Dragging application to second monitor

New Mac Mini owner with 2 displays. When clicking and draging an application from main monitor to second monitor the application "snaps" back to main monitor when I release the mouse button.

Be aware that you might have to restart LR to get the correct calibration applied as LR does not seem to be aware of multiple monitor profiles at this point. To drag the window, you need to have LR in windowed mode.

  • Open certain applications on second monitor

    Hi,
The display of my labtop is too small to work on large graphic files, so I would like to open Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign etc. by default on the external monitor I have connected. Other programs I like to open on the labtop screen.
    Is this possible?
I have tried to work around this issue by installing the little program SecondBar in order to have the menu bar available and by creating different working spaces for single and dual monitor setup. But dialog boxes are still opened on the main display.

Window/ dialog placement is a feature of your graphics driver, so check the settings there.

  • Application screens lost on second monitor....

    Hello,
I had a second monitor hooked up and I had some app windows on that screen but I returned the monitor this morning, now I can view those apps anymore...they are stuck over on that non-existing screen now....how do you get your back onto the main monitor? i tried restarting but no go....
    thanks!

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder, and run scripts such as:
    tell application "Finder"
    set position of window 1 to {204, 96, 819, 501}
    end tell
changing the script to move each window in turn. The application's name in the first line and the first number in the second line specify which window to target.

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't get palettes onto second monitor

I am using Photoshop CS4 and I just upgraded to Mavericks. When I opened PS I discovered that all the palettes that normally reside on a second monitor are now all on the same monitor with my PS document and I can’t drag them to the second monitor. It seems that PS does not recognize there is a second monitor there. I can drag documents and palettes from other applications onto this monitor so it appears to be only a PS issue. Is anyone else having this problem and is there a solution?

This is probably a silly question, but have you rebooted your Mac?  It's silly to ask because most likely the OS upgrade required a reboot, but hey, I don't know the specifics.

  • How do I get photos to preview in a second monitor on Bridge CC?

This question must have been asked here before but I wasn't able to find the answer. Sorry if this is a repeat question...
How do I get photos to preview in a second monitor on Bridge CC? It's harder to find the answer this than I expected it to be.
    Thanks.
    Windows 7, i7, Nvidia Quadro 4000

Thanks, Curt. I wondered if that was it.
In other CC applications I can detatch the tab and drag it over. I guess it's not that bad to do the stretch, though.
    Thanks again.

  • How can I make disappear the finder tool bar in the second monitor?

How can I make disappear the finder tool bar in the second monitor?
(I have to use ProVideoPlayer, a professional application for presenting videos and I really need a clean second monitor!)

After changing that setting and logging out and back in as it indicated, do you still have two menu bars?
If you are already set up that way and want to move the menu bar to the other monitor, drag it there in the Arrangement tab of the Displays system pref.

  • How to use second monitor as extended monitor

Want to use a second monitor at MacbookAir 11. I get the mirror to work and I know resolution is unfortunately not the same, but I wanted to use the two as one extended monitor. I cannot move or extend any window to cover both. Any advises how to get to that?

You should be able to drag the application off the right side of your monitor and it appear on the TV.  You can size and position as desired.
Check System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab  for the placement of the external monitor.  It normally defaults to the right side but could be above/below or left of your primary.

  • Can't scroll-select on second monitor

When using Safari on my Macbook Pro on a second monitor, I can't select more text in a browser window than what shows on the screen. In other words, when I select and drag, the windows doesn't scroll.
Anyone else have that problem, and any resolution? Other applications, including Firefox, work in the second monitor without apparent problem.

Hmmmm. Looks like nobody has heard of this problem.

  • Shadows of 1st monitor on second monitor.

    Hello!
I just "upgraded" my setup from macmini to mbp. Which means I'm new to 2 screen setup, that I have now on my table. There are some really annoying things about it. As I use laptop in front of my cinema display I have laptop screen on the bottom and cinema display above it. I'm running LogicPro from the edge of the screen to another edge of the screen (not fullscreen mode). And when I have some other application on the display of the laptop it has terrible looking shadow from my main monitor on it. Is there a way to disable the shadows going from one monitors windows to another monitor? I undestand that shadows only appear to the active application's windows but they don't look and feel nice.

Window > Arrange and right at the bottom New window for (your file name)
You can drag this across to the second monitor, and work on either window.  The results will be reflected in the other window.  You can have each window at different zoom levels, so It's a useful trick for seeing an overall result of making a local edit while zoomed in.
Note: if your dual monitor workspace has panels open on the second screen, they will obscure the new window.  So you would need to change the workspace back to something like Essentials.

  • Firefox Opens on Second Monitor...Irritating

I moved my FireFox browser window to the second monitor so I could watch a DVD on the iMAC.
Now, the stooopid browser opens upu every time on the secondary monitor, not the iMAC primary.
I've tried everything to get FF to open on the primary iMAC and it still insists on opening up in the secondary.
Any ideas?...like disconnecting the second and restarting?

    Hi--
I assume you've tried this, but it might not update its preferences until it's quit cleanly, so what happens if you open it, move it to your main monitor, then immediately quit? It should remember where it was and open there with the same sized window.
Otherwise, the window settings are stored in a file called "localstore.rdf" in Firefox's folder. The easiest way to find it is to do a Spotlight search for "localstore.rdf." It's possible to have more than one of these files if you have other Mozilla browsers installed, so make sure you click the little "I" in your Spotlight search results (use "Show All" from the Spotlight menu) to confirm you're looking at the one in /Users/username/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/. You can reveal it from your Spotlight results by using the "command"-"r" key combo. Drag it to the desktop and launch Firefox and see where it comes up.
You can also edit that file directly with a text editor if you want. Just don't do it while Firefox is running, as it'll overwrite your changes when you quit Firefox.

  • Can't open TOOL GALLERIES Illustrator CC on second monitor

    Hello,
I have a laptop and a second display (via HDMI). In Illustrator CC, trial version, I can't open the flyout menus(known also as the 'tool galleries').
I know how they work, but nothing seems to do the trick (click and hold, right click, click on the corner). When I drag Illustrator back on the laptop display, the functionality reappears, the flyout menus work, but I need to use the second monitor.
Is this a bug? How can I fix it?

    Mac OS?
Are you using the application frame?
At the moment there's a mysterious issue with the panels.
