DPT and RPR

Can someone explain the difference between DPT and RPR? Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
RPR will be a new Layer 2 technology standard which is ring-based & similar to Sonet-ring but very far different in operation. It is packet ring technology. But as far as I know that RPR standard is not ready now.
DTP is the ring technology which uses SRP protokol in it. It is Cisco specific protokol & tech. We can say that DTP is the RPR method which Cisco wants to push.

  • VPLS and RPR

    I am getting a lot confused on proposing VPLS or RPR for the metro solution. Can anyone guide me on the plus and minus or comparisons on VPLS and RPR technologies ????
    Some links could be really usefull.
    Thanks in advance

    Based on my understanding, VPLS and RPR cannot be compared to each other since they are two different technologies to perform different functions although these two technologies can work hand in hand. VPLS would give you ethernet multipoint connectivity across many packet-switched technologies. RPR/ Resilient Packet Ring I believe would give you resiliency in the network with theoretical response of 50ms-200ms in fail-over as compared to ethernet technologies like RSTP, STP and Cisco's DPT.

  • Can i use one single fibre to make a DPT ring.

    i don't want protection , may i just user one outer ring or inner ring to make a DPT ring.
    can i use DPT line card as a normal pos interface
    thank you!
    tom

    "may i just user one outer ring or inner ring to make a DPT ring"
    As per my knowledge DPT will not work in one fiber. As data flows in one fiber and control in other.
    As far as i know even with POS card you will not be able to form ring with just one fiber.
    WHat you can do is if you do not need protection and have only one fiber for connectivity. Take WDM based single fiber solution means Transmit on one wavelength and receive on different so this way you have bidirectional communication without protection. Only thing whether such thing is available or not for the product you are looking at.
    "can i use DPT line card as a normal pos interface '
    You can use DPT card as POS if it is made like that such as
    this card for 7600 is both DPT and POS

    one more which can be used by both DPT and POS

    But this one cannot be used for both as it is made only for DPT

  • Delay when querying from CUBE_TABLE object, what is it?

    Hi Guys,
    We are using Oracle OLAP 11.2.0.2.0 with an 11g Cube, 7 Dimensions, Compressed and partitioned by Month.
    We have run into a performance issue when implementing OBIEE.
    The main issue we have is a delay while drilling on a hierarchy. Users have been waiting 7-12 seconds per drill on a hierarchy, and the query is only returning a few cells of data. We have managed to isolate this to slow performing queries on CUBE_TABLE.
    For example, the following query returns one cell of data:
    SELECT FINSTMNT_VIEW.BASE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.REPORT_TYPE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.COMPANY, FINSTMNT_VIEW.SCENARIO, FINSTMNT_VIEW.PRODUCT, FINSTMNT_VIEW.ACCOUNT, FINSTMNT_VIEW.SITE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.TIME
    FROM "SCHEMA1".FINSTMNT_VIEW FINSTMNT_VIEW
    WHERE
    FINSTMNT_VIEW.REPORT_TYPE IN ('MTD' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.COMPANY IN ('E01' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.SCENARIO IN ('ACTUAL' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.PRODUCT IN ('PT' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.ACCOUNT IN ('APBIT' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.SITE IN ('C010885' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.TIME IN ('JUN11' ) ;
    1 Row selected in 4.524 Seconds
    Note: FINSTMNT_VIEW is the automatically generated cube view.
    CREATE OR REPLACE FORCE VIEW "SCHEMA1"."FINSTMNT_VIEW" ("BASE","REPORT_TYPE", "COMPANY", "SCENARIO", "PRODUCT", "ACCOUNT", "SITE", "TIME")
    AS
    SELECT "BASE", "REPORT_TYPE", "COMPANY", "SCENARIO", "PRODUCT", "ACCOUNT", "SITE", "TIME"
    FROM TABLE(CUBE_TABLE('"SCHEMA1"."FINSTMNT"') ) ;
    If we increase the amount of data returned by adding to the query, it only increased the query time by .4 seconds
    SELECT FINSTMNT_VIEW.BASE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.REPORT_TYPE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.COMPANY, FINSTMNT_VIEW.SCENARIO, FINSTMNT_VIEW.PRODUCT, FINSTMNT_VIEW.ACCOUNT, FINSTMNT_VIEW.SITE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.TIME
    FROM "SCHEMA1".FINSTMNT_VIEW FINSTMNT_VIEW
    WHERE
    FINSTMNT_VIEW.REPORT_TYPE IN ('MTD' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.COMPANY IN ('E01' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.SCENARIO IN ('ACTUAL' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.PRODUCT IN ('PT' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.ACCOUNT IN ('APBIT' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.SITE IN ('C010885', 'C010886', 'C010891', 'C010892', 'C010887', 'C010888', 'C010897', 'C010893', 'C010890', 'C010894', 'C010896', 'C010899' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.TIME IN ('JUN11' ) ;
    12 rows selected - In 4.977 Seconds
    If we increase the data returned even more:
    SELECT FINSTMNT_VIEW.BASE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.REPORT_TYPE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.COMPANY, FINSTMNT_VIEW.SCENARIO, FINSTMNT_VIEW.PRODUCT, FINSTMNT_VIEW.ACCOUNT, FINSTMNT_VIEW.SITE, FINSTMNT_VIEW.TIME
    FROM "SCHEMA1".FINSTMNT_VIEW FINSTMNT_VIEW
    WHERE
    FINSTMNT_VIEW.REPORT_TYPE IN ('MTD' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.COMPANY IN ('ET', 'E01', 'E02', 'E03', 'E04' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.SCENARIO IN ('ACTUAL' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.PRODUCT IN ('PT', 'P00' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.ACCOUNT IN ('APBIT' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.SITE IN ('C010885', 'C010886', 'C010891', 'C010892', 'C010887', 'C010888', 'C010897', 'C010893', 'C010890', 'C010894', 'C010896', 'C010899' )
    AND FINSTMNT_VIEW.TIME IN ('JUN11', 'JUL11', 'AUG11', 'SEP11', 'OCT11', 'NOV11', 'DEC11', 'JAN12') ;
    118 rows selected - In 14.213 Seconds
    If we take the time for each query and divide by the number of rows, we can see that querying more data results in a much more efficient query:
    Time/Rows returned:
    1 Row - 4.524
    12 Rows - 0.4147
    118 Rows - 0.120449153
    It seems like there is an initial delay of approx 4 seconds when querying the CUBE_TABLE object. Using AWM to query the same data using LIMIT and RPR is almost instantaneous...
    Can anyone explain what this delay is, and if there is any way to optimise the query?
    Could it be the AW getting attached before each query?
    Big thanks to anyone that can help!

    Thanks Nasar,
    I have run a number of queries with logging enabled, the things you mentioned all look good:
    Loop Optimization: GDILoopOpt     COMPLETED
    Selection filter: FILTER_LIMITS_FAST     7
    ROWS_FAILED_FILTER     0
    ROWS_RETURNED     1
    Predicates: 7 pruned out of 7 predicates
    The longest action I have seen in the log is the PAGING operation... but I do not see this on all queries.
    Time Total Time OPERATION
    2.263     27.864          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     9926KB to 59577KB
    1.825     25.601          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     8274KB to 49651KB
    1.498     23.776          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     6895KB to 41377KB
    1.232     22.278          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     5747KB to 34482KB
    1.17     21.046          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     4788KB to 28735KB
    1.03     19.876          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     3990KB to 23947KB
    2.808     18.846          PAGING     DYN_PAGEPOOL     TRACE     GREW     3325KB to 19957KB
    What is strange is that the cube operation log does not account for all of the query time. For example:
    SELECT "BASE_LVL" FROM TABLE(CUBE_TABLE('"EXAMPLE"."FINSTMNT"'))
    WHERE
    "RPT_TYPE" = 'MTD' AND
    "ENTITY" = 'ET' AND
    "SCENARIO" = 'ACTUAL' AND
    "PRODUCT" = 'PT' AND
    "GL_ACCOUNT" = 'APBIT' AND
    "CENTRE" = 'TOTAL' AND
    "TIME" = 'YR09';
    This query returns in 6.006 seconds using SQL Developer, if I then take the CUBE_OPERATION_LOG for this query and subtract the start time from the end time, I only get 1.67 seconds. This leaves 4.3 seconds unaccounted for... This is the same with the my other queries, see actual time and logged time below:
    Query     Actual     Logged      Variance
    S3     6.006     1.67     4.336
    L1     18.128     13.776     4.352
    S1     4.461     0.203     4.258
    L2     4.696     0.39     4.306
    S2     5.882     1.575     4.307
    Any ideas on what this could be or how I can capture this 4.3 second overhead?
    Your help has been greatly appreciated.

  • Hierarchy Exit variable in BPS

    Hi,
    I have a pb:
    I have a hier  (ZHIER) based on InfoObject YIndic:
    - Node : Text node
              - Region : Characteristic node (char: Yregion) ex: 1
                       - Dpt: Text node   ex: 1P2
                              - Indic : Characteristic node (char: YIndic)
              - Region : Characteristic node (char: Yregion) ex: 2
                       - Dpt: Text node ex: 2P3
                              - Indic : Characteristic node (char: YIndic)
    In planing Layouts (BPS), I'd like to display only Indics related to the Dpt and the region of the user. So I'd like to use a Hierarchy Exit variable to take the right node.
    I wrote the following code (I replaced working variables by real values):
      ls_hiersel-chanm = 'YINDIC'.
      ls_hiersel-hienm = 'ZHIER'.
      ls_hiersel-nodename  = '1P2'.
      ls_hiersel-hiever   = 'A'.
      ls_hiersel-hiecha   = '0HIER_NODE'.
      ls_hiersel-dummy_leaf   = ''.
      ls_hiersel-dateto   = '99991231'.
      CLEAR ls_chadep.
      ls_chadep-chanm = 'YREGION'.
      ls_chadep-chavlint = '1'.
      APPEND ls_chadep TO ls_hiersel-to_chadep.
      INSERT ls_hiersel INTO TABLE et_hie_nodes.
    ENDFUNCTION.
    My problem is that when I launch my layout, the system tell "the node 1P2 doesn't existing" but node is effectively existing. I thing that BPS doesn't know where to search my node but I took this piece of code from another function and I don't know how to tell to BPS where to search the node. It's maybe at the end of the code but I'm a Beginner in ABAP.
    Can anybody can help me please?
    Many thanks.
    J Sorel

    Thanks for your help.
    Could you explain me please what does the code I wrote and your modification (I have not tried yet)?
    I took this piece of code from an existing function module but due to my Abap level I can't understand what I do. I think that BPS doesn't undertands where (in which level) to search the node. Is there in the code you wrote an information related to the level where the node is?
    Many thanks

  • When reading the Rich Text present in Excel column using open XML its taking it as plain text

    Hello All,
    When i am reading excel columns using open Xml in C# everything is working fine except the column that
    contain Rich Text (ex: bold, italic,color,size). Its reading the Rich Text content as plain text. As we know for Rich Text in open XML we get the text as Runs (C#
    object) which contains the text as value and rpr as run properties. I have also written the code to convert Runs to html. But the issue is that for some Rich Text format its reading it as Runs but most of the Rich Text its reading it as plain text.
    The issue i am getting is, for some rich text its creating RUN and for some of the rich text its not creatingRUN.
    Let me give the example for more understanding:
    Suppose i have two cells in excel which contains the below text.
    1. Rich Text
    1
    2. RichText
    2
    Now when i read these cells using the below code
    var stringTable =spreadsheetDocument.WorkbookPart.GetPartsOfType<SharedStringTablePart>().FirstOrDefault();
    if (stringTable.SharedStringTable.ElementAt(index1).ChildElements.GetItem(0).GetType().Name == "Run")
    Custom code to convert Rich text to HTML...
    else
    Read the plain text...
    Though both the cell contains rich text, one is going in RUN block and one is going in Plain text bloc.
    Also, one thing that i have noticed is when i use standard color for text its consider it as RUNS and when i use color apart from the standard color it does not consider it as RUNS. Same behavior occurs for different combination of text viz. bold, italic, underline
    etc

  • ML1000 RPR load balancing and multicast problem

    Hello,
    We have SDH network consisting in a STM16 ring with 7 ONS15454 MSPP nodes, sw version 9.0.1. In each node we have a ML1000-2 card connected in a RPR configuration through VC4-8C(8x155Mbs) circuits.
    My questions:
    Q1 We had expected the ring to balance itself but instead 90% of the traffic is going anti-clockwise which is the direction of the POS-0.
    Q2 We are not able to transmit Multicast packets and we sometimes have problems with udp losses. Could this be due to a bad configuration of the ML-1000? Should we investigate higher in the core switches(6500’s)?
    Thanks

    Manuel,
    I just published a document on load balancing on the ML card.  (ML Load Balancing after 5.doc).
    Check the document section in the Optical Forum.
    Also check the on-line configuration guide.

    As for question #2.  o may find some answers on multicast in the load balancing document or configuration guide.  If not, I suggest opening a TAC case so they can verify your ML configuration.

  • RPR+ and VLAN creation on Cat6500 running IOS

    I've got a 6500 running native IOS 12.1(19)E1. I want to create a new VLAN on this switch but ran across some documentation that states:RPR+ redundancy does not support a configuration entered in VLAN database mode. Use global configuration mode with RPR+ redundancy.
    I am running RPR+.
    I've never done it this way before and after reading over the documentation to do this it seems to easy. It seems like I'm missing something. Can someone outline the steps to do this?
    Thanks,

    Hi Jeff,
    I believe you are referring to the following restriction in this document:
    http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/12_1e/swconfig/redund.htm#wp1095579
    "RPR+ redundancy does not support configuration entered in VLAN database mode. Use global configuration mode with RPR+ redundancy"
    vlan creation via vlan database has been deprecated in order to simplify the configuration process as well as to better integrate with features such as RPR+
    Here's a simple example that creates vlan10 (assume VTP transparent mode):
    Router# configure terminal
    Router(config)# vlan 10
    Router(config-vlan)#
    This document explains the process further in case you don't already have it.

  • Service Dpt. got troubles repairing my mac and give me alternative options.. What option should I choose? Help!

    I got a MacBookPro few months ago (October 2011)
                       17-inch, Early 2011
    Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory     4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics   AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Software   Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
    But for multiple issues I had to take it back. After several repairs, they offered me the three options below as the 17-inch MBP is discontinued(?).. Which one should I choose?
    The main reason I want a 17-inch screen is that I am working with graphics and also I move often, so I can't afford carrying an iMac around.
    1. Replace the unit with this 15-inch Macbook Pro - this would take approximately 2 weeks to arrive
    15-inch MacBook Pro
    • Part number: Z0MV
    • 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    • 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    • 128GB Solid State Drive
    • SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    • MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Antiglare Widescreen Display
    • Backlit Keyboard (US) & User’s Guide (English)
    • Accessory Kit
    2. Replace the unit with a 15-inch Macbook Pro Retina - this could take approximately 4-6 weeks
    15-inch: 2.3GHz Retina display
    2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    256GB flash storage1
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
    Built-in battery (7 hours)2
    3. We repair your unit in store as soon as possible.
    Can you help me out please?
    1) I am afraid that if I choose the third option, I won't be able to fix my MBP in the future in case that there are no spare parts (for example, if I get problems with the screen).
    2) I don't understand how equal are the three models based on their prices...

    "Another reason that makes me worry, is that I may go live in a country which doesn't have an Apple Store. (but they do have Apple representative suppliers)."
    Then what's the worry? Consider how long you intend to own this MBP. Figure 3 years. Buy AppleCare to make sure you're covered.You're obsessing about an issue that may or may not happen. This is just my opinion. The other opinions are, from what I read, based upon what each poster wants, not what you need. You've got to assess your own requirements.

    Document Lists view should include option to sort by and display file Size (bytes), as in all other file tools.
    That would permit discovery of duplicate files with different names, and trimming out the largest files to save space.

  • Can Policy Routing be configured on the RPR interface?

    We have three 10720 routers connected via RPR ring. And we found the policy routing is not working, however the same config works on Ethernet interfaces.

    Are you applying the config on the DPT interface or the Ethernet interface? I'd be suprised if you could configure any policy routing on the DPT interface. Rather I would have thought it should be applied on the Ethernet interfaces involved in the connection. Bear in mind that the router function of the 10720 does not really see the DPT ring, but as logical point to point links.

  • Optimizing system for best performance/stability and a custom kernel

    I have ArchLinux running on a MacBook 4.1 (early 2008), and it's running very well so far. But I would like to optimize it for best performance and stability (but not at the cost of losing 'graphical interface' quality). I want to compile a custom kernel, and I actually did once, but didn't do it well (and removed it), so I need some help from experts to tell me what should I disable or enable when compiling a custom kernel.
    I will post dmesg and lspci (and rc.conf) here, but if you need any other information, please tell me.
    Thanks.

    This might not help you a lot, but if you want a stable system, try using packages from the repo wherever possible, look at the news before you update your system and don't mess things up (like bad configuration etc.).
    When it comes to performance, you won't gain much by compiling linux by yourself! Just use the linux package from [core] or if you want a bit more performance, install the ck-kernel from
    [repo-ck]
    Server = http://repo-ck.com/$arch
    (this has to go to the bottom of /etc/pacman.conf)
    (use that one which is best for your cpu (in your case this might be the package linux-ck-corex).
    Hmmm, Linux-ck-corex doesn't even load.. I am now trying to install the generic one. Hope it works.
    Edit: I will first try linux-lqx...

  • Retention Policy and Managed folder based retention

    What is difference between "Retention Policy/ Policy Tags" and " Managed Content Settings"?
    In my setup , my managed folder folder become general folder after following steps
    1. Created Managed folder
    2. Created managed content settings for IPM.post and IPM.Appointment with retention action "Delete and Allow recovery".
    3. Created managed policy and applied to 1 mailbox, and this is working properly
    But After that,
    1. Created 3 retention tags(1 for inbox, 1 for sent, 1 personal).
    2. Created retention policy combining these 3 tags.
    3. Applied to SAME mailbox
    4. Ran 'ManagedFolderAssitant'
    **After this, Managed folder become general outlook folder.
    So, cant I have "Managed folder based retention for managed folders" and General retention for "Inbox,Sent"

    Exchange 2010 RTM introduced Retention Policies as the successor to the Message Records Management (MRM) technology introduced in Exchange 2007. MRM was the successor to Mailbox Manager Policies in Exchange 2003. Message Records Management is called MRM
    1.0 and Retention Policies is being called MRM 2.0 for short. MRM 1.0 as well as MRM 2.0 are both available in Exchange 2010. Only difference is we can manage Retention Policies from the EMC and EMS, but the Managed Folder Mailbox Policy is only Managed from
    the EMS through cmdlets in Exchange 2010 SP1.
    It completely depends on your requirements when to use MRM 1.0 and when to Use MRM 2.0.
     Certain new features are added in MRM 2.0 (Retention Policy) which allow us to manage our mailbox email items at very granular level. But if we are still happy with earlier version MRM 1.0 then we can continue using Managed folder mailbox
    Policy in Exchange 2010.
    [ Note: If we are Using the Retention Policy (MRM 2.0) then we can view the expiry of  each and every email items of the folders on which the retention Policy is tagged and this can be only view from OWA and Outlook 2010, But this feature
    is not available  for  Managed Folder Mailbox Policy (MRM 1.0) ]
    We cannot use the Base Folder only switch in MRM 2.0 because it is TAG  specific (DPT, RPT, and PPT) not Managed Folder specific.
    Managed folder Mailbox Policy is folder specific this would be the major difference.
    Refer to this link :
    Retention policies vs Managed folders
