Drag and drop into iTunes

I used to be able to drag and drop a mp3 file from mail directly to iTunes. Not anymore. How can i save these music files to iTunes now?
When I use the Lion save feature it takes so many more clicks and I'm not sure how to set up the folders so that it will be like the other folders in my itunes library.

The new iTunes update to 9.2 may be necessary for iPhone 4 to work but they missed a whole bunch of things. For example when I drag a track from my iTunes window to the desktop I used to see the file on the desktop with the artwork as the file's icon - now when I drag it the artwork is no longer included in the thumbnail nor when I hit the space bar to preview the track - something I used a lot when I do my job reviewing music - sometimes 200 track per week so it has ruined my process of working with music files in large quantites.
Also - I always found that iTunes never correctly embeds the text info for each track into CDs whenever I used the program to burn CDs. Often when I am DJing in a club the text info would not show on the CD player screen. I found that Toast would do this perfectly everytime regardless of what model CD player I was working with. So I would grab aplaylist from iTunes and drop it into the Toast window and simply hit burn. NOW in 9.2 I can no longer select an entire playlist and drag it to Toast. I have to drag all the files out of iTunes, into a folder then reassemble the playlist track by track in Toast - this takes 10 times longer or more.
APPLE by forcing these things upon us you are turning into MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why cant I drag and drop into playlists

I used to be able to drop and drag inrto playlists. Now I get a message which says press + button to add, but there seems no way of doing it. I'm using windows 7

Apple Support Communities updatesI’ve tried the control-I route and then tried to locate the file without success. What I get as a file location starts with //localhost/C:/Users. It may also be useful to know that most/all the missing files seem to have been copied from CDs. I can’t be sure if it’s all because the whole music file has nearly 9000 entries! The ones that still seem to work were copied from an external hard drive.

why cant I drag and drop into playlists
The "missing file" error happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, one of its parent folders, or the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place. (In the case of a library moved from one system to another there are also potential permissions issues. See Repair security permissions for iTunes for Windows if this might apply.)
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to Get Info, then click No when asked to try to locate the track. (Due to a bug in iTunes 12 you currently have to say No twice!) Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, a folder renamed, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions. If the difference between the two paths is an additional Music folder in one path then this is a layout issue. I can explain further if that is the case.
In some cases iTunes may be able to repair itself if you go through the same steps with Get Info but this time click Locate and browse to the lost track. It may then offer to attempt to automatically fix other broken links. Although it says something like "use the same location" it expects to find the tracks in the same artist & album layout that it generates, not all in one big folder.
If another application like Windows Media Player has moved/renamed the files then the chances are that subtle differences in naming strategies will make it hard to restore the media to the precise path that iTunes is expecting. In such cases, as long as the missing files can be found somewhere, you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes. See this post for an explanation of how it works.

  • Can't drag and drop into Folder

Greetings... i have been happily going along using iPhoto (6) on a fairly basic level making folders and dragging and dropping but suddenly its changed, i can now only drag and drop into albums.
I will create a folder but can't move anything into it.
This seemed to happen after iPhoto asked would i like things sorted to make it work better , i can't remember the exact wording,i clicked yes and at some point realised my folders had changed to albums into which i can drag and drop but use of folders is now denied.
I would like to know what is going on and why i can no longer do such a simple thing as move photos into a folder.
I have tried using different names for folders from the albums so there wouldn't be confusion but nothing has worked.

Thank you for this answer. I don't have an adequate explanation for why i couldn't remember how things operated on iPhoto. I had been using it successfully for some time but then didn't go into it for a few weeks and obviously had forgotten what i seemed to know earlier on. I created new folders and from there found it didn't work and was puzzled. Thought i had used folders before but i couldn't have or had overcome the problem by myself at that time.

  • Can I make layers default to the top when I drag and drop into a new folder?

Can I make layers default to the top when I drag and drop into a new layer folder instead of the bottom? It annoys me that they always go to the bottom and I inevitably always need them at the top.
    Thanks

    Hi there
ok so PS CS6 if I grab a layer in Group A (yes layer sets sorry) and drop it into Group B, itll put it under anything thats already in Group B, which annoys me! Is there a way of telling PS to default anything dragged from one group to another to default the newly added layers to the top

  • Can't drag and drop to iTunes any more.

I can't drag and drop to iTunes any more, like I have done for years.  Files are correct for iTunes.  HD's have plenty of space.  What's wrong???

I logged in here for the first time in 4 years just to say THANK YOU!  This problem happened after my update to iTunes 12.01.  So puzzling!  Your fix worked.
    Much obliged.

  • Premiere Pro CS3: Can't drag and drop into project window

I had been using PP CS3 with Windows 7 64-bit RC successfully for about half a year. Recently I did a clean install of the final, released version of Win 7, and now I cannot drag and drop into the project window.
I am sure I used to be able to do this. Having to import every clip, instead of just dragging it from Bridge (CS4), is a major headache. Ok, a minor one. But is there anything I can do to regain this capability?
    Thanks,
    Ken

Can I mark my own post as a "correct answer"?
I just discovered the problem isn't PP CS3 at all.
The problem is Bridge CS4. Or, more accurately, how I am running it.
In order to do drag and drop from Bridge, it needs to be executed in "Run as administrator" mode.
So, fantastic! There is an quick, easy solution that works.

  • Are there any events to script a component when dragged and dropped into the parsys area?

are there any events to script a component when dragged and dropped into the parsys area?

The cq:listeners node of a component's cq:EditConfig has a number of events that fire with relation to the edit mode drag'n'drop stuff. You would probably want to hook one or more of the insert ones (beforeinsert, beforechildinsert, afterinsert, afterchildinsert).

  • Can no longer drag and drop into my iPhone after iOS 7.0.3.

I'm not entirely sure what is up with this but it's excruciatingly frustrating.
I updated my iPhone 4S 64GB to iOS 7.0.3 the other day. When I plugged it into my car to play some music I noticed that most of the songs in my playlists showed up as being on the phone but they would be skipped over until the music app came to a song that was purchased in Itunes on the phone.
So, I plugged the phone into my PC thinking that it needed to be synced. I then noticed that all the songs on my phone have dotted grey circles beside them.
I deleted all the music off the phone and attempted to drag and drop files from my library back into the phone. As I already have 'Manage Music' checked, this normally resulted in the songs effortlessly being hurled through cyberspace or via a cord to my iPhone.
Now, however, all my songs that I attempt to place on my phone show up as greyed-out with Mr. Dotted Circle beside them.
What the gee-golly-willikers is this all about?

Have you checked the manually manage music box?

  • Can't Drag and Drop in iTunes 10!

This was driving me crazy! You can't move tracks within a playlist or drag and drop content from iTunes to your iPod.
I hope that Apple will fix this soon! Until Apple fixes this, your best bet is to download iTunes 9. I did, and all my drag
    and drop functionality is back.
    Downloaded it here: iTunes9.dmg

I'm having the same problem, I can't drag and drop anything to or from anywhere in iTunes.
I've also found a workaround.  It's a PITA, and a kludge, but it works every time.  The problem is, it only works for one item or multiple items in a single folder at a time.
if you right click on the song, and select "Show in Finder", you can drag the raw file from the finder window into your ipod/ipad and into playlists.

  • Can't drag and drop in iTunes

    What's going on with iTunes (10.4 (80))?
I can't drag and drop my songs, re-order my playlists or anything?? I can import a song into a playlist, but it just appears as the last item in the list, I can't place it where I want.
I've checked other complaints here, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer: is this a bug? Is it going to be fixed soon? If not, can I downgrade to a previous version?

I am having a similar problem. For some time I have had sudden loss of drag and drop so that I cannot even move a song around in a playlist, much less to another list. The only thing that stops the is a full system reboot. I have been waiting for a fix however version 10 is much worse. I am having this fail almost every day. I am running an internet radio show from my computer and use iTunes to set up playlists. When I have this problem happen, I have to kick my listeners off and reboot. This is NOT an acceptable situation. I am running iTunes 10.01 on a 2.8 GHz Core i7 iMac with 8 GB of onboard memory. This problem has been happening since at least version 9, however.
Somebody at Apple please fix this! Or tell me a workaround that does not involve me closing all other programs There is no excuse for this problem continuing.

  • Drag and drop in iTunes

Drag and drop is seriously broken in iTunes an has made managing songs an exercise in futility.

The problem occurs intermittently now that I think about it when I try to rearrange the order of songs that are already on the shuffle. I will highlight an album using the shift key and holding down the left click (The Mouse, MacMice). After a second if it works all songs can be dragged to wherever I want. But the problem is while still keeping the left click of the mouse held down, only one song will be dragged, thus getting the songs out of intended order. Then after using get info to find proper album order, drag and drop messes up again and again so you have a confounded mess. Anyway I didn't want to get into specifics here because I feel that flaming is just around the corner. I just wanted to voice my displeasure about drag and drop not working properly. Thanks, mp

  • No drag and drop from iTunes to Toast anymore

    Hello
I love to create compilations for my friends using the crossfade tool within Toast10. Now apple prevents dragging titels directly into Toast since iTunes 8 or 9. You have to copy them on the desktop first, which is great because you have to keep them there if you want to save your compilation in Toast.
Why is apple always doing such anoying things? Didn't they come up with that drag and drop idea. Now the spoil it. Does anybody know why they do this? Is there any other method to drag them into Toast? Do I now have to create two libraries – one for iTunes and one for Toast? This is absolutely stupid and needless. Absurd!
    Regards from Hamburg, Germany

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
This of course presumes it's Apple's problem to correct, and not a design change with Toast. Meanwhile, Toast (at least Toast 10) provides the Media Browser with which to select from your iTunes library.
I also presume that you're only giving your friends tracks that are in the public domain or of which they already own legal copies, yes?

  • Drag and drop from itune store to a library playlist

opened into itunes for the first time since updating to 9.0.1 and found that I cannot drag and drop (unpurchased) songs from the store to library playlists. is there a solution to this beyond downgrading to previous version? thanks

I think you just use setDragEnabled(true) on both tables.
If not, then maybe this link will help:

  • My mp4 movie files used to transfer from computer to iPad but now they will not Tried dragging and dropping to iTunes library but won't work anymore Plse help

I have mp4 movie files that i am trying to transfer to my ipad and it will no longer work.  They will not copy to my iTunes library. I used to be able to transfer/drag and drop converted movies to my iTunes are the mp4 files maybe too big Although I have plenty of space

    Howdy Anastasia,
I was thinking about why the songs arent importing and I feel that its either, A) the format of the files has changed since you last imported them, or B) you may need to rebuild the iTunes library.
Here is an article about doing just that:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1451
    Re-creating the iTunes Library file
Note: After re-creating your library, any devices that you sync with iTunes (Apple TV, iPod, iPhone, iPad) will see your iTunes library as a new library and will completely resync. The next sync with such a device will take longer and may reset some options since your rebuilt library isn't familiar to the device.
    1. Quit iTunes.
    2. Locate your iTunes folder (this is the folder that contains the iTunes Library and iTunes Library.xml files).
    Operating System
    Default location of iTunes Folder
    Mac OS X
    /Users/[your username]/Music
    Microsoft Windows XP
    \Documents and Settings\[your username]\My Documents\My Music\
    Microsoft Windows Vista
    \Users\[your username]\Music\
    Microsoft Windows 7
    \Users\[your username]\My Music\
    3. Open your iTunes folder.
    4. Drag the "iTunes Library.xml" or "iTunes Music Library.xml" file to the Desktop. If neither is available, learn how to add files back to the Library (because the XML file is not available, playlists and other information will not be available).
    5. Drag the following file from your iTunes folder to the Trash:
    Mac OS X
    "iTunes Library" or "iTunes Library.itl"
    Microsoft Windows
    "iTunes Library.itl"
    6. Open iTunes.
Important: Do not add any content into iTunes at this point (such as by purchasing something from the iTunes Store).
    7. Choose File > Library > Import Playlist.
    8. Navigate to the "iTunes Library.xml" file on the Desktop.
    Mac users: Click Choose.
    Windows users: Click Open.
If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.

    Sterling
