Drag to dock broken?

This might be 'feature vs. bug' territory, but I routinely open things in photoshop (from safari or similar) by dragging and dropping the graphic onto photoshop (or word, pages, etc)
It appears that this behavior conflicts with the new doc expose feature, in that attempting to do this no longer works.
Any ideas as to fixes, outside of turning dock-expose off? (i'd rather not, its nice, I just wish I could turn drag/drop behavior off).

BTW- Have you found the (AFAIK, undocumented) "Open in Quicktime X" menu one gets in Safari? I tell you, this one caught me flat-footed! If you don't know what I'm on about, try control-clicking the OP's links in this thread. Yippeee! -s
yes, pretty nifty. no, I haven't noticed it before as I'm a Firefox user and rarely use Safari.

Drag and drop broken in Mavericks?

The drag & drop functionality keeps dropping out. The only way to get it back is to reboot.
When it goes out I can't even move icons on my desktop. I can select them and double click to open but no dragging.
It seems that when I attempt to drag a copy of a file it lets me drag but when I let go nothing happens. Then nothing drags.
Anyone else having this problem?

I also have this problem when dragging files between file folders in the Dock, and file folders in Finder. Drag and drop will stop working intermittently. When this occurs, files can be dragged from the dock, to the appropriate folder, but cannot be dropped into it. Occasionally the borders of the column in column view are highlighted blue as if it had been selected, but the file does not "drop" into that column or folder.
The problem is not limited to column view. If dragging a file will not work in column view, it will not work in list view either. Dragging files from one finder column or folder to another works fine. For me the issue is confined to dragging files from a folder in the dock (such as the downloads folder) to a folder in the finder.
Restarting the finder corrects the problem for a limited time. It's not a solution since it will happen several times an hour at least.
Would love to see an actual solution to this problem!!

Can't open apps with contextual menu, or dragging onto dock icon

I've recently reinstalled Tiger and updated successfully with the 10.4.11 combo installer.
I've discovered that when, for example, I use the contextual menu to open a jpeg with Photoshop CS, nothing happens. If I try to drag it onto the Photoshop icon in the dock, the app will open but the file won't.
Double clicking the file opens it in Preview (default), but I sometimes want to do more than view it in preview - I want to edit it in PS. I can only open it from within PS. Also, when using Iphoto, even when I select external editor it won't open in Photoshop.
This is a new quirk and I've never had the problem before. I'd appreciate any suggestions of how I can solve this. Many thanks, Karen

Before I start trashing things, just to play it safe ... what are the consequences/downside of getting rid of those folders?
Just move them to the Desktop incase we need for some unknown reasin to put them back.
Should I just move them out one by one to see if I can isolate the problem?
Yes, you could do that, but... I think some prefs help rebuilding other prefs if present.
I have created a new "test user" - I guess I should log out/log in to see if the problem is still there before doing any throwing away of prefs, right?

Icons don't drag to dock

I've been finding that when I try to drag an application icon into the dock, the thing just bounces out. Basically, if a program wasn't already represented in the dock before I upgraded the OS, the I can't get it into the dock.
Is there a way to fix this?

Have you tried setting up a second account and seeing if the problem persists? If not, try that first. If it works in the new account, then we might can diagnose the problem to be a permissions or .plist issue. For grins, if the first suggestion works, try removing these two files from your User--> Library-->Preferences folder: com.apple.dock.db and com.apple.dock.plist
DRAG these two things to the desktop, then log out and back in. It should reset your dock to Leopard standard fare. Let me know if this solves it. If it does, delete the old files you drug to the desktop and add your icons back onto it.

Trackpad not dragging, showing dock or hot corners

I've seen a repeated issue with my month old MacBook Pro. The trackpad seams to loose some functionality: the dock stops appearing when I move to the bottom of the screen, hot corners don't react and I am not able to drag or use dropdown menus. The odd thing is that all of these features still work if it use my wacom or mouse. A restart will fix the issue, but will breaks again within a day.
I am using a wacom graphire 3, VMware, connect to a projector frequently.

Also, this black bar shows up towards the bottom of the screen on the left side when it's on the apple loading screen. Not sure what it is...and yes I have also run system updates.

Screen flickers when dragging from dock lists to desktop

Hi there, I have a Mid 2010, 27 inch iMac 2.93 GHz Inter Core i7 with 8 GB ram with ATI Radeon HD 5750 1GB. Running Lion 10.7.2.
I have noticed that lately when I click and drag an item from my Downloads (the list on the Dock) to my desktop, my screen flickers for a second before I release it. Screen shot included:

It appears you have an issue with the graphics card. You should run the Apple Hardware Test.

Combine Files Dialog 8.1.6--drag and drop broken?

I just reinstalled Acrobat 8, and the Combine Files panel is "all whacky".
If I drag one or more documents into the panel, they are added normally. But if I then add another batch of 1 or documents, the FIRST SET OF DOCUMENTS is added again.
To be clear, if I drag documents 1.tif, 2.tif, and 3.tif into the Combine Files panel, I end up with (as expected)

2.tif
3.tif
But if I then drag documents 4.tif and 5.tif into the panel (or any other set of documents), I end up with
1.tif
2.tif
3.tif
1.tif
2.tif
3.tif
Adding files through the file chooser panel works fine. Can someone tell me if this is peculiar to my installation or if it is a bug in Acrobat Pro 8.1.6?

Sort of the same here:
I just noticed that the standard "drag and drop" in combination with "cmd + tab" to switch applications no longer works on my MacBook Pro. Whenever I try to drag pictures (e. g. jpg) from Safari into a Keynote 09 presentation (switching from Safari to Keynote using "cmd + tab"), the dragged image simply hangs and cannot be dropped into Keynote.
And here's the _truly weird_ thing:
When I then use "cmd + tab" again to switch to the next app again, the Keynote window stays on top and I can suddenly move and drop the dragged picture again. How strange is that?

Mail subfolder drag and drop broken?

I store mail in subfolder sin On My Mac, dragging between current and archived work as projects demand (as in, I'll drag the 'client a' folder from 'Work - inactive' to 'Current work' when a job starts. In Leopard, this worked swimmingly. In Snow Leopard, this rarely if ever works. Usually, files move in ~/Library/Mail but not in the Mail UI, leading to empty mailboxes (which sometimes get their mail back after a Mail restart and mailbox rebuild) and 'ghost' mailboxes.
Anyone else having this problem?
*EDIT: Seems to be mostly isolated to the Mail.Appetizer beta. Fewer (almost no) problems when that's disabled.*

Photoshop Drag and Drop Broken

For some reason I can't drag and drop files on Photoshop CS4. Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround?

After using my computer a little bit, even with few programs open, drag and drop stops working systemwide. I can't drag anything. Right now I've got Mail, Preview, TextMate, Adium, Quicksilver, DragThing, and Google Notifier running.
Restartng fixes it briefly, but it comes back soon. I've tried deleting various caches and preferences like other threads suggest for earlier versions of OS X, with no effect.

Pages panel: Option-drag to duplicate broken in CS6

For some reason, the ability to quickly duplicate a page or spread in the Page panel via an Option-drag doesn't work in CS6. If I try to, say, Option-drag page 3 to insert a duplicate of it between pages 8 and 9, all it does is move page 3 there. To get the desired result, I have to first duplicate the page (which inserts it at the end of my document), then drag it to the proper place.
Option-drag to duplicate/insert worked fine in previous versions, and it's expected behavior on the Mac. Am I missing something here?

I've also noticed that sometimes Option-drag does nothing at all. I get a spinning beachball for a second, then... nothing.
I'm hesitant to believe that trashing my preferences will fix this, as I've seen this happen on two separate Macs.

Drag-n-drop broken in itunes 7 ???

I can't seem to drag and drop directly from explorer to my ipod with itunes 7 [manual music management]. I have to drag it to the 'library' first, and then drag it from the library to my ipod. That sure seems a step backward.

Thanks -- I will try as soon as I have the nerve to try 7 again. I am still looking for other fixes, like ability for it to remember when I tell it to download/not-download album covers. When I last tried it, it just couldn't remember what I told it from one run to the next. Also there is that problem of wanting to spend hours scanning my ipod for 'gapless informaion' [which I have no need for whatsoever...]

IPad 4 started charging reeeeaaally slowly. Is the charging dock broken, how do I fix that? Mum spent loads of money on it, I really hope it's not broken!

I recently bought a new charger, labelled as genuine on amazon and cost me £8 (I should have just got it from apple) then the iPad goes into a frenzy going from charging to not charging to charging to not charging every second, now plugging in my iphone 5's charger, it charges so slowly, it got to 15% in about an hour. What's happened to it? I read it might have burnt out the charging dock, if it has, can I get that fixed?

If you don't have access to the proper iPad charger, you may be able to use the iPhone charger for an interim charger, but I definitely would not use it as a permanent solution. You may have more success if you connect the charger, then turn of the iPad. The charge cycle will still be very slow though.

HiFi Dock broken - anyone else seen this?

I am having the following problem and am curious if anyone else has seen it. I put my ipod in the HiFi dock, and it doesn't recognize the ipod unless I put something behind it to prop it up, so that the angle of the dock is level with the ipod.
The ipod is fine, according to Apple, and I can reproduce this problem using another ipod, though not so often or so easily.
Has anyone else had a dock problem like this?

it is quite common, not only implies to iPod HiFi, it happens on my ,Bose sounddock system too.
did you use the iPod dock adapter came with the iPod HiFi, you should get improvement by adding the adapter between the iPod and hifi's dock
