Drawing question - create an outline, or tracing
I have an image that I scanned and dropped into a Pages document.
I want to outline it so that I can manipulate the image.
Anyone know how I can achieve this?
You get an application designed to do that.
You may look at :
Illustrator
The Gimp
Inkscape

How do I create an outline from a .JPG image?
I have Illustrator CS6 for Windows 7.
I'm trying to create an outline for the image. It's just a single .jpg image.You mean something like this?
Make two circles with the same top origin. Select both and rotate/copy them 120° to the left and right. Select them all, use the Pathfinder panel to combine them. Delete the the center triangle. Ungroup them. Add the small center circle and the other shape and make it a compound path (should knockout the center). Give it a stroke. Make the back two circles and make a compound path and send to back. -
How do I create an outline around text please
hi all, How do I create an outline around text please
thanks,You can see here that you can simply apply a stroke to live text by double clicking the stroke icon in the bottom left of the toolbar and selecting a color. I chose red.
If you select the text, then go to Type > Create Outlines, you get more options in the stroke palette, like whether the stroke is aligned to the outside or inside of the text object's boundary. The text below is outlined with the stroke aligned to the outside. -
Hi All,
I have a complex multi-coloured vector object.
I want to create a outline of the object as a path and then use that path to put text around.
There must be an easy way of doing this, can anyone please give me some guidance?
TYCould you copy it all and use the pathfinder pallet "add to shape area" on the copy?

Keynote stops responding when creating an outline
Whenever I create an outline from a Keynote Presenation I have have to force quit the application after it has completed creating the outline.
Try this repair for Keynote 6.2, ensure you complete all the tasks and in the order shown:
1 delete all the iWork applications if you have them, not just Keynote, using Appcleaner from Mac Update, its a freeware application
2 empty the trash: Finder > Empty Trash
3 Shut down your Mac, wait 30 seconds, then hold down the Shift key while pressing the power button
When you see the grey Apple symbol and progress indicator (a spinning gear), release the Shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, then hold down the Shift key again as you click Log in.
4 Let the Mac fully boot up, it will take longer as the OS is repairing the drive
5 when fully booted, go to Applications > Utilities > Disc Utility; click on the boot drive then First Aid tab and click repair disc permissions
6 when complete, restart the Mac normally, Apple menu > Restart
7 install Keynote from the Mac App Store
let us know if this helped -

g,
As I (mis)understand it, you may have a look at the ways suggested in these threads, increasing the Stroke Weight as desired after creating the centre path:

Creating an outline around text or objects that follows their shape
I have tried the offset path, however it gets too large. I am looking to keep things simple but need a bit more definition that just a simple outline will give. On this particular image I am looking to create an outline or fill shape behind the words and pistol but wanting to keep roughly the same shape. Any pointers?
I think I've got it now. The Apreance panel will probably do the trick. Here's how:

I am trying to create an outline for a communication class. Is there a way for me to input Roman numerals in pages?
Only one Bookmarks Toolbar is allowed. You can create Folders on the bookmarks toolbar (named "Sports", "News", etc.) and add or move your bookmarks to those folders.

**Above demonstrates making folders in Bookmarks Menu in the Library window, but you can do the same under Bookmarks Toolbar in the Library window..
**You can also create a new folder in Bookmarks Toolbar by right-click on the Bookmarks Toolbar itself and choose New Folder to create a folder on the Bookmark Toolbar.

Illustrator CS3; creating an outline around a shadow only
I am working with illustrator CS3 and and trying to figure out how to go about creating a outline for a drop shadow only. I know how to create the drop shadow and apply it to the selected work but when I want to add another stroke it wants to add it to the letters and to the outline and it adds small lines in between connecting the two. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How do you create the outline of a shape,solid, dotted or dashed, e.g. an empty rectangle or circle,
Something like these:
I need these to be unfilled outlines, the interiors empty, i.e. see-through.
ThanksJacquesBDA wrote:
My apologies, gourav5341, I neglected to say that I'm running CS2, PS version 9.0. Selecting the Shape tool in that version doesn't bring up a set of Stroke Options, and I can't find a "no fill" option anywhere
I did wonder.
Select the rectangular shape tool, and in the options bar near the left hand end, use the drop-down and select Path.
Drag out a rectangle the required size.
Select the Type tool and nice fat font like Arial Black.
Hover the cursor over the path until the normal Type cursor changes to:
Put your finger on the minus key, and hold till you have a dozen or so dashes.
OK them, and double click to select them again.
Now open the Character panel and adjust the tracking — which looks like:
...to give you the required spacing. Also adjust font size and weight etc.
Now just hold down the dash key till your path is full.
You can also fill the work path with a brush shape if you have a particular dash in mind. -
Outline path to create an outline that includes the rounded edge?
In illustrator CS6 I have a line with a rounded endpoints. When I try to OUtLINE PATH - it will clip off the rounded edge -- as if I'm asking AI to outline a path with a non-rounded edge. How can I get outline path to create an outline that includes the rounded edge? Many thanks!
Karen,
It sounds like something that may require something from this list.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

Create type outline that includes stroke?
Hello. How do I create an outline out of type (as in Type>Create Outline) that includes the stroke? Can't find it anywhere.
That's one possible solution. But you still have a two color print. If your publication is B/W (or one color only) and you want a more richer black - be assured that at the print shop they can control te amount of ink that's printed.
In case of a B/W (one color) publication you coul'd also use a Spot colour, Pantone Coated or Uncoated (depends on the paper used) - as such a color has much better pigmentation it looks better when printed on paper than standard CMYK colors. The result is a better looking printed publication and you will save some money as you have only one color to print.
Just select a Pantone swatch and you will have no problems with trapping.
The same goes for full colour print - also in that case you will have a 5 color print (the four CMYK plates + one Spot color) but your solid background printed with the Spot color will be much better looking than when printed only in black.
When using negativ small type on a solid background I usually use a Spot color (I prefere Pantone) and a sans-serif or a slightly bolder serif typeface. I avoid using typefaces like regular TimesNew Roman. You could try to find some type face that has a SemiBold or DemiBold font style.
