DPS Update makes pages jittery

Pardon the un-technical term, but I'm working on a project with a mix of smooth scrolling and static, vertically-navigable articles. Before updating my DPS tools and the Content Viewer app, everything worked fine. But now, multi-page articles seem jumpy when I swipe to advance between page views on my iPad 3 (the app was built only for retina display). It takes a few tries to swipe down to the next page. Oddly, two-page articles don't seem to have this problem. I'm only seeing it when articles are 3+ pages.
Any ideas??

Hi Neil,
Two questions for you:
Do you happen to have a more concrete release date for v23? My client is eager to submit this app to iTunes. They have a trade show on 9/27 and would really like to show off the public version at that time.
We plan to release the app as a Single Edition. What does the updating process look like if we submit a v22 app to Apple's reviewers, but with the hope of having a bug-free v23 update as soon as possible? Do we have to pay the Single Edition publishing fee every time we submit the app for Apple's review? I've gone through a similar submission process before, but not with the DPS. I really hope we don't have to pay to submit a v23 update, when it's due to software issues outside of our control.

    Moved to DPS forum.
You need to set up the pages appropriately for the target device. For iPad that's 1024x768.

  • HOT TIP to make pages load faster (img background?)

OK this obviously won't apple to everyone but... I managed to DRAMATICALLY reduce the page load time.
Firstly, this tip is for you if you're using a background image on your page - in the content for example - where I'm using mine.
iWeb, for some reason known only to the developers, creates a PNG image the COMPLETE size of your web page!
So if you're site is 700px wide and you've got a lot of photos on a page then it could go say 3000px in height. iWeb will create a 700px X 3300px (or so) PNG with your background.
THIS WAS 1.4MB!!!! for me..... absolutely crazy!
They put in no-repeat on the background CSS.
    So how to fix this...
    It's actually quite easy
    1) Publish to a directory
    2) using photoshop or some other image editing tool that can open PNG files, open up the largest background_image1.png - largest being largest in px X px - e.g. 700 X 3300 is bigger than 700X1800
    3) crop the image in width from 700px to 5px - yep you read that right - crop it to 5px!
(Now obviously this depends on the image you're using in the background but I am assuming that most images are patterns that repeat horizontally... if you have another image that repeats horizontally and is bigger than 5px then make the image as wide as your repeating image)
    4) save the image as a JPG
    5) open MassReplaceIt
    6) create a query where you replace /background_image1.png) no-repeat with /background_image1.jpg) repeat-x
    7) set it to update all HTML pages that use a background
    8) copy the JPG to all folders that have the background image (unfortunately as the folder name is different it's difficult to just put the image in the /images directory - and i don't know how to use wildcards in massreplaceit - any tips welcome)
NOTE: I am using the same image background on all pages for consistency therefore I have the same filename - I am assuming that it's like that for everyone - the filename that is - so checkout that the replace will work for you.
Well hope that helps you - I managed to reduce the page load times dramatically and now I can actually consider using iWeb for generating pages for my family in Australia who are still on 56Kbit modems and don't have broadband available.
    Cheers
    Jason

Your entire home page is made entirely from
    images.....consider using some
use of CSS and background colour, minimal graphics and some
    actual text, and
you'll be a long way better off.

  • How to update all pages on my website at once with CSS

    Hi everyone,
Ive designed a site using CSS (Thanks to others on the forum..:) and have a column on the right of the homepage for latest news...rather than having to update 30+ pages one by one possibly each week....how can I make changes to my homepage and this in turn updates all pages...
When creating the site I always used "Save all" I'm still working on the homepage but then realized once I rename that to the 30+ others and change content on each etc.....any changes will have to be made one by one...
I am not using an external style sheet....
I only want to change a few lines on the latest news section and have it display on all pages - site wide...
Can anyone help me with this...?
    Thanks in advance...:)
    James

I am not using an external style sheet....
Why the heck not?  It's so much simpler to maintain site wide styles with one style sheet instead of many.

As bregent says, CSS is not going to help you with HTML content.  If your site is already built without the aid of Server-Side Includes or DW Templates, another option is Library Items.

  • Update Multiple Pages

Is it possible to update multiple pages at one time? I am
working on a website for a symphony. They want to have their
upcoming events listed in the sidebar of every page and want to be
able to update the content frequently. But, they have over 50
    pages. Any suggestions?

Either use a Dreamweaver template which will automatically
    update the pages
created from it, it make the sidebar a server side include.

  • Updating child pages from a template in CS4

I built a site that uses one template.  Everything was going along fine I'd make a change to the template and I was able to update all the child pages.  I made changes to the template yesterday and nothing updates.  I try using the update the site... I choose the files that use  and the one template I have and none of the pages update.  I've tries re-saving the template file as a template and still nothing updates.
It has never immediately done an automatic update to the pages.  It always seems to be a while before the update these pages pallette comes up.  And again sometimes it will update all the pages, but most of the time not.
I've done a search of the discussions to see if I could find a solution, before I posted this.  The ones I found do not have a solution that works for me.
So does anyone know what to do?
On a related issue... I usually create a page save the page to the site folder and then apply the template.  I have tried to create the page from the template, but the graphic in the background of the container div doesn't show up.  I usually have to then apply the template to the newly created page to get that to show up.  So what's up with this?
    Thank you!

Try saving the page to the site after creating it, even though the graphic doesn't show up.  It should appear when you save it.
Just for drill, here is my "Seven Common Mistakes" post - do any of these cover your situation?
Here are seven common mistakes that will result in changes not propagating from Template to child -
    1.  Rename the Templates folder
    2.  Move the Templates folder to some other folder level in the site other than root level
    3.  Move a template out of the Templates folder.
    4.  Make changes to an editable region of the Template (which will not propagate)
    5.  Assume that Template changes will be effected by just uploading the changed Template file to the server without also uploading the changed local files
    6.  Corrupt the site cache so that the link between Template and child page is broken
    7.  Improperly create your child pages by simply opening the Template, adding page specific content, and resaving the Template with an *.html extension rather thanits *.dwt extension. (you can tell if this is the case by looking at the code on a child page - if you see anything like <!-- TemplateBeginEditable... then this is what you have done).  If you *have done this*, then recreate the child pages (in DW) using FILE | New > Page from Template, select the Template and click CREATE.
The 6th problem can be repaired by using SITE | Advanced > Recreate Site Cache, and the six others can be fixed by just not doing them.  Have you done any of those?

  • Making DW CS4 Nested Template Head Region Update to Pages

    Using DW CS4...
So I made a template, called main_template, and obviously it has an editable region named head. Now from main_template I made the nested template locations_template. Now I have code that I put in the head region of locations_template. This code does not propagate out to pages created from locations_template. I can't place an editable region within the head section in the nested template. How do I solve this problem?

    > 1st: "Error accessing file "...here appears the file
    name/path..." bad
    > file
    > path (error code 3) OKAY
This usually means you have other files open that may belong
    to templates
not in the current site. Make sure that you have other such
    files closed
and you won't get this error.
    > 2nd: When I click the OKAY button I get: "There is an
    error at line 5,
    > Column
    > 35 (absolute position 54) of "...here appears the file
    name/path..." :
    > Nested
    > edible regions.
This usually means you have an error in the template file -
    we would need to
see its code to diagnose further.
    > When I check the code at line 5 or 54 I find nothing
    relevant to "Nested
    > edible regions".
It could be referring to code errors like a missing
    </head>, or <body> tag,
    too.

  • Help : Update HTML  page

    Hi All ......
I want to update continusely my web page not full just
some value which come from server by servlet, How i can
do, I know servlet just work on servlet...
    thankx in advance

You can use a combination of DHTML, JavaScript and Java Applets.
The Applet would be a small applet at the bottom of the page with no graphics to show on the screen. The Applet would make periodic calls to a servlet using HttpURLConnection.
If the data has changed then the Applet would use Java-to-JavaScript communication (LiveConnect) to call a JavaScript method to update the page.
    http://developer.netscape.com/docs/manuals/js/client/jsguide/index.htm
The JavaScript could update the page through one of the following methods:
DIV/LAYER tags - be careful of cross browser issues
    IFRAME
INPUT tags - ugly but doable.

  • Updating Home Page

When I update any page on my iWeb site it creates a notification on facebook.  However, clicking on the link in facebook takes the user to the homepage, and not the page that has been updated. Is there any way to make the facebook link point towards the specific page that has been updated, OR, can something be automatically inserted on the homepage that shows what has been updated elsewhere on the iWeb site?

you must be referring to a Web Shortcut on your dock.
Click it... does it open Safari? yes? Ok... now open prefs, and set to current page.
if not, copy the url from the browser it does open, and paste it into the Safari prefs.
    Am i missing something ?

  • Updating Web Pages for Internet Explorer?

I'm an amateur web author who is confused about the new requirement for replace the <embed> tags. Quite honestly, I usually copied and pasted examples from books or web sites to write the code correctly. Now there is JavaScript to contend with.
I have gone to Apple Developer's page, <http://developer.apple.com/internet/ieembedprep.html>and to be honest it is going to be a challenge.
Does anyone know of other sites or resources that will help me deal with the road blocks that Microsoft has put in our way?
    Hank Kearns

I used the "external" javascript method because I have over 100 pages to update.
Since you need to open each html file to update the code adding two different "pastes" isn't any harder.
I first used BBEdit to add the javascript link to all of my pages (one click simple) and then used PAGEot to generate the new page code:
    http://www.qtbridge.com/pageot/pageot.html
Many of my pages also use other javascript files and I keep them all in one folder (named JS) inside my Sites folder. This reduces bandwidth and makes page loading a bit quicker. When people find my site they usually click on many pages looking at my "movies".

I just uninstalled it and am waiting for it to reinstall. I sincerely hope that I have not lost everything that I worked on so hard. Now that mobile me is gone, I have not been able to go between devices to transfer things. I was merely trying to take a document I had worked on and open it in pages, but it said my version was too old. When I updated, it wouldn't load. Now I cannot do anything. I hope that the reinstall fixes it without losing everything. Please advise!!! Yes, I am in panic mode.

  • Recent Pages update isn't recognized on my MacBook Pro. Tried to open a document I created and I get a message that says I need to update to newer version to open that document. How do I reload the latest update for Pages in Maverick?

After updates to Pages and several other applications I received an update to Mavericks 10.9, all of which were downloaded and uploaded to my MacBook Pro. After the uploads I created a document in Pages which I saved to my folder. Now when I try to open it I      get a message that says I need the latest version of Pages to open this document. What do I need to do to reload the last update to Pages so I can open my document?

In both cases you have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Judging from sterling r's response Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 90 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:
    http://www.freeforum101.com/iworktipsntrick/viewforum.php?f=22&sid=3527487677f0c 6fa05b6297cd00f8eb9&mforum=iworktipsntrick
Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

Since I have updated my pages my print orientation button is not working. amy ideas as to why that is and are ther many people with this problem???

We are all busy with many other problems in Pages 5.
Unless you have found some real reason to use Pages 5 just go back to Pages '09 which should still be in your Applications folder, until Apple sorts this all out.

Well, here's what I found out that works for me...
I had a Pages icon on my dock, and launching it brought up version 4.3.  But I went to my Apps folder and found the new updated icon there and when I launced that it brought up version 5.01.  So apparently the Apple update process left two versions launchable on my iMac.  Weird...
