Dragging photos to the desktop problem

Hi, would anyone know why I can't suddenly drag my latest photos to the desktop, while the rest of my photos can be dragged just fine? thanks a lot

It's not a bug but probably a font problem.  iPhoto requires the Helvetica Neue font for it's operation.  So launch Font Book and make sure you have the  Helvetica Neue font.  If you have it, deactivate it, close Font Book, reopen font book, find the Helvetica Neue font and reactivate it.
Then launch iPhoto and try again.

  • Is there any way to drag photos from the desktop onto aperture like IPhoto?

    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe you are correct.
You need Previews enabled to drag images OUT of AP.
However, to drag images IN, I do not believe you need Previews enabled. Just drop them in the Project List Pane. I'm pretty sure this has worked since 1.0 - long before Previews.
I'll update this if I find my creeping senility has moved to the fast lane

  • I just got my first mac pro and I can't get the photos out of iPhotos moved on my hp external hard drive, I try export says unable, then I try to drag it from the desktop to the external hard drive but same problem. Thank you so much

How is your external drive formatted? Use Disk Utility to check the volume format. If it is NTFS, you will need to reformat the HDD as exFAT in order to retain universal compatibility (RW to it on both Mac and Windows).

  • Problem importing photos after the new Photos update:  When I drag photos from my desktop, why don't they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

When I drag photos from my desktop to the new Photos icon, they don't replace the previously imported photos in "Last Import".

After several attempts, I now find that this is working for me.  I wasn't able to open the IMPORT folder in Photos until I clicked on "Close" from File Menu. Once I was able to open the IMPORT folder and select the photos for import, the new photos appeared in "Last Import."

  • How can I drag a photo to the desktop

How can I drag a photo to the desktop

    Assuming you are using iPhoto....
You want to select the event that has the photo in it then click once on the photo so it is highlighted with a yellow ring around it and then click and drag it to the desktop.
If you are finding it difficult to move the file that way you can select the picture in iPhoto and select
File > Export (Command + Shift + E) and select how you want to export it (format) and where you want to put it .
    Hopefully this helps you.

  • Getting my photos onto the desktop and saving/printing some of them

I am having problems pulling a fair amount of my photos off iPhoto. Some of the photos in albums, I have no problem with. But with others, this is what happens: when I click on some photos to enlarge, I get a white screen, if I try to click and drag them onto the desktop, nothing happens, if I try to print them, the page comes out blank, I can not save them to a CD, I've tried and the CD burns but no photos are on it, if I take some of my albums and click on slide show, the screen goes black and there are no photos. I've tried a number of things I could think of but without success. Any ideas on how I can get my photos back. I'm lost and haven't a clue on what to do next

Start iPhoto while holding the shift+option keys. Don't release them until you're prompted to confirm the intent to rebuild the photo database. Click "Yes", then click "Save". Go make yourself a cup of tea.

  • Exporting photos to the desktop

I want to be able to email photos from the iphoto area and drag them to the desktop. Will they be gone from the iphoto area if I do this and will I have to drag them back to iphoto?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
My guess is that - somehow - the chess app has been made the default for viewing pic. To correct this, export a pic to the desktop, and then select it and go File -> Get Info
On the 'Open With' Pane Select Preview as the app, and then click on the 'Change All' button. This will make Preview the default app for viewig the pics.

  • I'm suddenly not able to drag certain photos to the desktop... Why?

I've been using iPhoto '08 (currently v. 7.1.5) for a few years and never had any issues until recently. Some photos I can drag to the desktop with no problem (old photos, recent imports, edited, it doesn't seem to matter). But some photos won't drag and drop -- I get the white circle with the slash through it. I can select the same photo and choose File>Export and that works fine. At the same time that issue started, I noticed another problem. I am sometimes not able to cut a photo from one event and paste it into another. Again, it is only affecting some photos (not all), and it doesn't seem to matter if they are old, new, edited, etc. I move photos in this way a LOT so this is really driving me crazy! I'm not sure if these issues are related, but it seems like they may be since they started at the same time. Any help would be appreciated. Please type slowly and use small words -- I only know enough to be a danger to my Mac. Thanks!

Not long after I posted my question, my hard drive completely failed. Needless to say, I didn't get a chance to try out your suggestion. Since I wasn't using Time Machine, it has taken my until just this month to get all my photos back into iPhoto. There were a few issues getting things back to normal (as far as recreating events and such), but so far I haven't had any problems with dragging photos where I want them. Not sure if it was the hard drive causing the issue to begin with or not. Either way, thanks for the info. If the problem comes back I will definitely give that a try.

  • Why is Finder opening new windows every time I drag a photo onto the desktop?

I've been having a couple of issues with my desktop (I am running 10.7.5):
    1. When I save a photo by dragging it onto my desktop, it opens a new Finder window. It's only started doing this today, and I haven't changed any of my Preferences. How can I turn this function off?
    2. I used to be able to drag a photo from my web browser to my desktop to save it. When it saved, it would stay where it was dragged. However, about a month ago, the files began snapping into rows rather than where I dragged them as well as piling up in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. How can I fix this so that they stay whereever I drag them when saving?
    Thanks!

    It's a bug in Chrome.

  • Dragging items to the desktop

When I drag a file onto my desktop (e.g. a jpeg from my internet browser), it doesn't appear where I drop it, but instead jumps to a seemingly random place on the desktop.
Why does this happen and is there a way to change it?
    Thanks!

Hello. I am having the same problem lately. When I drag an item to be saved onto the desktop, the icon appears on the right instead of where I intended it on the desktop. I don't know why this is happening now since I don't recall it being a problem before. I already have it set on "none" instead of "snap to grid" but it doesn't help. If someone has a solution, I thank you in advance.

  • IMovie won't let me drag photos into the project???

iMovie has never done this to me before. I have made several projects in the past year with no troubles. Now (after having to put a new HD in my iMac and reinstall my software) I have opened iMovie to make a new project and it's giving me trouble.
Basically, I can create a new project. I can create a Title card at the beginning of the project, I can even drag in one or two photos from iphoto, but no more than that. When I select 40 photos from an iphoto album and drag them to the stage, it says "importing photos", but the progress bar does not go any further than 10%, and I always have to force quit the program.
    Help?!

Also run Disk Utility and verify/repair permissions. Then verify the hard drive.
You may need something like Disk Warrior to repair your HDD or files. That's assuming that Disk Util has found a problem it can't fix (DU will tell you if it can't fix something).
Also try shutting everything down and unplugging all from the wall socket. Wait 30 seconds then plug back in again and reboot when your router LED is gren again.

  • Dragging images to the desktop copies image as .png instead of .jpg

I have nearly identical computers at home and work. Both are XP Pro, with Firefox 3.6.
When I drag an image out of a web page, onto the desktop, my home computer saves/names the image as a .jpg, but my work computer saves/names the image as .png.
I want my work computer to save/name the image as .jpg. How do I change it?

Do you get a real PNG file or a JPG file that has a .png file extension?

  • I CAN DRAG EMAILS TO THE DESKTOP, BUT CAN'T DRAG THEM BACK???

I recently had to fix my Mail by replacing the Mail folder and prefs, which worked like a charm. But first, I saved my 50 most recent emails from my IN, SENT, and JUNK boxes, by individually dragging and dropping them to my desktop.
Now that my Mail is fixed, I'd like to replace them. But dragging and dropping them anywhere on the Mail Viewer Window doesn't seem to work.
Does anyone know how I can get these individual emails back into the Mail application?
P.S. If I click on the individual files on my desktop, they open in email format (thank goodness). But I'd prefer storing them in the Mail app.

Try this - worked for me.
Double click on the desktop email so that it opens in Mail.
With the email open, select from the Mail Menu: Message>Move To>Inbox
Message should now appear in your Inbox as an Unopened message.
You could probably "Move To" other Mailboxes - I only tried moving it to the Inbox.
You can then delete the email file from your desktop.
