Dragging tabbed window leaves ghost?

OK, this is really more of an annoyance, but it's odd, and I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed it.
When I Cmd-open a window (to make it open in a new window, it goes to a tab. Normally this is fine, but if I'm sorting files from folder to folder, it's easier to have them side by side. But if I drag a tabbed window out, so as to make is a separate window, the drag preview (mini image of the window) gets left on my desktop. It's not clickable or selectable, and if I close all windows, the Finder doesn't recognize it as an open window. Here it is:
Has anyone else seen this, or know what causes it? I have noticed that Mavericks has some odd issues with desktop images (e.g. the Launchpad icon/dock prefs thing), but this is a new one.

Are you certain all of TotalFinder was removed? This program by Etresoft can help show what is loading: http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck
Here is the thread that implicated TotalFinder. Another person implicated XtraFinder.

You can check to see if it is third-party related by running in Safe Mode. If it works in Safe Mode, you have something running that is messing with it.

  • Preview windows leave ghosts when closed

When I close PDFs using Preview, about 5-10% of the time they do not fully close – they leave behind a gray "ghost" window that will not close.  If I quit Preview and re-start it, the zombie PDF re-opens (Yes, I have the re-open windows option checked and that's the behavior I want so please do not advise me to disable it).  I can then close the PDF without getting stuck with a ghost window.  Anyone else having this problem?  Anything I can do to avoid having to restart Preview whenever I want to close a PDF?

    Hi,
Does the issue only happen to Office files? and only those opened directly from Outlook client?
Please first try to update the graphics driver to the latest version and check result.
You might also want to switch to a non-Aero theme, restart the computer then switch back to a Aero theme and see if it helps.

  • Window Tabs: dragging the window tab to the desktop

Window Tabs: Tried to grab the top of the finder window and wound up dragging the window tab to the desktop.
This creates a mini-window have to logout to remove.
If you right click on the finder icon in the dock and select show all windows they are in the list selecting them seems to do nothing but return you to the desktop.
    What the heck is it?

Hi roninkai I'm also experiencing this behaviour, if you drag a finder window by its tab on to the desktop it creates a mini finder window that doesn't do anything. I keep doing it by mistake.
You can get rid of them by doing a  Force Quit on the Finder from the Apple menu, this quickly refreshes the desktop and then they disappear.
Hope they fix this in the next point release.
    Cheers

  • I can no longer click and drag Safari window to the other desktop.

I've tried merging all windows and minimizing that single window, then going to the other desktop to open up the window.  That doesn't work--it just opens on the original desktop.
When double-clicking on the Safari icon in the dock, the options for desktop appear (none, this desktop, and all desktops).  By clicking on all desktops I am able to go to the other desktop and see my Safari window there, then I can change the option to none again.
This is not how it worked before.  I'm supposed to be able to click and drag the window to the other desktop.
    Any ideas?
    Update:
I pulled one Safari tab out to create a separate window, opened Mission Control, then clicked on the Safari window and dragged it to the small image of the other desktop.
The window stayed in the other desktop and now the function of dragging Safari windows to other desktops has returned.

  • How do I change the data used by a Waveform graph dependent upon which tab window is active?

    Hi,
First I want to say thank you in advanced!!  Let me describe the situation a little bit.  My front panel VI (see attachment) has a tab control and on each tab window I have an intensity chart with a free-drag cursor.  Below the tab control window I am trying to display either the row or the column of data where the cursor is located, I can do this for each intensity chart individually.  I am trying to clean the block diagram up a little bit and instead of using 4 Waveform Graphs, I want to use only one, can the data that is displayed in the wave form graph is associated with which page is active on the Tab Control.  Can this be done?  And how can I do it?
    Thank you again,

Simply wire the tab terminal to a case structure that switches the data going to the graph terminal

  • Opening documents in separate (non-tabbed) windows

sorry about this simplistic question, but, how can documents be opened into their own separate window panes? Currently I have to drag each tabbed window out into empty space to establish a newly opened document in a separate window....can such a workflow be set as a default open file procedure?
    thanks

You might try resetting your prefs by launching Photoshop with command-option-shift pressed while you open PS. Confirm that you'd like your prefs reset. Then adjust them as Steve described (you might check off "enable floating doc window docking" for good measure) and see if this helps. If you're concerned about losing any vital prefs (not color setting, not actions, not brushes), you can Google where the pref files reside and make a duplicate before resetting them.
I just revisited this and I'll bet he's dragging them into the application frame directly, as opposed to the app icon. In this case, I think he's SOL. And it seems to me he wants his cake for eating. Application frame but separate windows? Sheesh.

  • Dragging a window maximises it

    I am running Windows 7 x64.
Recently, an issue has arisen where any time I drag a window (browser, windows explorer, office etc) the window will maximise.
THIS IS NOT AERO SNAP!!! This happens when I drag a minimised window into any part of the screen.
    Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/rtqc0PZ.png
In the screenshot, you will notice that there are 2 numbers on the screen, green and white. I am fairly sure that the white one is caused by my AMD Catalyst Software, but I have had this installed long before the issue started occurring.
The green number is new, and I am pretty sure its causing the problem, as it and this issue started happening at the same time.

  • Moving layers from one image to another in tabbed windows

I don't know if it's currently possible, but I've tried every which way.  But I have 8 adjustment layers I want to move from one image
to another in the tabbed window interface.  Once selected, COPY LAYERS is grayed out.  I tried to ALT + DRAG them to the image tab I wanted to move them to but it never focuses the tab and I cannot move the layers over.

Well if I knew the feature exists in one way or another, I wouldn't have posted it in the Feature Requests.  It was because it seemed to be absent that I did.
I enjoy a tab-less experience, however I abhor how PSCS5 handles non-tabbed documents in Windows 7 taskbar.  it opens a unique block for each open document you have.  So if I have 20 images open as I'm slicing up a design, I have 20 Photoshop CS5 blocks at the bottom.
I don't like the Windows 7 "Taskbar Grouping" because when you click on Photoshop, it doesn't just go to Photoshop like it should, it instead opens up a menu for you to then select Photoshop (and focus it as wanted) or select an open image.
These all seem to be steps backwards...

  • Every cut I make in the sequence window leaves one remaining frame from its deleted neighbor clip. How do I turn off this feature - It is driving me mad.

Every cut I make in the sequence window leaves one remaining frame from its deleted neighbor clip. How do I turn off this feature - It is driving me mad.

Here are 3 pictures detailing what I'm experiencing.
Picture 1; clip 1 tail frame.
Picture 2; clip 2 head frame.
Picture 3; clip 2 head frame is now tail frame of clip 1.
does this help describe what is happening? Basically every cut I make
leaves an unwanted frame as a ghost of the missing cut.

  • Is there a way to drag tabs like Chrome?

I recently migrated from Google Chrome to Firefox, and so far I like it. I want to be able to drag tabs like in Chrome but in Firefox, add-on or not. With Chrome, when you left click on a tab and move it vertically, the tab minimizes so that you can drag it into another instance of Chrome. However in Firefox, if I have two instances of Firefox running and want to take a tab into the other, when running fullscreen, you can't view the other instance. I tried looking for an add-on to the best of my ability but I had no luck.
    Chrome: http://i.imgur.com/sjZgDA5.jpg
    Firefox: http://i.imgur.com/llZ0EYn.png

Firefox does this sort of thing by default.
    Tabs will
    * '''drag from one window to another''' see additional notes under
*drag along the tab bar to another position
    * on to the desktop to create a shortcut
** but to do that you drag the icon from the location bar not the tab
    * open in a new window, to do that drag them down or use a right click option.
** note move to group option also from right click

    You say
''I have two instances of Firefox running and want to take a tab into the other, when running fullscreen, you can't view the other instance.''
I assume that you mean you have two separate Firefox windows open (slightly different from two instances of Firefox)
    # reduce the size if you wish to move tabs between the two windows
    # drag tabs from one to the '''tabs bar''' of the other, and insert it between or adjacent to an existing tab
    * note it is not possible to drag the last tab off a window. A window needs at least one tab (open a new blank tab as a workaround if you wish to move the last remaining tab)
Please post back with how you get on. It may be a little confusing using a new browser and I am not sure if I have explained the things you need to know or not.

  • Dragging tabs causes Safari to quit/SIMBL

For some reason, whenever I drag around tabs (such as dragging a single tab window into a two tab window to make a three tab window), Safari quits. I'm not sure why this is. It could be because I recently downloaded a few Safari add-ons, specifically these ones:
    http://safariaddons.com/en-US/safari/
but I got rid of all of them and I still have the problem. I also restarted the computer.
On a similar note, does anyone know how to use this add-on:
    http://hetima.com/safari/stand-e.html
    These are the steps given:
    - Install SIMBL 0.9.5 or later <http://culater.net/software/SIMBL/SIMBL.php>
    - Quit Safari.
    - move "SafariStand.bundle" into your SIMBL plugin folder.
    * Result path is "/Library/Application Support/SIMBL/Plugins/SafariStand.bundle".
However, after downloading SIMBL, the SIMBL folder under Application Support does not show up. Any ideas?

    Thank you Carolyn,
My machine is a late 2009 iMac, a replacement for another that had run Tiger. Some of the cruft I am dealing with was migrated over from that time.
Your reply, however, tells me that the problem is (probably) due to a conflict between the new version of Safari and some plug-in or extension for Safari 6.05 that I am using now. As for sending the "entire crash report" it is my ardent wish never to see one of those again.  The two restore sessions already done have increased the bulk of recent Time Machine data to the point that the earliest I have is less than a month old on an external HD that is much bigger than the internal drive.)
I might be willing to risk another update/crash if I could first reduce Safari 6.05 to the plain vanilla state that should update successfully.  Otherwise I will carry on until all the housekeeping is done and then update to Mavericks.  ....
(Long time out while this site did maintenance)  ....
I have now found lots of instructions for removing or disabling plugins or extensions.  I tried simply disabling from Safari > preferences > security > (or) extensions and Safari became quite unresponsive to the point that I could not seem to reply to this post.

  • Moving open windows leaves a trail across screen

When I drag a window over another window the first window leaves a trail and remnants of itself across the other window. It also appears that the second window us redrawing slowly. I've tried everything and nothing seems to fix this. A lenovo tech guy in Korea claims that with the B575 this is an unavoidable problem because the hardware cannot keep up so he advised that I turn off the "show window contents while dragging" option in the Advanced System Performance settings.
    1. I do not believe that the B575 hardware is not capable of refreshing the screen fast enough to allow this to happen
    2. This does solve the problem of seeing a series of trail remnants but I think its a cop out and avoids fixing the real issue.
    Any suggestions?
Brand new laptop had windows 7 home premium installed at the shop

Open task manager, check your processes, its very likely you have some nasty bloatware or whatnot eating CPU cycles up in the background. My B575 does not have this problem.

  • Why are there only 2 tiles on my new tab window, there were 9?

There doesn't seem to be any options to add additional tiles to the new tab window and when I drag a bookmarked site to the window, it does not stay there, it just opens the site

    Hello,
With the latest Firefox update, the number of tiles is now determined on screen size - if you zoom out or expand the window you can have more tiles appear.
If you want to set a fixed number of tiles, I believe you can do so with the following extension:
    * https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-tools/
You can also see '''jscher2000''''s Chosen Solution here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1025414
It requires the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/stylish/ Stylish] add-on but will automatically shrink the tiles on the page:

  • Opening file in a new tab/window

    Hi,
I have a form (HTML added through a widget) and a number of images on one page. I want each image to be a link to a file, where the images will be seen full quality. however, doing this takes visitors away from the page instead of opening a new tab/window - then clicking back means that the form data is lost - i.e. tickboxes are no longer ticked, etc.
I cannot use the photo viewing page included in iWeb, as the pictures will then overlap with my form because the enlarged images are loaded on the same page.
I hope this makes sense, and if anyone could help with opening files in new tab/window it would be great, or a way of opening a photo viewing platform in a separate tab/window directly from a click of one of the photos. I have seen other sites - http://www.aroundthebusch.com/Folio/London%20to%20Istanbul.html
(this is not mine) where the photo viewing "platform" is IDEAL. I would love something just like this if someone could advise.
i do not want the photos to link to an external page (which can be opened in a new window) as it would mean me creating separate pages for each picture, and linking them all... no way!
Also, it would obviously be preferable to be quick to set up, but also to change. I would need to have multiple pages of many photos, each with the viewing facilities so it could not take a long time to set up. I may also need to add/delete some photos, so if all the linking work was done automatically it would be fantastic.
    Any help much appreciated,
    Thanks in advance, James

If you open it in javascript and specify a height/width or location it should open in a new window.
    window.open("http://www.adobe.com", "_blank", "toolbar=yes, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes, top=500, left=500, width=400, height=400");

  • When I click on links in websites the links don't work unless I right click and choose open website in another tab/window. This is even a problem on the Firefox page.

When I try to open a link on any page/website Firefox does not open the link. It doesn't even "work" at opening the link, it just sits idling. I have to right click and choose "open link in new tab/window" in order for Firefox to open the link. It doesn't happen 100% of the time but happens especially if there is a button or picture that must be clicked. Simple text links seem to work more often then button or picture links. One example provided below. When you click on the "launch Jumpstart" button it will not open unless you right click & open new. This also happens from my Yahoo! Email account, on Facebook, Cructhfield.com and other websites with "button" related links.

I have the same problem but it appears that an add-on I'm using is causing the problem. Try opening Firefox in safe mode (which disables add-ons) Then try it. If that solves the problem, you need to disable all your add ons and enable them one by one to figure out which one(s) is causing the problem.
