"Drawing Failed" After Camera RAW 4.0
Hi,
After testing the trial version of Photoshop CS3, I've found that processing images through camera raw leads to odd behavior when watching them in Windows Picture And Fax Viewer (particularly when zooming in), it just says "Drawing Failed" but the image still shows when I either scroll in the picture or zoom out and then back in.
It also "removes"/hides the basic exif info when checked through Windows XP (Properties -> Summary), but it is still there when read from Photoshop's File info.
On the
Adobe Design Center video workshop website there is a brief video that will describe a few of the new controls. You will have to look for it in the Photoshop section of all the different videos that are listed. You might have to scroll to find one entitled, "Correcting lighting with Camera Raw." There are also a few short video tutorials available on the NAPP website.
Take a look here.

PSE 11 Activation Fails After Camera Raw Update - 12-14-12
I updated Camera Raw today (12-14-12) through the Adobe Software Updater. Now when I start PSE 11, I get a message that the software has exceeded its activation limit.
I chatted with "Ankish" who kindly reset the activation. It worked while I was online with him. I closed and restarted PSE 11 and there was no activation notice.
After the chat session, I rebooted the computer, and the same problem re-occurred. Upon startup, PSE 11 pops up a message that the software activation limit has been exceeded.
Let me be clear, I bought the application from Adobe, I have a valid license that was delivered from Adobe via email, the software has only ever been installed once, on this machine.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Here's the chat log:
Ankish: Thank you for confirming, please allow me a moment to search for the information.
Jim: I installed the adobe camera raw update today. Is that the cause of the problem?
Ankish: I have made the necessary changes to the license, now you will be able to activate the product. Please try
to activate the product now while I stay online.
Jim: ok. it activated. do I still have one activation left?
Ankish: Great! No Jim.
Jim: what was the porblem with the ser #?
Jim: problem
Ankish: Jim may be you uninstalled the product directly without deactivating it. In that case activation limit is
consumed.
Jim: no, it was never uninstalled.
Ankish: Have you installed it on more than two devices?
Jim: only on this one computer
Jim: only change was the installation of the camera raw update today by the adobe installer
Ankish: Jim then there may be a technical issue.
Jim: ?
Your chat transcript will be sent to [email protected] at the end of your chat.
Ankish: Jim may be due to some technical issue, this error occured. But as I am not trained on technical issue. I
will not be able to answer your query.Hi,
Is your problem resolved?
If not, can you please tell if Editor gets launched on your system? If it gets, kindly go to Help> Deactivate. If this option is highlighted. -

I loaded a .CR2 file (Canon EOS 350D) into Camera Raw 4, ajusted it, saved it with photoshop (not save for web). All EXIF datas are present but now, impossible to edit it (Author, Comments, Keywords). Windows try to save it, no error messages, but nothing is saved.
I tryed to change it with ExifFarm but it kill my .JPG file (after this the file size is 0kb) !
Have you got the same problem ?
CheersWhy TIFF and not .PSD, Jeff?
If you want to save a compressed edited file as a future master from which to derive other work, consider saving as a Photoshop native format .PSD file at 16 bits/channel color depth. The .PSD format has lossless compression, and certainly a lot of apps know how to open .PSD files.
You really proabably don't want to save a "developed" copy as a JPEG for use as input for further editing.
I have to ask, why save as another format at all? Camera Raw will open your file again with the same parameters as last time (it remembers them individually for each image). Why not just start afresh from your .CR2 file when you want to do further work? That's what I do.

Problem loading D610 files after Camera Raw 8.3
I recently purchased a D610. I am running PS CS6 and Lightroom 4.4. I have loaded Camera Raw and DNG Reader 8.3. The 610 files now open in Bridge and CS6 but Lightroom 4 doesnt recognize them. Is Lightroom 5 required for upgrade to 8.3 to open 610 files.
When you say you have loaded Camera Raw and DNG Reader 8.3, do you mean that you actually "installed" them? Actually, it isn't a DNG reader but a converter that is used to create DNG copies of raw files. It will be necessary for you to use it to convert your raw files in order for Lightroom 4 to be able to open them. The DNG converter does not automatically make it possible for earlier versions to read files from new cameras. The DNG converter is a standalone program that you will have to use outside of Lightroom to create your DNG files. Then you can import those files into Lightroom.

Sync starts iPhoto now as well as iTunes AFTER Camera Raw 2.3 Update
On November 5, 2008, I let software update install Apple's "Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update version 2.3 (4.3MB)". Now, plugging my iPod Touch (1G) into USB port on my MacBook Pro laptop causes iPhoto to start (and eventually the expected iTunes starts as well).
Prior to that upgrade, iPhoto did NOT start up when I plugged my iPod in. Prior to that upgrade, only iTunes started up (as expected).
Yes, I know there's a preference setting in iPhoto to tell it not to startup when a camera is plugged in. However, I think Apple should investigate and see if they've introduced a "bug" with this update.
By the way, I do NOT have synch of photos toggled on for the iPod. So, that doesn't explain this unexpected behavior of iPhoto starting up when the iPod is plugged into the USB port.I discovered that I accidentally took a picture of the iPod Touch's main screen (by doing Sleep+Home buttons at same time). This saved a picture (*.jpg?) on the iPod. Once I deleted this picture, then iPhoto stopped opening up whenever I connected the iPod to my MacBook Pro.
Thus, my problem was pilot error. -
Problems with layers after Camera RAW plug in installed
Hello all,
I am rather new to Photoshop, so please excuse what maybe an easy question, I have made a few images into black and white and added color to them in select parts. Not to long ago I downloaded the new Camera RAW plug in to work on NEF pics. Now I can not get the layers to work. For some reason it is not allowing me to remove the black and white layer and bring out the color. This is true in RAW-I get an Alpha Channel error if working in RAW or the brush will not work in the BW image saying it is not allowed on a layer?
What am I missing? I am thinking there is something really basic that I can not figure out. Any help is appreciated.
MikeThe Camera Raw plug-in is part of the original default Photoshop installation. If you downloaded a newer version, it should have replaced the original one. Where did you install it?
Layered files have absolutely nothing to do with Camera Raw.
However, you have not given us details and your description of your problem is far from clear. Please explain.

CS3 Bridge. OSX, after camera raw update- no scroll bar...
Half the contents of a directory run off the screen with no scroll bars. I only noticed because the last photo to the far right was cut in half. I select that photo, press right over and over- it selected 10 invisible photos before it ran over to the second row.
What EXACT version of Bridge? 2.1.1.9? What EXACT version of the OS? 10.5.2 or 10.4.11?
What have you tried to fix it so far? What routine maintenance do you perform on your machine? -
Opening Camera Raw - Windows XP
Sorry if this seems a bit too obvious a question!
I installed CS2 about 18 months ago, and never needed to use Camera Raw until now. I spent ages trying to find it on my computer, looking through photoshop, Bridge, Windows Explorer but just couldnt find it. I know I have it because updates are downloaded every so often for it.
Just to check I actually have Camera Raw, I searched in Explorer and it came up with:
- two .zip XML files the computer doesnt recognise and cant open
- An empty file folder
- An updater file (Prefetch)
- The application, Adobe\plug-ins\CS2\file formats\ which I when I click to open the computer says it does not know the file type (.8BI file type).
I've looked to downloading a update/file for it, but I dont see how the ones available will actually patch the programme so that it will work.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to open it?
Thanks for your help :)Laura,
you'll never launch Camera Raw---Photoshop does (or Bridge), as John just has explained. The latest Camera Raw version you can use with Photoshop CS2 is 3.7. To use any later versions, you'd need to upgrade to Photoshop CS3.
If you have raw files from digital cameras that aren't supported by Camera Raw 3.7 (i. e. cameras that came to market after Camera Raw 3.7 was released) then use the current version of Adobe DNG Converter to convert the raw files into DNG format, then use Camera Raw 3.7 to process the DNG files. Adobe DNG Converter is a little stand-alone program (not a plug-in) that you can download free of charge from Adobe's website.

"Unable to save the raw conversion settings. There was an error parsing the file."
This error message has begun to appear frequently when after working on old (3-4 yrs old) jpeg files. No problem opening the files, but clicking "Done" brings up the error message (and, of course, the changes are not saved.) Some files in a folder are fine; others get this error. I see no obvious difference between the files. I've tried making a duplicate of the file and working on that. Sometimes that works, but usually not.
Is there some way to fix this problem when it occurs? I'd appreciate any ideas. (Using Photoshop CS5 and Windows 7.)First, let me say that you might get more direct answers by posting into the Camera Raw forum:
http://forums.adobe.com/community/cameraraw
They may ask you for a file with which to reproduce the problem.
Out of curiosity, did you open these JPEG files at some point in the past using an older version of Camera Raw? Assuming you did, keep in mind that Camera Raw writes metadata back into JPEG files when you open them, even if you never direct the software to save back to the original JPEG file. Put simply, an "original" JPEG file is no longer original after Camera Raw has been used on it. Yes, it's hard to believe.
If I'm on the right track here, it sounds as though not only did it write data back into the file, but now perhaps the new version can't quite make sense of what the older version wrote.
I have an open thread in the Camera Raw forum in which I am requesting that this behavior (writing data back to the input file) be made optional. Please feel free to add to it if that's what's happened to you.

Camera Raw 7.3 Update replaced Photoshop CS6 Standard with CS6 Extended Trial version
How do I get back to Photoshop CS6 Standard edition after Camera Raw 7.3 update?
After installing the Camera Raw update photoshop now runs as the Trial version of Photoshop Extended.I upgraded CS6 and Lightroom 4 today and then when restarting Photoshop CS6 this evening I get a dialog about registering with my e-mail for Photoshop Extended Edition Trial.
I have never owned the Extended edition and did the update from my existing product using the Adobe Update manager. There should have been no reason for this mistake to occur.
I've done upgrades like this many, many times before and have never had my system react this way. You clearly have a bug in your update process and should fix it pronto. Do you know how confusing it is to get a dialog like this? Should I let it register me for a product I don't own? Is that going to somehow trash my legitimate license (now there's the process of activation, I'm always concerned that I'll mess things up and end up unable to use Photoshop until support can help me out)
I'll go find my serial number and re-enter it, but I think this is a serious bug - and will make me much more cautious about waiting to apply updates until I've read the forums to make sure it's safe to do so -
After reinstalling CS6 the bridge photo downloader isn't able to read raw files and fails to convert the raw files to DNG. Previously downloaded raw files, now DNG, open up successfully in Camera Raw 7. How do I get the photo downloader to read and convert raw files. MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard. No such problem before this reinstallation.
You should install Camera Raw 4.6.

Camera Raw 6.7 fails to update, even after manual install?
Whenever I run the check for updates in Photoshop (CS5), it tells me I need to update Camera Raw to 6.7. However, when I try, I get this message:
Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 Update
There was an error downloading this update. Please quit and try again later.
I am running Mavericks (OSX 10.9.5). I downloaded the files for 6.7 and 6.7.1 and installed them manually. When I look in Photoshop (12.0.4) > About Plug-In > Camera Raw.. it says it is version 6.7.1. My logs also show that I updated to both 6.7 and 6.7.1. (Photoshop Camera Raw 6.7 09-28-2014.log.gz and 6.7.1 09-28-2014.log.gz)
What email address can I send my logs to to help me figure this out??Thanks for responding! I know ACR is now updated as much as it can be. But whenever I check for updates, the Adobe updater program tells me I need to update ACR, but then gives me errors. I know I can just disable checking for updates for just ACR, but I'd like to fix it if there's a problem, not just cover it up.
