Dragging/highlight text double tap lag/delay?

Hi I am dual booting MBA.
Under the bootcamp 3.1 (now on 3.2) mouse control panel, i have allowed "dragging" to simulate mouse movements as per PC laptop.
This feature is usefull as it allows me to double tap and the re-position a screen, or double tap and select a area of text.
However I find that after i double tap, there is a lag/delay between the tap and being able to select the text/reposition the screen.
Is there anyway to fix this issue? I was on 3.1 and now upgraded to 3.2 and issue is present in both versions.
thanks
kevin

so no one else have this problem? maybe just my computer?

  • TS3274 On my ipad, why do I have to highlight and double tap to do something. How do I disable that function.

  • Delay to release after double tap dragging

Im experiencing an annoying delay after double tapping and dragging or scrolling. I disabled the lock feature where you have to tap once to release the lock but it still remains locked for a short period after I double tap and drag or scroll. For example if i double tap and drag a window then remove my finger from the pad, I have to wait a second before touching the pad again otherwise it will drag the window again. Any way around this ?

Let me know if you solve this - it's really annoying. I'd like to decide for myself when I've let go!

  • Double tap and drag isn't working on touchpad

Hey everyone!  First time posting here so apologies if my post sucks! :P
Normally on a touchpad, you can double tap, hold your finger down on the second tap, and move the finger around to drag windows and highlight text.  This doesn't seem to work on my touchpad.
Instead, what seems to be happening is when I tap once, at the point when I release the touchpad the pointer changes its icon to the dragging icon (The one that looks like a hand grabbing something).  However, regular double tapping works fine e.g. when I want to maximize a window or select a paragraph of text.
    Some information about my setup:
I'm running arch on a Dell Chromebook 11
    I'm using CInnamon DE.
It seems that the settings in the Cinnamon config override the settings in my /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/<touchpad settings.conf>.
Case in point, I add the following lines into my config:
            Option          "TapButton1" "1"
            Option          "TapButton2" "2"
            Option          "TapButton3" "3"
and disable the "Tap to click" option using Cinnamon's GUI settings tool.  If I do this, tapping does not register as a click.
    I have tried the following:
Set the TapAndDragGesture boolean to true.  This doesn't seem to help.
Disable tap to click in Cinnamon's settings, thinking that perhaps the touchpad was recognizing a single tap as two taps.
Messed around with the MaxTapTime and MaxDoubleTapTime settings.
I can't seem to pinpoint the problem... is there some settings I am overlooking?

    Here check this page https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Touchpad_Synaptics.
    It says the following.
$ synclient PalmDetect=1 (to enable palm detection)
$ synclient TapButton1=1 (configure button events)
$ synclient TouchpadOff=1 (disable the touchpad)

  • Can't Drag and Drop with a Double Tap using Single Finger in Lion?

I installed the Mac OS X Lion two days. But I can't drag and drop with a Double tap using Single Finger, which I used to do in Snow Leopard.
If I choose Three Finger Move, then Swap Between Pages goes back to "Scroll left or right with Two Fingers" that only works with Safari, but doesn't work with Chrome or Firefox.
I tried literally every setting in Trackpad and also checked if there was a override settings and there is no overrride setting.
Would be thankful, if you guys could suggest me what to do?

  • Cannot use double tap and move with one finger to select text in Mountain Lion

I've been using OS X in my Macbook Pro since Snow Leopard, and if I choose "tap with one finger to click", I can use double tap and move with one finger to select text if the cursor is between text.
It works in Snow Leopard, and Lion However, in Mountain Lion, this doesn't work!! I have to click in the bottom right corner of my trackpad  in order to select the text.
Can anyone get this fixed ?
    Thanks.

    Caolei,
I don't know if you'll ever see this, but thank you! I hope this helps somebody else down the line, too.
re. "I can use double tap and move with one finger to select text if the cursor is between text."
I've been trying to figure out how to select text with tapping and without clicking.
    This did the trick.
It's quite finicky to not select a space in between words.
Zooming in does seem to help (two finger double tapping in a body of text may trigger a SmartZoom and zoom the current frame of text to fill the screen, if anybody doesn't know this.)
((There's a smartMagnifyWithEvent Cocoa NSEvent that's not universally supported across all applications for noob OS X developers like me.))
I haven't been able to find the part about double tapping between text to begin a selection (which seems to work best when double tapping directly next to a letter) anywhere in the help system on or online. I probably just missed it, though.
Clicking with the built-in trackpad on my MacBook Pro w/ Retina or Magic Mouse just takes too much pressure for an old-time touch typist like me.
As an aside, I've been trying BetterTouchTool and MagicPrefs to enable one finger tap on the Magic Mouse. BetterTouchTool seems to trigger text selection unwantedly and randomly, though.
The whole mystique of Mac / Apple being intuitive and user-friendly seems to be one of the greatest marketing coups / unbelievable con jobs of the last century.
I'm actually somewhat qualified to express an opinion as a software engineer with a degree in Computer Science and programming and user interface design experience in Windows, UNIX, web, Android and other systems, and now OS X and iOS. I could go on and on and on but I won't other to say that I still find Macs buggy and hard to use. I'm now finding that my new iPhone 5 is just as big of a pain (i.e. big thumbs missing landscape keyboard in Contacts.) Of course, I like flexibility and options and custom workflows and more than one way to do things and simply being able to do things at all, so I'm also actually somewhat biased. Sorry for the rant...
    Cheers,
    Hal

  • Cant Double Tap (Click) and Drag. Have to CLICK and drag

In os x snow leo i could double tap my trach pad and drag. But in lion i cant. I have to Click the button and drag. I am using a 2008 (Early - Non Unibody) MBP. This is really irritating me coz i cant drag windows or folders/files and rarrange them. is there a feature or setting i can fix.

THIS IS THE ANSWER TO ALL CLICK AND DRAG TRACKPAD PROBLEMS!!!!!!!!!!!! IT WORKED like a charm, i ****** my pants when i found your post and - tried it and low -& -behold it worked!!!!!... everybody from apple wanted me to spend $100's of $ to get new trackpad... and it was just a simple checking the drag box solution !!!!! • Highlight text and drag over Safari icon to start a search

A few years back, it was possible in Safari to highlight text and drag and drop it over the Safari icon to instantly start a Google or Yahoo search.  That no longer seems to work.  Now, I'm running Snow Leopard with the newest version of Safari.  Back then, I was probably still on Tiger and whatever the current version of Safari was at the time.
Does anyone know if it's possible to restore that old feature to drag and drop text of the Safari icon to start a search?

Nobody knows what I'm talking about?

  • Dragging with 3 fingers is horrid. What happened to double tap & drag?

With the previos OS version I could swipe with 3 fingers to go back and forth on pages and applications and the finder, then if I want to drag something I could just double tap with one finger and drag an item. Easy and simple.
With Mountain Lion, only way to drag with the trackpad is to hold down the physical trackpad button and drag which is kind of a pain to do, especially since my button on my 2010 Mackbook Pro doesn't seem to work as well as it should...or use 3 fingers to drag which doesn't give you as much room to navigate on the trackpad as with one finger.  The main problem with doing this is that I can't go back and forth on apps/finder/etc with the 3 finger swipe because if I turn on 3 finger drag it turns that option off.  So I'm stuck without going back and forth by swiping in apps which I always used and stuck with a more unfriendly 3 finger drag.
What happened to the double tap and drag? It made things so much easier.  Or am I missing an option for that somewhere?  Why on earth would apple remove something like that?  It's a feature I expect to use both on Mac and Windows.

Thanks so much to jeffyg3, I finally found the answer to this!
    System Preferences>Accessibility>Mouse & Trackpad>Trackpad Options.
Enable dragging ON:  choose from menu "without drag lock".

  • Lenovo G50 Touchpad not letting scroll to highlight text in word to delete text in Windows 10

Hi. I'm working on a paper. When I want to use the touchpad to scroll to highlight text to delete it is not highlighting the text. It was working perfectly not too long ago. I'm sure it's something simple but I don't know what happened. Can anyone help me please?

    hi DonnaR,
    Welcome to the Forums.
When you highlight the text, are you doing a double tap & hold then drag to highlight the text or click & hold then drag on the touchpad to highlight?
If it's the former then tapping might be disabled. Ensure that the Touchpad driver is installed and the tapping feature is enabled.

  • Unable to Double Tap with TrackPad or B/T Mouse after 10.8.2 upgrade

    Hello:
Could some kind person possibly help a Mac newb?
For some strange reason, I am unable to Double Tap using *either* my TrackPad or Bluetooth Mouse immediately after upgrading my Mid 2011 iMac from OS X 10.6.8 to 10.8.2.  Single tapping on any file highlights the file name and double tapping the file name (not the icon) allows renaming the file (which I believe is all normal).  All other gestures appear to function normally - just can't double-tap TrackPad or double-click the Mouse.
    ALREADY TRIED:
Shutting down and removing all power cords and cables to the computer.
Removing the batteries from TrackPad & Mouse.
    Creating a new user account.
Reinstalling OS X 10.8.2 including updates 3 times.
Booting into Safe Mode then running Disk Utility to Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk.
Running Capture_Data.dmg and sending the files to Apple Support.
Apple Senior Advisor said that their Software Engineer did not notice anything out of the ordinary, but is now digging deeper.
    Deleted com.apple.Bluetooth.plist & com.apple.PowerManagement.plist per Apple.
Cleared browser cache & history, then emptied trash.
I am currently working with a Senior Advisor at Apple since 02.01.2013 (10 days) to follow-up on the same issue as a previous case opened on 01.14.2013 after upgrading the OS X on 01.12.2013.  Apple originally suggested that I take my iMac to the Apple Store for diagnostic testing, which I have avoided because everything was working fine before the upgrade and then I noticed the same issue with the my mouse.  I decided to hold off wiping the system clean, doing a clean install then migrating my data and settings from the backup until my Apple Advisor tells me if their Software Engineer discovers anything else after they dig a little deeper into the diagnostic report.  But that could take weeks and right clicking to open files is getting old real fast.  Besides, my Adobe CS6 apps rely heavily (if not entirely) on double & triple clicks, so I am paralyzed from using any of their products.
Since Apple said they have no reported cases like this, I have done a lot of digging on my own before writing this.  Sorry about the long post, but I was hoping to provide as much detail as possible to be respectful of everyones valuable time.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Doug Klimek

Problem Solved in less than 5 minutes - Thank you Travis @ AppleCare!
    SOLUTION:
Set the Mouse & Trackpad Double-Click speed to any value other than "Fast". The slider bar has 10 settings (1=Slow to 10=Fast) so I set mine to 9 and it works fine.  But your system may respond differently, so you might want to start with #5 (Middle) and go from there.  FWIW, the #10 setting (Fast) does work, however I had to use one finger on each hand because I couldn't tap fast enough with only one hand.
    HERE'S WHAT TO DO:
Click the Apple Logo > System Preferences > System > Accessibility > Mouse & Trackpad > Double-click speed > Drag slider to the #5 setting (Middle of bar) then tweak to your liking
    FYI ONLY:
FWIW, I had no Double-Click problems when setting the Mouse & Trackpad Tracking to #10 (Fast) as long as the Double-Click speed (above) was set to any value other than #10 (Fast).  I am only mentioning this to share what I learned.
Click the Apple Logo > System Preferences > Hardware > Mouse > Point & Click > Tracking > Drag slider bar to your liking
Click the Apple Logo > System Preferences > Hardware > Trackpad > Point & Click > Tracking Speed > Drag slider bar to your liking
Hope this information is helpful to anyone before consider wiping their disk clean and doing a fresh M/L reinstall like i almost did.

  • Highlighting text in preview without "touchpad click"

I am working a lot on pdfs in which I have to highlight certain parts. I use Mac's Preview. So far I have been using the touchpad, by e.g. clicking and then dragging the cursor over the relevant section. This might sound a bit silly, but the clicking and dragging is become a hassle (if you do it for a few hours) since you have to keep the touchpad pressed while highlighting the text.
Is there a way that i only have to click a key and then can simply highlight with the touchpad the text In short, can I replace the click on the touchpad with a key on the keyboard? I would keep the key pressed with my left hand and move with my right hand on the touchpad. Would be - at least for me - much easier.
Hope i was clear enough. Any hint would be very much welcome!!

Even easier than your suggested solution is to turn on the highlighted gestures in the screenshot below in System Prefernces > Trackpad | Point & Click.
Once they're set, to highlight you just tap (not click) once at the beginning of the text you want highlighted, then 3-finger swipe to extend the highlighting.
Give it a try. I think you'll find it rather effective...

  • How do I highlight text in the new Pages?  It's not clear.

I have the new version of Pages.  And it appears that highlighting of text is an issue.  This is a basic function.
I found there is one quick key version, but doesn't clearly explain how to change highlighting colours.  How to get into it.
I have to explain this to my 80 year old mom, who we told to get a Mac because it was easier!
So if anyone has it laid out step 1, 2, 3, that would be helpful, because it's not clear to me either.
    Thanks!
Apple - please to a quick fix for this one, it should be the same as changing the size or the font or like bold or italic.  Simple, clear, fast and doable..... for anyone!

    TO Peter,
Thanks for the list. I had found it in LibreOffice, tucked away in the Background tab of the Character pane opened by the Character... menu item in the Format menu, and named "Background Color. A few steps further down than in Pages. Apache OpenOffice has it in the same place. But both also have a hilight icon in the toolbar.
I didn't fin highlighting or Color fill in Text Edit (v1.8). Might need a further search.
But this well-equipped party of (one) oscurantist did find a shorter path to highlighting text in Pages '09, cleverly hidden in plain view! See the image below.
    TO hscortez,
I'm aware that changing the text colour is not highlighting.
But YeOldMacFan pointed out how to change text colour AND how to change background colour of text, using Character fill, found in the Advanced Options (Pages 5) or the More (Pages '09) tab of the Text Inspector.
Character Fill fills the space around the character with the chosen colour. As shown above, it's essentially the same effect as dragging a hiliter pen along a line of printed text.
Unfortunately, whats shown above is the Character fill well on the format bar of Pages '09—right out in the open like the highlighter pen button in LibreOffice, and presumeably in MS Word. I don't have Pages 5 (avoiding it until a few more of the missing features arrive), but I do note that Pages for iOS offers highlight as one of the options in the contextual menu that appears when a block of text is selcted.
    The process appears to be:
tap twice to select some text.
drag the handles at each end of the selection to adjust what's selected.
tap Highlight in the menu that has appeared on the screen.
One thing missing appears to be colour choice. The default is a 'hiliter yellow'. I didn't see a way to select a different colour.
"Hopefully, this will make it on their upgrade list. "
Hope is good, but taking action is useful.
Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback > Make your request that this be added to Pages 5. Requests made through Provide ...Feedback go directly to Apple. Comments and questions here are read by users like yourself, and we don't have the ability to change the way the apps work. Not directly, anyway.

  • Double tap on the crown will not return me to last app

When I am on the Home view or on the watch view, double tapping the Crown will not take me back to the last app viewed.  Anyone else experience this?

    LambChops1,
I’m using Mavericks, and it’s still possible to select text to drag and for cutting and pasting. Left-clicking and right-clicking is still possible, too.
Try opening the Trackpad pane of System Preferences, and select the Point & Click tab. To right-click, ensure that your “Secondary click” checkbox has been checked; the small print under “Secondary click” is a dropdown menu which allows you to select the form of right-clicking that you prefer. (For instance, mine is set to “Click in bottom right corner”.) For left-clicking, is your “Tap to click” checkbox checked, or unchecked? (Mine is unchecked, since I prefer pushing for left-clicking over tapping to do so.)
