DPX Image Squence

I am having trouble importing a dpx image sequence into Color. Can someone point me in the right direction?

I am trying to ingest directly with color without FCP in the loop. From what I have read Color does not import from a image sequence it can only export to one. From what I understand I will need to either use a different grading program or convert my image sequences into a MOV. Mov is the only way into the app.

  • Export to DPX Image sequence and keep master clip timecode?

hi guys, shane i hope your out there!!
i need to export (1920x1080i/50) pro-res master conform clips to DPX Image sequence for external grade, every time i've tried it exports fine, but each clips has a default timecode starting from 00..., i need to maintain original t/c as grade is external and i will be recieving files back for re-conform and online etc. i have less than 1 hour to give answers to producer, this is the first time we've used this workflow, i really want it to work as this is what guys like us wake up in the morning for, i'm sure there must be something simple i'm missing. i have a tape ready for a lay off as precaution but i really dont want to be defeated !! i'm using glue tools plug-ins any help would be much appreciated. please help me.
    regards.

i've had to manually override timecodes on export, not at all ideal and tedious as ****, please tell me there is a simpler way of doing this, this plug is supposed to make your life easier, any feedback/advice greatly appreciated.

  • Encoding MPEG2-DVD from dpx image sequences produced random encoding artifacts

I'm using PPro CS 6. I've exported my 90 minute film as a DPX sequence. This image sequence is effectively my master. I then export this DPX sequence as a MPEG2-DVD and I get the following artifacts on random frames. It happens whether I'm exporting PAL (non interlaced) or NTSC (interlaced). I've now run the encoder three separate times and I get random artifacts on completely different frames. I'm checked the DPX images and they are fine so I know this problem is happening in the encoding.
    Thanks.

Here is another example. This time it I was encoding PAL from the DPX sequence.

  • Can't open dpx image sequence anymore

Until very recently I was able to use Compressor to to load dpx image sequences and output a QuickTime movie. This seems to be broken now: The file selector box doesn't accept dpx any more. Was this broken by some update? Is anyone else seeing this? Any solution to this?
    Thanks!

Yes. Before I responded to your question I ran a quick test on 4.0.7 on this system, which is 10.8.3.
I'm not familiar with this particular problem. Is this the only issue you're running into?
Why don't you run Compressor Repair and see whether it straightens things out; make sure trash preferences ox is checked?
    Good luck.

  • Pixel Aspect and Image Squence

Hi, having a problem with pixel aspect ratios (PAR) . I created an 1024 x 768 image sequence in Maya with a PAR of 1.0. Opened in Photoshop- all is fine. Opened in Motion with same settings (height and width and a PAR of 1.0) and the image is stretched or cut off. Went to the media tab and tired all setting with the PAR and no dice. Used custom PAR and "from file" settings and still no dice. Went to Final Cut, imported, set h&W in the sequence setting with same dimension and PAR of 1.0. Much closer to source image but cropped a little at the top and bottom. I tried this with several files with differing h & w dimensions and all are problematic in Motion except if the h & w dimension ratio is 1.0 (e.g., 1000 X 1000 with a PAR of 1.0). Any help? Thanks.

I think I'm getting closer to narrowing down the problem:
1: If I render an image in Maya with an alpha channel and import into Motion, the aspect ratio in the Canvas is not displayed correctly (but is displayed correctly in the Utility window).
2: If I render an image without an alpha channel the aspect ratio in the Canvas is not displayed correctly (but is displayed correctly in the Utility window).
3: If I render an image in Maya with an alpha channel then remove the alpha channel in Photoshop then import into Motion, the aspect ratio in the Canvas is displayed correctly and all is good though this is not an acceptable workaround with a large number of images.
How do you post an image?

  • Trying to Export - Quicktime to DPX - in Linear (R709) Color space NOT LOG

    Hello,
I am trying to export an image sequence through compressor from a Linear (R709) color space. When I try to do the dpx image sequence output it changes the files to LOG.
Is there a way to pass the material through without any color space changes?
    Thank-you,
    Carl

FYI, In the Inspector, and filtes, COLOR tab> Output Color Space: Default for Encoder (CAN NOT BE CHANGED - It is greyed out)

  • LAB gave us a Binary LUT file, how to convert from LOG dpx to Linear space?

    Hello,
We did a Digital Intermediate and we have the data as LOG dpx Image Sequences.
The Production House gave us a Binary LUT file, but refused to give it to us in a Readable Format.
Is there some way I could covert from the LOG file to a corresponding Linear file that I can use to make DVD's etc?
Are 3D LUTs readily available that I can try out? Where can I find them?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

    Hi,
Its good that u pasted the complete log file. In your environment you have to run this upgrade tool only once from any of the middle tier.
And with respect to your error that u got in precheck is quite simple. All u have to do is just run this script from by connecting to portal schema using sqlplus.
    Run dropupg.sql
    Location-------- /raid/product/OraHome_1/upgrade/temp/portal/prechktmp/dropupg.sql
Later you re-run the upgrade tool and let me know the status.
    Good luck

  • Exporting image sequence (tga filetype)

    Hello,
    I'm using Apple® Motion 5.1 on Apple® OS X 10.9.1 Mavericks.
I can only export a project as image sequence with the following filetypes:
    DPX Image
    JPG Image
    OpenEXR
    Photoshop® File
    PNG Image
    TIFF File
How I can export the project as TGA filetype image sequence?
    Thanks.

This is correct, Targa is not an option for export from share in Motion.  My first question would be, is TGA an absolute requirment or preference?  PSD,TIFF or EXR should pretty much be equivelent and and just as well supported in any app that reads image sequences.  If TGA is absolutely required, and you have Compressor, you can use Send To Compressor for share.  Then add an image sequence preset.  Inside compressor you can change the file format to TARGA.
If you don't have Compressor, and again, TGA is an absolute requirment. I'd recomend exporting to tiff and then using a third party app to convert to TGA.

I dont use DPX but it sound like you need to import them as an image seqeunce.
Go to the folder on your harddrive, select the first image and be sure Image Sequence is checked and open.

  • Create EDL with DPX files trouble

    Hi everyone.
I have a problem exporting edls from a sequence containing dpx file formats.
The exported edl writes the dpx sequences as BL (blacks).
    for example

    *FROM CLIP NAME: 01_0000.DPX
FINAL CUT POR REEL: REPLACE BY:
    GlueTools installed.
Is it possible to export and EDL from Final Cut that contains DPX image sequences?
    thanks for answers!!!!!

The missing text issue is a problem that was fixed last year through a Microsoft Hotfix. (it affects other apps besides FM, too).

  • Stacking black images for noise reduction

    Hello,
I do a lot of timelpase photography and use Adobe software in my post workflow. I would like to master the process of using black images to reduce the digital noise of astral timelapses taken at 3200iso. I work in a RAW workflow then output to DPX image sequesnce.
Here is a link to forum topic I started on a timelapse forum with a similar query. I am just wondering if there is a way to do this with Ae in the RAW workflow or something similar. Instead of using other software. Maybe a Ps batch process?
    http://forum.timescapes.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=10955&p=59144#p59144

If you want to investigate a way to do it in AE, you could look at Color Finesse.  It might treat crushing those blacks more gently than anything else.
AE has a denoising effect, but I'd be afraid it would de-noise the stars right off the image.

  • Image sequences

Will Edge eventually support the import of image sequnces the way that After Effects does?

Quite simply put, it is a sequence of images. Flash can
    recognize file
    sequences (e.g. file1.jpg; file2.jpg; file3.jpg; etc.) as an
    image squence
and import them all to the stage or library at the same time.
    This is
useful for Flash designers that import mulitple images that
    are in squences.
Saves a lot of time and clicks.

  • Playback of DPX sequences with quadro nvidia

I am considering buying a nvidia quadro 4000 for mac to playback my 1080P DPX sequences out threw a BlackMagic HD Extreme 3D card.
At the moment i can do it when i select 1/2 Resolution in playback from Premiere CS 5.5.
My disk speed is about 300MB pr sek so that is not the problem.
Does annybody know if the Quadro card will give me any aceleration with that and make me able to play it back at full res ??
    Thank you

    > Hardware acceleration doesn't make it easier to "play" any media files (assuming they match the sequence).  What get's accelerated are certain effects, scaling, deinterlacing, blending modes, etc.  But not simple playback.
    That's correct.
The graphics card doesn't help at all with decoding, nor does it help with reading the data off the disk faster. The reason that people talk about the GPU helping with formats like RED is that you are nearly always scaling RED footage down to use it (since you're almost certainly not using a 4K sequence, and you're almost certainly not previewing on a 4K monitor). The GPU helps enormously with scaling operations if you have a card that Premiere Pro can use for CUDA processing.
DPX image sequences are slow to preview for two reasons: data rate off of the hard disk and CPU speed for the relatively slow decoder. Fast disks and fast CPUs are what you need for fast DPX playback.

  • Conforming project to dpx sequences

    Hi there,
I have an advert I've cut in premier cc and had graded professionally - Ive had dpx image sequences given back to me . Is there a straightforward way to get premier to relink to these sequences?

OK, I chatted with Adobe and after they got back to me via email, here's what they wrote:
    "Hi Sami,
    This is Adobe Technical Support.
We are responding in reference to your case# 0185837302 regarding the Adobe Premiere Pro, I researched the issue and found out that the issue is reproducible on our end.
I have reported the issue to the higher level of support team. They will research on this issue and will try roll out a patch update to fix it."

  • Viewing/rendering log images correctly in Color?

Unless I have missed something there is no way to preview printing density in Color, ie, the image is always linearised on preview, so if DPX image is tagged as 'Log', a log - to - lin conversion is applied on preview
The workaround I am using when working with Log DPX files is to modify their header settings to 'Linear' and set the Printing Density to 'Linear' in Project settings. This way no transfer mode conversion is applied.
I then apply a Display LUT to visualise the print on preview.
This results in a correctly processed log image (without display LUT applied to render), though its header is tagged as Linear, but I can live with that, as other applications generally care less than Color does about transfer mode comments in DPX header
Please advise if there is a more obvious way around this
    cheers
    dan

Silicon Color was trying to "simplify" things, I guess. But certainly there are so many routes to be considered in doing this kind of work and so many individual approaches that one solution is not going to be able to satisfy all. If you supply all the components, but you have to put them together, then people will complain that its like trying to assemble IKEA furniture -- too hard! -- but a pre-built one-click will only be good for one thing and you might as well just trowel on a Magic Bullet look (for example), and that won't satisfy the people who can build their own, but find themselves bound by the limitations of a partial solution.
    Oh, well.
Image Preview in Secondaries and Geometry aren't connected to the Primary In grade, its the un-compensated source file, and this behaviour is the same across the board -- you get the same thing with RED-flow, so what you're looking at in that case is the RAW image rendition with no metadata applied. Can make Secondary keying a real PITA.
