Dragging Files Out Of iTunes

Hey guys
I want to drag files out of my iTunes library, onto a flash drive so i can put it onto my PS3. Anyway, some of the albums i have drag like normal, and i can put them on, but some albums dont. When i drag the files, nothing happens. Even when i try and drag them to the desktop, still nothing. So i go right click, and show in windows explorer, but i get the error "c:/documents and settings.... etc." "Access Id Denied"
But i can access the file that is in my My Music folder, if you get me, but just can't drag it out of iTunes. Anyway know of a solution? I don't want to drag it out of my My Music folder, because the album artwork doesn't follow it, but if i drag it out of the iTunes library, album art follows it.
Cheers.

What kind are the files you are trying to copy from itunes?

  • Dragging music out of iTunes 12

    Hello
I upgraded recently to Yosemite and iTunes 12.
My problem is that I can no longer drag content out of iTunes and on to my desktop or other folders on my hard drive. I find this a very useful function, not least because I have an Android phone that can't sync via iTunes. It's something I've done for years.
When I highlight a file now and try to drag it out of iTunes an access denied symbol is superimposed on the file icon as soon as it's out of the iTunes environment.
I can, however, still drag files directly to the Mail app icon and email them as attachments (which isn't something I want to do anyway).
Does anyone know whether this is a Yosemite problem? An iTunes 12 problem? Or perhaps some sort of permissions problem with my set-up?
I've tried restarting and repairing permissions.
    Thanks
    Will
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012); OSX 10.10.2; iTunes 12.0.1.050

    Hi, thanks for this.
It does appear to be a permissions problem, and not just affecting music files.
The middle section (between my user name and ‘everyone’) of the permissions bit of the info panel says ‘fetching’ for all files.
I found that when I imported audio from a CD into iTunes, making new mp3s, I didn’t have the problem with dragging out of iTunes.
I tried shut down, disk repair and permissions repair but it hasn’t fixed the problem.
    Best

  • Copying Band files OUT of iTunes

Hi, I have written a few songs with GB for iPad, great tool, absolutely loving it!
But for one niggle; I can't seem to "drag-and-drop" export the ".band" files I send to iTunes into my Windows 7 desktop? I understand from my research that the ".band" file is actually a folder (on Mac anyways) so I am thinking this may be the cause of the issue (being probably a different structure to that expected by Windows, hence Windows doesn't like to save it perhaps?)
Anyways, despite this what I could do with is a way of getting my ".band" files out of iTunes and on to a hard drive so that I can have backups of my compositions and share them with other members of my family that are also composing, but on different devices.
Any ideas on how this can be achieved? The simple way would seem to be the drag-out procedure that I use for the converted m4p versions of my music, but this simply doesn't work with the ".band" files...
    Any help much appreciated!!

The Band file in Windows 7 is indeed all in a folder. To get at it:
-- Connect your iPad up to your Windows 7 machine
    -- Launch iTunes
-- in iTunes - Click on the "Apps" Selection at the top of the window (sandwiched between "Info" and "Music" on the top
-- Scroll down to "File Sharing" in the window
-- Click on GarageBand in the list of apps
-- Highlight the Band file you want to export (listed to the right under "GarageBand Documents"
-- Click the "Save To" button
Specify the folder you want to dump the files to. I'd recommend a new folder, or one specifically for GarageBand files.. as there will be several new files dumped there.
    That should do it . . .

  • Can't drag files out of the dock folders/stacks

On Mavericks I'm able to drag files out of the folders/stacks I have on the Dock (Downloads, Documents, etc.) just as you would anywhere on OSX. But, for some reason my mom (Mavericks) and my fiancee (Mountain Lion) can't. I've tried checkin the permissions for those folders (in Get Info) and they have read/write permissions. This only happens in list view, not in fan, grid or automatic. Is there some hidden setting or something else that would allow them to be able to drag files?

For downloads, go to your user folder downloads and remove them there. Same for Applications. To remove alias from the Dock hold down the command key while dragging them from the Dock.
If that does't work, go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. Then try a Dock reset.
Try doing a Dock restart using the following Terminal command:
    killall Dock
Log out/in and test. If that doesn’t work, you need to look in your user Library/Applications Support/Dock for the .db. Use the Finder “Go To Folder” command. Enter ~/Library/Applications Support/Dock.  Move the .db to your desktop.
    Then try a dock reset.
    Applications/Utilities/Terminal enter the command
    killall Dock
Log out/in test. If it works okay, delete the .db from the desktop.
If the Dock is the same, return the .db to where you got them from, overwriting the newer ones.

  • Can't Drag Files into the Itunes Library anymore

I was just taking some mp3s from my old computer to my new one and I have been doing this for a few days, yesterday, I couldn't drag anymore songs into the library for some reason. A blue rectangle comes up, but I can't position it over 'Music'. Dragging files into the playlists still work though.
    Can anyone help?

  • Drag file OUT of portfolio onto another program

By default a user is able to drag a file out of a pdf portfolio onto their desktop or a folder. I'm wondering if it's possible to grant permission to drag the file out of the portfolio into a specified document. Is this possible? Where/how could I modify this permission? Specifically, I have image files that I want to drag out of the portfolio and into another pdf document.

I posted this on another thread. See if this works:
    1) Uncheck "Backup previous version" in Keynote's Preferences.
    2) Make a duplicate copy of your file that has issues and save it.
    3) If you still get spinning wheels from switching between apps after editing or 10 seconds of inactivity, manually save with command+s. It may beach ball here but be patient and wait for it to finish! Try editing and resume doing work now.
Command+s may be a bit slow but I think that might be normal since the files are so big.
Good luck and let me know if this works.

  • Dragging files out of portfolio

By default a user is able to drag a file out of a pdf portfolio onto their desktop or a folder. Permission to drag those items onto another document or program is restricted. I'm wondering if it's possible to grant permission to drag the file out of the portfolio into a specified document/program. Is this possible? Where/how could I modify this permission? Hi,
I don't think you are going to have much luck with this task.
While you can drag out of a portfolio, it is generally just to Explorer. You can't drag a file into another PDF, using drag and drop. This functionality is not available within Acrobat.
In addition you will not be able to drag images from a portfolio or from Explorer into an image field in an XFA form.
    Sorry,
    Niall

  • Why can't I drag files out of folder stacks in Yosemite

After upgrade to Yosemite, I can't drag files or folders from stacks in the dock to anywhere, I need to open the folder in the finder to do this. anybody havin

For me, it kind of fixed itself. Unfortunately I cannot say for sure what I did that triggered the fix, because I just noticed the other day that I was able to drag and drop again (what a relief). I can't say for sure that this is related, but the one thing that I did immediately before noticing that it was no longer broken that seemed like it could have had some effect was installing a new, Yosemite compatible version of Asepsis (http://asepsis.binaryage.com). Maybe the problem was the old version of Asepsis hanging around from Mavericks, or maybe doing the Aspesis install somehow fixed it indirectly, or maybe it was just a coincidence and that had nothing to do with it. But that's all I could think of that I did that might have had an effect on the Finder.

  • Why can't I drag files out of Photoshop CC to another program?

Hello, I have a smart object in Photoshop that I want to drag into InDesign, however when I drag the file onto InDesign's icon in the dock it does nothing. This has worked for me in the past. It won't drag into Illustrator either.
Has anyone else experienced this and resolved it?

The reason is Photoshop is a document editor. It does not work on files it can only save documents into some image file formats. So there is no file that you can drag out of Photoshop. It does support copy and paste and you can copy layer from to the system clipboard or a copy merge to the clipboard and paste into an othe application.  I do not have other Adobe applications so  I do not know what data exchange Adobe does support between its application.

  • Can't drag songs out of iTunes

So I'm trying to copy all the songs from a playlist to a flash drive. I select all the tracks in iTunes 11 (Windows), then drag them to my flash drive. Nothing happens. I try the same thing using a desktop folder as the destination. Nothing.
If I drag *one* track, it copies just fine. But if I try to do more than one, it flat-out doesn't work.
    Help!!!

  • Dragging files out of iPhoto

I was uploading photos to fotki out of iPhoto and I noticed that even though I dragged the modified photos out of iPhoto only the original file got uploaded. Is there any way of dragging the photo out of iPhoto, but still retain the modifications made to the picture? I don't want to have to go into the modified folder since this would take forever for batch uploads. It's much easier to drag the pictures right off of iPhoto.
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you dragging to the desktop first? That has always given me the edited version. If it's not for you, rebuild the library as follows and try again: launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Moving music files out of itunes

    Hi,
I've finally maxed out my 20GB on my device and once I did, I experienced hard drive problems, with the hard drive whirring and clicking and struggling along. I believe I may have finally solved that problem, but now I'd like to separate out a significant amount of my music from my Itunes Library. Is there a way I can keep my music on my hard drive, but not immediately accessible to Itunes so Itunes will load more quickly?
    Thanks for your time!
    ~daniel
      Windows XP

    daniel,
There is a way but, to be honest, I don't think it will make any difference in how quickly iTunes starts running. The reason being that iTunes only contains a list of references that point it to the location of your music files - and that location is not within iTunes itself.
You can delete those references by simply selecting (highlighting) them in your iTunes Library display and pressing the Delete key on your keyboard. (Ctrl-clicking or Shift-clicking will help you select multiple items.)
If iTunes asks you about deleting the files from your hard drive as well, just say no.

  • Extract music files out of itunes library

i was adding cd's to my computer and had a setting wrong.  Now all my files are IN the itunes library, but i cannot access them outside of itunes.  Grrr!! I have changed the setting now, to import cd files to my music folder, and ADD a copy in the itunes folder.
Anyway....ideas on accessing music files, or tring to'extract' them from itunes.  I would like to be able to use media player sometimes with my entire library.
    Thanks!

I wish it were so easy.  That is the first thing I tried.
It now seems that the file type in the itu es library is not compatible with media file.  So I am tring to change the file type, but this is a mundane, slow process.
How come itunes cannot sync with other types of mp3 players??  That is where my problem starts.  I bought cheap players for my kids - sansa clips....and itunes does not recognize it.

  • How to keep one-time-only audio files out of iTunes?

If someone sends me an audio file that I want to play just once ... or if I record a voice memo on my iPhone ... these audio files wind up copied into my iTunes folder and listed in iTunes. I'd rather they weren't.
Is there some way I can just play an audio file, or record a voice memo, and not have it copied into the iTunes folder and displayed in iTunes? If so, it would save me all the manual deleting every time one of these things shows up.

Thanks, that works, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Rather than have to search for the file in Finder and then hit the space-bar, I'd like to be able to simply double-click on an audio file, let it play in iTunes, but not be copied to the iTunes folder and remain in the iTunes browser until I delete it.
Also, I need to find a way to keep voice memos from residing in iTunes. I use them a lot, and they just clutter it up.
    Thanks much.

  • Just upgraded to iTunes 10.4 - Now I can't drag files from iTunes to Garageband

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
I do a podcast and keep my bed music, sfx and whatnot in iTunes. When I need something I just drag it from iTunes and into GarageBand (4.1.2).
I upgraded iTunes last night (10.4) and now it no longer allows me to drag directly into GarageBand. I have to drag the file out of iTunes, then move it to GB.
Anyone else have this problem and find a fix?

Well, just finished my weekly podcast using Garageband and the "new and improved" iTunes. Here are the clunkers I've found:
    1. Original problem of not being able to drag from iTunes to GarageBand. JamButty, I'll try out your workaround... for this show I literally had to drag all of the files I needed out of iTunes into a folder... Then why use iTunes at all?! Really stupid.
    2. I noticed when I dragged the final show off of iTunes to a folder I use to upload to my S3 account, it now just has the black mp3 icon... not the image I use for the show. Granted, not a functional problem, but just stupid none the less why they would eliminate that.
    3. Show notes in the metadata. Usually I'd copy my first paragraph of show notes (what goes on the web page) into Info > Comments in the metadata. And, if was too long, it would just chop off the end of it. This time I got a "bink" sound and nothing copied in. Tried it a couple of different ways with the same results until I figured out to just put half the copy in. Again, stupid, useless, time-consuming change.
I love Apple to death, but I hate what they do sometimes. The make a great product... then eventually screw it up with dumb changes (for example, the latest version of Final Cut)
