Draft messages not in draft box...

Hi all,
Greetings from northwest Spain.
Some strange goings-on with mail recently... draft messages are showing up in the Draft box in terms of a bold number, but clicking on the box they aren't there. Are they saved? Aren't they? How can I restore seeing them in the actual Draft box?
Thanks in advance for all help.

You're welcome.
In that case, this should be an easy fix. If your OS detail provided is accurate - 10.3.9, using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this POP account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account).
Within a POP account named folder with Jaguar or Panther Mail should be mailboxes (mbox files) with an .mbox extension, a MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded file and no folders.
Confirm there is a Drafts.mbox file and not a Drafts named folder. If a folder, quit Mail first and change the name of this folder to Drafts.mbox or add the .mbox extension.
Launch Mail and this should resolve the problem.

    Hi AK
I must admit to being new to Macs but have in the past few weeks taken delivery of a MacBook Pro 2.0....exciting times.
With this in mind I have not played around with any settings, all is as standard, as far as I know.
I sent a message on Saturday and it is still in my sent box, as it was straight away. Four messages have been sent since, one was a repeat of the first, sent because of the missing message in the Sent Box. The other two were tests. The two tests arrived immediately and later I got a reply from the person I had originally emailed. But still no message in Sent Box other than saturday's

  • [Lion: Mail] Draft Messages Not Removed After Sending?

    Hi all,
Upgraded to Lion last night on my laptop and have been loving it so far. Some strange quirks though; among them is a behaviour in Mail I'm hoping I can get rid of.
When writing a message, it will save a draft of it (good thing!) while I'm working on it, but then when I have finished and sent the email, rather than delete the now obsolete draft like every other mail program I've ever used does, it remains in the Drafts folder and I have to go and delete it manually to get rid of it. Why is this?
Any way to get it to just delete drafts once the message has been sent? Is this just the way Mail does things (I only started using it now in Lion, couldn't stand it before)? I looked through the preferences and didn't seem to find anything.
    Thanks!

    I just noticed this:
    1) Horizontally divide the "Drafts" window so can see titles, and below, the msgs.
    2) In the "To" column, click on one of the undeletable msgs;
    3) The full msg will show up under the bar (the bar with the small dot in the middle).
    4) Move the mouse over the heading of the msg ("From":, for example).
    5) A set of four gray icons will appear on the line between heading and body.
    6) One of those gray icons is a trash bin.
    7) Click that bin and the message will be deleted.
That's ok - keeps user from having to move the mouse up to the top of the window to click the trash bin (if it worked, and it does not). So Apple needs to fix this problem. And, I really liked having a red "delete" symbol that could be dragged into the toolbar (that's optional, of course -- just get the main delete icon working first.)

  • Draft Messages Not Saving Attachments

If I save a message with more than one attachment as a draft, when I go to reopen it, it will only have one attachment.
Oddly, it will show all the attachments in the preview pane, but when I actually open the message to finish and send it, only the first attachment is still there.
I'm using a POP account in Mail 2.1 on an iBook G4 running Tiger.
    I've tried:
    - trashing the Drafts folder in the user library.
    - running all MacJanitor maintanence tasks
    - repairing permissions
Nothing seems to have worked. Any suggestions?

    Add-on to previous mail
Just to add the full data from my testing. I've tried to test the different permutations of using the Attach functionality vs using drag-and-drop, of adding text or not in the email, and of adding 1 or more attachments.
    I'm getting the following results
Attach - 1 file - No text = No issue
    Attach - 2 files - No text = 2nd file disappears
Attach - 1 file - With text = text and file both disappear
Attach - 2 files - With text = text and 2nd file disappear
Repeating these 4 scenarios using drag-and-drop instead of Attach, no problems occur.
    I'm using Mail 2.1.1 under OSX 10.4.9
Any similar experiences, or even better, help on fixing this, would be really welcomed!

  • Sent messages not appearing/sent box

I too am finding at times and it seems to be when the message doesn't go out immediately, that it think it goes but doesn't appear in the SENT box although some do receive the message.
I really don't want to BCC myself in everything I send.
Mac mail has given me more problems since July/12 than Outlook did in 10 years.

    Hi Bronco_6
What do you mean by .Mac Mail? If you mean using a web browser to access your mail, then by default it does not save items in your Sent Messages folder. This is a Mailbox Behaviour preference that you can set by clicking on the Preferences text at the top right of the web page.
If you are talking about using a .Mac mail account in the Mail application on OS X then that's of course a different issue. It should work by default.
You may mean a combination of both. It took me a while to spot that messages sent via the Web page didn't end up in the Sent folder within Mail.app. Instead they appear in Sent Messages under the .Mac folder.
    Hope That Helps.

  • Cannot delete messages from the Drafts folder in Mail.

I am running Mail 2.1.3. For some reason I am no longer able to delete draft messages from my Drafts folder. It is by no means a serious problem, just annoying! Can anyone figure this out? Thanks.

Hi Dubaiman, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm having trouble finding exactly where that is stored, but maybe move these to the Desktop in case we want to put them back, quit Mail first...

  • Draft Message multiple attachments not displayed or sending

When creating a draft message with mutiple attachments, they are displayed in the preview window but opening the message only displays a single attachment. • Edit as new not working with draft messages?

Occasionally I want to send two similar messages at the same time. I write one message and save it as a draft - usually at this stage without any addresses specified.
I visit the Drafts folder and use Edit as New to open the draft message as what I expect to be a new message, and then make the changes necessary (including a modified subject) to create the second similar message. I then save the second message as a draft.
When I return to the Drafts folder, the second message has overwritten the first. Edit as New does not appear to work correctly in the Drafts folder ......
I can create two similar drafts by starting a completely new message (with Write), and then manually copying the subject & contents of the original draft. However this is a cumbersome process .....
Please can Mozilla be modified so that Edit as New allows multiple draft messages to be created correctly?

Thanks for your feedback. I've looked at the bug report you identified and added my vote to the system.
I have previously tried using Templates for this issue. However, my messages are usually sent to a mailing list. I have found in the past that the mailing list is expanded when the message is sent, and my templates contained the expanded list (which meant that any addresses subsequently added to the mailing list were ignored).
I don't think I've actually tried creating the template without any addresses, even though this is how I currently work with my drafts. I'll do some more experimenting - it might provide a neat solution to several related problems.
    Thanks again for your help.

See if this helps .... Reset the iPad.

  • What can I do to fix Mail software, which does not allow me to move messages around, save "drafts", receive or send messages?

My "Mail" software looks to have become corrupted, as I can't move messages around, save "drafts", receive or send messages.  The problem occurred after my Mac crashed and was re-started. Any ideas on what can I do to fix this? Any good suggestions appreciated!

The Mail program is probably not what is corrupted. That would be extremely difficult because it is not written back to disk. The problem is likely in your user data.
You could check that by logging into a different account (make one if you don't) and set up Mail in that account. If it works fine in that account then you have a problem in your user data.
To reinstall Mail, you'll have to get out your Snow Leopard install DVD and check if it is part of the Optional Installs. If it is not, you could use a program called Pacifist to extract the Mail installer. You'd then have to install the 10.6.7 combo Update to bring Mail up to current version.
What are the permissions on your Mail folder? Post output of this command you run in Terminal (just copy and paste):
    ls -ale ~/Library/Mail
ls is List. -a tells it to show hidden files/folder. l tells it to make a list with details. e tells it to list Access Control List entries.

  • HT1338 I have a Leopard desktop 10.5.8 and I have trouble with MAIL. My draft folder does not work and my draft messages will not delete.        delete

I have a Leopard desktop 10.5.8 and I have trouble with my Email Apple MAIL draft folder. First of all after I typed my draft and sent to draft, the folder would not open at a later date to send. In all I have 10 messages, mainly test which I cannot delete from my Draft folder.
My draft system is now working but I cannot get rid of the  10 messages which sit in my INBOX and DRAFT folders.
These messages appear in Application - Mail but they will not go.
How do I delete, or is it best to use My Disc 1# and delete all my software and replace with the Disc in order to have a new MAIL program?
    Any advice would be welcome.

    HI,
Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup),  it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
    Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

  • Gmail saves Draft messages in Trash

It seems that I when I set up my gmail account in Mail gmail wants to move old copies of a draft message to the trash as opposed to deleting it permanently or just over writing it. Is there any solution to this?

It seems that if I set Mail to not save draft messages on the server my gmail draft box appears again in my mailbox sidebar, whereas it was not visible before. Selecting this mailbox (the draft box in gmail) to be used to store draft messages allows messages to be saved on the server without them being moved to the trash every time a copy of a draft is overwritten.
    You just have to
    1. Deselect "Store Draft Messages on The Server" in options
    2. Select "Drafts" under "Use This Mailbox For:" in mailboxes, when the draft folder reappears under gmail.
It seems that other people had posted on this problem in the forum without actually receiving a solution...

  • Mail problems in Lion-drafts, message indicator

I have encountered the following problems regularly since switching to lion:
    1.  Message indicator in dock does not display count of unread messages
    2.  Drafts, once saved, cannot be edited.
    3.  Multiple drafts of sent messages remain in the draft mailbox.
I've tried resetting some of the preferences, such as unchecking the box to keep drafts on the server, with no success.  I have also rebuilt the mailboxes.  I have repaired permissions.

I was able to resolve most of my Mail problems after I zapped the pram. Mail was frozen and I couldn't force quit it.  Now I can edit the drafts, and my unread message counter is working again.

  • I have a message in my draft folder which causes mail to quit. I cannot delete it?

I have a message in my draft folder which shuts down the mail program. I am unable to delete it.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Mail Messages Going To Drafts Folder

Almost every mail message I compose - both new messages and replies - are showing up in the Drafts folder.  These seem to be identical to messages after they are sent and appearing in the Sent folder.  I'm not saving them at any time, so why would these messages go to "Drafts"?
    Thanks,
    JD

While indeed unchecking this option stops the behavior, it's not the best of solutions.  The options to save drafts on server is available with any decent IMAP program, and generally is very beneficial.  Say I start a message on my Mac, and then have to leave before it's done.  If it's saved to the server, I can then pick this message up later on my iPhone or iPad and complete it and send it.  Or I can start it on an iOS device, have it save to the server from there, and then pick it up on my Mac later to complete.
So, the functionality of "Save drafts on server" is widely known amongst IMAP clients, and it would be nice if Apple Mail would simply replace a previous draft of a particular message with the latest version rather than piling up multiple versions of the email.  Also, it's customary that when you eventually send the message, the drafts also disappear.
It would also help if there was a way to increase the auto-save time to a longer setting so that they don't pile up so fast.
