Dragging images into Aperture (without creating a new Project)

Hi All.
I am trying to pump out a slideshow and I am (in some cases) dragging an image from a desktop folder into a ALBUM in Aperture in which I want the photo. This Album is in a FOLDER with the name of the slideshow along with a number of other Albums in which I am organizing data for this project.
Aperture is creating a new Project in this folder every time I do this. They are labeled "Untitled Project", "Untitled Project(1)" etc. If I delete the Projects then the image is deleted from the Album that I want it in.
Is there a convenient solution for this? In some cases the image is already in Aperture but I don't have the time to go hunting for it and in fact it may not be int there.
Can I somehow create a "Dump Project" that will accept all these new images so that I don't clutter up the space with all the new Projects? Would I do this by dragging and dropping the individual images that are in each of these Projects to the Dump Project?
Any advice that doesn't involve switching out horses would be really welcome.
Thanks in advance!
- Jon

You can't import to an Album, only to a project. Every pic in the Library is in a project. It has to be. If you drag to an Album it will make new project to hold the file. So, don't drag to an Album, make a project and drag to that.

  • Can i import "all images" into iphoto to create a new library?

somehow about 4000 photos out of 10000 disappeared when I moved to the newest iphoto and attached my external hard drive with the old iphoto library to it and switched between libraries using alt to open it.  i was unable to get iphoto to see the missing 4000 even though they were in all images.
i went to all images on the new mac and dragged it into iphoto and created a new library.
it seemed to work but then a few hours later when i looked at my photos they are all just faces!!!!!!!! and in all images the photos are all just faces too.
    what on earth is this?

i am trying to understand why so many of my photos in the library seem to be just faces
Because you imported the face thumbnails into iPhoto as noted several times
    As My first post explained
All images is just that - a list of all images on your computer - all photos (two or three versions of each in iPhoto), the faces thumbnails, and probably icons and other images that have nothing to do with iPhoto
No bug - simply user error
Yes you can create a new library from the photos in the masters folder
But first try to rebuild the database again - if that does not work this time download iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  and use it's rebuild command and see how it does - that will create a totally new liberary leaving your existing one untouched so you can go back to it if needed

  • Move album from one library to another without creating a new project

I accidentally added photos to a new album in the wrong library. I want to move this album with masters and versions to the right library. I exported the album as a project. Then I import the project into the library where I want the album to appear. Importing using either merge or add creates a new project which contains the album. Is there a way to put the album into an already existing project without creating a new one? Using Aperture 3.1.1.

As Frank said, masters and versions all move together. They can't be separated because a version can't exist without a Master file. In fact, when working in RAW everything you see in Aperture is a version since RAW files need to be rendered for onscreen viewing. The masters are on your hard drive somewhere (managed or referenced) and what you see when you import a RAW file is simply an unedited version 1.
This is one of the most important concepts to grasp: you're never actually working with the masters. Aperture is just a big database pointing to files and applying instructions (adjustments) to those files in realtime on your screen.
Just remember that a picture and any of its versions can appear in many albums, in many different places. But as I said earlier, it can only appear in one project. Move a picture from a project and everything follows. Versions are just different renditions of the same master file.
Not sure I'm clear - hopefully I'm helping a bit!

  • How do I import a folder of images without creating a new project?

In Aperture 2.xxx I can import a folder of photos into the project and mimic the folder structure on my hard drive. For example, I export photos as tiffs into a folder that is a subfolder of the folder that contains the master raw files on my hard drive. If I want these new tiff files to be part of the Aperture library I simply import the folder into a project.
With Aperture 3 I can only import a folder as a new project as far as I can tell. Is there a workaround
to import a folder of photos as simply a new folder of the project that contains the master files?
    Thanks
    John

    Hi John,
I also think Aperture 2 has a better import facility and organisation Than Ap 3.
Having tried pvonks suggestion I just cannot get that to provide the folder structure you require.
File>Import Files seems to me to have an odd behaviour. The right hand import panel does not necessarily 'see' all the Projects but does remember ones imported into. If not used before it is necessary to highlight the Project you want to import into in the Library panel which then sets the import panel to match.
By experiment it seems the function of a new Ap 3 folder is just to contain Projects. The easiest way to achieve what you desire is to use a new folder as a bin in which to group your Project structure as you did before with folders. The effect will be the same as you are used to, only the icons will be swapped around.
Alternatively, after importing into an existing Project use a Smart Album to collect the files by import session date and time. You can have as many Smart Albums as you need, each with a different filter setting as suits your purpose. The Import Session filter is found under the Add Rule section on the Smart Album control sheet. This way the Project is the bin and the Smart Albums represent the folder structure you want.

  • Why is it impossible to import pics into existing projects in Aperture 3.6 ? It forces me to create a new project on every import. Tried to change that in preferences but no luck.

Why is it impossible to import pics into existing projects in Aperture 3.6 ? It forces me to create a new project on every import.
Tried to change that in preferences but no luck.

It is working for me.  Two ways to import into an existing project:
Select a project and view it in the browser in split view. If you drag image files from a folder directly into the filmstrip, the dragged image files will be added to that project.
Or select a project in the library, before you open the Import panel. Then you can switch the destination project in the Import Settings  from "new Project" to the selected project.
Have you tried these methods? Where does it not work for you?

  • When importing iPad photos into Aperture, I cannot import into an existing album, only create a new project.

I dont want to create a new project for every group of photos being brought over from my iPad. My iPhone worked perfectly. I was able to choose which project/album I could import into, why would the iPad, running the same iOS, be any different?

    Hi Dave,
Welcome to the user-support Aperture discussion forum.
You would probably benefit from reading Kirby's introduction: [http://discussions.apple.com/messageview.jspa?messageID=13124533&stqc=true]
Is there any way to simply import photos into those albums without having to create all of those annoying projects?
That's a loaded question. It's not "yes or no" according to exactly how you asked it.
You do not have to create a new project for each import, but every picture lives in exactly 1 project. You can then point to any photo from any number of albums. You cannot put a photo directly into an album because an album does not contain photos, it only contains "pointers" to photos.
So, you, as the user, have the ability to put your imports into an existing project. Why are you creating a new project every time?

  • Is there a way to reorder or introduce new pages in iBooks Author, without creating a new IBook?

Is there a way to reorder or introduce new pages in iBooks Author, without creating a new IBook? Is this possible?

The main thing is...you have a way to move forward with your project.
If I may offer some tips, learn to customise the template to suit your project...its basically very easy..once you try.Again a search will bring up posts that address this topic.
IF you do create your own template..save it as a template before using it, that way you have a clean version every time.
When putting your book together save versions as you go along..later you can delete them.
If, as .. you seem to have found, you need to change things or want to try other options, you can copy whole chapters or sections and paste in a new order or  into another version of your template. If you copy into a different template or book, the template basic also transfer to the template. Best way to discover what can be done is simply open a new book to play with! Add a few chapters and sections...include some pages..and just drag things around, copy and paste where you choose. Its just learning and after you delete the junk!..BTW, yes, you can have single pages before the first chapter...i.e. I open a copyright page into a chapter...that drag it to the top of the book tree, a blue line will appear ..drop it.
If you need any help or advice, its available in abundance on this forum.  Have fun...

  • Newly downloaded images don't create a new project

When I download images from my CF card, they don't show up anywhere in my projects, They only show up in the last download folder.
My settings for import are Destination: New Project, Shore files: Aperture library, Rename files: none, No effect presets, no file types are checked, and no backup Location .
How do I get my new images into a new project, and why aren't automatically creating a new project?
I have an Imac running Mtn Lion, and the latest version of Aperture.

Aperture will not import into new projects. When I click import, the dialog says importing to new project. A new project is not created. I have 9 projects which appear to have every image I've ever imported (over 8000). I have other projects, Every new image goes to Name 1.0 ,Name 1.0 1,Name 1.0 2, Name 1.0 3,Etc. Each of these files have all of my images on them, even ones that have prevously been successfully imported into their new projects.
This is really weird. Either your current Aperture library needs fixing or you are having a problem with broken presets and preferences.
Could you please make a test and see, if you are having the same result, when you are importing into a new test library? When in Aperture , go to the "File" menu and use the command "File > Switch to library > Other/New". Now try importing into your library. Do you see the same wrong project names?
If it works well with a new Aperture Library, repair or rebuild your current library - see this manual page:  Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
If it does not work well with a new Aperture library, delete your Aperture user preferences as described here: Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics

  • TS4020 Can I change my iCloud email address name without creating a new account?

CCan I change my iCloud email address name without creating a new account?

Once you have created an iCloud account and chosen an @icloud.com address to go with it you can't change the address (short of creating an entirely new account).
However, all is not lost. You can add up to three 'email aliases' - these are additional addresses (not accounts) which deliver into the same inbox as the main account. (In fact it's a good idea to give out alias addresses, rather than the main address, because if they attract spam you can easily change them.) (New aliases can only be @icloud.com ones; @me.com addresses cannot now be created.)
You should be aware before you start that once you've created an alias you cannot turn that address into a full iCloud account or move it to another account.

  • Publish the website to the root folder (without creating a new folder)

Hi there! Sure this problem has already been discussed here many times and I'm not the only one who's interested this question, but how can I publish my website using FTP without creating a new folder, just to the root folder of my web hosting? Is that even possible or should I each time drag all the files from the folder created by iWeb and put them to the root folder manually? I'm a little bit confused. Guys help me with this, please! Many thanks in advance!!

Yes, you're right, it has been discussed for the past several years and yes, you're not the only who's interested in that question.
A simple googe search confirms it : avoid iweb sitename
Try it, if you haven't done it already.
    Here's my answer :

  • Call an MM transaction without creating a new LUW

    Hello Experts,
I have created a new Z_ transaction in which I want to call an existing Materials Management
transaction (MB1B). Additionally, in my transaction I update some extra custom (z_) tables. I would like to have one LUW so as to perform all updates (both custom tables and SAP tables updated by the MM transaction) together at the final "commit work" in my program.
Is there a way to call the MM transaction without creating a new LUW in my calling program (as the CALL TRANSACTION statement does)?
I have read that one way is to use the CALL DIALOG statement instead. Is it a safe method to use?
Please give as much detailed info (with examples) as possible.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Orestis

    Hi Sandra,
My requirement is to call a transacton in a subscreen. Created a screen 100 that is devided into 2 one for custom container to place tree control and  another for subscreen that is to call transaction.
Call transaction works fine, but this transaction is being opened in new screen(as each transaction use new LUW)., is there any to display the transaction in the sub screen area instead of new screen..
For ex, very similar to t-code SE80. In se80, choose other object, and choose more, and select trasaction  and enter any t-code, then it displays same of SE93 in the right side of the screen...hope it is clear..

  • Checking Session in JSP without creating a new one

Hello, I am trying to convert some old 0.91 JSP's to 1.0,1.1
In the old versions, there is a SERVLET tag that was used to call a servlet that checked to see if the user had a valid session, and if they didn't it would redirect them to a login page where they could login and their session would get certain data put into it so that things would work.
In 1.0/1.1 I see that the servlet tag has been replaced along with the BEAN tag. I need a good way to check the session to see if it is valid, without creating a new one if it is not, so that I can redirect them to the correct login page so everything gets initialized properly.
I know this seems like a broken way to do things, but I am having to do maintenance/upgrade on this and I don't have time to go through the whole thing and make it work differently.
Anyway, any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated.
If you need any further info from me about what I am doing, don't hesitate to ask for it. I REALLY need some help here. Thanks!

The method isNew() works well but you can use this
session=pageContext.getSession().....if earlier you had put in some value into a valid session, then redirecting becomes easy as you can check it this way.....
    <%
    session=pageContext.getSession();
    String sess_id=(String) session.getValue("session_id");
    if(sess_id==null)
    %>
    <jsp:forward page="....." />
    <%
    else
    // do whatever required
    %>

  • Aperture crashes when I try to create a new project

Hello all, having an odd problem with Aperture crashing when I try to create a new project.
I suspect the problem is likely related to the library file's permissions, as I was previously working with this library as another user (stopped using the account because of issues solved by too many fonts being installed).
The problem occurs when I finish naming the project and hit enter, so presumably when Aperture attempts to save the new project into the library file.
    Any ideas?

    Ha i figured as much...
Thanks for the help. Wish i could just update I movie!!!!

  • Auto import images into aperture...and continue importing...

i know that there is a script to import images into aperture, but i need to use this with a tethered camera....so i use a canon app to shoot files to a folder and as the files come in, i need them to get imported as they keep coming in....i am only referencing them, so they are actually staying within the folder....i can import the files but i don't know how to/which command "keeps checking the folder for new files that came in" hope this makes sense....
i know that there is a "hot folder" app available which seems to be a automator app, but it is superslow and only brings in every 4th or 5th image (and sometimes just brings everything to a halt...)

  • Setting up a time capsule without creating a new network.

I want to set up my time machine but without creating a new network. However, my current network doesn't allow to connect a router to the network. When I connect the energy cable to the time capsule it keeps flashing an amber light. When I open the AirPort is says that it didn't find the base stations of AirPort and will keep searching.

To setup a TC.. without creating a new network.. and current network doesn't allow a router to connect.. sorry you have just created a conundrum.. nobody can give you an answer to that. It is impossible to use the TC in that case. It is 100% only a network drive. You should get an external drive and plug it into the computer.
The only solution is to have two networks.. if the current network cannot be used even with a bridged TC.
As long as you have a Mac with both wireless and ethernet you can do it.
See instructions I have with all the screen shots near the bottom of this thread.
