Drag and Drop to Desktop Export

In version 1.5, Aperture was capable of a 'drag and drop to desktop' JPEG export feature. This was very useful as it dramatically reduced the size of the file and maintained the fidelity of the image. However, Aperture 2.0 reduces the file size and dimensions. I would like the original dimensions but a reduced file size without using the Export feature. Any Suggestions?

I have a similar question. I've noticed, when I drag a photo straight out of Aperture 2 to the Desktop, the file on the desktop takes on some interesting properties. For example, the original photo in Aperture is 4000 pixels in width, but if I drag it to the desktop, the copy it makes is 2000 pixels.
Also, the dragged/copied version automatically gets an Adobe RGB (1998) ColorSync profile. I don't want it getting/using this profile, I want it using sRGB.
There doesn't seem to be any control at all over the size and ColorSync profile of the dragged/copied image.

You will need a server script to receive the XML structure
and it depends on
the server scripting language how you obtain that data. Then
you can either
populate a database or write to a static file or even email

Drag and drop to desktop icon on Windows

My Java application is bundled in a JAR (with a MAIN). On Windows (XP, Server 03+ and Windows 7) I would like to have it so the user can drag and drop files and/or folders onto the JAR's icon on the desktop and have it launch its MAIN passing in a list of java.io.File objects representing the dropped item(s).
Is this possible? Do I need to turn my JAR into an EXE and if so can someone recommend an EXE generator tool that supports this drag-n-drop functionality?

I've not ever seen another application that would do that without having the application already running, once it is running then you should be able to do a drag and drop.

Can't drag and drop on desktop and I've tried all suggestions from previous threads

Yesterday I found that I can't drag and drop any files on my desktop. I get the white circle with a line through it when I try to drag anything. I can drag off of my desktop to my HD and to the trash but I can't drag anything back.
I've read all of the previous threads about it and have tried all of the poetntail fixes including:
Creating a new user account and switching back and forth
Sleep / Wake
Relaunching Finder
Checking the Dragging option in Universal Access
Checking all of my settings in prefrences
(I don't have Air Display, Airparrot or any of the other listed problematic 3rd party programs)
I even reinstalled Lion and the problem still exists
Anybody have any other pointers, or should I head into the Genius Bar?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Back up all data now. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to its present state
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:

In IE, one can select the URL and drag it to the Windows desktop or anywhere else.
I want to implement the same functionality for my app: drag and drop a selection in the app to the desktop.
What flavors do I give the Transferable so that happens?
I wrote a test app to see what IE sends: two text/plain flavors. Almost obviously, I'm afraid to say, when I do the same from my Java app nothing happens.
And I don't seem to be able to find ANY documentation on the subject ...

Drag-and-drop to desktop brings up Finder window - DO NOT WANT

For some reason, every time I drag-and-drop an image from my browser onto my desktop, it now brings up a Finder window. Is there any way to stop this?

How to drag and drop to desktop

please see the following scenario:
- We created a report using xCelsius that is technically a Flash file (SWF)
- We included this into an iView
Is there a possibility to drag and drop it to the Windows Desktop (e.g. Pressing the left mouse button and release it on the Desktop as it works for simple images)?

Why can't Mac users, who have multiple devices, have device icons for drag and drop, on desktop rather than iCloud, iTunes, etc. ?

I want drag and drop in the form of icons on my iMac, from all my other Apple devices. I don't want to have to go through iCloud, iTunes and DropBox.

What are you other apple devices?
For an all Mac OS X set, you could write an applescript to perform the task.

I am working on a RIA using flex and am trying to implement drag and drop of different types of files into a Flex UI, I know this is possible using AIR but we are trying to do it through Flex in a browser. Trying out options with javascript and active x controls but no success till now.
I am seeking pointers to any sites that implemented this or any direction on cracking this one.

Drag and drop file to desktop bug

I have a new fusion drive 27" iMac with Thunderbolt Cinema Display.
When I drag a file, like an attachment from mail, onto the desktop it does not drop the file where the cursor indicates it will.
The same thing when dragging from the download folder or a finder window.
The file is randomly paced on the main iMac desktop in no particluar order, and you can't precisely drop a file where you want.
File can be dropped behind open windows, making them hard to find.
If the Thunderbolt display is unplugged, the issue goes away and drag and drop is precise.
This used to happen on my old iMac aswell, but i put it down to a bug with my system, however, it also happened out-of-the-box on the new fusion iMac before I installed any software or files, as I was specifically testing this - it's very annoying and disruptive to workflow.
Something with OSX doesn't like the external monitor when it comes to drag and drop to desktop.

The card reader is apparently stuck in write-locked mode. I don't generally advise do-it-yourself hardware repair, but one ASC poster managed to fix this problem. I haven't tried the fix myself and I can't offer any guidance beyond what's in that discussion. If you cause damage, don't expect your warranty to cover it. I suggest you instead make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

I cannot drag and drop for Photos in 10.10.3

I seem to be unable to drag and drop from the new Photos application in Yosemite 10.10.3. I have tried this with two different applications including Adobe's Photoshop Elements 13. It seems to work fine with other apple applications. (can drag and drop to desktop and to pages - only two I've tried)
However, it is very frustrating not to be able to drag and drop from Photos to another photo editing software. Additionally, when I try to open a file from photos while in Photoshop using the menu - Photoshop crashes. It appears I have no way to edit my photos in Photoshop if I store them in Photos...anybody else?

Photos is a brand new, completely rewritten application. Adobe (and others) have not yet added compatibility with it.
Exporting your your images to the desktop, then bringing them back into Photos, is the only way for external editing right now.

I am sorry that didn't work. The only other thing i can think of is, have you checked the setting in each user account? In system preferences, users or user accounts (sorry i am on a PC at the moment so can't remember what it is called)
I know there is a setting in there to stop users making changes to the dock, maybe this has changed and that is causing these problems?

Drag and Dropping Photographs to the desktop

We're running on a new MacBook, with leopard. - Running 7.1.1 (2008) iPhoto.
As we've always done in the past, we are able to drag individual or groups of selected photographs directly from iPhoto onto the desktop.
We've recently uploaded some new photographs into iPhoto 08, using the same camera we've had for years....
Our older photographs (1month +) are still able to be dropped onto the desktop, for use in other applications, such as photoshop.
However all of our new photographs WONT. When dragging the older photographs we receive an icon showing number of photographs and a green PLUS (ie, it copies the file, rather than moving it)\
When doing this with the newer photographs - we get a little NO ENTRY icon, and when letting go after the drag nothing happens.
We are able to export the photographs from the file menu, however, this is quite a slow process, and we would like to be able to export just by dragging and dropping.
If anyone could point us in the right direction of a solution, it would be much appreciated.

What happens when you bring up one of those problem photos in the edit window? Do you see it or some blank window, either white or gray? You can try the following:
Run iRepair on your iPhoto LIbrary package as follows:
1 - download iRepair and launch.
2 - click on the lock and enter your admin password
3 - click on the Select button and navigate to and select the iPhoto library.
5 - set the owner to your short admin name with read, write and execute privileges.
6 - set group to staff or the current group with read, write and execute privileges
7 - set others to read only
6 - click on the Apply button.
See if that will help.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Cannot drag and drop image from Safari to Desktop - drop location is unavai

Drag and drop an image from Safari 2.0.4 to the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Desktop does not save it. Console says:
"drop location is unavailable"
Control click over the image and "Save Linked File to the Desktop" works as expected.
Any hint most welcome. Thanks.

Why not simply adjust the link for the image in the Links palette? Certainly could be contained in an action, if need be for duplicating and exporting multiple images...
