DPS Licensing RE iPhone

So here's my question. I work for a non-profit, and we currently produce a free iPad magazine 2-3 times a year (we actually just update the single branded version in iTunes, so only one issue is ever available at a time).  We signed up for the Professional membership last year before the single editions were announced. I had planned to transition to Single Editions when our subscription expired, but this iPhone thing is putting a wrench in it.
So, help me understand how this works.
With Single Editions, it seems like putting out an issue would cost:
$395 for the iPad2 version
$395 for the iPad3 version
No ability to create iPhone.
Not a great solution. Would it be smarter to purchase the Professional edition monthly edition 2-3 times a year? Seems like that would just be $495 per/issue for us, and we'd get iPhone as well. Any downsides to this?
Also, and you create a single-folio app for iPhone? (i.e., not a multi-folio viewer) I know this isn't an option for Android, which has kept us off that platform.
I found this article: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishingsuite/articles/dps-indesign-authoring-for-iph one-ipod-touch.html, but it didn't seem to answer it clearly.
Thanks!

Can you use DPS monthly like this? i.e. - publish a multi-issue viewer, let your subscription to DPS expire, then renew in 3 months time and publish another folio to the same viewer?

  • If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?

I work for a organisation based in Sydney and we have a team license for creative cloud (single edition).
We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad and want to continue this through 2015.
At the moment we can only create apps for the iPad platform.  If we upgrade to a Professional Edition DPS license can we create an unlimited number of Single edition apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices?
We do not need multi-folio apps as we are not a publishing company.

    Thanks Neil
I sent an email yesterday and am awaiting a reply.  Here is my email for reference.

We have been producing single folio apps for the iPad through Indesign and the App builder.  We now want to produce apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices.

We are not a publishing company so we will produce a small number of the apps.  If you could get back to me with a solution and approx price that would be great.
    Thanks for your time

  • Simplified DPS License Model

Hello, every body Please, anyone knows how about the apps produced with Professional account already, with the new Adobe DPS business model. I have some apps and I would like to know if I can update and publish new folios for them "Effective December 1, 2014 Adobe is simplifying DPS licensing with the removal of download fulfillments and moving to a per app license model. The new license will have a fixed price per app fee for the term of the agreement regardless of fulfillment usage. As part of this improvement, we are removing the download counter and disabling the fulfillment warning expiration messaging. No services or features will be affected by the new pricing model. All customer agreements will remain in place. For additional information, please contact your Adobe representative or reseller near the end of the term of your agreement. Customers who entered into a multi-year agreement and agreed to purchase download fulfillment bundles each year are still obligated to purchase those bundles at the price and schedule specified in the agreement. If customers exceed their current fulfillment bundle agreement going forward, they will not need to purchase additional fulfillments. Please feel free to reach out to us anytime to discuss this new pricing model. We wish you tremendous success in 2015 as we continue to innovate on the Adobe Digital Publishing Suite. -The DPS Team" Regards

Please see New Simplified DPS License.

  • New Simplified DPS License

Is there any more information/posting on the simplified pricing structure (elimination of download fulfillments) online besides the email I received today (and duplicate message on the stays page)?
    Thanks!

Message isn't showing on the status page anymore. (which I thought was an odd place for it to be) but here is the email:

Personally I view this a big positive. The extra download fees were always a hiccup when discussing DPS - have a few clients that I'll most likely end up signing once I get the details from my reseller.

  • Upgrade App with different DPS license

Can someone advise me on the following scenario. I have an multi edition App, version 1.0 live in the Apple store using DPS account [email protected]
I then want to upgrade the App to 2.0 on the Apple store but the upgraded version uses a different DPS account, [email protected]
What happens in this scenario? In particular for users of the App who have purchased a subscription under version 1.0 (ie the different DPS account).
Note: The 2 DPS accounts mentioned above are 2 different DPS licenses.

You would need to firstly build the new app from the new account using the same certificates and by using the same bundle id and include the same subscription product id's in App Builder. Then you would need to republish the folios from application account of the new DPS account. Publish these older folios with the same product id. This way when you build and update using new DPS account, all your subscribers would have access to download the previously entitled folios.

  • Adobe DPS Roadmap RE iPhone Support

I do not really wish to ask a "by when" question, as I know it was frowned upon in the pre-release forums:)
However I am constantly asked this by our clients, and it has a bearing on how we approach business opportunities to create iPhone apps for people who are asking.
I woud love to be able to be able to field these questions with even the roughest idea about the following:
Is iPhone (or smartphone support in general) still firmly on the roadmap for Adobe DPS? If yes, is it high, medium or such low priority that it is still a year or so away from now?
What should I tell my clients who are interested in putting their content solutions on the Adobe DPS platform, but are wanting to know how long the wait for iPhone support might be?
Bob Bringhurst recently mentioned iPhone support om a post about scaling: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3889660#3889660   "I'm not sure if or how this will change when the iPhone is supported."
So I am hopeful this may be on the  horizon, but would appreciate if the roadmap could be shared with DPS customers in a bit more detail, if not on this forum then perhaps through other channels?
    Regards, Juergen

    Hi Steve:
Thanks for your thoughts, I agree about the iPhone not being an ideal canvas. And no, we wouldn't create isolated iPhone apps using Adobe DPS, rather iPhone versions of existing iPad content:
For every app we have done clients have requested (and wanted to pay for) an iPhone version of the content. (we don't do typical periodical magazines, but occasional custom content single issue iPad apps, imagine how I feel about having signed up for pro license now that single issues will cost US$395)
Since we use inCopy in collaboration with clients, they seem most interested in making the text content from their iPad apps available on iPhone page templates, plus some resized pics. Nothing amazing from a UX perspective, but I could see re-flowing stories onto the iPhone with Indesign flexible layouts and inline scaled images.
IiPhone support had been requested by a lot of people at one point in the pre-release last year, not much interest now it seems...
So for now we use SenchaTouch or Appcelerator to convert the text to HTML5 to iPhone, but that's not as easy as having an Adobe DPS iPhone viewer and keeping it in the designers domain instead of having to code javascript etc.

  • Contact Point for a HIGHER level of development licensing for iPhone?

I know about the Enterprise Program.
I know about the Individual Developer Program.
I am looking for a contact point, for which our legal team could contact for a development/licensing agreement that doesn't fit within either of those two programs.
The company I work for is not small potatos and is a major player in the market we are focusing on. We are still far from of till we have a complete product, but our legal team wants to start discussions now with Apple... so everything can get worked out by the time we are ready to go.
So if one of the Apple folks see this, I am sure you can see my email address in my private profile... please email me directly. If someone else happens to know, please post it if you can. Even if it is just a number, that I can call to talk to someone... to get the next phone number to call.
I hope that all made sense.

Actually... yes, that is 1 of the 2 reasons I posted here.
Reason 1: That those that have the administrative and moderation access in this forum, also has access to the account information of the members that have signed up here. Which pretty much every forum software package grants the rights to those of the administrative/moderator staff. Or at least at a minimum could reply to the post, with the information that I am seeking.
Reason 2: This is a discussion forum, and I thought... people come here to help one another. And as I listed before, we tried the LEGAL contact page on Apple.com, no luck there. We tried going via iPhone developer program information contacts... dead end. And our legal contacts did in fact try to reach out to contacts that we also did have on file... and those also ended up in a dead end.
So excuse me for using yet another avenue of communicating with Apple and people who may also have or are going through the same situation.
As for the sarcastic replies... I know exactly why I am getting them, and hence why I returned them. I am absolutely no stranger to the anonymous world of discussion forums. But if you want to continue thinking that everything is just like slicing a piece of apple pie, and serving...
Then you seriously underestimating the complexity of issues like this.
All I did was come here to ask for some assistance when every known avenue has turned up to be a dead end. I thank the person that provided at least another avenue, that may lead to proper solution.
Grouch Marx was an interesting character. Last I checked, this wasn't a club. Or maybe it is, and you only want to keep to your own and forget the thousands if not magnitudes more of people that are just looking for a simple answer to a problem.

  • DPS Pro Account - iPhone Folio App

    Hello,
I am user of Creative Cloud. I have a Creative Cloud complete plan — annual. I've released several magazines for iPad already. Now I want to release 3 for iPhone. However I've seen that Adobe has changed all the stuff to get a Professional plan. What can I do now to get a Professional account (not Enterprise). This surprises me and now I have all these folios for iPhone prepared but I can't take the Professional Account.
    Any suggestion? Thanks a lot.

You have to pay monthly to provide access to the folios, both previously published and new folios. You can publish as many folios as you want, but you are limited to publishing a single title under the professional license on the three platforms we support (Windows, Android, and iOS).
You may find Bob's post on the difference between multi-issue and single edition apps useful: http://boblevine.us/digital-publishing-suite-101-single-edition-vs-multi-folio-apps/

  • How to purchase a DPS license NOW in Argentina

Hi, we've been working for months on an app using InDesign, need to publish it now and can't find a way to purchase the Single Edition. We're from Argentina, apparently we have to do it through a reseller, but when we contact them they say they can't sell us the license till february, because you're modifying the ways to do it. This is insane, we're working with our most important client and now can't find a logical solution to this problem. Nobody gives us a clear answer. Please need to solve this ASAP. Thanks.

Hola¡ pudiste resolverlo¿ cómo¿ estoy igual que vos. Con un proyecto de dps avanzado pero desde argentina no puedo comprar dps. Encontraste alguna solución¿ suerte.

  • Does numbers for mac include a license for iPhone?

If I purchase iWorks Numbers on my Mac from the App store, can I also install it on my iPhone or is it a totally different license/software?

The Mac & iOS Numbers are two separate applications for two different operating systems. You need to buy both.

  • The Single Edition DPS License is include in CC subscription?

As I told in title, i would like to know if the Single Edition License DPS is already included in CC subscription.
    TY.
    Enrico.

Yes, DPS Single Edition is included with Creative Cloud Complete Subscription and Creative Cloud for Teams Complete subscription.
Using this you can create unlimited Single Edition Apps for iPad and publish to App store.
Complete refers to a subscription plan which includes all CC products. For more refer to the buying guide: http://www.adobe.com/in/products/creativecloud/buying-guide.html

  • DPS Apps targeting iPhone

Let me see if I understand this correctly... ( we have the DPS Professional )
Ideally, I want to target the iPhone market. I want to build a single-folio app for the iPhone and IPad, but you can't do that with DPS. You can build a single folio app for the iPad no problem, but not the iPhone.
And single-folio apps "must" reside on Apple
If you want to target the iPhone, then you need to build a mulit-folio app with renditions and all content "must" be hosted with DPS which will cost you $0.30 per folio download (up front)
    Is this correct?
And this sort of prevents me from creating a multi-folio app with free content if I expect the traffic to be high and the number of downloads of free content will cost me...
Are there any future plans (V27 maybe?) to support single-folio apps for the iPhone??

    Neil
I was sure that a couple of webinars ago around R25, Zeke mentioned that there would be a single edition iPhone version, we all got quite excited about it at the time, so I'm sure I'm not imagining it, but then the news all died away, and nothing materialised. I appreciate somtimes things crop up which means a feature can't be implemented, but just for my sanity, was there a point early this year where you guys thought you would be able to create a SE iphone app?
I'm starting to try and make iphone apps with Edge animate and phoneGap, etc, which I think more of the DPS guys should try, there is more than one way to skin a cat :-)
    Cheers
    Alistair

  • Can you renew or extend an expired DPS single license?

    Hi guys,
My single edition edition DPS license for my app has expired. Is there any way to renew or extand the license period? I ideally don't want to have to create a new app.
If I do purchase a new license and rebuild the app from scratch will i be able to just submit the new version as an update to iTunes? Or will the lower version number of the new app cause issues? I have had problems with this in the past when moving to DPS from an older platform.

No. A DPS “Single Edition” serial number is only valid for one year from the date it was first redeemed.
I would suggest you to upgrade to Creative Cloud, With Creative Cloud, you can build as many Single Edition apps.
