DPS Single Edition Rejected

A very interesting thing has occured. We have an Adobe DPS Enterprise Edition account in which we created a single folio edition for. This is a digital version of a photobook we published for a Rabbi in Israel (www.seasonsofthemoon.com). Apple reviewed our app and rejected it and said:
We found that your app is primarily a book and is therefore not appropriate for the App Store, as noted in the App Store Review Guidelines.
Books should be submitted to the iBookstore. To work with Apple on iBookstore distribution, first verify that your content meets the following requirements:
- ISBNs for all titles you intend to distribute
- Is in EPUB format, passing EpubCheck 1.0.5
To obtain an ISBN for your content and learn more about ISBNs, please see US ISBN Agency. Then complete the iTunes Connect Online Application.
Visit iBookstore Aggregators for information on working with the iBookstore aggregators.
My question is: If our app was selling more than one book, for instance, 3 or 4 books, would Apple still reject it?

Try and add more overlays and add more interactivity to your App. Use Scrollable frames, MSO's (like Slideshows). When you resubmit the app, cite examples of other apps in App store with same level of interactivity. That will help in Approval process. Use features that that not available in iBooks and inform apple that you have unique features in your app that are not availble through ibooks.

DPS Single Edition - Wrong builder ID, how to fix it?

Hello all,
We design a quarterly magazine, and we´re using a dps single edition license to have it available to the readers as an iPad independent app, for each edition.
We were doing our second edition, and by error, on the Viewer Builder on the provisioning step we used the old mobileprovision files from the first edition (with the old bundle id).
The result is easy to find out - the app created on the DPS Viewer Builder (and signed with the old provisioning files) is not correct when compared with the one prepared on iTunes Connect for this second edition, and we only noticed that when we were trying to submit the app with the Apple´s Application Loader.
So my question is easy: how can we edit our mag on viewer builder and change for the new provisioning files (we need to use a new bundle id because the second edition is not an upgrade but a new app) on the without buying and new DPS Single Edition License (please mind that when we edit it we can use new provisioning files but they should keep the same mobile provision id or else we get the following error "Bundle ID inside the mobileprovision does not match the bundle ID used for the build").

Hi Bob, thank you for your reply.
Re-creating the file unfortunately doesn´t solve my problem:
1) if I edit the app on the viewer and replace the provisioning files (now with the correct bundle id) I get "Bundle ID inside mobileprovision does not match the bundle ID used for build (which was xxx.xxxxx.xxx)" , which makes sense because I´ve used first the wrong ones (and that´s why I´m in deep trouble and unable to upload it to Apple)
2) if I create a new app, even with the same name, at the end it asks for the Single Edition serial number to activate, and if I use the one that I´ve bought, I get "Serial number already redeemed".
If there isn´t any other solution (all ideas are welcome) I´ll contact tech support from Adobe in order to reset my Serial number (or something similar) because we can´t afford to buy another serial without using first the one we have paid for.

Can you create apps after 1st May 2015 using Adobe DPS single edition?
I currently have SE via creatieve cloud - one of the only reasons we switched to CC was for the DPS SE.
Does anyone know if this capability will just be 'switched off' at midnight 1st May 2015?? There are huge costs for going the enterprise route but with no date in sight for Publish to be launched I am not sure I can wait for this, or should I???

Adobe states: Please note that the Digital Publishing Suite, Single Edition, service will be available for use until May 1, 2015, but beyond that date the service will no longer be available.
So essentially my licence will expire on 1st May - Adobe's note just mentions 'service' - even though part of CC and I will not be able to maintain my app or create any more IPA's after 1st May. I can't beleive there is nothing to switch over to other than paying thousands of pounds for enterprise??
Just all so vauge, feels like a plug is going to be pulled and thats it??? Maybe I am missing something?

Can you build native android apps also with DPS single edition or only with enterprise edition?

Publish a multifolio-viewer with DPS Single Edition

How can create a multi-folio Viewer with the DPS Single Edition?

You can only create built in Apps with DPS Single Edition. Multi Issue apps cannot be created using DPS SE or DPS CC.
For creating Multi Issue apps, you'll need to switch to DPS Professional or Enterprise Edition.

End of DPS Single edition support (may 2015)

Hi there team,
I would like to know what's the plan from adobe for us to be able to maintain our already published DPS Apps in the Applestore. I undestand that you plan to give support only to epub fixed layout (ibookstore) and not the Applestore after May 2015. So, what happen with our already developed Apps? What happens with our customers?
I hope you give us a solution for not to be the end of our subscriptions to the Creative Cloud before May 2015.

You should look at our Single Edition publishing guide. You don't use Folio Producer with Single Edition. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ppcompdoc/Step_by_step_guide_to_dps_se.pdf
Note that support for Single Edition in Creative Cloud ends on May 1st. Make sure you get your app completed and approved by Apple before then.

J'aimerai savoir si une bonne âme de chez Adobe (comme Franck Payen) peut nous donner des informations sur l'avenir de la Digital Publishing Suite ?
En effet en tant qu'agence nous développons au coup par coup des applications (magazines) interactives pour de la communication interne ou information grand public or apparemment on ne va bientôt plus pouvoir profiter de la DPS Single Edition qui permettait de proposer des applications pour les petites structures à prix abordables (même si c'est exclusivement pour IOS). Aux dernières nouvelles pour profiter de la DPS il va falloir bientôt payer entre 7000 et 8000 euros par an pour pouvoir profiter du service de la DPS et ensuite payer au coup par coup pour chaque application suivant : le marché visé, le chiffre d'affaire de la société ou encore le nombre de téléchargements estimés !!! ? Adieu les petites entreprises et bonjour les grands comptes ? Je ne comprend pas cette politique qui devient financièrement discriminatoire ! Est-ce qu'Adobe pourrait ne pas écarter les milliers d'utilisateurs freelance, TPE, ou petites agences et PME qui veulent et qui sont déjà entrés sur le marché des applications mobiles avec les outils Adobe ?
Vos produits sont géniaux, mais continuez de respecter les utilisateurs qui ne sont pas dans les "grands comptes". Merci Adobe pour votre réponse !

Приветствую всех. Суть в том что я не могу разобраться с лицензией Single Edition адобовская поддержка толком ничего не объясняет.
Может кто-то из рускоговорящих может мне втолковать что входит в пакет DPS Single Edition, что я смогу с его помощью сделать и самое интересное это прайс и покупка.
DPS Se это лицензия только на 1 фолио? Только одно приложение под IOs или Android можно сделать чтоли?

Вам уже ответили выше. Просто дополню немного. При подписке на Creative Cloud (полной подписке, а не на отдельные программные продукты) становится доступной возможность публикации неограниченного количества Single Edition приложений (это приложения, которые могут содержать только одно фолио) в AppStore.
Казалось бы плюсы очевидны: неограниченное количество приложений, нет платы за скачивания из AppStore, не нужно ежегодно платить за платформу DPS, чтобы приложение было доступно для скачивания. Но есть один жирный минус, перевешивающий, на мой взгляд, все эти плюсы – такие приложения имеют высокую вероятность быть отвергнутыми Apple на ревью. Чтобы этого не случилось, такое приложение должно включать в себя большое количество интерактивных оверлеев, не должно быть похоже на книгу по своей структуре и т. п. И даже в этом случае нет никакой гарантии. Добавим сюда то, что на сегодняшний день Single Edition – это только для iPad.
Не знаю ваших целей и задач, но для меня, если пользоваться платформой Adobe DPS, реальным вариантом является только Professional. Правда есть еще альтернативные интересные платформы, более приемлемые по цене, но немного похуже, на мой взгляд, по функционалу.

DPS Single Edition - what if Apple rejects your app?

If you pay for a single edition license and Apple rejects your application after viewing, where do you stand with Adobe?
Are you able to make the changes needed to the app, then rebuild and re-submit?
Is it like a professional, or enterprise edition where you can amend and fine tune your app (through builds and rebuilds) until it is perfect within Viewer Builder - but you're just limited to the one viewer app?

I haven't got any problems, this is just hypothetical at the moment.
Is there a limit to the amount of changes I want to make? Say I have built my folio, zipped it and placed it in the app in viewer builder. I see a couple of minor errors, so need to re-zip the folio and rebuild the viewer. Then I want to add another section (which requires another rebuild). Is that all doable? I'm just talking from real-life experience of digital publication development - I don't think our first viewer build has ever been the one we've pushed to Apple.

I can't find a simple answer anywhere. On one of the pages it says "Publish everywhere- Every device, every platform' but it does not confirm whether this is possible for single edition apps or how it can be done. Can anyone help? Much appreciated.

Strange email from Adobe - DPS Single edition

I recieved the following strange message from Adobe :
You have used all the .folio downloads purchased as part of your Digital Publishing account. It is important that you purchase another .folio download bundle immediately to ensure no disruption in fulfillment of your content."
This regarding my purchase of single edition license few months ago. is there a limit on the number of downloads of a single edition license ?

I have the same email! I have a monthly PROFESSIONAL DPS suscription but just have used single edition in the viewer biulder!!!!! What hapennsss???? I have never used my folio downloads. Actually yesterday before DPS becomes on mantainance y see all my folio downloads avilable, two hours latter i got this email and all my folio downolads were on 0!!!! This is a joke??? It's impossible!

Publishing DPS single edition apps to google play store /amazon?

is it possible to deploy DPS apps not only to iOS, but also to android and amazon versions and publish them in the corresponding stores? Or does this work only for multi-issue apps?

Hi Rallescreen,
No. Single Edition is only for iPad devices. However, Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition allow publication to the Android platform as well. Those two editions include Content Viewer for iPad, Content Viewer for Android, and Content Viewer for Desktop, so you can create content for iPad and all Android based tablets.

Apple single edition rejection

Good afternoon,
We are getting hopeless here, as we had our app rejected for the 3rd time, and this time in appeal.
Didnt have any problem with our previous 3 app released last year. This one is designed as an interactive single edition magazine (look), with over 100 screens.
2.21: Apps that are simply a song or movie should be submitted to the iTunes store. Apps that are simply a book should be submitted to the iBookstore
First of all, we have extensive use of interactive elements as:
- Camera API used
- Slideshows
- Hi-resolution audios and videos
- Scrollable content
- Multistate MSO with hide and reveal buttons
- Revealing swipe image sequence
- Advanced inter-app linking
- Smooth scrolling screens
Also, some of our target markets are not even allowed to buy books...

When you submitted your appeal did you explicitly call out the interactive elements in your application that go above and beyond a basic book? You provided a great list in your original post. Did you include that in your appeal, pointing out specific pages/places in your app where those interactive elements exist? The use of the Camera API in particular is helpful, since that isn't something you can do with iBooks Author and would preclude you from using iBooks and submitting it to the app store.
