Draw line in illustrator cs2

hi,
i am new to adobe illustrator cs2.
is there any other method to draw line other than s
setEntirePath().
thanks in advance,

Hello David,
It sounds to me like you're witnessing the double edged sword of an incredibly sharp display. The contrast and clarity of LCD displays makes it very easy to see razor-thin lines with ultra fine definition, but this comes at a cost.
Font smoothing (a.k.a. font aliasing) is one example of where most LCDs are so sharp that most people prefer to have their text "fuzzed" up a little bit.
A one pixel wide diagonal line is another example that you've discovered - the display is so sharp that there is no blurring around the "steps" of the line. You can see every change in gradient, because as sharp as your CRT might've been, it was blurring the line just slightly - enough to enhance the illusion that your diagonal line was a line rather than a series of adjacent "steps". No software package that I know of has bothered to implement "line smoothing" yet, probably because you need the detail for accuracy when putting lines together.
Sort of related to this, big screen HDTV plasma and LCD monitors look amazing in the store when tuned to an HD station, but most people would be floored if they say how grainy and pixelated a standard cable signal looks on the same display. It's literally like watching an old VHS tape, because the display is so sharp it resolves detail that is invisible on a "lesser" display.
Neat human trick: get used to working with your LCD, and then go back to the CRT if you have a chance. How does the CRT look? I thought I needed glasses the first time I switched back!

  • Draw lines thinner than 1pt in CS2

    Hello everybody,
I want to draw lines thinner than 1pt with CS2. But Illustrator refuse to change the weight to 0.5 or any float number in the Stroke menu. Is there a way to fix that? This problem really drives me crazy.
    Thanks
Note: I'm running Illustrator on Windows Vista

OK, I finally found the issue. I have installed an English version of Illustrator on a French version of Vista. But French use a comma (",") for float numbers, not a point (ex: 0,5pt instead of 0.5pt). Illustrator is a bit confused by that since it proposes me weights of "0.5pt", "0.25pt" etc in the Stroke Menu. So, if I want to draw a line of "0.5pt", I need to explicitly write "0,5pt" as weight in the Stroke Menu.

  • How to edit a track/route in an image w/ Illustrator CS2

I have an aerial image in a .JPEG file which shows a  GPS track/route.  I would like to enhance/alter the appeareance of this track/route in the image file   using Illustrator CS2.  I have tried to manipulate the track/route using Photoshop CS2 but it does not seem to work very well, especially when trying to manipulate the track/route in the manner I wish.
For example, I would like to be able to select the entire track/route using Illustrator and then possibly increase the thickness of the track/route, change the color and most importantly be able to change the appearance of the track/route to appear as a dashed or dotted line.  I do not wish to change the size or shape of the track/route as it currently appears on the image.   Any suggestions on how to most efficiently achieve my desired goal(s) using Illustrator CS2?
See attached aerial image file which shows the GPS track/route.
    Thanks!
Using Illustrator and Photoshop CS2 on a Windows PC

Illustrator is not a jpg editor.
There are 2 things you can do....
Use Live Trace to trace the jpg then adjust the shapes for the track. My guess is this won't work well at all.
Use the pen tool and draw the path yourself. You can then completely adjust the path all you want.

  • Illustrator CS2 in Adobe Productions Studio.  What is going on here?

    Hi:
Finally getting around to learning Illustrator CS2. Using Total Training.  Immediate problem....supposedly if I hit "Browse New Extras" on the welcome screen its supposed to open up Bridge and take me directly to the folder.  But this link is broken.  When I hover over "Browse New Extras," I get a circle with a slash through, the international symbol for " this doesn't work."  I can navigate to the folder myself using Browse which does open up Bridge, but it is disturbing that the welcome screen link isn't working....leads me to believe there is something wrong with the installation...
In "Color Settings," BEST WORKFLOW was not available. I had to go out and locate the file and install it by hitting "Load" on the Color Settings Menu.  Seemed to load OK. But it says above it "Unsynchronized. Your Creative Suite applications are not synchronized for consistent color. To synchronize, select Suite Color Settings in Bridge."  Well, I opened Bridge, and there is no setting for "Suite Color Settings."  So I looked in the Bridge and nothing comes up for "Suite Color Settings." So I looked on-line (Google) and found an Adobe article and learned that I should be able to get to Suite Color Settings also by navigating to BRIDGE CENTER. Well I don't have that either, so I found another Adobe article that is entitled "Bridge Center is Missing from Adobe 1.0.X  and thought, hmmm, mine is CS2. But I checked the version number and its 1.0.4.6 (this came with Production Studio CS2) so I went ahead and modified the AdobeESDGlobalApps.xml file like it says to do. Restarted Bridge and hit ctrl-alt-shift like it says to do but nothing happens....no Reset Setting dialogue box appears like the article says it should so I repeated Step 6 several times and cannot get anything to happen. So I went manually into Reset settings but there is still no option for Bridge Center.
So now I am totally stumped.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave

I had a little success by changing the Color Options in Photoshop also to "Best Workflow."  Now at least the Color Options in Illustrator and Photoshop both say "Synchronized."  Opened BRIDGE and hit Ctrl-Alt-Shift and this time got a dialogue box. Checked "reset options" and closed.  But still no "Bridge Center" is showing up in Bridge...

  • Illustrator cs2 creates pdf with anomalies

I have Illustrator cs2 (12.0.1) and I create pdfs with it and send these to my clients for proofing. When I view the pdf in acrobat standard 6 it looks fine. When my sales people and clients view it in reader 8 they get a color break down that is incorrect. For example they see a color that should not be there (in the pdf below it is the blue cyan in the logo). So I need to figure out how to fix this problem. Also it does not happen on every pdf.
here is a link to a pdf
    www.ebfchurch.org/usb3.pdf
In the link is a pdf that has a problem, and a jpeg to show what it should look like.
When I save the pdf I have tried turning illustrator off ill. editing capabilities and saved as a V.7 pdf. Not sure what else to try besides making the logo a jpg. Would upgrading to reader 8 help? Would this add that to my selections in illustrator?
The other anomalies are I's and some lines becoming a dotted line. This one is rarer and is easy to fix (somewhat). I simply rotate the object by a super small portion that no one would notice.
    Thanks for any help.

Most likely some color separation or transparency flattening thing. Could also be the order of your groups/ shapes. Just hard to tell. For testing, I would save a PDF and do a preflight check in Acrobat or other such tool. This usually reveals any problematic stuff...

  • Problems with image after flattening transparency in illustrator cs2

Hi,Could someone please help me.Im using illustrator cs2 with windows xp.
The problem i have is that after flattening any image using transparency
masks or opacity i can see thin broken white lines in the image.
They appear where the opacity masks are,or where they cross in the image.
I haven't been using illustrator for long and am not sure if it's something
    i'm doing incorrectly or not.
Also if i select all the paths after flattening i can see double the paths
that were there before which run along the unsightly white lines in the image.
Please could someone shed some light on this,it's driving me crazy.
    Thanks, Cal

Hi,I spent weeks trying to sort it out. Apparently it's unavoidable. I read somewhere that the white lines wouldn't appear when printed but i saved one of the images as a jpg an the lines were clearly visible.
Its because when the transparency in the image goes through the flattening process to enable printing it breaks the image into atomic regions and the white lines are the gaps in between.
People seem to think it's completely normal and acceptable but i don't . I think it's a load of old rubbish.
The way round it is to use stuff that doesn't use transparency like the gradient mesh and all that.
I can't be bothered with all that so i just save the unflattened image as a large png or jpg file for printing.
I'm no expert but if the facility to use transparency is there surely it should save perfectly after flattening. The whole things a real pain.
    Take care , Cal

  • Illustrator CS2

HI all,  Please someone help.  When illustrator CS2 starts up there is an error message saying: Error loading Plugins. ADMEveParserCarbon.bundle.  It opens up okay but iam unable to set my document size or draw a rectangle or circle at a particular size... Iam also unable to save pdf files from illustrator?  anybody have any input on this, appreciate your response

Right Click (control click: if you don't have a 2 button mouse) on the Adobe Illustrator CS2 Application and choose show package Contents. Then open the Required folder, and you will see the file that the error is complaining about. You can compare the size to my CS3 install. If you have another working install then replace this file.
Also may be permissions related so run applications/utilities/Disk Utility and repair permissions.

  • Illustrator CS2 - Scripting Opportunities

Created a process in Visual Studio 2003 (VB.NET, Framework (v1.1.4322),Windows XP SP2) a few years ago to call a few Actions within Illustrator 10 to prep files for our internal customers. This process runs great and performs as expected. When I try running the process now utilizing Illustrator CS2 (12.0.1), the Application.DoScript () & Application.ActionIsRunning causes the following exception(s):
Errors : System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Unspecified error at System.RuntimeType.ForwardCallToInvokeMember(String memberName, BindingFlags flags, Object target, Int32[] aWrapperTypes, MessageData& msgData) at Illustrator.ApplicationClass.DoScript(String Action, String From, Object Dialogs) at GraphicFiles.clsProcessFiles.ProcessFiles() in clsProcessFiles.vb:line 278 - Code Section:2 - Running Action Scripts [Selected]
    OR
    Errors : System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80004005): Unspecified error at System.RuntimeType.ForwardCallToInvokeMember(String memberName, BindingFlags flags, Object target, Int32[] aWrapperTypes, MessageData& msgData) at Illustrator.ApplicationClass.get_ActionIsRunning() at GraphicFiles.clsProcessFiles.ProcessFiles() in clsProcessFiles.vb:line 291 - Code Section:2 - Running Action Scripts [Selected]
Is there a problem with the ScriptingSupport.aip file in CS2? I can run my Actions manually from the Action window but I continue to get the errors listed above outside of Illustrator. I tried Pausing the code for 8-10 seconds before checking the ActionIsRunning property but I still get errors. I also tried changing the Play Back options on the Actions and received the same results. Has anyone experienced this problem and have a solutions/workaround for this opportunity? Should I upgrade to CS3?
    Thanks

  • Problems with Illustrator CS2

Argh! Suspected problem with Illustrator CS2...
When I look in the Stroke/Fill boxes for colours, I have no options available to me. All that appears is this: http://www.ioimi.com/images/strokefill.jpg.
Is this normal? All I want to do is selected different colours for the line stroke and fill colour of something I have already drawn using the pen tool.
Also, how do I move or remove rulers once placed and why is it that if I use the arrow keys on the end of a line it moves it more than one pixel? How do I keep a line straight? It's so much easier in photoshop but I need to learn.
    Please help...
    Thank you!

That is not the Color palette, it is the Swatches palette. It's where pre-mixed colours, gradients, and patterns can be stored and quickly applied. The file you are using has no swatches.
You can add your own by loading swatches from any other Illustrator file or from the libraries that ship with Illustrator. You can also add a swatch by mixing a colour in the Color palette and either dragging the colour onto the Swatches palette or clicking one the New Swatch icon (The page icon next to the trash can).

  • Pixelated lines in illustration

    Hi,
I've made a technical drawing in Adobe Illustrator. I've used the PDF-format. Below I've inserted a screenshot of the PDF. The lines of the left hand & hammer are looking pixelated when I see the PDF on screen in Adobe Acrobat. When printed the lines are sharp. I want them to be sharp on screen also. What can I do?
    Thx,
    ief

    Buy a better screen?
Your view on the screen is limited (per definition) by its resolution. Computer programs try to fool the eye into seeing sharp lines by heavily blurring them with the surrounding pixels ("anti-aliasing"), and the idea is you shouldn't be seeing individual pixels.
Different software have different ways of drawing vector images, though, and different antialiasing algorithms -- there is not a "best" solution.
Apart from that, it's also possible your Acrobat settings are not optimal. Look in your preferences for a setting called "Smooth line art", and experiment with that to get the best results (for your screen only -- it's a user preference).

  • Can files created in Illustrator CS2 & CS2 Photoshop be opened and edited in later program version

I have a question I am hoping someone will answer for me. I am designing images in Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop CS2. They are saved as Jpegs and png files to be opened by clients in their image editing programs, using them to make digital scrapbook pages and and other projects. My clients will most likely be using recent versions of Photoshop Elements and/or recent versions of Photoshop. Will my files open fine in their more recent versions? I have been taught you can work forward (a file created in a old program version will open in a newer version) but not backward (a file created in Photoshop CS6 might not open in a older version of Photoshop). Is this correct? Also, is there anything I need to do to my files so they are compatible with current versions?
    Thank you!
    paper&glue

Yes. They can be opened in later versions or  older versions, because the formats you mention (.JPG and .PNG) are common raster image formats, not native application-specific formats (.ai or .psd).
Be aware, though, because they are both raster image formats, they are more germane to Photoshop than to Illustrator. Illustrator can't really "open" a PNG or a JPEG for editing the way you could edit them in Photoshop (or any other raster image program). Illustrator can import them into an Illustrator file, but that's not the same thing as being able to "open" them in Photoshop and perform local editing (selecting pixels, etc., etc.).
That's true even if the JPEG or PNG was exported from Illustrator. For example, you can draw artwork native to Illustrator using vector paths, and then export a rasterized image of it in JPEG or PNG format. But don't expect someone else using Illustrator to be able to open that JPEG or PNG and still have the native Illustrator paths. They won't.

  • Moving Illustrator CS2 Image to Photoshop CS5

I paint in Photoshop CS5, and move easily in the app. However, I'd like to use my copy of Illustrator CS2 to make a simplified base from a photo, move it to PShop, and work there on a painting. I can make (and print) the illustrator drawing, but cannot for the life of me figure how to move it into Photoshop. It's probably easy, but the one Illustrator book I own -- Morty Golding's -- assumes an acquaintance with Illustrator I do not have or need. Can you help?

  • Excel 2007 graph into Illustrator CS2

I have discovered an issue with Illustrator CS2 and Excel 2007...when I try to edit a graph in Illustrator (either by cutting and pasting or printing to a pdf and opening in Illustrator), all of the graph lines are no longer lines. They are individual shapes with fills instead of strokes. Does anyone know of a way of fixing this? I edit graphs for a living and this is a tragic discovery! I had no problems with Excel 2003. Would this problem go away if I upgraded to CS3?

Having the same problem with Illustrator CS3. All Excel 3D graph/chart are individual shapes. Looks horrible.
Don't have Office 2003 installed. So sure if it only an Excel 2007 issue.
No problem with Excel 2004 on the Mac.

  • Illustrator CS2 Printing Help - Epson R1900

    Hi there,
I've been printing to my Epson R1900 with no problems from  Illustrator CS2 from my Macbook for a year without a problem. I got a  new Macbook, only slightly newer than the last, reinstalled Illustrator,  and now my print quality is in the gutter. I've tried to adjust the  print settings, which I never had to do before, and it's still very  poor. What I am printing are just graphics I've drawn on-screen. No  images. In the Output section of Print Presets, I can't adjust anything  except Right Reading or Left Reading. Can anyone help? I don't know what  changed. All of the printer drivers are the same and are installed. The  strokes of lines look pixelated, as does the text. I know I could do  "Create Outlines" to sharpen it, but I never had to do that before, and I  want to be able to edit the text later.
    Hopefully someone can  help.
    Thank you for your time.
    Keli

You upgraded your OS as well and that is what has changed you will not be able to print from the epson R1900 with smooth curved lines or smooth paths.
Simply not possible in the newer OS above 10.5.
This is what you must do, Print from Acrobat or if you wish rasterize the art and print that.
Or save it a psd rasterized and print that from Photoshop.
    Or purchase a RIP software.
