DR server setup from production

Hi Experts,
We are implementing ECC6.0 and also we have to install the DR server also. The data guard integration between our production server and DR server will be done by our hardware vendor.
Now I would like to know that DR server SID will be same as our production server? Actually I installed SAP on DR server and done system copy from production system and the SID kept same as production system.
If the answer is yes then how I will apply license for DR server, as in the SAP market place the SID already registered with production server name. DR server will have different hardware key

Please be noted the following points.
5. Out of four two are NetWeaver_ORA license of two production nodes and two are Maintenance_ORA for two nodes
- For every hardware key, you will have two licenses. One is standard license with respect to DB that is NetWeaver_ORA. Another one is maintenance license with respect to DB that is Mainteanance_ORA. Maintenance license is required when applying support packages through SAINT/SPAM. It has only 3 months validity. When needed or after 3 months you have renew maintenance license.
6. All the four licenses are in green trafic light instad of red colour
- Green light means that license has validity period like 12312999. Red means the license key validity has expired.

- Yes, you have requests new license for DR hardware key in marketplace.
2) old production license is ok
- Yes, don't bother about old PRD license. You should be OK with them. Please make sure you don't delete them.
3) i will keep production license and additionally apply new license
- YES

Print Server setup from start to finish

So it seems like Setting up OSX Server's Print Service is more problematic than many would like to believe. Basically, I have a bunch of printers that are working fine, accept that people are printing to them directly instead of going through the print server. I have followed scores of advice and have not solved the problem. I would love for someone with a working print server (i.e. print quotas working properly) to explain how they configured their machine from start to finish so I can try that. I'm really at my wits end on this one

just want to bump this up to see if we get any responses. i'm having the same issue. i've read through the print service admin documentation and i'm having no luck at all. here is what i've done so far, maybe someone can tell me what's going wrong.
enabled print services in server admin
logged into the server hosting print services and added the printers. printing directly from this server works just fine.
on a client computer added the printer using the server's .lan dns name and using the name of the queue as it appears in server admin's list of queues.
when i try to print from the client, i get an error saying that the host is busy

Migrating an Existing Server Setup to a Raid

I just wanted to pass this by the community in the hopes of avoiding any unexpected results before I embark on this "seemingly" simple project.
I have inherited a small client site that is running Lion server off of a Mac Mini with Dual 500GB drives. The person who originally set this server up opted to split the 2 drives into 2 separate volumes with one volume running OS and data, and the second drive is being used for Time Machine backups of the first drive.
Since I have come on board I am wanting to change this setup and set up a mirrored raid using the 2 internal drives and an external drive for the Time Machine backups. So the question is what is the best way to move forward to accomplish this. Obviously I need to backup the first drive and then reformat the 2 drives into a raid and then restore the server off the back up that I made onto to the new raid. The catch is that I have never done a full server restore. So what is the best way to backup the server and then restore it so as to minimize any headaches?
Should I use something like Carbon Copy Cloner, and if so, would I want to actually create a disk image? Or is it possible to actually restore a full server setup from a Time Machine backup?
Of course another choice would be to remove the first drive from the Mini and replace it with a new drive. Then create the raid and then migrate the server from the first drive that I removed onto the new raid setup. So is there any advantage to migrating vs. restoring?

The cleanest way is to use Disk Utility and create a DMG of the boot volume. Server will be down during this process. Run the scan for restore process once complete. Then create your mirror. Then restore the dmg to the mirror. Do not try to restore from TimeMachine if the systems is an OD master. The sum of the whole will not be equal to the parts.

Server Setup advice for a video production house

Hello Forum,
I recently started working for a small video production company, I need advice on the type of server and other hardware and services that will allow my co-workers to work efficiently. Here are some details:
Currently we are going to buy a new server, I am not sure what we should look at getting,
currently we use a mini mac running OSX server and have 6 iMacs that the editors and other staff use.
We also have a 15 TB Drobo network storage device which is attached to the mini-mac server we are going to replace.
The production team uses Final Cut and Motion to build documentaries.
The other issue is that need a way to connect the office in Baltimore to the office in Washington DC and ideally share files between each location, currently they cannot access the network from Baltimore and have to have a copy of the unedited footage on their own Drobo.
What type of server setup do you recommend? Quad core? speed?
Should we set up a VPN to connect offices or does someone have a better idea, if so what applications do we need?
I know windows networking pretty well, but Mac is totally new to me.Currently editing files from the server is really slow and files are usually pulled to the iMacs to do editing, burning DVDs from files on the server hardly ever works- they pull them local then burn the DVD and it works.
I would love to hear suggestions to help us get up and running.
Anyone know of a good website for server setup- Since there is no Domains in OSX that i know of, how can we secure the network? Links would be great.

Well if your looking for performance. You could get a Promise VTrak E-Class RAID with 32TB of storage, later on you can add more chassis to the raid for more storage space. The raid can be expanded up to 160TB. (80 drive bays, each drive 2 TB)
Using fiber you could attach the raid to an xServer or Mac Pro (running mac os x server). You'll probable want at least 8 or 16 GB of ram on the server.
The server can run a copy of final cut server. Witch makes it easer to work as a group. Mac OS X server, when properly configured, can also be used to create a VPN between both locations.
Final Cut Server will let editors check in/out specific parts of the documentaries. So the project lives on the server; instead of scattered over every ones computers. Part of this is you can pull down thumb nails versions of the video to work off of. Only when you do the final render do you download the HD version of the video.
If you want even better performance on the editing stations. you could also upgrade to Mac Pros. Mac Pros have upgrade slots witch you can use to add fiber networking. You could also use the upgrade slots to add a black magic real time HD capture card.
Or if you want to keep the imacs. you might want to hook the server to a switch by fiber, and have the imacs connected to the same switch by 1000-T

Insert into all tables on a Database on Test Server select from all tables on a database A from production server

hi Friends ,i need a suggestion from you on how to
insert data to all tables on a Database "A " on Test server
Select data from all tables on a Database "A" on Production Server
where id=123
Database A is same with Structures on Test and Production also all Tables will have Id column in common.
The purpose of this insert is ,as we all know Production has the latest data and i need to push to test server on request for particular ID only ( may be weekly once or twice a week )
I have a linked server setup name "LINQ"
Example for one table is below , like wise i need a script which does for 154 tables.
Insert into ABC( id, name)---insert to test server
Select Id, name from LINQ.ProdSerevrname.databasename.ABC where id = 123

What is the best way to mimic the data from production to other server?

Hi,
here we user streams and advanced replication to send the data for 90% of tables from production to another production database server. if one goes down can use another one. is there any other best option rather using the streams and replication? we are having lot of problems with streams these days they keep break and get calls.
I heard about data guard but dont know what is use of it? please advice the best way to replicate the data.

RAC, Data Guard. The first one is active-active, that is, you have two or more nodes accessing the same database on shared storage and you get both HA and load balancing. The second is active-passive (unless you're on 11.2 with Active Standby or Snapshot Standby), that is one database is primary and the other is standby, which you normally cannot query or modify, but to which you can quickly switch in case primary fails. There's also Logical Standby - it's based on Streams and generally looks like what you seem to be using now (sort of.) But it definitely has issues. You can also take a look at GoldenGate or SharePlex.

How to migrate Planning from Production to Disaster-Recovery server?

We are using Planning 11.1.1.3 Oracle repository. Presently our DR Planning Application name is different than production's name, and the DR's Windows server names are different from Production's. Otherwise, all other configuration the same.
How do we migrate Planning from Production to Disaster-Recovery server? We stopped Planning on DR server. Then we exported production planning Oracle repository and imported it to DR Planning. We restarted DR's Planning. DR planning seems to be running fine, but I am afraid to click "Refresh Planning" on DR Planning - it might update Production server. So how can I be sure DR and Production planning are disconnected ?
Is there anything we need to do? This method seems to be faster than migrating with LCM.

You are definitely go about it the correct way, if you are migrating the whole planning application I have to agree it is a safer and quicker route.
The connection information to essbase is stored in the planning system database/schema so as long as you have not migrated that then you should be good to refresh.
To put your mind at rest, log into the planning application and edit the datasource associated with the application then you will see where the essbase server is it is going to refresh.

Replication of Project Server 2010 databases from Production to Development

We have One Production, One Development and One QA server but the Production data is not matching with the Dev and QA.
Now our client is asking is there any possibility that we can copy the production data bases and replicate in the Dev and QA.
Is there any auto sync method where the production data updates will be updated in Dev and QA automatically.
Our environment is Project Server 2010 4 PWA data bases and 1 config data base and 1 config data base for project sites.
Please suggest a best possible way to solve this issue as i thought to take the the PWA back up frm central admin along with the 4 db back up from pwa--- 6 db back up from sql server---- restore all of them in the Dev and QA---i don't think it is the right
approach.

As per your First post you only want to update the data of DB on regular basis.
Now you are talking about back up restore Please be clear what you want .
If you have all the configuration ready on qa and dev then only replication need to be done.
can i use the replication mechanism for all the 5 databases in PS 2010 at time won't be a problem right

As you can see its performed by storage team contact wiht your vendor.

Setup test from production

I want to setup a test database from production rman copy. I have an rman level 0 backup with no catalog. I looked at the duplicate rman command, but that requires to have a dblink to the prod system. I dont' have that and can't.
Given that I do I create a test database with a different db name from the production rman level 0 copy?
Please suggest.

Thanks but the doc has the following assumptions.
1. db name is same on the restored host.(But I want to have db name test and should be the copy of db prod)
How do I restore to a different name than the source db name and also without the db link connection?

You can get the time stamp( when it was deleted) from table RSRDELREPORTS. Based on that time check with basis guys to get the more info.

Clonning of the EPM Suit from Production to Training Server.

Quick one -
Some xwz Company has already Implemented EPM Suit 11.1.2.1 , HFM,HPM,Essbase modules.
They are having the Production and Test Enviroment of the Hyperion running smoothly.
Now we have been given the contract to do the training where client wants us to take the clone of the
Existing EPM Suit ( Hyperion HFM, HPM , Essbase) and give us the training.
I would like to know whether is there any process where we can do the Clonning of the Oracle EPM Suit
11.1.2.1 from production to Test Server. ?
Currently they are Using
Windows Server 2008 R2 - HFM HPM Essbase
Windows Server 2003 - FDQM
SUN SPARC 64 bit for the Oraacle Database.

Mass Copy directory contents and permissions from production to test server

am using SUNOS5.8.
I found out there is a discrepency between the production and test environments.
The discrepency is only with folder and subfolders contained in /admin/bin/myfolder.
The production environment is more up to date and the test environment is lagging behind.
I want to make both the environments same, as they should be.
Is there a single command in Unix that will overwrite existing folders/files in test server and copy everything including permissions starting from /admin/bin/myfolder from production server to test server?
Please also give examples of how to user the command?

I have come to know there are various tools available:
rsh
rcp
rdist
rsync
scp
sftp
ftp
ftp is a very tedious tool to copy all directory contents one by one.
cd DirA
mv * /path/to/DirB
This method is also not a very preferable one.

Production order number range after taking the back up from production serv

Dear all,
My client did a back up activity yesterday from production server to disaster recovery server.
After completing this activity they shut down there production server to do the testing of this new server.
Production guy converted the planned order to production order and he got a number say 2000064732, but the current number in number range is 2000080139.
But same guy created order one day before in production server that time the order number in 2000080138.
After 2 hours the system (by that time he has create more than 50 orders) started assigning the number as per the current number. Ex: 2000080140,141,142u2026
As per my observation they have maintained buffer as 20. As per buffering logic system has to skip in forward direction not in reverse direction.
But in our case the system skipped in back word that nearly 16000.
So please help me to find out the reason why the system assigned those number and on what basis.

See SAP note 62077, your application server was shut down, the numbers that are left in the buffer (that is, that are not yet assigned) are lost. As a result, there are gaps in the number assignment.
