Drag an image to the desktop saves as a bmp file

dragging an image from a webpage to Windows Explorer or compliant program (xplorer2 or Zoner, or FastStone Image or desktop etc) saves as a .bmp file (mostly!). Invariably *.bmp files are large files and since the original format would be jpg or png I have to convert back to these formats.

It’s the single worst feature of Firefox Mozilla.
What the point of having private browsing if this is going on.
You find the files in (user name)/appdata/local/temp
its a hidden folder. when i looked i 3gigs of bmp files
that not cool at all!! gerrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

When I try to same an image under the command 'save as' it will only let me save as file types 'firefox document' or 'all files' and when I try to look at them later they dont work. How can I save an image as the same file type it is on the web site?!

Thanks Alex, but sadly I already tried that. Neither .docx or .xlsx files show up in the content list. They both show as a Chrome HTML document so changing how Firefox addresses those doesn't help since it thinks its the same type of file. I don't think I can manually add files into the "Content Type" left side nav.

Drag and Drop to the DeskTop

Hi,
I would like to be able to drag and drop a component from my Java application
and for this component to be shown on the desk top. The idea is to have monitor
components on the desktop which are always on top but small enough so that they
do not take up as much space as when the window containing these components
are open.
I have seen an example program that does just this, it is the ICQ client. With this program
you can create an ICQ user in the application. Dragging this user onto the desktop causes that
componenr to remain on the desktop on top of all apps even twhen the program is restarted.
Cool.
Anyone know how this can be acheived in Java or via Windows API using JNI.

Look in the Applications folder to see if iPhoto is still there. If it is drag it back to the Finder Sidebar. If it is no longer in the Applications folder post back, you can also look in the Trash it might still be there.

I have an instrument, which only export image file. I want use labview to replot it and do some analysis. The image file is like attachment. Is that possible to get data from the red trace in this BMP file via labview vis?

I looks to me that 515 pixels represents 200 meters, so multiply the
x-values by 0.3885 meters/pixel to get the true x-values. I don't
have enough information to scale the y-axis.

Dragging images to the desktop copies image as .png instead of .jpg

I have nearly identical computers at home and work. Both are XP Pro, with Firefox 3.6.
When I drag an image out of a web page, onto the desktop, my home computer saves/names the image as a .jpg, but my work computer saves/names the image as .png.
I want my work computer to save/name the image as .jpg. How do I change it?

Images from my i-pad, stored in i-photo, will randomly refuse a drag and drop attempt. I can move the image to the desktop, and from there to the document (mail etc.) and it will work (display image). As I mentioned, these events are random. ....Help !

When executing a drag and drop from i-photo to a document, occasional, random, images will refuse drop onto the document. The work around is to drag the offending image to the desk top, and from there to the document.
Question: What is causing these random "rebel" images to misbehave ?

I'm suddenly not able to drag certain photos to the desktop... Why?

I've been using iPhoto '08 (currently v. 7.1.5) for a few years and never had any issues until recently. Some photos I can drag to the desktop with no problem (old photos, recent imports, edited, it doesn't seem to matter). But some photos won't drag and drop -- I get the white circle with the slash through it. I can select the same photo and choose File>Export and that works fine. At the same time that issue started, I noticed another problem. I am sometimes not able to cut a photo from one event and paste it into another. Again, it is only affecting some photos (not all), and it doesn't seem to matter if they are old, new, edited, etc. I move photos in this way a LOT so this is really driving me crazy! I'm not sure if these issues are related, but it seems like they may be since they started at the same time. Any help would be appreciated. Please type slowly and use small words -- I only know enough to be a danger to my Mac. Thanks!

Not long after I posted my question, my hard drive completely failed. Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to try out your suggestion. Since I wasn't using Time Machine, it has taken my until just this month to get all my photos back into iPhoto. There were a few issues getting things back to normal (as far as recreating events and such), but so far I haven't had any problems with dragging photos where I want them. Not sure if it was the hard drive causing the issue to begin with or not. Either way, thanks for the info. If the problem comes back I will definitely give that a try.

Can i drag a clip from the desktop directly into the timeline without importing it

maybe I've been blind to this option before on 10.1.1
simply dragging from the desktop or its source a clip to the story/ timeline itself not having to use file> import media
which is a lot of steps IMHO
i notice when i do it also enters the library above where clips are seen and read to be dragged on the story line

By dragging it into the timeline you're importing it based on your import preferences. Great for single clips.

Placing an image from the Desktop causes Photoshop to crash

i am running CS3 on a MacBook Pro purchased 1 year ago. i cannot place an image from a folder on the Desktop without Photoshop immediately crashing. (i think i have experienced this with InDesign and Illustrator as well, but have not documented it.) is there any help for my situation? thank you.

Assuming you are using iPhoto....
You want to select the event that has the photo in it then click once on the photo so it is highlighted with a yellow ring around it and then click and drag it to the desktop.
If you are finding it difficult to move the file that way you can select the picture in iPhoto and select
File > Export (Command + Shift + E) and select how you want to export it (format) and where you want to put it .

As someone suggests, and I also agree with him, it would be a driver problem. My graphic card is "ATI Radeon X1950 Pro" and I'm using the "xf86-video-ati 6.12.2-2" driver. I know that there are other possibilities according to this wiki:

I already tested them with KDE4.2 and xf86-video-ati provided the best result for me.
Someone with an ATI card has the same problem? Which driver would you suggest to me?

fixed all my problems. Probably you've heard about it Now, I don't have any rendering problem and I have enabled the Desktop effects. I tested it with and without the xorg.conf file. Both of them worked, but without the file I don't have my keyboard in Spanish.
I read that it was possible the KMS support. I tested it by changing from graphical to text mode but it takes some time so I guess that it's not enabled. Is there any way to test KMS?
Is it possible to upgrade the AUR driver to the official repository? Meanwhile, I will comment my problem in the KDE site.

There was a change in my desktop drag and drop post Lion update! Cannot drag or download to the desktop per se. It has to go into the desktop window in the finder now?

It is odd: pre update (the latest) I could download to my literal desktop, or drag and drop a photo from iPhoto, an mp3 to mail later from iTunes.....Now I can only do that from within the finder in the "desktop" window. In other words: If I download (I prefer to download onto my desktop rather than the download folder-window. I want to have control over ny desktop again (rather than the folder-window entitled "desktop"....Gratefully, Dennis

Rereading this question which I wrote after a long night makes me dizzy....But I don't know how to express it differently...I have lost my contol of the desktop you see on my iMac screen with all desktop responsibilities now only available via the finder window entitled "desktop".
