Dragging items in Cover Flow

I really hope I'm not the only one this happens to. For some reason about 2 times out of 15 when I try to drag items from the list under the 'covers' in a finder window it won't let me.
I.e. say I have 3 files in my finder and it's in cover flow view, in any one of these times I will select them and no matter how much I click and drag they just don't move! I then have to switch to folder view, drag them easily to another location, and then switch back to cover flow.
I'm not dragging the previews, trust me, I'm dragging the list version of the folders/files etc.
It's just a matter of luck if I the next time I open a finder window it wont let me drag.
Here's a pic of what happens normally when you drag:
http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k220/rowanmcdonald1991/?action=view&current=wo rking.jpg
(ignore my short story in the background)
And here's what happens sometimes:
http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k220/rowanmcdonald1991/?action=view&current=no tworking.jpg
(it just won't let me drag no much how I click and drag, etc) (i.e. just selected items)
Surely, out of the millions of users of Leopard this happens to someone else sometimes? I can't believe Apple missed this, it's been like this ever since I got my computer (two months ago)
Any answers?

Anyone?

  • Bug:  My Finder folder has 4 items but Cover Flow is showing 5.

My Finder folder has 4 items but Cover Flow is showing 5.
I can even click on the erroneous item in cover flow, but it doesn't atually exist.
    Mavericks, everything is updated.
Sure, rebooting or restarting Finder might fix it, but this yet another bug with Finder I have found.

    Hello,
Can you count the beeps or flashes?
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Problem deleting items in cover flow view

    Hi,
I recently upgraded to a new MacBook Pro with running Leopard and I thought that viewing directories using "cover flow" view in the finder would be a great new way to quickly browse through folders containing many pictures and deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. However, I've run into a problem. When I delete an item in the directory, sometimes the highlight bar automatically highlights the next item in the list (what I want it to do), and sometimes it just disappears so that when I press the down arrow, rather than just jumping to the next picture in the folder after the one I just deleted, it jumps all the way back to the first picture in the folder. As you can imagine, this can be pretty annoying when trying to sort through a folder of over 600 photos. I can't figure out why deleting an item sometimes selects the next item and sometimes deselects all items, but I would like to find a way to fix this so I can sort through my photos with ease. Thanks for any info.

Sounds like a bug. Send Feedback or send bug reports and enhancement requests to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. The nice thing with this procedure is that you get a response and a follow-up number; thus, starting a dialog with engineering.

  • Problems trashing items while viewing in cover flow

While in a folder on my desktop I am viewing items as cover flow.  I have trashed quite a few but the image of what has been trashed still appears. the file name changes because the item has been trashed but the image of what has been trashed stays there instead of showing the image of what the file actually is.  Very confusing and creates a workflow problem.
    Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem. looks like a bug.
    1. tracks are marked as compilation
    2. grouped together (same name used for album name and grouping for all tracks)
    3. in preferences i have also checked group compilations together.
album art when sorting by album still shows art for each track seperately.

  • How can I omit albums from Cover Flow?

I have a long list of Music I want on my iPod but would like to omit several entire albums from the Cover Flow. Can someone please advise me on how to do this.

There's no provided way of omitting selected items from cover flow however if you don't need to use the Audiobooks feature for it's intended purpose you could tell iTunes that the selected albums are Audiobooks. A drawback however is that the Audiobooks section on the iPod hasn't been updated to reflect the changes that make multi-track audiobooks much easier to work with in iTunes 8.x. The iPod will jumble all the tracks of the albums up in ascending track name order. The workaround for this is to ignore the Audiobooks section of the iPod and create playlists to access these albums that you've hidden from the Cover flow. This approach would also hide these albums from the general Artist & Album menus which may not be what you want...

  • Finder slow to show items in column, icon views (OK in list, cover flow)

I'm seeing new perplexing slow behavior on our three-month old iMac running 10.5.5: when in column view and selecting (or in icon view and double-clicking) a folder, there is an initial five-second lag before items will appear in the next column or window; meanwhile, the bottom of the window will only show the space available until items appear and only then will it list the number of items along with space available. It's enough to make you wonder if there actually is anything in the folder while you wait. I say "initial" lag because on subsequent selection, the listing is instantaneous. However, if you log out and in again, it's back to the delay while waiting for initial listings. None of this behavior happens in list or cover flow views, but column view is my routine, so I'd like to make it snappier.
I've gone through some basic troubleshooting steps (repairing permissions, checking Console and Activity Monitor) to no avail. I haven't run into this behavior on my 2-yr. old MBP, so I'm not sure what to look for. Any thoughts?

Get a utility such as TinkerTool System, Onyx, etc. that has a feature to remove all .DS_Store files. If they get corrupted this could cause the problem you describe. I would also consider disabling the View preference to Show Icon Preview. Use the Show View Options in the Finder's View menu. With Leopard you may need to do this for each new Finder window you open (press COMMAND-J to open the preference dialog for the active window.) Do the same for the Desktop. Show Icon Preview can slow down the content display in the Finder initially. Once the information is cached it displays much quicker. Hence the observation that you described.
It also may not hurt to delete the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist file in case there's problem with it. Then relaunch the Finder - open the task manager (COMMAND-OPTION-ESC,) select the Finder task and click on the Relaunch button.

  • History Items (Cover Flow) Quick Question

What's the maximum amount of history items that can be in the Cover Flow? Personally, I like most as possible.

I'm not sure. The most I've had in a single day (in my histories so far) is 144. May get up past that today. So that sets a lower limit on "how big", I guess.

  • Stop Cover Flow from enlarging?

    Hi,
Is there a way to disable Cover Flow from enlarging the view when you click and drag or expand the window in the Finder? I'd rather expand the list of items and keep the Cover Flow icons the same size.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Afraid it is a two step process: resize the window, then resize the CoverFlow section by dragging the little parallel lines at the bottom of the CoverFlow section upwards. You might send feedback to Apple suggesting that it would be better to have the CoverFlow section stay the size you set it when resize the window.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
I think what you want would be better than the current default behavior.

  • Missing Cove Flow & Quick Look from Finder once they went "up in smoke"

I installed Leopard today on my iMac and will messing around managed to loose both my Cover Flow and Quick Look icons in the Finder and can't find where they are on my computer (have looked everywhere including Applications). Anyone know how to retrieve them once they go "Up In Smoke"
    Thanks

I'm posting this image only so we are speaking about the same thing and are clear. If you drag the icon set back to the toolbar the items will not update? If so, please send Feedback to Apple about this problem.

  • Cover Flow ?'s

I have a Tiger G5 and for some reason only a few albums have cover flow. How do i get the cover flow re imported etc.

When you say only a few albums have cover flow I presume by that you mean that only a few albums have artwork to display in the cover flow view. iTunes will only fetch artwork for albums that are on sale in the iTunes Music Store (and sometimes even that doesn't work if the info tags aren't identical). If you have a lot of albums that are not available to iTunes because they are older, obscure or simply not at present licensed for sale in the store then iTunes won't add any artwork.
If the album artwork you want isn't available in the iTunes store you can add it manually, you just need to have the relevant image file. You'll get information on both methods at this link: iTunes for Mac - Adding artwork to songs and other items
I find this site is a good source of album artwork: CD/Album Cover Art Search from SlothRadio.
Another place for finding suitable artwork is to go to Amazon. You can also locate artwork using Google image search and put the artist or album name. Locate the album from any of those sources, right click (or Control - click) on the image, choose "save image to the desktop" and once it's there drag it to the iTunes artwork pane. Once you've added the artwork you can either delete the original file or keep it in a folder somewhere in case you need to use it again.
If you have a scanner you can create your own artwork files by scanning the CD cover itself, this is particularly useful when you are dealing with rare recordings.

  • Pasting cd cover in cover flow

When I find a CD cover in Google, for example, is there a way to copy it and paste directly in cover flow view?

Album art is dragged directly to the small album art window in the bottom left corner of iTunes. This automatically provides the art for both list view and cover flow. This method needs to be repeated for every individual song in an album.
To drag art directly for an entire album at once. Select all the songs in the album go to File>Get Info click yes for editing multiple entries and you will find in the pop up window an album art box. just drag the art directly into that box and it will automatically become the list view and the coverflow image for the entire album.
FYI some people have had trouble with art obtained via the 'Get Album Art' menu item not appearing on their iPod and I suspect that that method does not correctly write the files. Until an upgrade eliminates that problem I am manually dragging in album art for all albums.

  • Cover flow lion finder window

Horrible horrible horrible feature of Lion:
iPhoto is occupied iwth a large upload of images to flickr.
I want to review some more of the images I shot today in thumbnail to
open and start working on them in photoshop without waiting for iPhoto
to finish (this is reason #6099 why I do not let iPhoto control the
location of my photos on the drive, so I can access them without
    opening their specific iPhoto library).
I open the enclosing folder for the images, click to view by icon,
enlarge the icons, then click to sort the photos by date, and....COVER
FLOW!  they've Cover-Flow-ized the icon view when you do any kind of
    sort except by name.
I cannot say how much I hate cover flow--nausea-inducing for the
motion sickness prone, nasty vile scheme in general--and now, it's
dropped the images I can see in one glance at the screen in this icon
by date view of the finder window to ONE, and I can't turn it off.  I
do NOT have coverflow checked in view options.
Is there any way to kill coverflow completely in every place they've
    put it?
(Feedback already sent to apple, BTW, if you have this problem too, and there's no solution offered by one of the bright folks on this board, please send them some at apple.com/feedback--the place to put feedback for programs like finder that don't have a 'send feedback' menu item))

Support call gave the solution:  instead of 'Arrange by', use the 'clean up by' command under the view menu in Finder.  This does what arrange by used to, and while the menu options are more limited than 'arrange by', it doesn't default to the cover-flow behavior that is so irritating.
If you hate cover flow like I do, please send them feedback.  If enough of us complain about it, maybe they'll stop putting it all over the place.

  • How can i Display my images in cover flow view in Keynote?

I am working on a project .I am on Mavericks . I need to make a presentation of my project ideas . My project involves showing some images in cover flow view . So, is there any way i can show my images in cover flow view in keynote or pages app or by using any other app .

Keynote is an screen based presentation application
Pages is a page layout application for print output
Coverflow is a viewing option of the finder to look at the contents of a folder
To create a slideshow of your images, open Keynote and drag and drop images from a folder into the Navigator pane then press the play button

  • Cover Flow won't show JPG preview, only generic JPG icon

    Hello,
For some reasons, I don't see JPGs in Cover Flow mode. I can see them in Quick Finder no problem.
I tried the following and toggle the on/off the feature without success: Go to Finder, open a window, and click View>Show View Options. From there, CHECK "Show Item Preview," then click "Use as Defaults."
I exported photos from iPhoto into my desktop but I get the same result. Only generic jpg icon.
BTW, PDFs are fine, excel, word are all fine....
    Any idea?

    A reboot solved the problem.
I guess this is the workaround for now...

  • Cover flow dimensions

    Hi,
I'm using the "Cover Flow" view in finder and it has an option to turn on the "Dimensions" colum. Which is really handy for my work because it instantly shows the dimensions of all the image files in the window. However, I can only turn this on, in the sub folders of my "Pictures" folders. Does anybody know a hack or an option panel where I can use this for all my other documents besides my photos?
    Thanks in advance.

These settings are only avaialble if the contents of the current folder contain them in their metadata. For example, drag a few pictures containing "Dimension" information to a folder that does not have these options, and you will see the folder will now have these options. There is no hack to enable this feature. Ultimately it is always enabled but just limited on a per-folder basis by its applicability and relevance to the folder's contents.
