DPS subscriptions: Background Downloads working?

Last week I subscribed to The New Yorker to test iTunes subscriptions, Adobe DPS and Newsstand.
The newest issue "January 9, 2012" appears in my newsstand, but without the red badge on the newsstand icon, no notification at all and not downladed.
when I tap the new cover in the newsstand rack, the New Yorker App just starts and displays the old issue I was reading before.
Is this the supposed behaviour?
I thought the newest issue will be downladed in the background (background downloads are activated in settings)

I set my iPad's language to english and wow — The NewYorker looks amazing. They have a beautiful and great store.
As far as I could recognize it, today the newsstand showed to correct cover for the new issue without opening it (the app might be running in the background).
But background downloads and notification: still not working.
the newsstand SHOULD look like this, right?
when I open the new yorker app now I still get this: all issues purchased but not downloaded.
Is there something wrong at the NewYorker or is this a server issue?
am I supposed to see the progress of the background download inside the library view of the viewer?

    The very first thing you should have done when you got the new External was to change to Mac compatible to Extended and Journaled then all will be well again. Get out the paperwork that came with the Drive and read it.

  • Migration from DPS subscription to Creative Cloud

    Hi there,
    I come to this forum for a DPS account problem because no other form of Adobe support seems able to solve my problem.
    I have been using DPS since the beta days and then subscribed to DPS professional although I create only Single-folio apps (no other product choice at the time).
    When this yearly subscription was about to run out, I considered migrating to Creative Cloud, which had been released by then and seemed perfect for my needs: CS6 and as many Single-folio as I needed to produce.
    Right now, with my Creative Cloud subscription working fine, I can create my folios to the point where I transfer them directly to the iPad; no problem this far. But it’s when I would need to open the App Builder and get a single-folio app generated that I’m stuck. When I enter my Creative Cloud credentials (with an Adobe ID which happens to be the same I used for my former DPS subscription), I get a message that my DPS account has been deactivated. It seems my Adobe ID is still linked to the DPS subscription that ran out and isn’t identified as a Creative Cloud account…
    Here’s the whole message (translated from french): ‘This account has been deactivated. Your DPS subscription isn’t up to date, try another ID or contact your Adobe representative to update your account’
    I tried Instant messaging support to end up reading there was nothing the support person whom I was chatting with could do. So I tried phone support, not successful either. I’ve tried getting into my Creative Cloud settings to see if I could create another Adobe ID, but found nothing. To this day, I’m still unable to open the DPS App Builder and generate an app.
    Maybe there’s something I’m missing. For info, all my software is up to date.
    If anyone has a clue as to where I could try next to get that problem solved, it would be more than welcome, I’ve been unable to produce any single-folio app for more than a month now.

    I figured this was the problem, but I was hoping it would’nt have to come to canceling CCM subscription and purchasing a new one. But if it’s the easiest way, then that’s what I’ll do.

  • Control Xcode background downloads

    Hello,
    I have 4.3.2 and I have noticed that Xcode downloads iOS simulators and Device Debugging Support in the background. These files seem to average slightly more than half a gig, so they are not small updates by any means.
    I have the checkbox "Check for and install updates automatically" unchecked, yet these sneaky background downloads continue. I've noticed that if I close Xcode during one of these downloads, instead of gracefully saving the position it is at and resuming when I reopen Xcode, the download starts over when I reopen Xcode. Oh, and I don't code for iOS, so all of that is a waste anyway.
    So my question is, is there a way to stop these downloads since the checkbox seems to have no control over it?

    Click the settings button at the bottom left of the Podcasts view. Change the Podcast Defaults to something other than Download All, then, if you want adjust individual subscriptions.

  • Subscriptions Not Downloading

    Since implementing of the mandatory byte-range code, we've had some unique problems with iTunes allowing our podcasts to be subscribed to. For what ever reason iTunes seems to refuse to download future episodes of podcasts. It will at times pull one new episode, but many others are experience on going problems not being able to download new shows automatically which translates in thousands of downloads lost from iTunes alone from previous months. =(
    The feed in itself validates fine except itunes:subtitle is over the character limit... Which I assume is only going to be a cosmetic issue.
    Here is the code we use for byte-range compliance.

    Once this was implemented, iTunes loved us and iPad/iPhone downloads worked great... With the loss of subscription downloads.
    What we can rule out:
    Both Windows and Mac are experiencing the issue.
    Upgrading to the newest version of iTunes doesn't seem to fix anything.
    Feed is valid with exception to the character limit.
    All of our feeds are generated using PHP and simply pull the info from the MySQL database... all pretty simple in that reguard.
    I'll post links to our feeds if needed... I wasn't exactly sure of the etiquette for that here...

    As you report, the 'itunes:subtitle' tags are too long: this shouldn't have any effect except that they will be truncated in the iTunes display. Otherwise far as I can see the feed is OK.

    I"m always a bit dubious about using scripts in this way, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems here - as I say it can be subscribed to, and it also plays from the Store page OK (on a Mac) - I can't check it on an iOS device.
    When it comes to byte-range, it doesn't matter if the server is compatible if the script itself is not... If iTunes isn't told the actual byte-range it will error out even if the server is byte-range compatible...
    I can't challenge this statement because I don't have any experience of servers: by 'script' do you mean the php calling the episode? I'm afraid PHP is outside my experience as well, so all I'm able to do is to report as I have above, which I'm afraid doesn't take you any further forward.

    You can try using this tool to first remove all traces of Reader from your computer:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
    Then, you can download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
    After downloading, restart your computer and run the installer before doing anything else.

    I just got my mac a month ago so go easy on me but I was just working with the pages that was already on it, and then today I know it updated, and now I am unable to open a lot of my documents!:(  Idk what you mean by the icloud version lol sorry! As for the version, when I open pages from my apps and click 'about' it says version 5.1? And when I open the document it just goes grey and kind of blinks and doesnt open?     I've checked it with both data connection & Wi-Fi. My Lumia 730 is not supporting background downloading. It stops when i do some other task on my phone & have to restart it each time & also sometimes d page crashes..

    What are you downloading exactly? In windows phone only the app which is currently in foreground will be executed. If any up is in background it will be stopped. Exeptions are speciall background tasks, provided by some apps. Execution of background task could be allowed or blocked in energy saver settings for each app which provides background tasks.
    Please check if the app you are using provides background tasks and check if background tasks are allowed for this application.

    Subscriptions are handled via the application manager/ CCApp. Sign in on creative.adobe.com, download the app, let it install the product you paid for based on your credentials, i.e. your Adobe ID.

    You can't. Kindle is a different ecosystem than iTunes. Generally, you choose your book ecosystem and you stick with it or you have books in both (or in several).
    There is a Kindle app for the iPad and iPhone that is just as good (and in my opinion substantially better) than the Apple iBook app.
    Most purchased books (but not all) have Digital Rights Management that prevent them from being shared or moved easily. Books purchased on iTunes are meant to be used on your iPad with iBooks. Books purchased on Amazon Kindle are meant to be used on your Kindle apps.
