Drag&Drop file to application

Hi all,
is possible to drag a file from filesystem and drop it to
i.e. DataGrid in Flex web application? I have seen, tah is it
possible in AIR application but I am not sure, if it is possible in
web application too.
If it is possible, what, if not, why?
THX for answers
Cheers
Petr

But in Flex SDK 4 is possible to acces to local filesystem,
i.e. FileReference has a method load for reading local filesystem
data. In older version of Flex it is impossible.

  • Unable to double-click or drag/drop files to open.

I'm running Photoshop CC 64 on a Windows 7 64 machine and am only able to open files in Photoshop by going to File->Open. Double-clicking from Explorer doesn't work and i can not drag/drop files into the open application window or taskbar icon. Right clicking on files and selecting "Open with" also doesn't work.
I checked file associations and made sure to choose CC 64. If I right click on the shortcut and choose "Run As Administrator" which I have to do in order to get files to open between Lightroom and Photoshop (both need to be Run As Administrator), I'm still unable to open from Windows Explorer. However, if I check the box to "Run this program as administrator" in the shortcut's Compatibility tab, I can double-click to open from Explorer but am prompted with a UAC warning every time. Dragging/dropping into the open app still doesn't work.
Opening between Bridge and PS works as expected so long as both programs are "Run As Administrator"
Been searching the forums here and seen suggestions of similar but not the same issue, at least not that I've found.
    Anyone else experiencing? Suggested remedies?

This is an OS permission problem.  Make sure you have ownership of the HD.  Do a web search on how to check.  External HD can be a problem for permission.

  • I can't drag/drop files!! HELP :( :(

I can't drag/drop files from one place to another, like across my desktop,i have to cut/copy paste them into another location.
It randomly change as before i could drag/ drop files, etc

OS X will move the file if you hold the command key while you drag and drop.
What happens if duplicate files are found during the move drag and drop. If you release the command key to answer the dialog box that appears, the file will be copied but not moved. If you continue to hold the command key as you click the Replace button, the move action will be completed.
To move files in Finder first press Command+C to copy the selected files, then press Command+Option+V to move the copied files to the current folder.

  • Can't drag and drop files onto Applications in Dock since upgrading to 10.6

Ever since my wife upgraded her iMac (2 GHz, 2 gigs) to 10.6, she can no longer drag and drop files onto certain applications in her dock to open the file. She has to go into the application and go to "open file" or whatever.
For example, if she has a Word doc on her desktop, she cannot drag it onto the Word icon in her dock.
    Any advice?

You have many issues with your and your wife's machine(s). Everything you've posted works here. Reinstall Snow Leopard, repair permissions, and see if that fixes things.

  • Reinstalling CS2, and dragging/dropping files does not work

I have Photoshop CS2. Or at least I
had it. I had updated my operating system to Tiger, and it just caused a bunch of files to change, nothing really bad. It gave me an error message upon opening photoshop that "files necessary for running Photoshop were missing from the Application Support folder"
So I read the advice on this FAQ:
Scott Weichert, "Double-click/Drag-&-drop Photoshop files opens application but not file or I get a message saying that some files in Application Support are missing and I have to reinstall. (Photoshop CS/CS2/CS3)" #, 29 Dec 2003 2:45 pm
And did what it said. I trashed the CS2 folder, and now when I try to re-install it my serial number won't work. Is my $400 serial number now permanently registered on a nonexistent platform?
As an active photographer and graphic artist, I need Photoshop constantly. So any advice would be greatly appreciated as soon as possible. Thank you.

The problem you got into is a known problem after updating to Tiger. It is a small 4K file that gets trashed with the update. It is called the Adobe Unit Types. Both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements need this file to function.
One way to get it back is to reinstall Photoshop, the other is to add this file again.
You can get the file from here http://www.dd.se/Tips/bildbehandling/downloads/AdobeUnitTypes.zip
It is only 3,7 KB big.
You put the file you download here:
[hard disk] /Library/ScriptingAdditions. If you don't have a Scripting Additions folder, you create it.
As you trashed Photoshop, you need to completely deinstall it to be able to reinstall it.

  • Program in Dock Not Opening 'Drag & Drop' Files

Recently my dock icon for Photoshop has stopped opening files when I drag a list of images onto it. None of my other dock Applications seem to be having this problem and still open any document or photo I drag onto it. I love the drag&drop feature and use it all the time; not having it has been quite irritating. Any ideas?

If you restored your system you may have lost this:
    "/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types"
If you do not have it you can't drag 'n drop in Photoshop. Adobe recommends a reinstall, which is insane. You just need to create the ScriptingAdditions folder in the root level Library folder and put the "Adobe Unit Types" file inside it. Note there is NO space in the folder name. As a public service I keep a copy of it here:
    http://homepage.mac.com/francines/pdfs/AdobeTypes.zip
This is from the CS1 version of Photoshop, but it should work. If not, since Adobe doesn't perform that simple service, you will need to reinstall.

  • Bridge CS5 Windows crashes when I command/move or drag/drop files internally

Bridge CS5 crashes with a Microsoft "report error" dialog whenever I drag images from one folder to another inside of Bridge, or use the right-click "Move To . . ." mouse command.  After months of successful use of the Bridge CS5, this behavior suddenly began.  Unfortunately, I can't now remember whether I did anything to my Windows environment at that time.  Bridge does not have trouble with dragging or command/moving files into Photoshop, but dragging image files (jpg) from a search screen or the Windows Explorer can also end in a crash.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 32-bit on a 4-processor machine with adequate ram and lots of hard drive/scratch drive.  I deinstalled every trace of Bridge and reinstalled the upgrade 4.0.2.1, which makes me up to date. Working with Adobe Support I also cleared and uninstalled, and then reinstalled Photoshop, Bridge, etc. to fix some other problems.
I have experimented with purging the Bridge cache for individual folders I was dragging from and to, but didn't purge all caches.  Typically, the crash appears a few seconds after dragging/moving a file - continuosly sucking-me into thinking things are at last repaired.  On occasion images are lost - i.e. really destroyed, or dropped into some limbo somewhere.
I'd be truly grateful for any ideas to try, no matter how extensive or simple.
    Thanks!

    Hi Robert,
I'm a developer from Br team. Thanks for reporting Br. problems.
It seems like a memory issue. Please try this to help us identify the root cause:
    1. Disable all startup scripts (Edit->Preferences->Startup Scripts->Disable All), then restart Br.
    2. When Br is running, kill "SwitchBoard" process in task manager.
    3. When do Copy&Move operations, don't use Drag&Drop, try to use "Move To / Copy To" menu. (A known issue of Bridge, should be fixed in later versions)
    Does the crash still happens?
    Thanks very much!

  • Can't drag & drop files into folders

So heart-attack was just adverted, however I need to figure out what's going on.
My work comp just got upgraded to Mountain Lion along with a few coworkers (who for whatever reason aren't experiencing this same issue). Basically, if I have a folder (folder 1) and inside it is some PSD's sitting loose and another folder (call it folder 2) - when I try and drag those PSDs into 'folder 2', they disapear from 'folder 1' (which is expected), but when I go to 'folder 2', the PSDs aren't there. Searching for the file name in finder came up with nothing, trying to open it from 'recently open' in Photoshop didn't do anything. Eventually I found the missing files on my desktop (not sure why it didn't show up in the Finder search). Did a test and sure enough, every time I try to drag and drop files into a folder (regardless what folder it is), everything gets dumped on my desktop.
    Help?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • I lost the ability to drag & drop files from the finder to dreamweaver

I recently upgraded to OSX Maverick and I lost the ability to drag and drop files to dreamweaver.
Is there a setting that I am unaware that restores this functionality?

  • Can I just drag/drop files to the TC to back them up ?

As it appears to be 'just' a hard drive, can I simply drag/drop any files I want to back up immediately, onto the TC and they will copy across ?
Will this not affect the backup images ?

Yes. The Time Capsule is indeed just a disk being served across the network with no special purpose. It is not dedicated to Time Machine (though that's probably what most people buy & use it for and it's certainly marketed for that purpose).
If you were doing Time Machine backups to a local disk (e.g. Firewire or USB connected external drive) then you'd you'd see a folder for your computers backups with loads of folders inside named for the date & time of that backup. Those are all maintained by Time Machine. You can drop a file anywhere else in the drive (don't drop it inside the folders that Time Machine maintains).
When using either Time Capsule or the newer Airport Extreme Base Station with the GigE & USB port for printer/disk support, Time Machine works just like a local disk except it encrypts the backup in a sparse image file (basically the same thing as 'FileVault') They key to encrypt/decrypt the data in the spare image is kept in your keychain. You can click your Time Capsule in Finder to mount it and you'll see the sparsebundle file(s). Your Time Machine backups are in the sparebundle files. You can drop & drop files anywhere you want on the Time Machine other than inside the sparsebundles (Time Machine manages them... so you shouldn't mess with those manually unless you know what you're doing.)

  • Premiere Pro v6.0.3 won't accept drag & dropped files from Sony's XDCAM Browser v2.1

Premiere Pro reports a "generic file import" error when I try to drag & drop my video files (.mxf) from Sony's XDCAM browser directly into Premiere Pro project window.  However, I can drag & drop the same file(s) directly from a file folder on my computer and I can also use the "file import" from Premiere Pro drop down menu to import the same files with no problems.
Also, I can successfully drag & drop video files (.m2ts) from Sony's Content Management Utility into Premiere.
But why can't I drag and drop the same files (.mxf) directly from my Sony XDCAM Browser.   It appears to me that my issue is related specifically to XDCAM Browser & the .mxf files it supports (note:  Sony's Content Management Utility does support .mxf files so I can't simply use that Utility).

I try to drag & drop my video files (.mxf) from Sony's XDCAM browser directly into Premiere Pro project window.
You need to use the Media Browser within Premiere
    to import these files.
Copy the entire contents of the media card to an internal drive first.

  • Very basic question regarding drag/drop files in 10.6.5

Just (finally) updated to Snow Leopard and the simple way of dragging a file to the bar (just above the list of items in the folder) so as to move it to that folder no longer works.
I prefer not to drag it to above other files in the folder and hoping that the file won't end up in a folder (which has now happened several times).
There must be a simple-no-brainer way of doing this as there was before in 10.5 and as far back as I can remember (been using Macs since the mid-90's).
Why did Apple decide to change this? Did they find a simpler way that I haven't figured out?
    Thanks for any advice.
    RonL

MacRumors forum answered my question almost immediately... and yes they acknowledged that Apple had changed this in Snow Leopard for no good reason.
On both my Leopard and Snow Leopard systems, you cannot drag a file to the title bar (not the "name bar"). On both systems, you can drag a file to the empty space in a window. I just tested to make sure. So, either your description of the problem is completely and utterly inadequate, you are misunderstanding what was said on MacRumors, or someone on MacRumors doesn't know what they're talking about.
How long have you guys been using Macs?
26 years, like baltwo. As a Mac support professional, programmer, web designer and more. I've forgotten more about Macs than you have ever known, I'm sure. Nobody here is impressed that you have used Macs for a little more than half that time, and your rudeness is most definitely not appreciated.
It's one thing to not give me an answer... no problem, fine, but it is an entirely different thing to say that what I have done for years, and that has worked easily for me, has never worked.
You claim that it changed with Snow Leopard. Clearly, it did not. As I've said, I have both Leopard and Snow Leopard systems and have verified that as fact. Once upon a time you could drag to the title bar, but I honestly don't have any idea when that behavior changed. I'd guess in 10.0, but have no way to verify that at this point.

  • Drag drop file viewer

I am somewhat new to java. I built my app in JSP. I need to create an interface for viewing shared files. where the user could drag a file from their Desktop to that window and it would save to the server then be viewable on that page. Is this even possible or am I just dreaming. So far the only thing close Ive seen is MS-Sharepoint. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi.
Firstly...do you have 4.0.1? If not, make sure you update the software.
Secondly I'll admit to being fairly new to FCE. So with that in mind I found an outstanding book that helped me get started. It's called Final Cut Express 4 Editing Workshop, by Tom Wolsky. The book takes you from your system, developing a good work flow, and basic editing. From there he gets into some more advanced titling, animation, and various corrections that can be applied to your projects. It even comes with a dvd with lessons that make the whole book interactive. It has answered a lot of questions that I had and got me going in the right direction.
There are a few other FCE/FCP users here that I'm sure will have more info, but like I said, this book helped me quite a bit.
    Good Luck
