DPM Database lost, how to access backups?

Hi there,
we lost our RAID on which the DPM2010 Server an SQL Database (and other servers...) resided crashed. There is no way we can access the database. The backups are still on a network storage.
Is there any way we can access those backups?
PS: Please don't tell me we should have backup up the database. I know that (by now...) :(
I just read there is a way to recatalog tapes after the database is lost (http://up2v.nl/2010/12/21/things-to-consider-when-using-microsoft-dpm-and-veeam-backup-replication/). Is there is a similar way for storage pools?
Greetings,
Benjamin

Hi,
This is an old post but I will attempt to answer anyway. It is ugly when you don't have the DPM database. It sounds like you already know that. There is no way to re-catalog disk based backups or anything close to that. One thing you can do being that you have
the disks still is to access the replica's directly on the volumes.
You can go into: (DPMINSTALLDRIVE):\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\
Here you will have multiple folders depending on the type of data you are protecting such as:
File System
Microsoft Exchange Writer
Non VSS Datasource Writer
SqlServerWriter
etc
etc.....
When you drill down into any of these folders you will see more folders with GUID's. Here is an example of accessing System State data:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPM\DPM\Volumes\Replica\Non VSS Datasource Writer\vol_357d1b27-92dd-43d8-9859-e5a26f33a2f2\06968cd5-faa7-4697-bdad-f709609504ea\Full\C-Vol\WindowsImageBackup\SERVERNAME\
This is not ideal but this is an option to access your data.

    Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone could help me about a backup situation.  I backed up my iPhone 4S on my iTune for the second time.  Then I wanted to retrieve all the previous backup (the info before I backed up the 2nd time) and clicked on 'restore backup' on iTune.  I checked my iPhone 4S and all the info before I backed up the 2nd time ARE GONE!  Even some apps I installed after the 1st backup and before the 2nd backup are gone as well!  How can I retrieve all the info between the 1st backup and the 2nd backup?
Thanks to anyone who can answer this in advance!!!

  • Backup DPM database to Azure?

Is there any way to backup the DPM database to Azure using the Azure backup agent? We previously used an online backup solution from HP, and it had a way to backup your local DPM database directly to the cloud to ensure that you were always able to recover
the workloads you were storing there. It appears that with DPM you need to handle the DPM database backup completely separate, but I wanted to make sure I was not missing something. Thanks.

What I've found is that if all the databases are there, but you can't find them doing a search.  Because of that, it seems as though you just have to start doing restores and see what you get to find the correct database.  The one piece of data
you do get when presented with the replica restore list, is that each replica shows the time it was backed up.  Based on this I'm thinking you could use this backup time as an identifier, but it will take some specific planning in the protection groups.
Not a very efficient solution by any means, but I guess the data is in the cloud and that's what matters.  I'm also tying to figure out how to restore my DPM server and hook up it back up to Azure to do elegant restores from the cloud, but I'm having
trouble with that as well.  That's a topic for a different post I suppose though. I keep hoping there's something I'm missing with all of this, but so far that's where I'm at.

  • How to get the data from mysql database which is being accessed by a PHP application and process the data locally in adobe air application and finally commit the changes back in to mysql database through the PHP application.

How to get the data from mysql database which is being accessed by a PHP application and process the data locally in adobe air application and finally commit the changes back in to mysql database through the PHP application.

If the data is on a remote server (for example, PHP running on a web server, talking to a MySQL server) then you do this in an AIR application the same way you would do it with any Flex application (or ajax application, if you're building your AIR app in HTML/JS).
That's a broad answer, but in fact there are lots of ways to communicate between Flex and PHP. The most common and best in most cases is to use AMFPHP (http://amfphp.org/) or the new ZEND AMF support in the Zend Framework.
This page is a good starting point for learning about Flex and PHP communication:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/flex_php.html
Also, in Flash Builder 4 they've added a lot of remote-data-connection functionality, including a lot that's designed for PHP. Take a look at the Flash Builder 4 public beta for more on that: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashbuilder4/

  • How to access tables/views of an external database provider..

After much trouble I finally managed to setup a second Database Provider that doesn't display the "0 out of 0 connections are good" error by filling in the "Configuration Class" field with "intradoc.server.DbProviderConfig".
But now the problem is actually accessing the tables/views in my newly configured external database provider...
In the Configuration Manager applet when I try to add a new Table or View it only lists the tables contained in the schema of the SystemDatabase database provider (the original one), I've tried running Queries via components trying stuff like SELECT * FROM provider_name.table_name and other similar but obviously it doesn't work...
So... with that said, I just want to know how I access tables or views in my "supposedly" well conected (15 out of 15 connections are good, no errors on the Test Query) Oracle external Database Provider - After searching I was unable to find any information regading any post-provider-setup actions in the Content Server documentation - Does anyone know how to do this?
On a side note, if the database is SQLServer instead of Oracle, with the same configuration and apparently no errors on the database side (other clients access it well) the Query Test of the new database provider returns the following error:
"The provider 'TestSqlSrv' is in error. Unable to create database connection for JDBC:ODBC:SqlSrv. Unable to create result set for query 'select * from dummy'. Invalid Fetch Size Unable to create result set for query 'select * from dummy'. Invalid Fetch Size java.sql.SQLException: Invalid Fetch Size".But I won't even go there yet.... for now I would settle with just knowing how to reference information in the Oracle external database provider...

  • VB 2008, CR component and MS Acc: how to access with database(not user) pwd

These are the detail of the query:
    1. MS Access 2003 and later database via OLE DB provide for entry of a u201Cdatabase passwordu201D to provide additional protection.
    2. In VB 2005 and in VB2008 environment I have managed to establish a connection with a database password and open recordsets using ADO connection. See code below.
Note. stPassword is user password and stDBPassword is database password with the following code:
    With cnn
              'set connection string
              .ConnectionString "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Password=" & stPassword & ";Data Source=T:\CPI.mdb;User ID=" & stUser & ";Persist Security Info=False;" & "Jet OLEDB:System database=t:\cpi.mdw;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=" & stDBPassword
              .Open()
    End With
    3. When using Crystal Reports component supplied with VS 2008 I can only provide USER NAME and USER PASSWORD. No information is available how and where to enter DATABASE PASSWORD to the Crystal Reports component. As a result, Crystal Reports Viewer starts to run. Obviously access is denied because no DATABASE PASSWORD has been provided to the component. A common dialog comes up to enter database password.
    4. User does not necessarily need know the DATABASE password and I am not interested in providing the database password to every user who runs reports. In this project database password serves as a form of protection from tampering with the database structure and contents through the use MS Access to access the database.
    5. Here is the code to demonstrate logon via Crystal Component described above:
    Imports CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine
    Imports CrystalDecisions.Shared
    And then in a sub:
Dim cnnInfo As ConnectionInfo = New ConnectionInfo()
        'cnnInfo.DatabaseName = cnn.DefaultDatabase
        cnnInfo.UserID = stUser
        cnnInfo.Password = stPassword
No place to input DATABASE password!!!
Does anyone know how can I input database password or provide a connection string or maybe ADO connection object which is opened within the project code.

It seems like it is not possible to set the DB level password with the CR Visual Studio bundled version (as stated in the following KB c2010267). You would need to use the full version, and use the code below:

To pass the database level password or a user level

  • DPM is Only Allowing Express Full Backups For a Database Set to Full Recovery Model

I have just transitioned my SQL backups from a server running SCDPM 2012 SP1 to a different server running 2012 R2.  All backups are working as expected except for one.  The database in question is supposed to be backuped up iwht a daily express
full and hourly incremental schedule.  Although the database is set to full recovery model, the new DPM server says that recovery points will be created for that database based on the express full backup schedule.  I checked the logs on the old DPM
server and the transaction log backups were working just fine up until I stopped protection the data source.  The SQL server is 2008 R2 SP2.  Other databases on the same server that are set to full recovery model are working just fine.  If we
switch the recovery model of a database that isn't protected by DPM and then start the wizard to add it to the protection group it properly sees the difference when we flip the recovery model back and forth.  We also tried switching the recovery model
on the failing database from full to simple and then back again, but to no avail.  Both the SQL server and the DPM server have been rebooted.  We have successfully set up transaction log backups in a SQL maintenance plan as a test, so we know the
database is really using the full recovery model.
Is there anything that someone knows about that can trigger a false positive for recovery model to backup type mismatches?

I was having this same problem and appear to have found a solution.  I wanted hourly recovery points for all my SQL databases.  I was getting hourly for some but not for others.  The others were only getting a recovery point for the Full Express
backup.  I noted that some of the databases were in simple recovery mode so I changed them to full recovery mode but that did not solve my problem.  I was still not getting the hourly recovery points.
I found an article that seemed to indicate that SCDPM did not recognize any change in the recovery model once protection had started.  My database was in simple recovery mode when I added it (auto) to protection so even though I changed it to full recovery
mode SCDPM continued to treat it as simple.
I tested this by 1) verify my db is set to full recovery, 2) back it up and restore it with a new name, 3) allow SCDPM to automatically add it to protection over night, 4) verify the next day I am getting hourly recovery points on the copy of the db.
It worked.  The original db was still only getting express full recovery points and the copy was getting hourly.  I suppose that if I don't want to restore a production db with an alternate name I will have to remove the db from protection, verify
that it is set to full, and then add it back to protection.   I have not tested this yet.
This is the article I read:

Well, Oracle probably has a command line tool. I think it's called sqlplus or somesuch. Check you Oracle docs.
Of course, given that this is a Java forum, it's remotely possible that you're actually asking about accessing the database from a Java program.

    Hi,
First of all, were u successfull in creating the connection with the .mdb file.Like settting the DSN and configuring the .mdb file path in control panel.
If yes then one option might be that the file ur trying to access is in Read-only mode.
