DPS on Windows

I'm on a PC using Windows 7, and besides developing magazines for the Android Market, is there a way to take my folios I've created and make them available for the iPad through the App Store? Can I send my files to someone who owns a Mac and have them submit the files to the App Store for me?

You can build and upload all your folios on a Windows machine. You don't need to transfer your source InDesign files to a Mac. If you're creating a single-folio app, you can export the .zip file in Windows and transfer it along with the required image files to the Mac computer. Then you or someone else uses Viewer Builder to create an app with those files.

Just installed DPS for windows cs6 and Folio Builder isn't working

I've just installed the DPS for windows CS6, but there are no options in the Folio Builder, yet i can create new Articles. How do i get the Folio Builder working?
Does it need to be connected to the internet? I work for a large organisation and have firewall restrictions limiting internet access from In Design, but thought i could work offline.
Any clues to what i might be doing wrong?

Yes, CS6 Creative Cloud on Windows 7. I also am running this on my old Mac Pro which is working fine. (I only run one at a time to avoid license problems).
Anything related to the "folio" is empty or functionless. I can see the Folio Builder and Folio Overlay panels, but nothing is in the windows. I installed the CS6 DPS tools as well.

I also need to understand why the posters of my folios won't show up in the library, nor do the names?
If there is anywhere I can find this kind of info online. I've searched and searched and can find no guidelines, discussions or tutorials. Have Adobe created something without any documentation for the user?

Clicking sound when playing videos in Safari

Hi, everyone. This is Joey from Bongiovi Acoustics. This is a frustrating and known issue that arose with the release of Mavericks. Click here for our help topic on the issue.
The solution is not to uninstall Digital Power Station (DPS) but to quit the application from the task bar when the issue arises.
Allow me to explain in detail:
The Digital Power Station plugin works by capturing all system audio using a virtual audio output driver (a kernel extension called DPSReflector). The audio then goes to the Digital Power Station application where we apply the Bongiovi DPS audio processing. Then processed audio flows out to the physical output on your Mac that you choose in the DPS preferences window.
When you quit the DPS application from the task bar menu, the DPSReflector is taken out of the audio path and your standard connection to the audio hardware is restored. There is no need to uninstall DPS. When you want to listen to music or non Quicktime X powered video, you can just restart DPS from Launchpad.
Unlike most applications (word processors, video games, Photoshop etc) the use of a kernel extension vastly complicates our interaction with OSX. Up through OSX 10.8 the kernel extensions that captured audio worked great. These include the famous Soundflower by Cycling 74 as well as our own DPSReflector. Apple provided tools to developrs to fine tune them and their interactions with OSX and the world was happy.
With OSX 10.9 things seem to have changed. See our forum topic on the issue. The tools for profiling audio processes at a lower level no longer seem to work properly. And documentation about the changes to CoreAudio is incomplete. We have had an open bug report with Apple's driver support team for several months and we are consulting with experts on OSX kernel extensions to resolve the issue. As you can imagine, the lack of movement on this issue is frustrating. We can't see inside of CoreAudio to see how it is built at a deep level. So without documentation or good developer support we are at a standstill for fixing the issue. As soon as we get actionable information from Apple we will fix the issue immediately and push out an update.
We are dedicated to providing our users with amazing audio and we go to great lengths to see that their experience is the very best we can offer. Our hope is the fine folks at Apple with get back with us and provide good data that we can use to squash this bug. Feel free to keep up to date on our progress at our forums.

Remember you can only build an iPad app using your Single Edition solution (which is included in your CC membership). So you'd need a Pro or Enterprise version of DPS to be able to create the Android version.
You can create pop-ups in InDesign using the slideshow options and a multi-state object. But it's all manual labour so you'll spend a lot of time on this, also depending on the layout of your design.

Viewing my DPS publication in windows / desktop

I have created a DPS Publication for one of my clients and want to be able to view it on windows 8 devices and desktops.
What is the best way to do this? Export the Folio and drag and drop it into content viewer or can I share as a link to open up in Adobe Content Viewer.

If your client only wants to view it on desktop, the would recommend, export the folio and drag it into content viewer.
Windows 8: Phone is not on the roadmap. A Windows 8 application is planned for 2013.

Windows 7 + dps + ipad

Hello
I was working on a project on MAC OSX and had to continue working on it using Windows 7. I connected my iPad to the computer and iTunes recognizes it but InDesign totally doesn't! I have InDesign 8.0.1 and Content Viewer 3.1 installed. What can I do? I'm trying not to panic but it's quite serious.

When trying to create a Windows app in DPS In-App purchases wont let me go any farther

I am going through the process of trying to create a Windows app using the dps app builder.
I get through the General and Assets part of it just fine, but when I get to the In-App Purchase page I get stuck on the default price tier. In the example it shows com.adobe.dps.199
The app I am producing does not have any In-app purchases. And it is already setup at Microsoft with no in-app purchases
I have tried typing in the Adobe price tier box but nothing allows the submit button actually be available to me.
Any ideas?

Don't put anything in the in-app purchase box, just leave it blank.
If the Submit button won't light up it means you missed something required on one of the earlier pages. Make sure there is a green check mark next to every item in the list of pages on the left. If one of them doesn't have a green check mark that means you forgot a field that's required.
If I had to guess I'd say you forgot to specify the background colour for the splash screen on the Asset page. It often goes below the bottom of the screen on smaller displays (like my laptop) and is easy to miss

DPS Multifolio App on Windows Platform (Corporate/Private Distribution)

Dear all,
our company is about to use private distribution platform with DPS.
as I am pretty sure about the workflow with Ipad/Apple devices... it's a bit more blury with Windows.
First is it possible for our Adobe rep to build a Windows Multifolio application (for W8.1) that will connect to our fulfillement server ? (just like the IOS app will)
If yes, does it mean we'll get an application we might install on our windows devices ?

DPS support for windows 8.1 and windows phone applications?

Does the latest version of DPS support development for apps on Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone or is there a roadmap for when this will be supported? It seemed like it was to be release by the end of 2013.

What do you mean by "ADP"?
All your Adobe rep will do is get you a custom viewer that you can submit to the store. You still have to publish the folios yourself to either the same account as your iOS folios, or to a different account (your choice). Remember that the Windows 8.1 viewer does not support Single Edition. It is only for professional or enterprise customers who are publishing multi-issue applications.
Our intention is to have all iPad folios render beautifully on Windows. The only overlays we don't currently support are pan and zoom, image sequence, and audio. If you don't use those overlays then you don't have to change your folios at all.
You can look at the Adobe Inspire app in Windows Store as an example. The folios there are the direct copy of the iPad folios, with no edits.

Can the DPS software create windows 8 apps for Dell tablets?

I have been challenged with creating windows 8 apps and collateral to run on Dell devices. Does anyone know if this is possible using the Adobe DPS software?

Yes, but you’ll need a pro or enterprise account and the devices will have to be Windows 8.1.
If you go to the Windows store on the device you’ll be able to download the Adobe Content Viewer.
Not every feature works yet so keep an eye on things. Check out Adobe Inspire magazine on Windows 8.1 for an idea of what’s possible.

DPS 6.2 on Windows 2003 puts backend connections to close_wait

Hi,
i was installing a couple of DPS 6.2 on Windows 2003 servers.
I defined data sources that point to PGP Universal Servers ldap key store, activated proactive monitoring to keep alive connections and poll them every 30 seconds. I open 5 initial connection, increment by 1 with a max of 100 connections.
DPS now opens these connections on startup and everything looks fine for a while, but if i wait a couple of minutes without activity from a client querying the key server through the proxy server, the DPS puts most of the connections to a close_wait state and does not really recognize that these connections are not available any more.
If another client queries the dps after a couple of minutes of inactivity, the DPS returns with error "Unable to retrieve a backend SEARCH connection to process the search request". I have to do about 5 or 6 queries until the DPS recognizes that the connections are not available any more and opens new ones. After these queries i get fine replies but if i have another inactivity for a while the error happens again.
Any ideas how i can get DPS to gracefully close these TIME_WAIT connections or at least to meka sure these connectons stay alive? Polling and pro active monitoring did not solve the problem

some more information:
it seems as if the DPS is only polling one of the connections to the LDAP backend server to keep the connection alive, it does not poll al connections. here is the logfile from openldap running on 1389 on the backend:

Hi andi,
As you've noticed, DPS uses a dedicated connection for server health-check.
The problem you mention may appear when LDAP directory servers are configured to drop inactive connections after x seconds, x > health-check polling period and no traffic received by the proxy.
Indeed, health-check does not detect anything wrong as periodic traffic prevent the dedicated heath-check connection from being dropped. However, pooled connections remain inactive, so they become stale.
The number of (potentially) stale connection increase with the size of the pool, that's the reason why you need to do multiple (failing) queries to clean up the connection pool.
Error detection is improved in 6.3 (out beginning of CY08) when a stale connection is retrieved from the connection pool.
Meanwhile, it is possible to configure the proxy to periodically generate (dummy) traffic to those pooled connections that remained inactive for some time. This usually solves this kind of problem at the expense of extra outgoing network traffic when the proxy is not used.

Hi,
Has anyone had any experience of creating publications for windows devices and where to go for advice?

I usually turn around custom builds for people in under 24 hours. Have you used our Adobe Content Viewer in the Windows Store yet? We support all the overlays except the deprecated panorama overlay.
We are actively working on building App Builder for Windows, but it won't be available until later this year. It is coming though!

I was wondering if the DSP app builder will become available for windows? Or is it an Mac only programm? If there will be a windows version, when will it launch? Or is there a beta version available for windows?
