Dragging the timeline down

I'm using Captivate 6 on a Windows machine and this may just be one of those differences between Cap4 and Cap6 but I thought that I would ask just in case. Is there a way to drag down on the timeline panel? In Cap4 I could drag up or down on the dividing line between the timeline panel and the stage and it would give me more or less stage accordingly. I found myself using this feature all the time. I'm not interested in undocking the timeline and I don't want it to disappear either. I just want to make adjustments to its height. Is there a way to do this? What is really weird is that it gives me a double headed arrow as if it is ready to let me do what I want but no luck when I actually go to perform the action. Can you please go to Window -- Workspace-- reset workspace and then try again.
As, I have been able to achieve it at my end. Also, you can make a Right Click on Timeline panel and choose minimize to minize it down which was done using the drop-down icon in Cp4.
Though there is a minimum size limitation and below which you cannot drop it down further to increase the stange size.

Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.
Open the DMG file and drag to Firefox program to the application folder on your hard drive.
You shouldn't double-click the Firefox application to run it from the disk image, but drag it out of the DMG folder instead.

Please right click on the clip in the project panel and select new sequence from clip option to create a sequence according to your clips.

Hi, my Hotmail and icloud mailboxes have disappeared underneath the menu bar. If I drag the screen down I can see them but they pop back up wheb I try to click on them. How do I fix this?

Well, in the end I contacted Apple and it was rather hit and miss but the problem was solved by deleteing the com.apple.mail.savedState file. It took them a bit of time to sort it out and I had to be promoted up the chain of support but it worked. Hope this is of use to others with the same problem,

Can't drag the timeline on to second screen

I have two screens and from time to time, depending on the job, drag out the sequence timeline right across both. It will no longer allow me to do this from the left hand screen. If I move the whole timeline over so it is on some of both screens and then click on to the RHS edge in order to extend it in the usual way it just snaps back to the left hand screen. I have had this happen spasmodically before but have always managed to get it extended although sometimes it shot back when I clicked near the edge. Now I cannot extend at all.
My guess is that I have a basic misunderstanding of the settings at work here.

Thanks for that _ I have discovered some useful settings that I didn't know existed but unfortunately the problem is unsolved. It's a bit of a mystery because I used to do it - perhaps I should try the old faithful of restarting ( which of course you do not have to do on Mac)!!

Is there a way to autoscroll the timeline?

Whenever the playhead reaches the right hand side of the timeline, the only way to keep it on screen is to manually drag the timeline to the left. I find this very annoying. Am I missing something here? Alternatively can I keep the playhead stationary and move the timeline under it?

I use a logitech mouse with a mouse wheel that responds to "wheel tilt" left or right. When I bump the wheel, the timeline scrolls if the mouse cursor is over the timeline (even if FCPX is not the "active" application!) It's a little tricky with actual playback keeping the playhead in view, but you get a feel for it after awhile and I'm not trying to click-drag-follow.
If you hold down the shift key and the right or left arrow keys, the timeline will autoscroll, but it's not actually playing, just skipping frames 10 at a time. It's a good way to "scan" through if you're looking for something specific.
J,K, and L work pretty well too, if you're not all that concerned with focusing on the timeline. The playhead always comes back into view when Play, FF, or Rewind stop.

Can't get the pages sidebar to scroll all the way down

If I'm using Acrobat 9, and I have the pages sidebar open, I am unable to scroll all the way down to the very last pages. For example, if I have the sidebar set so that each row has thumbnails for two pages, and the document has 51 pages, I can only drag the scrollbar down far enough to show page 50. I can access the last page, but I can't select the icon to, say, move it to another place in the document. Same thing if it is four pages wide and the document's lenght isn't a multiple of four: the sidebar doesn't want to show the last half-full row of pages. Any ideas what might be causing this?

I don't think there is any way to get FCP X to flag up what clips you have used.
You do of course have a list of everything in the timeline down the left hand side but it doesn't highlight duplications.

Smoother Scrolling in the Timeline?

Is there a setting that would allow me to scroll smoothly through the timeline when I drag the timeline indicator? As it is, when I drag it through the timeline it's very jumpy and lags behind the selection tool.

If you're playing the timeline, the timeline scroll bar at the bottom of the timeline window will lag. If you use the hand tool, it's much less choppy. If you have a mouse with a track ball instead of a scroll wheel, you can use that and it's much better than the scroll bar. If you have a tablet, you can set up the stylus to scroll sideways while holding one of the stylus buttons. That's what I use, and it's very smooth.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? If you have not already, be sure to update 12 to 12.1, using an opened project's Help Menu/Update.
But to the immediate questions, assuming Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit....
1. No, it is what it is. But, are you applying the same transition each time? If so, then highlight/select all the clips involved (all at one time), then Timeline Menu/Apply Default Transition will do just that for the highlighted/selected clips.
To highlight/select more than one clip at a time, hold down the Shift key of the computer main keyboard and then click on each clip that you want in the group selection
or
with your mouse cursor draw a rectangle around the clips that you want to select
2. Are you using the Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Expert workspace Pan and Zoom Tool? Or the pan or zoom presets under fx Effects/Presets/? With those you can do pan or zoom, not pan and zoom.
Or, are you in the Elements Organizer 12 Slideshow Editor using the pan and zoom effect there? Or, are you using keyframing the Motion Scale property for zoom and the Motion Position property for pan?
Are you asking about photos with landscape or portrait orientation?
The pan and zoom tool does one photo at a time.
Have you read the Adobe documentation on the Pan and Zoom Tool?

Moving a clip UP or DOWN several tracks in the timeline to REVEAL additional tracks

One thing I've always wondered but never asked here is if there's a way in Premiere to drag a clip up (or down) tracks and force the timeline to scroll up with the clip? In FCP as well as in Premiere, if you drag a clip within the timeline to the left or right beyond what is currently showing on the timeline, the timeline scrolls to the left or right almost like when you drag an app on your phone from one screen to the next...go to the edge and the page scrolls with you. But in Premiere (unlike FCP), if you try to move a clip up or down to a track that's outside of what is currently showing on the timeline, the timeline does not scroll up or down to show the additional tracks. Is there a preference or another way to enable this?
Many of my projects have 8 or 9 video and audio tracks BUT usually only around 4 or 5 video and audio tracks are showing at a time. If I needed to drag a clip from track #1 to track #8 I'd have to drag it up to an open area, drop it, scroll up (or down for audio) and then drag again to the open track #8. In FCP, the timeline would scroll up or down just like it does when you force a clip all the way left or all the way to the right.
Using a shortcut to move a track up or down does not work because it overwrites everything in its path and that's not what I want to do here. I'm hoping there's a preferece or some other way to enable this in Premiere.

I'm not aware of any user preference for this.
But, for situations like that, you can always temporarily fullscreen the sequence with the ` key, which will give you plenty of real estate to see everything, make the move, then restore back to normal with another tap of the ` key.

Why clip speed and pitch changes when I drag it from the browser to the timeline ?

In fcpx when I play the clip in the browser it is fine but when I drag and play the same clip in the time line the audio and video clip speed plays slow....and I can hear that weird wobble sound .....why is this happening.....? Kindly help.

1)I have already done that but in that timeline also with 25 fps specified the clips are playing slow ,leave aside the hay wire going clips....
2) when I extract exactly 2 seconds of clip from the browser, almost 48 frames ...the extracted clip in the timeline shows two or three extra frames ...that is may be because of the handles ?or some other issue
3)but when I make a new project/timeline with 25 frames ....and then add clips it works fine....
definately issue is with the framerate but I will have to begin from scratch of 300 files ...so do you think this already made and copy pasted sequence should work fine in the new timeline as you said ....as it is not working....and secondly does quality of video suffer if you bring it down from 25 to 23 frames in that case I will work all over again.......just waiting for your reply ...thank you.

FCP X crashes when dragging effects into the timeline

FCP X will crash when I try to drag an effect from the effects panel into the timeline. This happens for effects, transitions, titles - the lot.
The weird thing is, this only happens on some events, others are fine. Has anyone else experienced this and/or found a fix?

Unfortunately I can't get that far in the process to be able to answer your question.
The crash doesn't occur when I try to add a transition to a file or storyboard - it happens when I try to drag the transition outside of it's own panel.
As you can see in the screenshot, when the file being dragged touches the red line, FCP shuts down without warning.
Very confusing and annoying!

At times when dragging the vertical scroll bar my computer screen oscillates up and down for some time before going blank or not responding to any clicks requiring a forced system restart. What is wrong?

Suddenly while working with Firefox if I happen to drag the vertical scroll bar, a very abnormal behavior occurs. My screen dances up and down for a short time before either going black or getting restored but with no clicks working. The only way to resume is to force a restart of the system.
Any help would be deeply appreciated.

That didn't work. On trying to install a new driver I got the error the graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware. Is there anything else that can be done to at least prevent the hanging of the computer even if it means less features from Firefox being available?
