Drawbacks to iPod Touch iOS 5.1 for owners of 2nd/3rd Generation iPod users

I am the principal at a middle school and we have been investing in iPod touch technology. We have a cart of iPod touch units that are 2nd generation units. From what I have read they can not be upgraded to ios 5.1. Can you confirm that this is correct?
Second, and probably most important, we have been very happy with the iPod touches we have. Should I be really concerned that we only bought these units two years ago and they are already unable to accept the ios upgrade? What recommedations do you have to keep the units running in tip top shape for our students given the fact that they cannot utilize ios 5.1.

Second-generation iPod touch models cannot be upgraded past iOS 4.2.1. iOS 5.0 and 5.1 are both supported on 3rd-generation models.
I'm not sure what you are asking when you ask for recommendations to keep them in "tip top shape" in regards to the OS version. OS version won't make any difference when it comes to what students might be doing to the iPods to cause them to run in a less-than-optimal fashion. The only concern when it comes to OS version that I can think of is whether new apps that you would wish to run would require iOS 5 or later, something which is not yet common but which will become more so as time goes by.

So, my IPod touch is running 5.1.1 and is slow and sometimes unresponsive. According to Apple it will not update to iOS 6. It is a 32GB, 3rd Generation. What's the best cover for the new iPad (3rd generation). I've been told by a store employee (university bookstore) that there are problems with the magnetic covers on the newest iPad. Suggestions?
The best cover is the one that suites your needs. Try Google. There are dozens on the market.
As for the Apple Smart Cover, it does work with the new iPad. There are a few reported issues with it, but that doesn't come close to representing the totality of folks with it. -
I downloaded videos previously purchased for my ipod touch from my itunes account into my ipad 3. The music plays but not the video, only shows a picture from the video. How can I make play the actual video
Then look in the videos app. That is where music videos will play.

USB cable for i-pod nano 3rd generation
I recently bought a new i-pod 3rd gen and used my USB cable for the i-pod classic 80 GB which seemed to be working fine.But after when I tried to use the original USB cable for the i-pod nano it wouldn't connect to the i-pod.
Does anyone know whether it is OK to use the cable for the i-pod classic and why the original cable does not fit with my i-pod nano?can somebody help me?

What screen protector and case will you be buying for your new ipad (3rd generation)?

I'd like to know what types of cases people will be buying for their new ipad this coming Friday as well as what type of screen protector/body guard you'd recommend.
I've been looking online trying to find places that would be able to ship before Friday, but I'm not sure which one to go with, there's too many options! I'm definitely interested in a leather folio case though.
I've also been wondering what type of screen protector to put on. I've seen the iVisor anti-glare, and I really like how it works, but seriously... anti-glare on a retina display? I don't know... any thoughts on that or suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate it!!
Thanks!I had an anti-glare screen protector on my iPad 2 and it degraded the quality of the screen so much I removed it. I have a clear skin on the back, which I like. It prevents scratches to the aluminum back and provides a gripping surface to hold on to. The iPad itself was slippery so that extra grip factor helps me. I use a smart cover for the front, because I like the features it has and the quick removability when docking the iPad. I also like that it automatically sleeps and wakes the iPad thereby conserving power. I chose the polyurethane smart cover because I had heard many issues with the leather covers fading/losing color and I couldn't justify the $30.00 dollar difference in price. I dock my iPad into an iHome theater device regularly, so using a portfolio type case would be too cumbersome to deal with. I do think portfolio cases or the otter box cases provide more protection, but they add more bulk to the iPad than I care to deal with. In the end it comes down to personal preference based on your particular needs. The items I have listed and the reasons for them fit my needs, I'm sure others will have different configurations that are specific to their needs. Hope this helps,

I recently lost wifi capabilities on my 3rd generation ipod touch. I reset the network which did nothing so I did a complete reset. This actually removed the Safari icon off my itouch and still wifi is completely grayed-out. Has Apple removed the wifi capabilities to force the purchase of new items?
I find it completely disturbing that only recently has this become an issue for 3rd generation itouch users.
Can someone please help as I am exceptionally frustratedThis problem?

Look, the iviews are linked with querys in SAP BI. Some people publish the query in Portal and I have to asign it to end user. When that user works with the Portal, he can make views from iviews. These views are saved (the user can save) data that results of the execution of a query. The problem is that i can´t restrict the visualization of a view for owner creator only, i mean all user can view all views of other users and we want to restrict that. I have to remark that we have authorizations in BI for users and these users can´t see information that do not correspond.

I am using IOS 4.1 in Ipod touch. I would like to take my data back using icloud. I am not able to enable icloud in to my ipod touch. please help me for the same. Basically I am trying to take back to upgrade my ios to 5 or 6 version.
You can't back up to iCloud until you update to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to back up your iPod on your computer using iTunes. Update iTunes on your computer to the latest version, then connect your iPod to your computer, open iTunes, if iTunes give you a pop-up asking if you want to update your iPod, decline. Then click on the name of your iPod in iTunes, go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases to transfer any purchased media to your iTunes library. Next, go to the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings and click on Back Up Now to back up your iPod on your computer.
When it's done backing up, click on Check for Update (or Update) on the Summary tab of your iTunes sync settings. Allow your iPod to update, and leave it connected to your computer. At the end, it will restart and give you the option to restore to the iTunes backup you made earlier. Choose this option to restore your backup and sync your apps and other iTuens media to your phone.

Went to update apps on ipod touch IOS 4.2.1. I did a factory reset and now I can't get most of my apps back & can't download version 5.0 which I need to get back some of my apps. I paid for some of these. I've tried my backup and it didn't put them back on.
If your iPod Touch is too old for iOS 5 or later... there is not much you can do.
When/if you get a later model iDevice you will be able to Download Past Purchases using the Original ID that made those Purchases. (providing they are still supported by the Developer)

After updating to iOS 6 my iPod Touch 4th.Gen is virtually unusable ... does anyone know how to sue Apple since they gave no warning about iOS 6 being for iPad optimisation and a killer for iPods ? Before I throw away my iPod Touch does anyone know if Apple intends to rectify their obnoxious disregard for iPod users by issuing another 'upgrade' which will allow iPods to work without the constant system crashes that iOS 6 has caused ?

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

No, sorry. It's Only for the 5 gen. But you can always trade in your old iPod Touch into apple and use that money towards the new iPod Touch
