Drag and drop text to Pages doc without formatting

Pages '06 allowed me to 'drag and drop' text from another application into a cell in a Pages table, without disturbing cell formatting. i.e. the text would lose all its own styles, and take on those set for the cell. This is just the same as using the Edit item 'Paste and Match Style', but avoids several intermediate steps. This doesn't work in Pages '08, so my question is:
Is there a modifier key or some other way of setting Pages '08 to work the old way?
I would also like to do the same thing into main body text, but even Pages '06 wouldn't do that -- not for me, anyway. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

What you can do is right-click on your selected text, choose "Copy" from the contextual menu, then go to the app where you want to paste the text and right-click again, choosing "Paste and Match Style" from that contextual menu.......no keyboarding involved, no modifier keys.

Can`t drag and drop foto into pages document, it bounces back

trying to drag and drop a foto from iphoteo to pages document, it doesn`t work properly and steady.
Eventually it bounces back. I repeated to do so few times, sometimes it works into an blank page or into a fotoframe, sometimes it doesn`t.
I checked camera type and other informations of the pictures,seems to be not part of the problem.
I can drag and drop fotos to the desktop without problems, all jpg.
I did drag and drop a few pictures succsesfully onto the same document or into the same fotoframe and suddenly, again it does not work.

Try making a direct shortcut to the Organizer and then the Editor.
You should then be able to drag and drop on to the desktop icon.
On Windows right click on the desktop and select New >> Shortcut
Browse to Computer OS C:
And find the PSE Organizer application in Program Files or Program Files (x86) on Windows 7 - 64 bit.
Inside the Adobe >> Photoshop Elements Organizer (yellow folder) you are looking for an application file “PhotoshopEementsOrganizer” with six small icons (e.g. representing thumbnails - could be different in PSE5 but look for the exe file)
Select it and click OK
Click next
Rename by taking out Photoshop Elements leaving just the word Organizer
Then click finish
You should now be able to launch directly form the desktop by double clicking on the icon.
You can set up a similar direct link to the Editor application.

If I select the text layer and click the text style button in the library it just creates a new text style for Myriad Pro 12pt - I'm not using that anywhere in my document.
Can anyone help? Seems like a bug to me as I'm trying what the video tutorials are saying.

Do you realize it is an object-based vector-based program? Do you know the difference between raster-based and vector-based content?
My question seems to be all over the forum but no one has been able to answer other than exporting to these file formats, which make text look awful and of no use....
And yet everyone else in the world makes proper web images every day using a plethora of programs, including these...go figure.

Hello, cocteau! What you're calling "transparency" is inherent to object-based vector artwork. But web browsers don't support object-based vector artwork, except via file formats like Flash and SVG, or by viewing as a PDF in a plug-in version of Reader. Raster imaging in general only supports "transparency" by either indexing a specific color (i.e.; "don't display this color", as in GIF) or including an alpha channel (i.e.; "blend all the pixels with existing pixels, based on values from this extra channel", as in PNG). It's all in the raster file format you use, cocteau; it has little-to-nothing to do specifically with Adobe software. Such things are among the most basic matters understood by someone doing web design.
When I export an eps from .ai file, and open the eps in photoshop,...I save as a gif for the web, it goes back to the original problem...creates jagged text. I"m giving up on this garbage...Thanks a lot adobe! Lower the price of this software if this is all that can be done.
Once it leaves Photoshop (or Illustrator, or whatever) as a non-proprietary raster image format, it's all about what the format can do re "transparency". You can do this stuff with most any graphics program. You should read about basic web design and the differences between raster and vector content, rather than rant.

Drag and Drop Text in FrameMaker 10

I just installed TCS 3 with Frame 10. Prior to this release I could triple-click a paragraph and select the following (or previous) paragraphs by dragging the mouse. Now in Frame 10 after I triple-click, Frame thinks that I want to drag and drop text rather than simply selecting text. It only selects the one word on which the mouse cursor rests and insists on prompting me to drag the text somewhere. If I triple-click and release the mouse button, then the whole para is selected, but I cannot select any more text because I have already released the mouse.
How do I turn off the drag and drop text feature? I'm finding this "enhancement" frustrating at best.

AFAIK, the drag'n drop facility is hardwired into the code, so you can't change the behaviour. However, if you've made a paragraph selection using a triple-click, you can select additiona paragraphs by holding down the shift key and single-clicking at the point that you wish your selection to extend to.

It can be fairly involved once you realize how many aspects need to be dealt with. You'll need to find a tutorial that teaches you how to use drag and drop involving targets so that when you drop something you check if it hit a valid target (textfield in your case) and then process your text into that target. You should try searching Google using terms like "AS3 drag drop tutorial" and "AS3 dropTarget tutorial"   Here's a link from the latter of the two that has links to tutorials that might help.

Upgraded to Adabe 10.1x reader and drag and drop text problems

I cannot drag and drop text from my saved PDF files to word files or for example, into online forms since upgrading to Adobe new reader version today. How can this problem be resolved?

So after a month of trying to figure all this out I FINALLY fixed the problem!
Before you do anything just go to your destop > right click personalize (this is for windows 7 - might be different for XP; I honestly forgot, but same idea) > find "window color" > select "advance appearance settings
(I think can be found by just typing "window color and appearance" in the search from the start menu).

Drag and Drop to photo page creates links, doesn't replace placeholders

I searched the discussions for quite a while and didn't find much similar to this topic. Basically, drag and drop is no longer working on my iWeb and my photo grids will not accept pictures to replace the placeholder (sample) photos. I will try to explain the whole problem in detail.
I am a new iWeb user, and I set up a page without any problems at first. Yet when I returned in iWeb to add another photo page today, I have had a lot of trouble. I used the template Photo Page and opened the Inspector and the Media Viewer to drag photos onto the placeholder photos, as the Help pages and tutorials show. Yet when I drag the picture file from the Media Viewer into the photo grid, only a small text box appears that sets up a hyperlink to the photo file on my computer. I've tried messing with the inspector, seeing what the difference is between the placeholder photos' settings and the files I'm trying to add.
The only differences I can see are: in the Link Inspector's pane I can tell the program is at first making a hyperlink to the file instead of displaying the photo (yet disabling the hyperlink doesn't change anything); also,
In the Graphic Inspector pane that appears when I have selected a general area in the photo grid, at the top the "Style" , "Layout" and "Caption" options appear, along with a display of a sample photo style. When I click on one of the rectangles that appears with the file I am trying to drag and drop, I have only the "fill" option, which has "none" selected. Fiddling with the options does not get the photo to appear.
I can see the blue grid surrounding the placeholder photos, so the photo grid exists. I have also tried using different templates' photo pages, but they all have the same problem. I also tried creating an album in iPhoto and importing it to iWeb, but only two photos appeared out of 12.
So the main part of my problem is not that photos don't appear at all (if I try and insert them they appear on their own, completely independant of the template's style and the photo grid)., it is that they do not work with the photo grid and that drag-and-drop no longer works.
Any information that could help is greatly appreciated.

Try out the following things. These suggestions are
sort of the starting point for non-specific strange
behavior in iWeb.
1. Delete iWeb preference file at:
YourHardDrive/Users/yourname/Users/Library/Preferences
/"com.apple.iWeb.plist"
2. Delete iLife Media Browser preference file at:
YourHardDrive/Library/Preferences/"com.apple.iLifeMedi
aBrowser.plist"
3. Repair startup disk permissions using Disk
Utility
4. Reboot machine
5. Delete iWeb application (but keep a backup of the
Domain file!) and reinstall iWeb 1.0 from original
iLife'06 DVD or Recovery Disks and then update
directly to 1.1.1 via Software Update.
These are the top 5 things that seem to garner some
kind of positive results from people having similar
problems.
I am having the same problem Susan described. I've tried #1 and #2 from the above recommendations and still have the same problem of photos not opening in the photo page after dragging them from iphoto. I, too, published a site (not on .Mac, but I don't know if that matters) and now want to add a photo page. Also, the template shows six placeholders, but when I select the photo page only three appear.

Is there a way to disable drag-and-drop on the pages panel?

Hi, I'm using Indesign CS3 on Windows XP. My computer is a laptop and the problem I'm having is that when I have the pages panel open, I have sometimes drag-and-dropped pages of a document into a new order without meaning to (the laptop touch pad seems made for these butterfingers-type moves). The documents that I'm laying out are several hundred pages long, so sometimes I don't notice that I've screwed a few pages up until much later. If there is any way to just turn this feature off, that would be great. Due to the arrangement in which I usually work best (on a sofa), I would prefer not to have to attach an actual mouse to the laptop. Thank you for any help.

Drag and drop text fields

Hey. trying to drag and drop a text field. So I have created a text field, and saved it as a swf. I then load it in using xml and the loader class. When I go to pick it up, i get the error

I will try and explain what I am doing better, because I am problably doing this tottally wrong, I am just mixing a lot of code to get something together.
Basically, I have several buttons. If a button is pressed, it displays objects in a sort of holder. These objects might be images, animations etc. When these are placed in the holder, they can be dragged and dropped. If they are not dropped in the right location, they go back to their position in the holder.
So, my first two buttons work great. These just deal with images. button5, which I am working on now, is dealing with textfields. So, it should load my textfield swfs, place them in the holder, and made to be drop and draggable. Problem is, I am using the code which i used for the images, which is where I might be going wrong.
If I show you the code, maybe you could suggest a better way to do things

I used to drag and drop photos into pages. Recently updated to iPhoto 9.4.3 and now Pages doesn't recognize the photo?????

I use iWork Pages '09 to create my images. I normally drag and drop photos from iPhoto directly to Pages.
With iPhoto 9.4.3 I now get an error: " The media can't be used because you don't have access privileges or because it has no content or is corrupt". This doesn't happen with every photo from the same event and doesn't get corrected after running 'Repar Permissions'. I can Export to desktop then drag to Pages but that is stupid. What's up???

This looks like previews of some of your photos are missing or corrupted. Did you run a cleaning application, like "clean my mac" or move your iPhoto Library? Where do you store your iPhoto Library?
I'd try to repair the database or rebuild the iPhoto Library in addition to repairing permissions with the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools. Launch iPhoto with the command and options-key ⌥⌘ held down at the same time to get to the First Aid Tools.
Back up the iPhoto Library before you try rebuilding.

Someone has created an AppleScript to merge your addresses however.
Why not just use Pages '09?

Cannot load ipage drag and drop site builder page

The only thing that loads is the header. ipage help thought it was a problem with adobe flash player. Plugins manager indicated I had Shockwave player, no Adobe Flash listed. Tried downloading Adobe Flash, appeared to download and install, but did not show up in plug in manager, even after rebooting. Uninstalled Shockwave, rebooted and downloaded Adobe Flash. Shockwave player showed up again in plug in manager, not Adobe Flash. Not sure if they are now one and the same. Checked permissions for the page and allowed everything, still no help. Tried clearing the cache and cookies, no change. The page is fully functional in Explorer. Could use some help, please. Running version 9.01. Thanks

Do you mean that you want to be able to drag and drop between sections within the page, drag and drop within the same section, or drag and drop across to a different page?

How to drag and drop text from one listbox to another

I have a listbox of options(text) and would like to drag and drop each selection into a new listbox, one at a time. Then programatically highlight the selections in the new listbox as events happen.

I do not believe that kind of option is built into the listboxes, but I was able to have similiar functionalities using property nodes. I have included an example program that I put together.
The big difference is that instead of dragging, you double click on the item you want to transfer. To highlight items as you go down the list, all you need to do is set the value to that list number.

Strange drag and drop text editing behavior in Mail

Sometime when selecting text in an email and dragging it to a new part of the document COPIES the selected text to the new location rather than MOVES the original text.

No bug, no trick. You simply have to be careful so that you get it right. Select the text you want to move, then click and hold (pause slightly), and drag & drop to the new position. Simple, and it works every time if you do it rights.

Drag and drop a track or album without losing your current library

This needs addressing ASAP. Totally legal and simple to do...Surely. I have a home PC and a laptop. I have different music albums stored on either. Whats the point in having 2 copies of the same music when i carry my iphone4 where ever i go. My iphone4 is synced to my home PC, i have albums on my laptop which i would like on my iphone. I dont want to swap the entire album as i have tracks on my iphone which i want to keep but i want to drag and drop selected tracks or albums from one library to my iphone without losing what is on my phone already.
Surely if you are logged onto your account, the phone is registered to that account and you have authorised both your home pc and laptop to access your account this should be possible.
This is not rocket science. I own the music on my laptop and the music on my pc, I want to mix and match what is on my iphone4 without syncing my entire music collection. I would like to just drag and drop music straight on to my phone....NOW COPYING SELECTED TRACKS TO YOUR IPHONE. job done, unplug it and now i have a new album added to my current iphone library without updating anything else or deleting any other tracks.

It would be nice as completion takes forever when you have several hundred schema and tables. I end up having to type the first 8-10 characters, before a list is even presented, then my tables are so close in name, that the list is long.
I have toad as well, but would rather use sql developer. In toad I can drag and drop or double click to add a schema, table or field. It is way faster and convenient. Without this simple ability, SQL developer is still second rate for me.
