Drawing InDesign objects on a extension panel

hi all,
I'm trying to develop an InDesign extension using the Extension Builder 2.1 – unfortunately I am almost completely new to the whole topic.
I was wondering if it's possible to draw objects, lets say a rectangle or a vector shape from an opened InDesign document to the panel. Actually it doesn't sound like a difficult task but anyway I'm a lost. I would appreciate any hint where to look for that concern.
Thanks for helping!

Hi,
Since you're new to the topic, I would start here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/extensionbuilder3/ (use Extension Builder 3, not 2.1).
Also, read this: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/creativesuite/articles/introducing-html5-extensions.html

  • InDesign - CS Extension panel icons

    Hi!
    I'm experiencing the very strange issue - the icons for my extension panel are not displayed at all in InDesign - unless I rename them to Kuler's icons:
    PP_kulerIcon_R.png & PP_kulerIcon_N.png. If I rename them to, for example, to PP_kulerIcon1_R.png & PP_kulerIcon_N.png - in rollover state instead of my icon, the default "folder with a brick" icon will be displayed (instead of PP_kulerIcon1_R.png).
    There's no such problem in Photoshop or Illustrator - in these programs the extension icon is being displayed correctly.
    Only in InDesign. I install the extension from Extension Manager and specify icons with
                <Icon Type="Normal">./PP_kulerIcon1_N.png</Icon>
                <Icon Type="RollOver">./PP_kulerIcon_R.png</Icon>
    Is it a bug, or is it a bug in my eyes?
    Thank you

    Trash your prefs.
    It looks to me like icons or changed menu positions do not show until prefs are trashed...

  • How do i minimize an indesign extension panel?

    i have tried using NativeWindow's minimize method but it seems to just minimize the AIR app frame within the extension panel frame.  what i am hoping to achieve is to mimic what happens when the user clicks on the '>>' arrows in the upper corner of the extension panel frame from within the extension...  any ideas?

    Nope.  In windowed view that's just the way it works now.  It takes advantage of the new Windows features, such as Taskbar Live Previews.
    Note that if you use Tabbed view (opposed to opening new documents in windows) you will find that it does not do this, but that the tabs all remain on the display and you can move through them.
    Switching from windowed view to tabbed view takes some getting used to.  I was once a die-hard windowed view user, then was forced to use tabbed view for a while to work around a plug-in bug.  I found it grew on me.  I suggest you try it for a while.

  • Path to the extension panel's directory from ExtendScript .jsx

    Hi!
    Is there a way to get the path to extension panel's folder from the external (or embedded) .jsx script?
    Both $.fileName and  "catch( err ) {  where = File(err.fileName); }" return the path to "Adobe Photoshop CS5".
    Thank you!

    I read the original post wrong.
    This is the function I use for InDesign scripts:
    getScriptsFolder = function() {
        try {
            var script = app.activeScript;
            return new Folder( script.parent.parent );
        } catch(e) {
            // we are running from the ESTK
            var script = File(e.fileName);
            var a = script.absoluteURI.split( "/" );
            var a1 = [];
            for ( var i = 0; i < a.length; i++ ) {
                a1.push( a[ i ] );
                if ( a[ i ] == "Scripts" ) {
                    a1.push( a[ i + 1 ] );
                    break;
            return new Folder( a1.join( "/" ) );
    Running as a script in ID, it'll just return the scripts folder. But, if that line errors, ES error objects contain a reference to the script File.
    I don't know if this will work in the context of a CS Extension panel or not, but it's certainly worth a try.

  • Illustrator CS6 loses keyboard focus when using an extension panel

    OS10.8.2 CS6. When clicking a button on any extension panel (even supplied Kuler), it seems that Illustrator can't get keyboard focus until something else on the screen is clicked. Anyone know a way to fix this? I need to be able to use the keyboard to copy or delete a selected object right after running script....
    Tried running a javascript inline with app.activate() command. Didn't work. Help!!!!

    I noticed the problem too. Is there any fix or workaround? Friends using Windows say that all is ok.

  • LCDS Session Management using an Extension Panel

    We have an app that executes in an extension panel(InDesign) using both amf and rtmp calls.  The lcds server then makes rpc calls to an app which returns the data to InDesign.  How do you manage the sessions so that each individual user gets their own session per instance of the app.  All of the examples I have found are using javascript to call the disconnects etc.  Since the app is using an extension panel and not a webpage/browser those examples won't work.

    correct session management is configured at the web-app level in web.xml and
    weblogic.xml

  • Sign in with indesign CS6 in folio builder panel

    hi! I can't sign in with indesign CS6 in folio builder panel. what can a i do?? I can sign in from adobe web page, but not from indesign, and the option "updates" from "Help" menu is deactivated

    I found one way to fix it:
    - quit all CS6 apps
    - if in OSX force quit the CS6ServiceManager via Activity Monitor app
    - go to the User Library (hold down option key while accessing the Go menu) and find these:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS6ServiceManager/preference/csxs3.pref  - move this file out to desktop
    Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE/opm.db - move this file out to desktop
    zip these up and delete the original, you now have inaccessible copies to put back just in case but have found this unnecessary.
    - Restart Indesign and log in should now hold.
    Found this started to happen after updating to 10.9.2, on a number of our designers machines.

  • Extensions Panel greyed out in Photoshop CC on a Mac. Can't open Mini Bridge

    I've just (yesterday) joined the Adobe Cloud, with full access to all the Adobe programs.
    Opening Photoshop, I also wanted Mini Bridge open but the 'Extensions' item on the 'Window' menu is greyed out and can't be selected.
    I've tried opening Bridge first, the Photoshop and vice versa, either way, the problem is the same. I've checked the Photoshop Preferences under 'Plug Ins' and made sure 'Load Extensions Panel' was ticked (which it was originally)
    So, basically, no matter what I try, the Extensions Panel seems to remain greyed out.
    Can any of you good people come up with the reason why this is happening and how I can solve i please?
    Many thanks in advance
    Steve

    My main plug-in (resize 8) is not yet compatible, and so PS thinks there are no extensions, hence it's greyed out. but it took several days of troubleshooting to find this out.
    If your resize 8 plug-in is from onOne then you need to install version 8.5.1 for the plug-ins to be available through extensions.  Even before the 8.5.1 update to the suite the resize 8 plug-in was available via the File->Automate... menu item after a re-install of the suite so it detected CC 2014.

  • How do I print to a postscript file with InDesign CS6 without both extensions, .indd.ps?

    How do I print to a postscript file without an .indd extension in InDesign CS6? I choose Print, choose a print preset from my print shop and Save. The first time I tried it was blank (the Hide Extension was checked), so I tried to save and got a dialog box that said it cannot be saved as an .indd file (duh), to choose both or .ps. I chose .ps and it was fine, but every time I postscripted it gave me this dialog box until I unchecked Hide Extension. After I did that, every time I postscript it automatically saves both extensions. Not a big deal but it is annoying. I just want it to end with .ps like it used to. Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks!!

    I have no idea but I am incredibly curious...why are you doing this?
    Printing to postscript is a completely archaic workflow. Export to PDF
    instead.

  • Open file dialogue hangs with extension panels

    Hi. I have PS CS5 64 bit running on a PC, Win 7.
    Everything has been working fine but I have recently installed two new extension panels - Fundy Image Brander and Tych Panel. When either of these scripts require you to input a file to open via the Open File dialogue box, everything hangs for 2-3 minutes. The mouse and keyboard do not lock and you can open up other windows which work fine. The open file dialogue just hangs (not just on selecting an individual image but selecting a drive or folder). If you call up the Task Manager and End Photoshop as a task a dialogue box pops up with the mesage "The system cannot end this program because it is waiting for a response from you."
    Photoshop otherwise works well. It's just when the extension panel requires you to input a file to open. Has anyone else encountered this problem or has any ideas?

    Hi. Both are extension panels. Fundy Image Brander is a paid for extension (http://www.fundysoftware.com/image-brander/) and the other a free extension (http://lumens.se/tychpanel/).
    I have seven extension panels running and these are the only two that require the user to set file input locations.
    Photoshop otherwise works just fine and I have no problems opening files. Other Windows programs also run without any problems. It's just these two that hang when the select or open file dialogue appears.
    And no I haven't contacted the producers.

  • Resizing Extension Panel does not layout Flex controls at all, simply scales stage

    Hello,
    I'm having this issue with Extension Panels in Fireworks compiled with the Flex 4 SDK. When the panel is first opened, it has the correct dimensions and controls are laid out correctly. If I resize it at all, it scales itself instead of laying out it's controls to take advantage of the new space. This doesn't seem to occur when using Flex 3's mx:Application, only Flex 4. Any ideas?
    Before Resize:
    After Resize:
    This occurs no matter the Application container control I use - mx:Application, mx:ApplicationWindow, cs:CSXSWindowedApplication, and so on.
    My Application MXML is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <cs:CSXSWindowedApplication
      xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
      xmlns:cs="com.adobe.csxs.core.*" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
      <!-- Setting width & height are the only way I can get it to show properly when first opened. -->
      width="200" height="200" historyManagementEnabled="false" showStatusBar="false">
      <s:Button label="Click Me" />
    </cs:CSXSWindowedApplication>

    So they key is apparently to have this as a compiler flag:
    -includes=mx.managers.systemClasses.MarshallingSupport
    And in applicationComplete:
    CSInterface.instance.autoThemeColorChange = true;
    Also use CSExtension as your base application class/component.

  • EEWB :  how to determine the business object and the extension type ?

    Hi,
    I ask myself how to determine the business object and the extension type to use to add new fields in a new tab of a specific transaction ? what means each business object, does that correspond to a specific transaction ?
    I need to add a new tab in the ‘BaMI’ business activity in transaction CRMD_ORDER just after the tab 'Actions' at header level.
    Could you help me please to determine which business object and extension type I have to select during creation of the project and which business object category I have to select during creation of the extension (wizard) ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Marie

    Marie,
    In order to determine what type of transaction you are extending, you will need to look at the customizing for the transaction.
    In the IMG:
    Goto:
    Customer Relationship Management->Transactions->Basic Settings->Define Transaction Types.
    You will then choose the transaction defined that you want to extend.  If you display the details of the transaction you will find an attribute called:
    "Leading Transaction Category".  This tells you the general context in which the transaction is used.  The other item to view is the assignment of business transaction categories found in the maintenance screen.
    This information general corresponds to one of the options that the EEWB will give you on the transaction type.
    As far as extensions go, my recommendation is the following:
    - Use CUSTOMER_H Customer Header Extensions for any new fields at the header level.
    - Use CUSTOMER_I Customer Item Extensions for any new fields at the item level.
    Unless you have a specific requirement to extend a segment of the transaction, I recommend placing all new fields in these segments.  The CUSTOMER_H & CUSTOMER_I segments are considered "standard" segments, that are already built into all the necessary API structures.
    Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Good luck,
    Stephen

  • No login available in Business Catalyst extension panel in Dreamweaver CS5.

    I am not getting the login form in the Business Catalyst Extension panel in Dreamweaver CS5.
    I have added the extension and restarted Dreamweaver, but the panel still shows two buttons: Get Started ( taking me to download the extension) and Learn More ( taking me to a page that does not exist anymore).
    Does anyone know how to make the login form appear so that I can get Business Catalyst integrated with Dreamweaver CS5?

    Try to restore the Dreamweaver Preferences as given in the link below, and see if that helps

  • InDesign Object Libraries and DPS

    Hello,
    I'm familiar with InDesign object libraries' capability to make easily reusable objects and elements. What I'm wondering: if I create objects and elements in a Library to be reused across various pages and across multiple articles in my portfolio, will DPS read these multiple instances as ONE object when it comes time to publish?
    What I am trying to achieve is ultimately a lower file download size of my app. For example, if I create a multistate object, is it possible, through Object Libraries, to use this object in several places within my folio and have it count as just one object in terms of file size?
    Thanks in advance.

    No. Good ways to manage file size is to use PDF as your folio file format, to avoid embedding videos, and to avoid full-page multi-state objects.
