Draw to illustrator

How do I get from Draw to Illustrator? I have Illustrator CS6 - will it be possible?

The Send-to-Illustrator button should appear on the share menu (which appears when you tap on the share icon in the top right of the sketch view) if you have a subscription to Illustrator CC.
If you tap and don't see the file open up in Illustrator on your desktop, try double-checking the following:
1) Make sure you have the latest version of Illustrator (v18.1.1) installed.
2) Make sure your "Creative Cloud" app is running on your desktop. If it is, you should see the Creative Cloud icon in your menu bar on the mac and in your taskbar on windows. This is the app that listens for the notifications from the Creative Cloud server and launches Illustrator in response.
3) Make sure that both the Creative Cloud app on your desktop and the Draw app on your iPad are both signed into the same Adobe ID.
4) Make sure that the time on your iPad is in sync with the time on your desktop. The notification from the iPad to the desktop is designed to expire in 24 hours, so if the times vary by more than that, the notification may not come through.
5) Try restarting the Creative Cloud app on your desktop.
6) Try signing out of the Draw app on the iPad and then signing back in. (You can sign out by tapping your Adobe ID in the settings panel.)
Hope that helps,

  • Issue with transferring from Adobe Illustrator Draw to Illustrator on the desktop

I am having trouble getting my Adobe Illustrator Draw files to Illustrator on the desktop.
Here is the error: "The file "Project-Drawing 1.draw" is in an unknown format and cannot be opened."
I have updated my Illustrator CC 2014 and signed in to my Adobe ID. It works fine going to Photoshop but not Illustrator. I want to take advantage of the vectors and layers so I need it to go to Illustrator.

This error message can occur if you have a mismatch of Adobe Draw and Illustrator CC. Double-check that you have the latest version of both. The latest version of Draw is 1.0.1, and the latest version of Illustrator is v18.1.1.
    Hope that helps,

  • When I open a Photoshop Elements drawing in Illustrator, it's much smaller

I've made a sketch in Photoshop Elements. The resolution was 743 by 663 pixels. I'm wanting to finish this in Illustrator, but when I open the same file (I have tried both PNG and PSD so far with the same results) in Illustrator, the image is extremely small, yet it says it is zoomed in 100%. In order for me to draw on this, it needs to be the same size that it looked like when it was opened in Photoshop. I understand the image is not actually resized, but the scale makes it appear smaller. And I also understand that illustrator's "pixels" measurments are incorrect (or so I have been told and observed)
I attempted simply rescaling the image myself with the select tool, but unfortunately I lose resolution and some of my sketch lines when I do this.
I'm not a master at any of these programs, so if you have an answer to how I could get the image scale to be "normal," please explain carefully. Thank you.

    It is simple math.
If you desire an image's width to take up, for instance, 6 lineal inches in AI, the math is:
    A 300 dpi image needs to be 1800 pixels in width: 300 x 6 = 1800
    A 72 dpi image needs to be only 432 pixels in width: 72 x 6 = 432
the blue top image is 1800 px in width @ 300 dpi
the green lower image is 432 px in width @ 72 dpi
Both were placed at 100% in size.
    Take care, Mike

  • Problem inserting graphics from line and draw to illustrator

    Hello everyone,
I had just installed Draw and Line (mobile apps) to my iPad and they both work fine, except when I am trying to insert projects toillustrator... Mind you that there is no problem with photoshop or saving in creativecloud.
I am getting an error that reads "The file "Project - Drawing.line" is an unknown file format and cannot be opened." I get the same messagewith drawwith the only difference that the.linebecomes.draw.
    I have found this thread:
Illustrator CC 2014 can't open files sent from Draw.
But does not help me at all as I suspect they are referring to iOS as my version is also 18.0 and I just updated everything and there is nothing new for illustrator. The only matter I could address would be to remove my old version of CS but I would prefer not to yet, as I see that sometimes there are bugs to newer versions and I do not want to be left without a working solution.
I am running windows 7 64bit and any help would be really appreciated.
    Kindest regards,
    Michael

    Dear Larry,
Thank you very much! That fixed both my problems. I would have never though about it.
Note for others, by logging out and in again I got like 9 updates that previous were not there, although I have updated everything like 3 hours ago.
Thanks once more Larry have a perfect evening!
    Kindest regards,
    Michael

  • Recreating a drawing on illustrator

I want to transfer one of my drawings onto the illustrator and make it a vector file so it can be engraved with a laser, does anyone know how to do this?
I have uploaded the image and trace image, where do i go from here?
    Frederica

Yes.  What I typically do is scan the drawing as a Grayscale .tiff > "Place" the .tiff oto a Layer in Illustrator > Create a second Layer for your drawing or redraw in Illustrator.  This requires a lot of fancy footwork using Illustrator's drawing tools, but is much faster and more accurate ( in my opinion ) than some sort of automated draw attempt in Illustrator.  Sometimes it depends on the artwork itself.  Hint: if you can, dim the Pllaced .tiff in its Layer options palette.  This helps your redraw lines show up better against the Grayscale background of the image.

  • An e-book on Perspective Drawing in Illustrator

    http://www.peachpit.com/store/product.aspx?isbn=0321733428
"Adobe Illustrator CS5 brings to users a hitherto new paradigm of vector  drawing - perspective or “3D-like” drawing. The scores of questions  asked by pre-release testers of Illustrator CS5 due to lack of  acquaintance with the terminology of perspective motivated the  authors—members of the Illustrator development team— to write this book ..."
"The book begins with describing the way perspective works in the real  world. Then the perspective drawing features in Illustrator CS5 are  introduced, beginning with working in Perspective View, followed by  lessons in drawing and creating and transforming shapes in perspective.  More advanced topics like moving objects in 3D and working with text and  symbols are covered next, and finally the authors walk the reader  through the construction of a simple scene. A Glossary and Appendices  (dealing with scripting) round out the book."

"Adobe Illustrator CS5 brings to users a hitherto new paradigm of vector  drawing - perspective or “3D-like” drawing.
Baloney. This is not a "new paradigm." AICS5's Perspective Grid feature is an almost direct replication of the FreeHand Perspective Grid which appeared in FreeHand years before Adobe's acquisition of Macromedia.
Which is fine--alot more stuff from FreeHand needs to be copied. I just hate it when AI devotees try to re-write history.

  • How do you separate vectors of a scanned in drawing to Illustrator CS6?

Hi! So i have drawn a cartoon picture of a man with a mustache. I have scanned in the picture and live traced and cleaned up the image in illustrator. It looks great! However, i now need to make the mustache a separate item from the rest of the drawing. How do separate the vectors so that i have a few pieces of the image instead of just one continuous whole image??

    Ah, Marisa.
In that case you will have to cut it loose.
I believe you may (Smart Guides are your friends):
    1) Create a path with a small Stroke Weight, preferably with a rather different Stroke Color (you may use red, magenta, or whatever far from black and white), across each transition where you want the moustache to end; it may be curved or straight, just custom make it so that it ends at the edges of the transition between moustache and the rest (Smart Guides will say path);
    2) With the path still selected, Object>Path>Divide Objects Below.
If you do that for each transition, you should end up with the moustache as a separate path.
It is past midnight here (more than an hour after midnight according to the dreadful summer time), so it is high time to attend to other duties, before the sun is up.

  • Using X,Y coordinates from file to draw in Illustrator

    Hello,
I am doing some clothes pattern making and I am interested in using a list of X,Y coordinates to create and label a set of points on the artboard.  I then wish to adjust for size changing only my XY list and get a changed shape?
Right now I have set the points up in excel and I transfer each point into Adobe Illustrator manually.  I would like to automate this.
Do you have any ideas how I might be able to do this?
    Thanks,
    Elizabeth.

can you post a screen shot? and include sample data from excel

  • Opening flash drawing in illustrator?

I drew an illustration for a local business in Flash using mostly the line tool. When I try to open it in illustrator, it acts as if it is not vector anymore, and when I try to do a live trace it looks terrible. I thought flash was vector? What am I doing wrong and how do I get it into a vector form without having to retrace the whole thing in illustrator.
    thank you!

You will need to downsave the file to an older version of Autocad or export it as a PDF or possibly an EPS.

    Hello again thread!
For anyone who might be interested / having this same issue - I just got off the phone with Adobe technical support and we spent a good half hour or so going through things - including a join.me session where the tech took control of my computer. Things he was looking for:
    1. Versions of the program up to date - check
    2. Reset my Adobe ID / log out and then back in to CC on computer and iPad - check
    2. On the same network - check (why that would have any bearing is confusing - I would hope that I could send these files from the road, etc)
    3. If I have Illustrator tied to any other (previous) computers - no & check
    4. Opened up my Library / Preferences - Had leftovers from previous Adobe Illustrator versions, he changed a filename in one of the older folders (when asked if removing the prior preference files would make a difference he said no)
    5. Had me leave the current network I was on and switch to another (used tethering on my iPad, still did not work)
During all of this, two different techs signed into my account and were able to successfully send from Draw to Illustrator on their computers. When they tried to do the same and send to mine, no luck.
At this point I was informed that they are going to continue looking at this, some other users have the same issue, and would get back to me when solved. When / if this works out I will repost

  • Drawing in Flash - V - Importing from Illustrator

Is there any advantages or disadvantages from creating vector artwork in Illustrator and then bringing it into Flash? or is it just better to do all drawings in flash?
I find it much easier to draw in Illustrator and then import the work into the flash library. Is it better to import the .ai file, or as an .eps? or something different?
    Thank you in advance.

That depends on what you want/need to do with the Illustrator file after you import it into Flash. Remember that Flash is a 72 ppi RGB application, so you need to set up your Illustrator file to these settings before you start or you will have to deal with the, usually awkward, translation that Flash performs on the file when it is imported.
If you will not be editing the Illustrator file, then you can just save it as an .ai file and import that into Flash. If you think that you will be editing the file, or will need to separate out layers from the Illustrator file in Flash, then Export from Illustrator to a Flash .swf. This will give you greater flexibility in Flash.

  • A marriage made in Heaven..Illustrator & Corel Draw.

    Just sayin...
Starting a new job over a year ago, I was forced to do production art in a program called Corel Draw. I was born and raised in Illustrator, and I love so many feature that Illustrator has but..... I have also learned Corel and usig it in print production some of the features just blow away Illustrators version. I got spoiled with the ease of use. Now that my company is trying to switch over to Illustrator we are getting very frustrated. I would love for Corel Draw and Illustrator to get married. Adobe please please please incorporate a tool like the following in next versions of Illustrator
Corels "Power Clip" Vs Illustrator "Clipping Masks"
Corel allows you to put things in a nice clean container. Even in outline view you can not see what is hidden in the power clip. With illustrator in outline view its like nothing was ever put into a clipping mask. I want clean... we put our own printers marks on manually and trying to see through all the scribble it tough.
Better Editing in Corels "Power Clip" Allows you to go in and edit anything from text, color etc. then escape back to your original View. Editing an Illustrator clipping mask is cumbersome to say the least. Lets make it simple please.
Corels "Transform Tools" Vs Illustrator transform tools....
Corels ease of use especially for "step and repeat" is unmached in Illustrator.. Corel is so easy while Illustrator is like driving a semi-truck. Its just plain old clunky!
Don't get me wrong I love Illustrator..... I just wish the two would get married and make the best of both worlds.
    Just sayin....

Would like to add Corel's ability to utilize blending modes from Phothsop layers (eg: so Photoshop drop shadows multiply rather than gradiate when placed on top of backgrounds in illustrator).
Illustrator is great, but more competition would be good for the graphics market, so we get the level of software development we had in the past. Where is Kai Krause, we need him.

  • Touch Screen Drawing With Adobe Illustrator And Photoshop

I've read that people have used the touch screen monitors of there home computers to draw in Illustrator.  Is this true?  If so what types of computers/monitors allow this?
Also any other devices?  I've heard of the Surface Pro and am still researching it.

I have the surface pro 3 I7 256GB device. It works great using the Adobe suite CC 2014. If no keyboard is connected then you can use the new touch interface in Illustrator. The pen that the surface has 256 pressure levels. Which is usually more than enough even in photoshop.
The touch interface is much larger than the normal interface making easier to see on the hyper resolution screen (2160x1440)
If you use the normal interface (which you will need to at times) I recommend a mouse so you can easily select buttons and menu items.
If you purchase a tablet and for any reason the pen does not work correctly or other defect, it is recommend to send it back for replacement. There have been some issues reported on the surface forum. But I do not know if these were early units or what. Just so you are aware.
The reason why you should use the surface over other tablet is because of the pressure sensitive pen. Photoshop for example can use the capacitive pens for accessing the interface but the brush tool requires a Wacom style pen.
To my knowledge most if not all tools in illustrator can use a capacitive pen.
Most features like zoom, move even the new straight rule/French curve work by using two fingers.
The best part of having a touch screen is the ability to see what you are drawing while you draw it.
