Drag appointment from Mail into iCal - won't automatically go into iCloud

When I drag an appointment from Mail into iCal, it saves the event on the calendar "Home - On my Mac" even though I have told iCal to default as "Home (iCloud)" Is there any way I can get Mail to drop into iCal on my default iCloud account so iCloud (and thus iPhone etc) updates automatically?!
Thanks!

Try doing a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.
There is not a control for sleep timing so see if the reboot helps.

How do I get my incoming emails in Mail on my Imac to automatically go to Icloud?  My sent emails go there automatically but not my incoming emails.  I'm using OS X 10.8.5.

No, I'm not using the icloud email address.  I am using my email address [email protected]  Let me try to explain what I'm trying to do.  I'd like the emails that I send from and that are sent to my pacbell.net email address to also show up on icloud so if something happens to my imac which is the primary computer my emails are preserved on Icloud and I can access them there.
    Is that possible?
Note:  I have been able to move my pacbell.net emails to the icloud account manually.

Why when I open mail on my iPhone it automatically goes to iCloud instead of my mailboxes page?

Could that be the last page you were using?
For me, it seems to go back wherever it was the last time it was closed, be it the mailboxes/accounts page, an account's mailbox list, a message chain list, or an individual message. I'm not aware of a setting that affects this.

  • Multiple drag emails from Mail to a finder window and for it to name the files as the subject heading

    Hi
I have been using Mac's now for about 10 years and this is my first problem.
I have recently moved into an office that use PC's with a Windows server.
I have set up the network to transfer files and view the windows server and it  works fine.
I have a problem in that my colleagues on PC need to be able to view my emails which I send and receive using Mail. They therefore need to have logical title names and the date sent and ideally who to or from. I view them and archive them using Mail which is fine for me.
I understand about the archiving and copying of mailboxes but this gives every email the un-fathomable title name 9944847 etc.
I can get round the problem by dragging and dropping every email I send and receive individually and it will automatically give it a more logical title of the subject heading however the date is when it was dragged not when sent. This is a pain if I am away or forget to save an email for a day or two and then the date is inconsistent.
Is there a way to batch copy emails from Mail to a finder window and for it to name the files as the subject heading or to archive the files in a similar way so they retain the detailed information my colleagues require.
And no I can not get to all change to Mac and I don't really fancy using Outlook, Entourage or Parallels.
    Please help.
    Toby

Quit Mail. Force quit if necessary.
Back up all data. That means you know you can restore the Mail database, no matter what happens.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope Index
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar. Paste into the box that opens (command-V), then press return.
A Finder window will open with a file selected. Move the selected file to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Other files in the folder may have names that begin with "Envelope Index". Move those files, if any, to the Trash. Relaunch Mail. It should prompt you to re-import your messages. You may get a warning that the index is corrupt and that Mail has to quit. Click OK.
Test. If Mail now works as expected, you can delete the file you moved to the Desktop. If you get a warning that the file is in use when you try to empty the Trash, log out and log back in.

  • Photos saved from Mail to iPhoto won't display

I recently converted my niece from a PC to an new 14 inch iBook. She has 10.4.2 and all the latest software updates. When she clicks on the "Save" button in Mail her photos do not appear in iPhoto. After proving to myself this was really happening, I found the missing photos. They are being saved at the root level in the iPhoto folder-not in the respective photo folders. I suspect that this is the problem but I don't know why or how to fix it. I tried saving photos from Mail on a couple of other Macs at my house and the feature seems to work fine.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

Hi Joseph, the feature works fine for me too.
the only info I could find was this.
"Add to iPhoto" button in Mail and keyword search in spotlight don't work
If she does have the latest iPhoto, then all I can suggest is to use Disk Utility to repair permissions. If that doesn't work, then just have her drag the images in the email to the desktop, then import them into iPhoto from there.

  • Meeting requests from Mail to iCal - 10.4.6

Updating to 10.4.6 seems to have broken my ability to import into iCal meeting requests sent from Outlook to an Exchange account in Mail. In 10.4.5 I was able to command-[ and get the meeting.ics attachment which, when doubleclicked, would load the event into iCal.
Now, when I do the same thing, I get the .ics file as the attachment but the .ics is not recognized by iCal:
This calendar file is unreadable. No events have been added to you iCal calendar.
Opening it with BBEdit shows that .ics is not a vCard.
Does anyone have any clue of what is going on?

    baltwo,
That was a typo. In (2) I meant to say "Upgrade Mac OS X" rather than "Install Mac OS X" precisely for the reasons you stated for the "upgrade earlier version" install option. The "Erase and Install" option and "Archive and Install" option are just not necessary in my case. Thanks.

  • Lotus Notes (Domino) Meeting Invitations from Mail to iCal

I use an iMac at work and a MacBook Pro at home. They recently switched to a Notes-based calendar program at work, and since I don't have the Notes client installed on either machine (someone from our IT department has spent about four hours trying to install it on the iMac with no success) and the web application only works with IE 6, and there is no provision for synching the calendar with my PDA, when I heard that the e-mail meeting invitations could be imported into iCal, I was all over that.
When I opened iCal on the iMac I found that there was a "Work" calendar, and iCal's "Automatically retrieve invitations from Mail" box was checked, there were no entries in the Work calendar--or any other calendar.
When I initially looked into it, I found several threads (e.g. http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5186410) in the iCal forum about time zones not being imported correctly (I wish my problems were that minor!) from Lotus Notes meeting invitations. But these threads showed vCal messages and mentioned error dialogs. I hadn't seen any dialogs, and my meting invitations are just plain text messages like this:
    ======================
Meeting Invitation: Norman Conquest has invited you to a meeting
    Meeting Details
Subject: Let's Kill an Hour, Shall We?
    Begins: 11/26/07 9:00:00 AM
    Ends: 11/26/07 10:00:00 AM
    Location: The Bored Room

Required Invitees: Upton O'Good, Natalie Attired, Hugh Mility, Justin Case
    Optional Invitees:
To view all the details of the meeting and act on it if necessary, please

    ======================
So I just assumed I was foiled again because the messages were not in the right format.
Later I happened to open my MacBook Pro, and, much to my surprise, I found that a small number of meetings had actually found their way into iCal, and in at least one case I know of, one has actually been rescheduled! I could hardly contain myself.
At first I thought the small number of meetings was simply due to the fact that I receive most of my work e-mail at work, on the iMac, so only those meeting invitations that I happened to open for the first time on my MacBook Pro had been imported. However, this turned out not to be the case, as I have observed many cases in which I have received new, unread meeting invitations on my MacBook Pro which have not been entered in iCal.
But what's really got me is that this whole process is so inaccessible! You'd think there would be preferences where you could tell Mail what kind of invitations to look for and tell iCal which calendar to put them in. But no. There's just one checkbox to turn the process on or off. You just check it and cross your fingers.
Just to deepen the mystery a little bit, I do know of one other Mac user who says his invitations are being reliably entered into iCal, and he can even reply to them. When I asked him for details he told me he just turned it on and it worked.
Is there anyone out there who can at least shed a little light on what I've observed, if not help me get this process working at least quasi-reliably? Is this process working for anybody else out there?

  • Dragging invitees from Directory to iCal event

I have OS X 10.5 installed and iCal server running. On my iCal 3.0 clients I can create an event and drag an individual from either AB or Directory to the attendees box in the event I am editing.
However, I am unable to drag the same individual from the "Directory" category in AB into the attendees box, neither am I able to drag groups from Directory or AB to the attendees box of the event. I always get the "green light" and it looks like it going to work, it does not complain or report any errors, it just doesn't do anything.
    Any suggestions welcome.

    Hi
    A. DO NOT - Move or alter anything in any folder named - iMovie Projects or iMovie Events on DeskTop/Finder AT ALL - Moving Events and Projects MUST BE DONE within the iMovie Application ! Else connections will break and this can be anything from hard to impossibly to repair.
    B. The external hard disk to harbor iMovie Projects and Events
    • MUST BE - Mac OS Extended (hfs) formatted - UNIX/DOS/FAT32/Mac OS Exchange will work for most BUT NOT FOR VIDEO - AT ALL !
    • Should be a FireWire one - as USB/USB2 performs badly to me
In iMovie - this external hard disk can be seen in Event resp. Project window and here You can move a project from one to the other and when asked let it move Events over too. This can be very good as the space needed , freed-up is mainly in Events as Project do not hold a copy of Your movie but just a text document on howto the material in Events are supposed to be played = Non-Destructive editing.

  • Dragging files from Mail and Dock to finder stopped

Since installing mavericks I have the problem that I cannot drop files from mail or the dock (downloads) to finder or the desktop. I can drag them and move them around but cannot release them to finder. Drag and drop from finder to finder works fine. When I reboot it works for a while and then stops again. This is very annoying...

    Thank you for replying BDAqua.
If I make the right or left monitor my main monitor the the files drag to the approprate place. When I switch it back to the center montior being the main monitor then the issue comes up again.
Could there be an issue with which monitor is connected to which port?
    It's just weird.
    What else can I try?
    Shawn.

  • Change to dragging attachments from Mail.app in Mavericks

It seems now Mail.app needs to be the active window when dragging attachments from an email. This means not just an extra click but often the finder window gets hidden behind Mail and this is a bit of a pain. Also there has been a change with the selection of attachments when dragging, sometimes dragging two if one is selected and you drag another.
Has anyone also found this a problem and found a work around or settings change? It is certainly slowing me down

I likewise can no longer drag attachments from a mail message to a Finder window - with Mail being frontmost or not - multiple items or a single item. I can only perform a "Save All (size) ..." from within the message - which does work fine to the same intended destination. This is on the replacement Mail.app 7.0 (build 1822).
On a related note, Maverick Mail.app seriously broke addressing groups from within the addressing lines (via text matching). I have to openthe addressing windoid, select the group manually, then select the desired recipients onthe right side and then click the addressing line desired. Very narrow UI resprictions. What did they do to Mail???
Two annoyingly unresolved issues with Mavericks Mail - quite broken from before.

  • Entering description of event into iCal, pasted too much text into event, responded with The server responded with an error. Preferences is greyed out, and window pop up comes up every time I open iCal and doesn't go away. Force quit, still opens. Help?

While pasting event description into iCal, accidently pasted too much text, causing "The server responded with an error" pop up. This pop us includes the event description, but because of the mass amount of text, the window shoots off the screen to the bottom, so if there was an exit red "x" available, it isn't visible or accessible. The iCal>preferences is greyed out and I have force quit and it pops up each time I use iCal. Is this even fixable?

  • Meeting requests not making it from Mail to iCal

I haven't been able to have meeting requests automatically transfer over to iCal.
I have my Mail settings set to automatically send meeting invites to iCal, and most invitations come from people that are present in my address book.
I've been on hold with Apple Care for over an hour, and haven't had any luck other than being asked to check the settings above.
Any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

  • Attachments from mail to iPhoto won't copy

    I'm using OSX 10.8.2 and iPhoto 11 Ver 9.4.1. (701.67) and Mail Ver 6.2
Just recently when I tried to move Mail Attachments to iPhoto, nothing happens.  I can drag and drop either individual photos or a group but when I try either add to iPhoto or save all, the iPhoto library is gray.
    Is there an easy fix?

No. It's a known bug and hopefully they'll fix it soon. In the meantime just drag the pics to the iPhoto Window or Dock icon

  • What happened to auto adding appointments from Mail to iCal?

I've just upgraded and might have missed a setting somewhere but Mail 3.6 used to auto detect possible appointments in the body text of an email and provide an mouse over option to automatically add the info (if in fact it was an invitation) to iCal. Similarly it offered this function when one mouse overed somebody's signature at the end of an email, to automatically add their info to Addressbook.
I don't have this functionality in Mail 4.
    Any ideas?
