copy some big ISO file from/to server to DPM or vice versa the speed is arount 100MB/s (as reported by windows itself). So it seems to able to utilize full network speed. But why this backup is so slow? I'm excpecting to see speed about ~170Mbit/s
because it corresponds my iSCSI Write speed as seen when backing up hyper-v guests and DB's..
    What I'm doing wrong?
    Any help is appreciated :)
    rgds Sven

    Hi Sven,
Sometimes BMR is slower than backing up virtual machines (VHDs). If there is a free local disk, please test to do a backup locally to see the speed. From your description a common backup works much faster so let's see if it is the backup speed which causes
    the issue or not.

  • Primary Barcode and Secondary Barcode

    Hi Experts ,
Please let me know if its a good practice to have a Primary Barcode with with product number and a secondary barcode with fields of batch number,Expiration date and quantity in the product label.
Also<b> i would like to know</b> if we need to have a <b>secondary barcode </b>if we have a Storage unit number Barcode on the pallet . Will the storage unit barcode give the information of materials or will the fields get populated in the RF device once we scan the SU barcode .
If its possible to populate the fields (material number, batch, quantity and expiration date ) once we scan the SU Barcode then i ll just give a <b>proposal </b>to have only a primary barcode and a SU barcode.
    Your advise will be appreciated.
    Regards
    Albert.

Then I'm going to stick with my original response.
    Looking at the documentation:
    http://www.oracle.com/pls/db102/print_hit_summary?search_string=%22secondary+index%22
the term "secondary index" seems to be used primarily in conjunction with index-organised tables (where the primary key / primary index is part and parcel of the table) and with xpath.

  • Data deletion on primary index and secondary index

Hello, I have a question regarding data deletion in BDB-JE.
Suppose I have an Entity class which has a primary index and a secondary index, the secondary key does not have outer related entity. So when I want to delete this entity, is it correct we only need to remove the entity from primary index? or I also need to do it for secondary index or just remove it from secondary index and internally BDB_JE will remove it from primary index?
    Thanks
    Anfernee

You can delete an Entity using the delete method for primary index or the secondary index. When an entity is deleted, secondary index records are automatically deleted. The primary and secondary indices are always kept in sync.

  • DPM 2012 R2 Support and Hyper-V Workloads on REFS Storage

We have deployed all of our Virtual Machines on REFS filesystem. We are in the process of deploying DPM 2012 R2 and would like to know if there is any information available from Microsoft as to when REFS will be supported for Hyper-V workloads on REFS. Any
information will help us plan for whether to move Hyper-V loads to NTFS.
I can see the Windows Server 2003 is now supported in UR2 and wonder if there is a roadmap available that will be included in future UR for DPM 2012 R2.
Also any information for re-enabling the integrity checking in VHDX after we move a VM from REFS to NTFS would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I do not believe we will be adding support for protecting Hyper-V hosted on REFS in the near term, so plan on using NTFS.
If you are already using REFS and are getting backup failures, you can create the following registry key on the Protected Server, restart DPMRA service and run a consistency check.
    A. On protected server, browse to the registry path: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Data Protection Manager\Agent\2.0.
    B. Create a DWORD registry value called "ForceFixup" and set it to 0x1.
    C. Restart the DPMRA service on protected server.
NOTE - This will disable use of DPM filter so there will be some backup and possible server performance tradeoffs.
We do not announce fixes in upcoming UR releases.

  • Primary address and Secondary Address of GPIB while configure the software for NI7210 chip

I am using your latest linux software i.e. nigpib_linux_0.8.5 to install my GPIB Card. I have sucessfully installed it. But at the time of configuration i am getting the problem about the Primary and Secondary address of GPIB bus. Can u please tell which address should i use for these?

    Hi Ankur,
You can use any driver as long as is unique on the bus. Just select a primary address, there is n o need for a secondary address (disable it).
But more importantly, the linux driver does not work with the NI7210 chips. This driver is intended for interfaces using the TNT4882C GPIB controller.

  • Sharing Primary Site and Secondary Site's SUP WSUS for non-SCCM client use

I was wondering if the WSUS deployed for the SCCM's SUP can also be (re)used for non-SCCM clients.
Our SCCM infrastructure are mainly used to manage Workstations whereas our back-end servers are not deployed with SCCM agents due to overlapping SLAs and responsibilities. However, we would like to take advantage of WSUS's centralized update repository without
each back-end servers initiating connection to the Internet to get their updates.
    Is this possible?

No. WSUS servers that are used for SUPs are controlled by ConfigMgr and cannot be used outside ConfigMgr.

  • Upgraded to SP1 and now in evaluation mode

Hi, I bought the student edition of LabVIEW 2010 some months ago. I'm developing an application, and when I went to the message boards for help I noticed SP1 was available. I followed the links and downloaded and installed it. Now most my main program and the application builder are in evaluation mode instead of registered as the student edition.
I spoke to a very unhelpful person at the phone number provided by the application who pointed out that I don't have phone support and directed me here. (Why the program provides a phone number to a person without a phone contract is beyond me.) Anyway, she also mention that I wasn't supposed to have service pack updates. So now I need to either get back to the regular student edition, or get new codes or something. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Simon

    Hi Zealousky,
Have you tried to activate your student version again after you downloaded SP1?  You can do this by going into license manager and highlighting the "student version" under LabVIEW and clicking the "Activate" button.  The professional version has more features than the student version, so the license may have been defaulted for the 30 day trial as a way for you to try out new features, but you should be able to activate your full license any time.

  • BAM Web Services and SQL Server mixed mode authentication

    Hi,
I have created and deployed a BAM definition with some BAM views in it but when Ihit the BAM Portal with IE all I see in the "My Views" pane on the left is an error message "Views or Activites may be missing because one or more database(s) could not be contacted.
Investigating the TraceLog tells me that:  Error    11007    Cannot determine the SID for the user.
I have changed the DBO accounts for all BAM databases to a Windows accounts as read in Tiho`s blog (http://blogs.msdn.com/tihot/archive/2006/06/13/630313.aspx), but I still get the Error.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Do this
    1.  Remove the ID on which BAMappPool is running from the BAMPrimaryImport Database's users list
    2. Add that ID as the DB Owner of BAMPrimaryImport database in BAMPrimaryImport DB's properties
That's it.... restart BAMAppPool and/or SQL services if you want and you should not see that error again!!

  • Exchange 2013 and exchange 2007 mixed mode questions

I made my first attempt at migrating from 2007 to 2013 but ran into some problems. My 2013 CAS and MB servers are successfully installed along with their prerequisites (AD entries, external and internal DNS is active or ready to be, FW rules etc..). I'm
at this point here in the Microsoft plan..

    "Perform the switch over"
    My questions are about behavior.
    1. When I have everything setup correctly and DNS and the SCP's changed, the Webmail OWA site for all users will be the 2013 login interface, and after logging in will my 2007 users then see the 2007 OWA interface on my old CAS?, or will they access their
2007 MB using the 2013 interface?
    2. There is a "backend imap4" service on my 2013 servers.  We will still have some 2007 mapi connected MB clients.  Do I need these services started to hand off 2007 mapi requests to the 2007 portion of the environment?

    Hi,
    Yes.
Based on my knowledge, we should do some configurations.

  • Switch protection to Secondary DPM if Primary DPM fails

    Hello,
I have one Primary DPM 2012 R2 server and one Secondary DPM 2012 R2 server.  I have not found a step by step guide to switch protection over to the Secondary DPM in an event when the Primary Server is not available
    (gone belly up).
Looking for instructions on how to "Switch Disaster Protection" of all Protected computers  at once from Primary to the Secondary and how to revert back to Primary when the Primary is again available.  Thank you.

Have you had any luck with this yet?
