Dragging Layers from Photoshop

I've been LiveTracing a lot of things in illustrator lately, from layers that i prepare in photoshop cs4. for some reason, when i try to drag a layer from PS cs4 into illustrator cs4, nothing happens. this was working yesterday... don't know that i did anything new that might have affected the drag and drop-ness

I am not certain this is the problem but rather a problem of the limitation of the clip board size you can export from Photoshop.
Here try this make certain your document is the same color mode I did this in RGB, using the marquis tool I then made a selection of the background layer that was significantly smaller than the overall image and the copy and paste creating a new layer. I select the layer in the layers panel but drag the
the content of the layer from the document window in Illustrator and that worked.
Try to drag the full size  background layer or a duplicate of that layer yields no results. So I think you are trying to drag a ayer that is simply too big.

  • Disable info pop-up when dragging layers? (Photoshop CC)

There's a little box that pops up when dragging layers in Photoshop CC that shows the unit info (pixels/inches/etc.) when dragging a layer. I don't need it and I find it distracting. I can't find any options for disabling it. Are there any?

Yes there is, but make a note of this in case you need it enabled in the future. It's a HUD (Heads Up Display) that allows you to see the transformation values in front of you while adjusting without having to glance over to the same values in the Info Panel.
Edit menu > Preferences > Interface > Show Transformation values: Never
    will turn it off.

  • How to use layers from photoshop in final cut?

I am googling, but not coming up with much updated info. I would like to use layers from a Photoshop stills file within Final Cut. Any good tutorial videos out there?

may I use keyframes etcetera and eventually animate separate layers?
Ummmm .... yeah. That's the whole point of being able to open the PSD in its own Sequence. Each layer will be on a separate track so you can manipulate each layer individually. Wait ... I've said that already.

Try making it larger than you need it in Photoshop, and then resize it in iWeb. This will make it a clearer image.

  • Problems importing 3D layers from Photoshop

Hi, I am a public school teacher in Australia and we have a site licence for the Adobe Master Collection CS4 at school. I am having some problems importing 3D layers into After Effects from Photoshop.
Firstly, I have a computer in my office with exactly the same software, installed from the same source as the computers in my class room. They are all running Google SketchUp 8, Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4.
In my office I am able to export a 3D model from SketchUp using the KMZ format and open it using Photoshop. I can then save the file as a PSD file. I can't attach the file here as it is just over 2mb. When I import it into After Effects using the Photoshop Live 3D option I can rotate the model as normal and the elements appear as shown below.
When I try the exact same exercise in my class room (where the computers are all running exactly the same versions of Photoshop Extended CS4 and After Effects CS4) the model is imported as a 2D image with no ability to rotate or interact with the model. It appears that the camera and controller layers are missing from the timeline as well as the Solids folder from the Project pane as shown below.
I have been trying to figure out the difference for most of the day today and so far I cannot find any reason for this to occur, neither can I find anyone with a similar problem who has solved it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Mr Merrick

PS Live 3D requires hardware acceleration to work properly, that is in terms of OpenGL support being available in Photoshop on the machines in question. If that's not the case, the importer component won't function either as it uses the same routines.

  • I have just updated Photoshop Elements from 12.0 to 12.1 and I am now unable to drag layers from one file and drop them into another. Help!

I was able to do this until I updated. I need help fast as I need this feature to complete daily tasks for my job. I've come to a halt with my work because of this.
I have the two files open as shown below. I'm trying to insert the image in the file on the left to the file on the right but when I drag to drop into the file, it doesn't happen.
The cursor indicates it has picked up the image but it doesn't indicate that it can't be dropped, it just doesn't work. Help!!

Given that you're on XP, we'd better try the following document:

  • Drag layers from layers panel to document tab

On this page http://www.photoshopuser.com/cs5/cs5-features I have read that Adobe finally have implemented "Drag a layer from Layers panel to another open document tab". Is this true, cause I can't make it work? I can do that in floated windows interface but in tabed it's not possible (as in CS4).
Can somebody from Adobe confirm this please?

I had the same problem when I first got it....called tech support as I was used to minimizing the windows to add a new layer...drag...drop....simple with CS3.....then it seemed they were locked together.
I did the floating windows thing too....but, that seemed unreasonable on every layer....even though it says "all windows"...it didn't seem to work.  THEN, I found out that all you have to do is drag one layer apart from the other and then drag and drop!  I liked the old way better, but hey...it works!!!
    Sure hope this helps you!

  • How to animate adjustment layers from photoshop?

    Hi,
I am trying to animate an adjustment layer in Flash with Photoshop. The only way to describe the effect I'm looking for is if you apply an adjustment layer to an image/photoshop file (i.e. Hue/Saturation) and move the slide bar from one side to another. This effect works well with pictures that have multiple colors. I might be able to provide a video of this effect if my description is confusing.
    Regards,

  • Layers from Photoshop are black in Aperture

I export a pic to PSE, make some changes, select certain things, cut out some stuff, etc. I end up with a few layers. Then I save back into aperture as a psd file. The selected area put on another layer is now black.
I've tried reopening the files in PSE and there is only one layer. I must have a setting wrong when saving. Any ideas on how to properly save a .psd file so that the layers are preserved in Aperture?
I know how to do it as a work around, saving to desktop, importing to Aperture. Hoping I don't have to do that.
    Suggestions appreciated.

You need to check if you have Alpha channels in your PSD files, probably as a result of a saved mask. These do not display in Aperture. I think this is explained somewhere in the manual. If you don't need the alpha channels you have added delete them, and you should be OK.

  • Creating Buttons from Photoshop Layers

Hi, I am actually a designer trying to supply someone with a DVD menu template. They are using DVD Studio Pro.
I've sent the files as layered Photoshop .PSD files with the proper aspect ratio & size. The text that needs to be made into menu buttons I had converted to rasterized layers (as the type was originally layed out in a sepearate program, not Photoshop).
    - So you cannot convert type that has rasterized on it's own layer to a button?
    - Can 'Vector Smart Object' layers from Photosop CS2 be imported and used as buttons?
    - Can Shape Layers be used to make buttons?
    - If I absolutely have to redo all the type in Photoshop, anyone know how to properly handle the aspect ratio issue? The document is using DV (.9) aspect ratio, and the type does not appear correct when laying out in Photoshop. I have to apply a 90% horizontal scaling to make the type look the same as the rasterized type I brought in.
Thanks. I'm not too familiar with DVD authoring and even the whole pixel aspect ratio. Just trying to get the best files to people.

If they're using DVDSP 4 or above, YOU do not need to used the 0.9 aspect ratio when you make the file. Just use regular square pixels, but make sure that you're file is 640 x 480 NOT 720 x 480 (for 4:3 menus) or 720 x 404 (for 16:9 menus).
Any layer with filters should be flattened. All text and shapes should be rasterized as well.
    - So you cannot convert type that has rasterized on it's own layer to a button?
It can very easily be it's own button, and outline for a button just needs to be "drawn" around it. It sounds like your DVD person doesn't quite know what they're doing.
    - Can 'Vector Smart Object' layers from Photoshop CS2 be imported and used as buttons?
Yes, but make sure all vectors/shapes/test are rasterized and/or flattened to there own layer.
    - Can Shape Layers be used to make buttons?
    Yes. (See above.)
    Hope this helps.

  • Open as Smart Object as Layers in Photoshop?

I apologize if this has been addressed already, but I am looking for a way to open Smart Objects as LAYERS.  I do compositing work and would like to retain as much information as possible by using Smart Objects PRIOR to going into Photoshop.  My current workflow is to highlight the photos in Lightroom CC > Open as Smart Object in Photoshop CC > Manually Drag layers from each open file in Photoshop to main PSD.
Edit - Opening as Layers in Photoshop then applying the Camera Raw Filter is not a good work around, information is lost.

    davepinminn wrote:
I must still be doing something wrong here..............
You have the wrong expectation—namely because you don't grasp the concept. A smart object is not a linked file.  It's a new file all on its own (in PSB format) with no connection to the original file at all.
    davepinminn wrote:
…I can open my raw (.dng) into Photoshop as a smart object.  And in PS, I can open the smart object into ACR.  Works fine.  And I can change stuff.  For example, if I change the exposure from -.25 to +.20, it changes perfectly in PS, as I'd expect.  But, I'm still not getting the changes back to the original raw (.dng) file…
There is no reason why the changes made to a Smart Object oject should be refleftef to a totally unrelated file.
    davepinminn wrote:
…Do I need to do something different to get the changes back to the original file…
Yes. you have to go back to that original file and apply the changes directly to it.  In a previous post, Jeff Schewe told you of a shortcut to achieve that:
    Jeff Schewe wrote:
When you are in the Camera Raw SO with ACR open, go to the main flyout menu and select Export settings to XMP. This will write the new image settings from the SO to the xmp metadata. Then in Lightroom, select Read metadata from file in the main Metadata menu. That will bring in all the settings of the raw SO back into Lightroom. So, while not automatic, it's not as bad as writing down the settings and entering them by hand.

  • Adjustment Layers and Photoshop

Is it possible to import adjustment layers from Photoshop to use in a Premiere Pro CS6 timeline?  This could open up some options for color grading.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/importing-still-images.html
    excerpt:
    Import a layered Photoshop file
When you import a layered file saved in Photoshop file formats, you can choose how to import the layers in the Import Layered File dialog box.
    Note:
Some Photoshop layer attributes aren’t supported, such as special blending modes and the Knockout option. For best results, use basic transparency and opacity in Photoshop. Adobe Premiere Pro does support most Photoshop blending modes.
Premiere Pro imports attributes that were applied in the original file, including position, opacity, visibility, transparency (alpha channel), layer masks, adjustment layers, common layer effects, layer clipping paths, vector masks, and clipping groups. Photoshop exports a white background as opaque white, whereas it exports a checkerboard background as a transparent alpha channel when exporting to a format that supports alpha channels.
Importing layered Photoshop files makes it easy to use graphics created in Photoshop. When Premiere Pro imports Photoshop files as unmerged layers, each layer in the file becomes an individual clip in a bin. Each clip’s name consists of the layer name followed by the name of the file that contained it. Each layer is imported with the default duration you select for still images in Preferences.

  • Transparency copied from photoshop turning black

I have found some images I'm trying to get them into illustrator, however when i drag them from photoshop, or place them into illustrator directly, the transparency turns to black... it shows up find in photoshop, but when i drop it into illustrator it goes to black.. can't figure out how to get this to work. I've been noticing this with a number of images... the one that started it is this: http://opengameart.org/sites/default/files/iso-64x64-outside.png

thats becourse your image is a png and is in index color, just make your image RGB or CMYK (depending on the end result you want), save it as native photoshop and than link it in Illustrator
I agree with all of that except, “or CMYK.” Just convert to RGB. If the end result is for printing, let Illustrator handle the RGB > CMYK conversion.

  • Photoshop CS4 crashes when I drag layers

I received my brand new Macbook pro just the other day. I installed all of my old applications, including Photoshop, gearing up for a new web project. After working fine for a few days, Photoshop started crashing frequently. I found that the main culprit was when I tried to drag layers within a document. Dragging layers just sends Photoshop into a tizzy and causes a quick crash. Does anybody have any experience with this or know of any fixes?

It happened with me when I used to use elements 8, from the very 1st day after I got it from adobe website, so I found it was best to just save my work after each step. but not with photoshop

  • Drag & Drop or Duplicate layers from PSD to JPEG when creating action

    Hey everyone,
I have been trying the last few hours to create an instagram Polaroid action for my JPEG files.
I have the picture, and i have the PSD file with a few layers such as virulence gradient map etc...
When creating the action, first I drag all the layers from my PSD to the JPEG file. Problem is, every time when i finish recording the action, photoshop doesnt seem to know or understand the layers i moved.
It keeps running, without copying the layers.
I tried to do it the other way around - recording - opening the PSD - dragging the JPEG (which this time worked)
but then, when saving the file, it cant be saved as JPEG, because i last modified the psd file. and it will not work when doing batch because i opened specific JPEG when recording.
I have no problem saving the PSD as PNG, then just running it which will work fine.
But problem is when flattening, then i just lost the layers which create the effect.
    Any help?
    Thanks

    anyone?
