DS and DPS 5.2 Patch 4
I am working on a project to migrate all LDAP traffic to use SSL. I configured the proxy to allow both secure and non secure connections and have been using this configuration for some time successfully. Now that all of the applications are using SSL successfully we have disabled port 389 on our firewall between the Directory Proxy and Directory Server. Everything stopped working almost immediately.
It appears the problem is with the heartbeat between the proxy and the master. If i restart the proxy I can perform searches successfully for a short time, then the searches begin to fail. In the logs I find the following:
Server condo101.cms.hhs.gov:389 has gone down.
It appears it tries to contact the server 3 times on port 389, after the 3rd time it determines that the master is unavailable and stops trying to communicate with it. I have tried setting "Always establish SSL session with server before any operations" and that did not make a difference.
Can anyone shine some light on how to update the heartbeat to "ping" the master on 636 instead of 389?

We are not using LDAP authentication for our Sun servers yet, however that project is on my list for this year. Good luck with it.
Here is the response from Sun support regarding my proxy server heartbeat issue. I have a change request scheduled to test this later in the week.
"Also one thing you can try is to configure the server(s) with ONLY the
SSL- port defined (set the ldap port to '0' ). When there is a choice,
DPS will always use the non-ssl port. But take away the configured
option to use it, and it will use the defined SSL-port for that server
instead.
So, you want DPS to use a SSL-heartbeat to this server instead of the
normal LDAP-heartbeat check, To do this, you must set the backend
server LDAP port to '0', and keep the SSL-port to 636 to make that
happen. That should fix the problem."

Directory proxy is intermittently loosing its connection to the master server. The issue continues even if there is no load on the proxy but seems to be more frequent when it is under a load.

Environment Details
Currently we have 2 Directory Server instances running on 1 server. One instance is our enterprise directory and the other instance is for Access Manager. We have 4 proxy instances running on 2 servers, each server has 1 proxy instance for the enterprise directory and 1 proxy instance for Access Manger.
We do have a firewall separating the proxies from the directory servers. The session timeouts are set to 1 hour which don�t seem to coincide with the errors. Additionally we are not using connection pooling.

Thanks for the response. i should have included this in my initial request, but the DS is not going down. in fact, while the DPS is showing the DS is down I can submit searches to the DS no problem. Additionally, while snooping the interface on the DS I can see traffic arriving ffrom the DPS server.
I have a ticket open with support as well, they indicate that the issue appears to occur around the time one heartbeat loop ends and another begins. They have recommended DPS patch 4.1 and hotfix 6429138.

DPS Enterprise License for Apple's B2B Store

Hey everyone,
we developed an app and successfully tested it on our iPads via DPS. We aim to distribute the app via the B2B store from Apple and the tutorial PDF from Adobe tells me that we need an "Enterprise license" for DPS.
Our company uses Adobe Creative Cloud and I am wondering now whether this already means that we have an "Enterprise license" for DPS, as well?

I am using Digital Publishing Suite to publish to an iPad. I ran a test and the effect partially works, but not smoothly.
As you scroll down the animation does not play. Once you finish scrolling the animation then jumps to whichever point has been reached on the timeline, rather than animating as you scroll down the page.
Is there a way to get the same animation effect through DPS that you see in the browser? Or is it not compatible?

Error in updating DPS Desktop Tools CS6 32.0.0 and Photoshop Camera Raw 8.7.1 (CS6)

I purchased Adobe Creative Suite with my Mac so I have an installed version. I have tried rebooting, but to no avail. Not able to Bind DPS 6.3.1

I configured Sun Directory Server 6.3.1 on Solaris Sparc. I'm not able to bind the ldapclient.

There any way to re-sign the app developed with Adobe DPS?

Hi Everyone , I explain a problem that I have with DPS Single Edition ( it useful that is until May ) to see if anyone knows a solution. I have developed an app for a client , but the client wants to publish the app in Apple Developer with your name . How to export the .ipa or .zip Dps asks certificates Apple account and logically put mine ... (customer is a large company and I do not give me your passwords Apple etc ) you know if there any way they can re-sign the app ? As you do when you develop an app for a client who wants to publish on their own?

Ok they'll ask my client to send me those files.
With notifications no problem because the app does not.
With respect to Itunes connect and publication in the AppStore, will my client who is responsible for publishing the app, complete data etc. from their own.

Sending Push Notifications with Adobe DPS

Question.
I'm testing out all the Adobe DPS and Apple options. And one of the things I would like to test is Push Notifications.
I followed the iPad publishing guide to be able to get all the certificates so that's ok. Then I was looking for a way to send
push notifications. Because Adobe DPS doesn't really have a UI environment (PLEASE correct me if I'm wrong ;-) to send push
notifications I have to do it 'by hand'. When I tested my app on my iPad I got the "app name wants to send you push notifications",
so i'm sure my certificates are working. Now I just need to send a push message.
So I followed this great tutorial:

I was able to do everything and was able to send a push notification ... but I never received it. And the reason for this is because
I don't have the app device token, which is a 64 character serial number which acts as your app address. So I don't have any way of sending the notification
to my particular app. (which is a test sideload multifolio app).
Because the Adobe DPS is cloud based you don't get any code (which I love). But I think that is currently stopping me
from finding out my device token.
What I'm asking:
- Does this mean I can't send any push notifications to Adobe DPS created apps?
- If this is supported somehow, I suppose (again, correct me) I need the app device token for the created app. Where do I get this?

At this time, it's not possible to manually push notifications. When you enable push, only publishing a new folio displays the red badge. At some point, when third-party push is supported, manual pushes will be possible.

Can you move a magazine app designed by another company to Adobe DPS?

My company had a digital company (who shall remain nameless) produce their magazine app under the (digital company's) information. I want to transfer everything over to Adobe DPS because frankly, this digital company did not live up to their promises, have terrible customer service, and are strictly just adding buttons to a pdf (not interactive at all). With that said, do I need to start from scratch and build a new app? Or can I just obtain the app that's already been created? If not, do I just tell the other company to delete our app? Thanks!

If you move to DPS you'll wind up building a new application using our tools and submitting that to Apple as an update to the existing application. Your readers will see an update to the app and when they download it they'll have the new version.
What is more complicated to sort out is whether readers would still be entitled to content they'd previously purchased. That depends a lot on you previous setup, how the previous product handled purchases, etc.

DPS Potential buyer questions

Hi. I have a little experience with InDesign CS6 which I have used to create and publish epub books. I now would like to create single edition apps. I already have an Apple Developer account. After looking at a number of different solutions Adobe DPS single edition looks most suitable but I am confused by the options so I have some questions.
1) Is Indesign and DPS all the software I need to create and output the app or is there something else that must be bought?
2) Does the price of Adobe DPS single edition mean I own it, ie it won't expire after a set period of time?
3) Adobe Creative Cloud gives a 1 year license to adobe software - does this license also include Adobe DPS single edition?
4) I don't need all the Adobe Creative Cloud software, if I just licensed Indesign CC, because it's cheaper, is Adobe DPS single edition still included.
5) Is it likely that support for Android and Amazon single editions will be added in the next year?
6) Can you point me to any resources on the internet that are good for teaching how to use DPS?

1. InDesign is the base, but any HTML knowledge will be a big help as will Edge Animate and Muse (both part of Creative Cloud)
2. It's an app, you create it and submit it to Apple. If approved it will stay on the app store as long as your Apple Developer account is active.
3. Creative Cloud includes an unlimted number of Single Edition apps. The first year is less than the cost of one SE license.
4. No. And you will quickly discover the rest of the CC apps are indeed quite a nice compliment to InDesign.

DPS Pricing: Am I screwing anything up?

Hey all. I hate to find myself in short-term bugaboos here, but I'm trying to dissect Adobe's pricing model and make sure I communicate it correctly, lest my small agency venture into the territory of "unforseen hard costs".
We are looking to use the DPS platform to build an iPad based cookbook for a client. Pretty cut and dry. No subscriptions, gating, e-commerce or anything that might be construed as non-standard.
As I understand it, this is a single-use folio. Because we have a paid team subscription through the Creative Cloud, we will not incur any additional costs from Adobe to create our cookbook single-use folio in InDesign and publish it as an app.
We will incur a $99/year fee from Apple to register as a developer. Once we've undergone the lengthy approval process, we will then be able to have our published cookbook app distributed through the Apple App store. Because this is a single-use folio (i.e., there are no instances of multiple issues a la a Conde Nast magazine). If 100,000 people download this app, no additional fees are incurred.
Am I missing anything here? It seems like it's pretty simple - I'm just concerned about unanticipated surprises. Do I understand this pricing model correctly?

You're right that you can submit lots of apps but incorrect about keeping the app in the App Store after you cancel your iOS dev subscription.

What happens if I do not renew my membership?
If your iOS Developer Program membership expires, your apps will no longer be available on the App Store and you will not be able to submit new apps or updates. You will lose access to pre-release software, the Apple Developer Forums, the Certificates, Identifiers & Profiles, and Technical Support Incidents. However, you will still have access to iTunes Connect and free development resources.

DPS APP Builder Error Code 1

Hello,
I'm getting an Error Code 1 message when trying to download the test APP from the DPS APP Builder. I've tried re-building the document (a process that takes almost 8 hours in my case as our APP features 110 articles including almost 1000 images), updating it, generating new certificates and any other workaround mentioned in a previous discussion about this same subject. Nothing worked for me.
The only workaround I haven't tried is deleting the folio from ~/Library/Preferences/StageManager.BD092818F67280F4B42B04877600987F01 11B594.1/Local Store/dmp.
Apparently, there's nothing called "StageManager" in my MacBook Pro. Not in this route neither in any other route.
Any idea about how to solve this? (if possible without re-building once again the whole document) We can't wait until the error code 1 bug is fixed in future Adobe updates as we need to submit the APP to Apple next week.

Update my latest experimental results.
I found that issue was folio package related.
Because when I use another folio package to the same app item in App Builder, this error message does not appear.
But the original package in exchange, this error information occurs.
Are there helpful to solve this problem?

DPS questions

1. How long does it typically take to get an App approved by Apple in your experience?
2. Let's say I have the Creative Cloud (and the DPS version that it comes with) and I update an App that is already published. If a person already has that App on their device, do they receive notice of the update?
3. It is our intent to have a free app in the app store. Once downloaded, the user will click on it and a screen will come up asking for a username and password. Once that has be verified, they will have access to the content available per their authorization. This would be for sensitive, free documents. Is this available with Adobe DPS?
4. Another scenario would be for purchasing multiple copies of a purchased book. Would they need to download each paid copy individually or could a username and pw be used to give them a specific number of copies? It would be almost like a book store App. Is this available with Adobe DPS?

DPS Single Edition - Wrong builder ID, how to fix it?

Hello all,
We design a quarterly magazine, and we´re using a dps single edition license to have it available to the readers as an iPad independent app, for each edition.
We were doing our second edition, and by error, on the Viewer Builder on the provisioning step we used the old mobileprovision files from the first edition (with the old bundle id).
The result is easy to find out - the app created on the DPS Viewer Builder (and signed with the old provisioning files) is not correct when compared with the one prepared on iTunes Connect for this second edition, and we only noticed that when we were trying to submit the app with the Apple´s Application Loader.
So my question is easy: how can we edit our mag on viewer builder and change for the new provisioning files (we need to use a new bundle id because the second edition is not an upgrade but a new app) on the without buying and new DPS Single Edition License (please mind that when we edit it we can use new provisioning files but they should keep the same mobile provision id or else we get the following error "Bundle ID inside the mobileprovision does not match the bundle ID used for the build").

Hi Bob, thank you for your reply.
Re-creating the file unfortunately doesn´t solve my problem:
1) if I edit the app on the viewer and replace the provisioning files (now with the correct bundle id) I get "Bundle ID inside mobileprovision does not match the bundle ID used for build (which was xxx.xxxxx.xxx)" , which makes sense because I´ve used first the wrong ones (and that´s why I´m in deep trouble and unable to upload it to Apple)
2) if I create a new app, even with the same name, at the end it asks for the Single Edition serial number to activate, and if I use the one that I´ve bought, I get "Serial number already redeemed".
If there isn´t any other solution (all ideas are welcome) I´ll contact tech support from Adobe in order to reset my Serial number (or something similar) because we can´t afford to buy another serial without using first the one we have paid for.
