Drawing Aids palette

I would like to change the grid size on my drawing page. According to the help, I need to use the Drawing Aids palette. I'm supposed to be able to display it by double-clicking on the rules, but nothing displays.
What does the palette look like? And how else can you display it?

Here is a screenshot. It is usually anchored on the bottom left of the screen

  • Default drawing aids

    Hi!
Is there a way to define default drawing aids? For example, I would like a form to show a specific grid, with "snap to grid activated" and "snap to center of page" deactivated directly after it is created, without having to define that grid for that form. The reason is the sheer number of forms I'm dealing with (many fragments), and for each one I've got to define the grid from the beginning.
The other problem is that Livecycle Designer always seems to activate "snap to center of page" again some time after i deactivated it. This seems to happen when editing another document (without closing the current window) or when scrolling to annother page, or... I get it all the time. How do I prevent that?
    Regards,
    Jost

    Hi radzmar,
my problem is not to find the drawing aids dialog. It is to define default values for the drawing aids. For example: If I create a new document, I want the horizontal grid resolution to be 16/in, the vertical grid resolution to be 32/in, and "snap to grid" should be activated, all other "snap to"s deactivated. But in a new document, resolutions are both set to either 4/in or 8/in, "snap to grid" is deactivated, and "snap to center of page" is activated.
And since I've got lots of fragments, and a separate document for each, this really annoys me.
    Greetings,
    Jost

  • Drawing Aids: Gudline Sets

in the Drawing Aids window you can choose some Guideline sets (e.g. US Letter, Us-Legal).
How can I create own Guideline sets.
    Thank You for your help.

    Hi Paul,
    Thank you for your response.
So I can stop to search.

  • Why are guidelines behind images?

    Hello,
I have created a form with a master page that includes an image to serve as a page background. When I drag my guidelines onto the page, they go behind the image background. I have "Show Guidelines" checked in the Drawing Aids palette. Is there any way to force guidelines on top of objects and images?
    Thank you.

The desktop image is fine, taken from the exact same pool of jpg photos.  However, as soon as the slide show screen saver comes on, the images are scrambled.  What is it about the apple screen saver algorithm that scrambles the pics?

  • Moving an object using arrow keys

I think I changed  the default distance to move an object using the arrow keys from 1 Point (1/72 of an inch). Can someone help me with changing it back to the default or tell me how to adjust the distance you can move an object like a text field using the arrow keys. Thank you.

It's based on your grid Interval setting on the Drawing Aids palette. For a 1 point grid you would need an Interval of 12/pc (although it says points the grid measurement is picas, 12 points to the pica).
I find 1 point too fine, I use a grid of 4/pc (3 points) and have all my object measurements base around multiples of 3.

  • How do I free up the Guidelines?

    Hello,
I am designing a new form, and as I was fooling with the measurements for the guidelines in the Drawing Aids palette, I now cannot move any of them, whether they be vertical or horizontal.  My reasoning for trying to adjust the measurement was due to the need to have the guides move a shorter distance on the ruler so I could make my design work.  So I typed in measurements, and once I did, the guidelines froze up.  What did I do wrong here?  And how do I get this back to default?  Thanks guys.

I am sorry to seem so naive to this software, I am!  I had the (snap to grid) box checked.  Do I get credit for answering my own question?

  • Is it possible to create vector objects as compound shapes as you draw them (automatically)?

I'd like to start utilizing Illustrator more frequently for web and user interface design projects, but I still like taking everything into Photoshop for final rendering and compositing (and the simple fact that most developers want psds, not ai files). However, I find that the only way to successfully transfer all of the vector artwork from Illustrator and preserve it as vector objects in Photoshop (when exporting) is to manually convert every individual vector object in Illustrator to a Compound Shape (by selecting the shape and clicking Make Compound Shape from the Pathfinder palette menu). This can be very tedious if it has to be done after the design is complete, and very inefficient if you convert every object as you draw it.
Is there a way to set Illustrator to automatically create every vector object drawn as a Compound Shape without having to manually convert it?
A little background on this issue...
Adobe Illustrator allows you to export your Illustrator document as a Photoshop document. However, Compound Paths (not Compound Shapes - see this article for not-so-great explanations comparing the two) – which is the default attribute applied to all of Illustrator's basic vector objects – do not convert into vector objects when the exported document is opened in Photoshop. Rather, the vector objects drawn in Illustrator get flattened into raster layers in Photoshop, making them poor candidates for refining the design in Photoshop.

    Two possibilities:
Start with a simple Compound Shape and use it as the beginning of each new path:
Polygon Tool: Mousedown. Drag. Tap the down arrow key until you have a triangle. Mouseup.
White Pointer: Click one of the sides of the triangle. Delete. (Now you have a 2 segment open path.)
    Fill: Any color. Stroke: None.
Pathfinder palette flyout menu: Make Compound Shape.
Drag the path to just beyond the artboard origin (or some other convenient location).
    Copy.
Each time you begin a new path, start it by either doing a Paste (Ctrl V), or by AltDragging a copy of the original. Then start modifying the pasted path, which is already a Compound Shape.
    OR
Use an Action (macro) to apply the Make Compound Shape after you have drawn the paths:
Draw two paths. Select the first one.
    Actions palette: Start recording.
Pathfinder palette flyout menu>Make Compound Shape.
    Select>Next Object Above.
    Stop recording.
Now when you've finished a drawing:
Layers palette: Select the bottom object.
Actions palette: Repeatedly click the Action Run button (or put the palette in Button Mode and repeatedly click its button).
As with everything in Illustrator, caveats abound:
Why there's no loop command for Actions is beyond me. So if you want, you can duplicate the two steps in the Action, say, nine times so it will convert 10 paths per click.
Using the Action method, the Select>Next Object Above command will not jump between Layers. So if the paths are on various Layers, you'll have to manually do the bottom object select for each Layer.
As you probably know, if the Illustator Compound Shapes have strokes, not just fills, the resulting Photoshop Shape Layers have the paths, but loose the fills and strokes. So either method above works best if the Illustrator paths are filled and unstroked before converting to Compound Shapes.
Illustrator's Javascript considers a Compound Shape a PluginItem. So it's conceivable that one could script the conversion of a simple path to a Compound Shape by using the sendScriptMessage() method of the app object. But you'd have to know the appropriate parameters for the plugin, which I don't.
If only you could invoke an Action from an Illustrator Javascript, you could simply use a Javascript to intelligenty loop through the objects and run the Action for each...but that's another big "if only".

  • Are there plans to update livecycle designer to conform with the CC Family of Tools?

I am relatively new to using adobe LiveCycle Designer. I have to say it's a pretty great piece of software.  There are some things in it that really bother me though.
For example, you can't just drag guides from the rulers. There's no smart guides. The shortcuts that work in every other program don't work for LC.
The design is 1990 ish and a myriad of other small annoyances. I was just wondering if Adobe has plans to rework LCD to conform to the CC Family Standards.
Don't get me wrong LiveCycle is the only program in it's class and has been a tremendous help. I just feel it's not up to adobe standards.
Also, Where's the mac version? I've been having to run ES3 in VMWare due to the fact I only wanted LC Designer and not all the other phooey that comes with it.

    Hi,
Designer was initially a product from a company named JetForm which was acquired by Adobe in 2002 and its interface hasn't been changed that much by Adobe.
    Here some hints for you:
If you double click a ruler you'll be able to edit the Drawing Aids.
You can set snap to grid or to guideline etc.
In ES3 and newer you also can activate orientation by page center or other objects which is quite similar to the smart guides you may know from InDesign.
Draging guides from the rulers also works, but only from the upper left corner, not for every ruler separately.
From the Extras menu you also can create your own shortcuts.
There has never been a MAC version of Designer and I think there never be one.

  • [JS CS3/4] ScriptUI How to color a button ?

Is it a way to get a colored button in the ScriptUI DOM ?
    I tried
    dlg.button1.graphics.backgroundColor = dlg.button1.graphics.newBrush(dlg.button1.graphics.BrushType.SOLID_COLOR,[0.7,0.7,0.7],1);
But although the dialog is drawn, the button is not styled in best case, not visible in the worst case.
Is that possible to get a colored button ?
    Hope so.
Do you have any tip ?
    TIA
    Loic

I have tried in the past but not been able to color a button.
What I have been able to do is use the onDraw callback to print an image instead of the standard control.
You may want to try that.
Wish I could be of more help. Kasyan's correct, the docs are sketchy at best. The biggest hurdle is that some of the custom drawing functionality seems to be a bit brittle and prone to failure in some cases.
Below is an example of drawing an image in place of a dropdown list to make a poor mans' flyout menu.
    Regards
    Bob
// Ever wanted to embed an image file in a jsx file?
// below is a multi-step process for doing so. It's a little cumbersome but worth the bother at times when a script depends on
// a binary object, but there is no fail-safe way to ensure the binary is delivered or installed with the script (like this sample!)
         function myFileStringer( myFile ) {
              // read the image file

  • Extra Pages

I have a form with 2 master pages. Master page 1 is a title page and Master 2 is used for the remaining 7 pages.
When I view the form in Design mode or Preview there are an extra 2 pages. Page 3 and 9 are phantom pages - there should only be 8. They are both copies of one of the master pages.
How can I get rid of them?

Typically the content on one of the pages is too big to fit on your defined master pages, hence an extra page is created for the overflow. Make sure all objects are within the content area boundries as defined by the master pages. You can turn on Window/Drawing Aids/Show Object Boundaries to get a visual as to the size of each object. If there is anything the is on the page boundry (all sides) then ensure that it is inside of the page.

  • XY Chart - Connecting Points

    Post Author: apskhanna
CA Forum: Xcelsius and Live Office
It seems Xcelsius is unable to connect the points drawn using XY chart, unlike in Excel. This is a major limitation and I was wondering if any one knows how to acheive that directly or indirectly. I need to draw lines at an angle using a variable but am unable to because there are no drawing aids or possibilty of connecting points on the xy chart.

I currently face the same limitation and am really curious about any workarounds to display a trendline connecting the points of an XY Chart.
Thanks for any kind of help.

  • Changing view angle of 3D grid with existing objects

    Hello,
I am new to the perspective grid and would really appreciate some help. I have created a simple room interior with a 2 point perspective and a view angle of 45 degree. I would now like to display the same room with a view angle of 60 degree. Is it possible to change the view angle of the 3D with existing objects in it or do I have to re-create the room with a different view angle each time? I can change the numbers in the define perspective setting and the grid changes but the room doesn't seem to change with it.
    Thanks, Conny

NO. You fundamentally misunderstand. It's a drawing aid like any other guide, not a real 3D space. You need to draw from scratch.

  • Cannot View Guidelines

So I have "Show Guidelines" selected in the "Drawing Aids" pallette. And while I can set guidelines and can see their triangles on the rulers, the lines do not extend onto the page. I also haven't seen anyone else experiencing this problem. Any advice?
    Thanks!

Which version of VS are you using and which operating system are you on? This information would be helpful in uncovering what might be the problem. Thanks!
