Drag Dvd Studio into the trash can

I advise everyone here to drag DVD Studio Pro into the trash can. After you do that, burn all your needed dvd files to a blank dvd and import them into a program called DVD Studio Lab for the PC. Yea, I know what you are thinking. NOT A PC!!
Let me tell you all something. This program is THE ONLY program that the PC version is 10x better. Dvd Studio Pro offers an easier interface along with all the features of all professional dvds.
I have never in my life been so dissatisfied with a program by Mac until now. I love Final Cut, Soundtrack, Motion, Audio Hijack, etc. They all are the best when it comes down to Video, Sound and Special effects. But please do not waste your time dloading or buying DVD Studio. You will be sorry.

You're entitled to your opinion, thunderkat. Mine is different.
I own DVDLab Pro and DVDSP (as well as a range of other authoring tools). DVD Lab is indeed a very good product and has some amazing features, but it isn't available on a Mac (I'm not including dual boot stuff using Boot Camp). It also has a far harder to understand interface (IMO) which makes it harder to learn and use. As with any software there is a new set of language and terminologies to understand but once past that the software is certainly pretty good to use. Having used DVD Lab for a while I am familiar with what it can do, but I still prefer the ease of use of DVDSP.
Additionally, this is a mac forum, for mac software and mac users. Simply telling people to ditch a piece of software because there is something better available isn't partiularly useful, and possibly edges into Troll territory. It appears to me that you have had a poor experience with DVDSP, but your experience isn't definitive - there are plenty of folk who are more than able to use DVDSP and competent enough to advise others about what works and what doesn't.
But just so you know - using DVDLab Pro still means you are using an abstraction layer app. Sure, the layer isn't nearly as 'deep' as DVDSPs, and with some judicious editing with DVDAfterEdit you can really make discs that fly along.... but you can also do that from the comfort of a Mac OS.
Let's not get carried away with a 'this product is far better than yours' kind of thread. This forum is focussed on using DVDSP and whilst it's sometimes good to raise one's head above the parapet and see the rest of the field around you, it isn't going to get much favour if you simply open your very first post with an inflammatory remark abouit deleting software just because you are disatisfied with it.
Why not explain what your needs are and maybe someone will be good enough to enter into some dialogue with you to see if there is a way to help you overcome your problems with DVDSP.

  • Is it possible to retrieve a deleted file that wasn't placed into the Trash can?

I created a new Word document and was going to submit it to a Subversion repository using the Versions application.
However I accidentally deleted it from within Versions. Versions did not place it into the Trash Can after deleting it, and as it was a new document it is not yet under version control and so cannot be retrieved from the repository.
Is there anyway I might be able to retrive it?
(I've asked the same question within the Versions Google support group but posting here while/if I get a response from there. Wondering if there are any OS X specific techniques/tools I can use if Versions doesn't provide the ability).

Did you try to open this file in Word for editing and saved the modified file under the same name?
If that is the case then you should always use Save as to save the file under a different name and in another folder.
If that wasn't the case then you should have kept the file unless other (cleanup or anti-virus) software has removed the file because Firefox wouldn't remove files that weren't saved to temp folder.

  • When I try to drag an item into the trash, I get message that Finder wants to make changes; enter password

When I try to drag anything into the trash the message :  Finder wants to make changes;  enter your password.  But I cannot trash the document/folder, etc.  I can eject a disk/flash drive etc by dragging to the trash.

Choose your Home folder "Get Info" (command-i) and be sure you have "read & write" in the Sharing & Permissions section. Check under "General" section to be sure it isn't locked. If that is correct, launch Applications/Utilities/Terminal and at the prompt copy & paste this command…
    mkdir ~/.Trash
    Press return.
If you get a message that the folder already exists, copy & paste these commands...
    sudo chown $UID ~/ .Trash
    Press return.
Enter your admin password (it will be invisible)
    Press return.Then enter
    chmod u+rwx ~/.Trash
Press return. Log out and back in, or restart.

Entire folders and files disappear from my Creative Cloud folder and they get moved to the trash can. Is there a reason this keeps happening? How can I prevent this from happening in the future?

  • After You Drag an Icon Into the Dock, Can You Change the Way it Looks?

I work with files that are on a few Windows servers, so I can't change the icons of any files or folders that are on those servers. I've dragged each of the servers' icons into my dock so I can access them quickly, but all the icons in the dock look the same. Is there a way I can change the icons in the dock that represent those servers? There's no "Get Info" for them so you can't copy and paste the same way you can with folder/file icons that reside on your hard drive.
I created an alias (shortcut), copied it onto my desktop, changed that icon, then dragged that into my dock, and then deleted all the original aliases, but it doesn't hold the link, so I want to be able to drag the server icon into the dock and then access that icon and change it.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Lloyd

Anything on this yet? The whole "alias/shortcut" thing didn't work. I actually got it to work but after restarting the computer the icons in the dock show as question marks.
Isn't there a resource file or something I can dig into to change those icons in the dock?
    Thanks...

  • I Made a bad desinstalation with adobe Illustrator cc, I put it in the trash can!

I Made a bad desinstalation with adobe Illustrator cc, I put it in the trash can!

You cannot remove a PDF file from "adobe" --- there is no computer application "adobe".
There's "Adobe" the software house. There's "adobe" the earthen building material.
Anyway, you've a PDF that must go to the trash can (& not collect $200 when passing GO).
    Two frequently used processes are:
Like any file on a computer you can locate it via your OS's file browser, select it then press-release the "Delete" key on the keyboard. The files goes into the "trash can".
Like any file attached to an email you can select the attached file (PDF, etc.) and then press the Delete key on the keyboard. The file goes into the the trash can.
    Be well...

Somehow my iTunes app has been put into the trash.  How can I get this and all of the stuff that was in it back to my Application folder?  I try to drag it out of trash, but it won't work.

Also, when I do try to drag it out of the Trash to put it back into Applications (on the Finder sidebar), it asks me to authenticate with the administration password.  I enter it, and then a window appears saying that I can't do that because I do not have permission to modify iTunes.  Please help.

  • I dragged some of the Time Machine backup folders into the Trash and now I can't empty them out of the trash because it says the applicaiotns ar ruining - what can I do?

I have dragged soem of my Time Machine folders into the Trash. Now when I try to empty the Trash it says it cannot empty some of the files because the applicaitons are running.
What can I do to delete them and completely empty the Trash.
NOTE: the Trash is on my iMac, not the Time Machine backup drive.
    Thanks!

    Greetings Dennis,
Time Machine handles file deletion of its backups or you can use the Time Machine window to tell Time Machine to delete specific files: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427
    Follow the steps here: http://Pondini.org/TM/E6.html

  • I have by accident dragged the mac os icon into the trash and can't get it

back, I don't want to empty trash just in case I delete it permanently (not sure if this is poss!). is there any way I can get it back?

What icon are you talking about? Your harddrive? Just drag it back out of the trash and either onto the desktop or wherever it was originally, and you should be fine. You can open the trash can by single-clicking its icon in the dock.

  • I recently thought I was updating my Safari browser. When completed, I put all those little files that were on the desktop into the trash. Now my trash is saying it can't be emptied because there are locked files and I don't know how to unlock them

I recently thought I was updating my Safari browser. When completed, I put all those little files that were on the desktop into the trash. Now my trash is saying it can't be emptied because there are locked files and I don't know how to unlock them or get them out of my trash and they keep multiplying. And to make matters worse, I tried renaming them as pdf files thinking that might do the trick.

oh boy ! I'd ask you if you knew what kind of files they were or where they came from, but I don't think you could help me a bunch. Try going to the Utilities folder and running Disk Utilities.  If you want to empty the Trash and it won't empty, go to the finder and choose "secure Empty trash". Worse case scenario-you may have to reinstall Snow Leopard, but I don't know what else to suggest. If you have a DVD of Snow Leopard, boot up from that,  and reinstall the OS. This will not touch the stuff you have on your Hard Drive, then you can update from 10.6 to 10.6.8, otherwise Onyx? Maybe those files are part of the OS which needs them to keep running.  if you hold down the Shift key on reboot, you can reboot in Safe mode and maybe you can take the files out of the trash that way
    good luck

  • When wanting to remove unwanted applications from my Mac, does dragging them into the trash COMPLETELY uninstall the software?

My 2010 Macbook Pro that is running on OS X Mavericks (10.9.4) has been running rather slow lately because of all the files I use for work. I have gone through and deleted all the unnecessary applications by simply dragging them into the trash, but I am curious, does this ACTUALLY uninstall the application? My reason for asking is because in some cases, when dragging the app to the trash, the app simply just says, "Move to trash" and other times it says, "Uninstall application." Like I said I want to clear up as much space as possible to get my laptop running a bit faster.
And yes, I am already in the process of ordering new RAM to help speed up the computer as a whole, but I would like some help in UNINSTALLING unwanted applications, and am also open to any other ideas on how to speed my computer up. I am EXTREMELY tech savvy when it comes to computers, especially Apples, I just can't seem to figure this one out.... HELP ME!
    Thank you in advance

Have a look at this video tutorial on how to uninstall applications completely on Mac OS X, something apps like AppZapper and AppDelete are not able to do yet.
And unless you have a 250 GB HDD with less than 5 to 10 GB of free storage, freeing up storage space will not make your computer run faster.
Maybe think about getting an SSD as system drive, it speeds up your Mac quite considerably.

  • How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon.

How do I add my Applications fold back onto the dock? People say I must drag it near the trash can, but that just puts it past that barrier. I am trying to get it back to where it disappeared from, on the left hand side near the finder icon. And how / why did it disappear?

With respect, you actually cannot store folders on the left side of the Dock - only on the right side. I wonder if you're talking about Launchpad, which looks like a silver rocket and shows you your installed applications? It's not actually a shortcut to the Applications folder, though. You can certainly drag Launchpad into the left side of the Dock from the Applications folder.

I have accidentally deleted the trash bin in my mailbox and can no longer move any deleted mail into the trash.  I thought I was removing all the emails from the trash bin but somehow managed to delete the bin instead.  Does anyone know who to reinstate the bin?

You are running 10.6.8? If yes, I assume you have your install disks? As the trash bin is part of Mail app and that is an integral part of the OS, the only way I know to get it back is to reinstall the OS. You won't lose any files, just reinstall the OS over the top of the current system.
