DPS vs Indesign

Is it required to buy DPS, if i already have indesign? What is the difference? I understand the broader difference that indesign is used to produce the content and DPS is used to view the content. But what is the need to buy a standalone DPS? Also can you please let me know how safe is to upload my folio files on the https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/. Is there a way to directly transfer the files from indesign to iPad/Andriods.

I think it is rather safe as Adobe don't want you to publish without paying them. That's why they take the needed steps so that this does not happen 'accidentally'.
A user cannot share content via the Content Viewer unless he/she has access to the content builder account (ie: The user who uploaded the folios to Adobe's) and then shares content on purpose. That can be done in any computer with a connection, though.
That's as safe as letting content into a mobile device can be, in my layman opinion.

An easy example to prove this bug of Indesing CS6: I create a psd with Photoshop CS6, with width 505 pixels, height 317 pixels and a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. This psd is placed on a page in InDesign CS6. Then I try to export it as a tiff with the functions:
fSnapshotUtilsEx->Draw(flags,fullResolutionGraphics,greekBelowPtSize,enableAntiAliasing,tr ansparencyQuality,abortCheck,pVPAttrMap,bDrawNonPrintingObjects);
and
SnapshotUtilsEx-> ExportImageToTIFF (iStream)
The resulting tiff has a width of 506 pixels (one pixel more in width). It will happen the same if we start with a width of 507 pixels, etc.
This error does not occur with Indesign CS5, nor Indesing CC.

DPS and InDesign CC

Just downloaded InDesign CC and testing it out...
When I try to access the Folio Builder it says "A software update is required to use Digital Publishing Suite. Please go to the Help menu and select Updates to get the required software."
When I go to help or Creative Cloud update it says that all my software is up-to-date. I use DPS with InDesign CS6 so not sure why CC is not recognizing DPS.
Any advice?

I can't sign in on my DPS via InDesign

i can't sign in on my DPS via InDesign. Also when I'm trying to sign in https://digitalpublishing.acrobat.com/ in the dashboard only Folio Producer and Get DPS Tools are highlighted.
I have to upload a new issue and i have big problem with that.

If you can sign in to the DPS dashboard, you should be able to sign in via folio builder panel as well. What happens when you try to sign in? Error message?

DPS on InDesign CS6

Hello:
Have you ever tried using DPS (Sprint v19) on the newest (and shining) InDesign CS6?
We need to do some demos and want to know if the Folio Builder and the Folio Producer Tools will be compatible (or are some released so far)

Can't log into DPS in InDesign

I have created a DPS account, but i can't sign in when in InDesign from my Mac.

Use any browser that suits you, Chrome has inbuilt Flash , while Safari uses external flash plugin. I wanted to check if the issue is specifc to a browser (which maybe related to flash).
Most probably this may be related to the ports, also try the following steps in your Indesign :
Quit InDesign and any other CS apps.
Use the Activity Monitor to quit the CS5ServiceManager or CS5.5Service Manager.
Next delete this file based on version: (Back up the file just in case.)
Note:
For example:
/Users/"your user name"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
/Users/"your user name"/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5.5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
Then remove this item from the Keychain Access based on version: Adobe CS5 renga or Adobe CS5.5 renga.
To remove from the keychain, navigate to: /Applications/Utilities and launch the Keychain Access.app
If the lock icon in the upper left appears locked, click it and enter your password to unlock it.
Select the “login” item in the Keychains list in the upper left.
Select “Passwords” from the category list.
Type “renga” in the search field in the upper right.
Lastly, select any matches and press the Delete key.

I can't sign in on my DPS via InDesign anymore

I've posted this before, but nobody seems to be able to help me.
I've been trying to solve the problem by myself and have been looking for answers. Also on this forum.
But the answers I find don't seem to work for me and I really need help.
After updating my InDesign I'm not able to get into my DPS anymore. I need to finish something for school and need to share
a file with my teacher. But, I can't log in and I can't share either.
So could anybody please help me, it's pretty urgent.

DPS or InDesign?

I want to design a book for print, Kindle and iBook. Where do I start? Do I start with Digital Publishing, Single Edition or with InDesign?

InDesign is the tool used to output to DPS, but none of the items you
mention have anything to do with DPS.
Kindle and iBooks are both EPUB based and there is a special app called
iBooks Author that is a dedicated authoring tool for iBooks.

I am designing with Indesign CS6 AND WITH FOLIO TO BE VIEWED ON IPAD WITH ADOBE CONTENT VIEWER, WHEN DO I need digital publishing in this. Do i need to buy DPS seprately

ACV is Adobe Content Viewer. You can use it to preview folios you created with InDesign, and you can share that folio with other people. But if you want to create a custom app, you need to pay. For example, with a full subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud, you can create an unlimited number of Single Edition apps. Single Edition apps include only one folio and they work only on the iPad. To create other types of apps that work on various platforms, you need either a DPS Pro or Enterprise subscription.

Unable to update DPS in InDesign CC

When I downloaded the Adobe Patch installer from link below it says "Updates contact your Administrator if you wish to apply updates on your machine. Updates have been suppressed by the Administrator.

However, I found this file, deleted and it worked!

Build app using dps in indesign

I want to recreate my app in indesign and it keeps asking me to upload again all of the splash screens, etc...is that necessary every time we make a change to our mobile app? There is no way to keep the same settings and rebuild the content???

Only if the app was build from the same machine and the location of your icons has not changed since the last built of your app, Viewer Builder should remember the path to the icons and not ask to re-link the icons again.

Embedded Youtube video is not playing in PDF while it is playing in Adobe Content Viewer - Indesign CC

Hi,
as a newby to DPS with Indesign CC, I'm currently working on a catalog that contains internal jumlinks and embedded youtube video's.
All works fine in preview (Folio Overlay > Preview on desktop).
Then I export to Adobe PDF (Interactive).
When I open the PDF the internal links work just fint.
But the Youtube video is not popping up.
To embed the video I've inserted this code: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6EXxtnTOnqA?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" ></iframe>
And I've selected 'autoplay' in the Folio Overlays
So what am I missing here?

Like I said I'm a Newby, I even don't really understand what you mean with this.
I'm working in de Digital Publishing toolset (I thought that was DPS).
I use Folio Overlays over the embedded youtube code, with autoplay on.
Than I export to PDF interactive, but neither Adobe reader, nor Preview is showing the vid.

Can't sign in to DPS

I am having a lot of trouble signing into DPS from Indesign, Folio Builder, Folio Producer, and Acrobat. Indesign gives me a Network Failure message and Online spins and spins then kicks me out. Prior to this issue i had also made a lot of corrections and updates to articles in folio but non of the edits were coming through in the Content Viewer on iPad. PLEASE HELP!

And it now gives me a network failure error instead of an unknown.

Adobe DPS design upscaling

Hi,
I have a question about resolutions.
I have a 640x480 design, created in InDesign as a test. If I preview this design via file -> preview folio, the desktop viewer starts and simulates just that using the same dimensions. So the desktop viewer frame is also 640x480 in dimensions.
I log in to the DPS in Indesign, create a new folio measuring 1024x768 and upload my folio. If I then preview this publication I get a 1024x768 version in my desktop viewer.
Now the discussion here is not why I am only creating a 640x480 file (it's just a test), but it's about the new preview. I know that in the end the design will be visualized using the 1024x768 ipad. But if I create a smaller design (like I just did), does that mean that he is upscaling (or maybe downscaling, depending on the design?) everything automatically the moment I save it as a folio?
I think the logic answer is yes, but I'm just making sure here.

Actually, Android and iPad viewers treat smaller folios differently. The iPad downloads only content in 4:3 format. In most cases, that means 1024x768. Some publishers who migrate print content create 512x384 folios with 2x resolution (144-ppi) images. This content is scaled up on the iPad. I don't recommend this workflow for a number of reasons, but it's possible. I'm not sure if or how this will change when the iPhone is supported.
Android viewers display folios of any size. They scale down but not up.

DPS Sign in Issues in Folio Builder

The DPS sign-in in the folio builder panel will not recognize my username and password for the DPS in InDesign 6. The user name and password work on the Adobe site, the browser based DPS and in CS 5.5.
InDesign 6 is also fuling updated.
Am I missing something or are other people having this problem?

Yes, I have run the updater on multiple occasions and there are no updates available.
I'm running a trial version of InDesign 6 that was download, updated and worked fully on Friday. I'm currently waiting for my educational purcahse of the Creative Cloud to be approved, which I ordered Friday morning.
I updated one folio to the v20 Content Viewer Friday afternoon then closed the program from 1PM Friday til 7AM Saturday. Immedately upon opening the folio builder panel would not log-in. I have closed the program multiple times, checked for updates and signed in everywhere else possible. I have access to three different DPS usernames, none of which will sign-in in InDesign 6, but all of which work in InDesign 5.5.
I don't think it matters, but for reference I am running the Mac version of InDesign on a 2007 MacBook Pro with 4GB of RAM and a 2.2 GHz Intel Core Duo processor. There is suffient hard drive space to run the program.
