Drawing small, short curves in Photoshop draws straight line between start and end points

I recently installed Windows 8 Professional, Photoshop and the latest Wacom Bamboo tablet drivers and have been experiencing this issue. I've turned off windows flicks and ink. This only happens in Photoshop with the brush tool and I can't seem to find a setting that this corresponds to.
Basically, when I draw small, short curves (particularly letters like 'c' and 'h'), when I lift up my pen, Photoshop automatically connects the end and start points together with a straight line ('c' almost becomes 'o' or 'a'). I'm not holding the shift or any modifier keys. I've tried googling this issue, but I have no idea how to phrase it properly to get any results.
Here's an image of what I'm talking about (the top was drawn with the pencil tool, the bottom with the brush tool which demonstrates the issue. I've highlighted the start and end points with red dots):
ANy ideas? :/

  • Custom Control Help: Draw a line and output start and end points

I'm looking to find or make a custom control (or simple subVI) that will appear as a 100x100 unit grid and allow me to draw a line from one point to another on that grid. It will then output the (x,y) of the starting and end point of that line on the grid.  Any help or ideas?

What you basically want is a loop with an event structure where you process Mouse Down, Move and Up events for your controls. There are any number of ways of implementing something like this, but this one will probably be the simplest:
Use a multicolumn listbox or a table for your grid. Hide the scrollbars and headers.
You can use the ActiveCell property with -2,-2 to select all cells. You can then use the cell size property to set the exact size of the cell.
Next, you put a picture control on top of the table and color its background transparent so that the table shows through. You use property node to make sure the two are aligned to exactly the same spot and size.
You use the mouse events on the picture control to detect the clicks and moves.
You use the table's Point to Row Column method to translate the event's position data to a cell.
You use the picture control VIs to draw the line on the picture based on that data.
You can even color the selected cells in the table using the table properties.
If you want to simplify things somewhat, you can also use the timeout event instead of the Mouse Move event to draw the line, but then you'll need to keep the timeout value in a shift register and reset it to -1 (no timeout) when the Mouse Up event happens.
I would also suggest processing Mouse Enter and Leave events to change the cursor and cancel if the user leaves in the middle of dragging.

  • Draw straight lines, locked at each end?

I've got a wiring diagram that I want to add connections to, see above. I've tried using the Line Segment Tool, and the Pen; these produce the red and black lines connecting the square box at the top to the table below. However, I want to move their position slightly, but keep the ends locked to the side of the object they meet. I've got about 100 to draw, and it's very tedious having to re-draw each line to try to get it right.
    Any suggestions?

    Nigel,
You may Direct Selet the box(es) to move by ClickDragging, thereby also selecting the end Anchor Point(s), then move them together.

  • I can't draw straight lines for fill-in-the-blank on my tests and worksheets. The "draw it yourself choice makes big fat lines and takes a lot of manipulation. Do I have to draw them myself with a pen and a ruler?

I can't draw straight lines for fill-in-the-blank on tests and worksheets. The draw-it-yourself ooption gives me thick lines and is time-consuming. So, after all these years, do I have to go back to using a ruler and a pen?

In Pages v5.0.1, the straight lines are already drawn for you in the Shape Tool. Before we go there, select Menu > View > Show Ruler.
When you click on Shape in the Pages toolbar, the top left line is straight. Click it. It will drop into your document in a 45 degree angle. Grab the lower left selection grip and drag it up and to the right to position the horizontal line in the length of your choice. Use the Format: Style tab to manage the stroke weight. You can also choose Menu > Edit > Duplicate Selection (command+D) as a productivity tool.
If you move from the Format: Style tab to the Arrange tab, you can compare the start and end points with where you want the line positioned on the ruler. Once you have it positioned, notice the Lock button, also on the Format: Arrange tab.

  • Drawing straight lines

    Hi,
in my programm I need to draw straight lines(I hope this is the correct translation for an infinit line). Is there a way of doing this?

I just answered my own question.
I checked Illustrator Preferences and under GENERAL: CONSTRAIN ANGLE, mine was set to 0.19 degrees (for reasons unknown).
I changed it to zero and Voila! Who'd have thought this would alter the whole drawing surface?
All I had to do was ask others in order to figure it out myself! Hope this helps anybody else having this bizarre problem.

  • Drawing Straight Line angled path with no wavy distortion when scaled

    Hi,
I'm a beginner using AI CS5.5, and trying to add  straight lines to a drawing, using the line tool. They are angled about 30 degrees from horizontal, parallel to each other. Used 2pt and color for lines. Everything looks great in AI. When I export the drawing to PNG for insertion as an illustration into InDesign and scale down (45%) the drawing to fit the InDesign page, the once perfectly smooth and straight lines are wavy, almost zigzaggy, slightly distorted. Not a good result.
Is there a better way to draw straight lines that are on an angle in the drawing so that they are perfectly smooth, and when scaled retain their smooth straight look?
    Any help appreciated.
    Regards,

    Hi,
Thank you for this suggestion. I just tried this, placing the AI file directly into InDesign, but unfortunately, this looked even worse. The straight lines were even more jagged.
In Illustrator, these same lines are perfectly straight and smooth. Not sure why it's so challenging to get them to stay straight and smooth after placing the drawing?
    Any suggestions?

  • Straight line between two polar points

    Hi all,
I've created a VI which would be plotting a polar curve depending on the time-distance formula. The VI has Present Mag. and Target Mag. each having its own angle (Polar form i.e. (r,theta)). I want to plot a straight line between the Present point and the Target point. I used the time-distance formula to plot the magnitude, and used the same slope for plotting angle. However, I get a curved plot as shown in the attachment.
Could anyone tell me what formula can be used to plot a straight line between the Present point and the Target point?
    Thanks.

    @altenbach....
    how can we do that?
    To say in short,
I have two points A(magnitude1,phase1[deg]) and B(magnitude2,phase2[deg]) on the input side. Also, I have the Time input to travel from pt.A to pt.B
I have one polar plot as indicator output.
I need to show on the polar plot a line which is gradually increasing from pt.A to pt.B in a straight line on the polar plot.
You may refer the picture attached in the first post above to get an idea of what I am trying to do.
    Thanks!

  • Shooting mouse cursor beyond intended straight line between two points.

I copied this forum question from Lightroom, and I hope this is ok because I did not know how to express the problem I am experiencing:
"The photoshop brush tool interprets shift-click as a brush stroke that connects the previous brush mouse-up position with the current mouse-down (the shift-click) as a straight line stroke.
[My experience is that every so often, maybe every three or four "shift-clicks" to get my mouse to create a straight line to my next placed mouse position, the Mouse goes Wild, and shoots way beyond my intended next position, and depending on how zoomed in on the image i am, I frequently loose my place where I had been working.  It becomes quite frustrating as this is a very frequent occurrence.  I have heard others with this version CS3 as well as CS2 having the same "shooting Cursor" which is accompanied by some cursing of my own.  As said below, Time savings is the reason for this technique.  If this problem has been dealt with already, I am sorry to have clogged up the forum, but please re-direct me with the key words to find that thread.  How do I cause this shooting cursor to stay within my mouse placement?]
I find this a HUGE time-saver in creating masks as it doesn't require that I have a steady hand. I'm frustrated that LR does not offer the same capability. This feature would complement the auto-mask feature (kinda works). I could create a mask in a fraction of the time if LR included this feature.
Another irritation of occurrence is when setting lines from the rulers, the image will suddenly zoom in by a small amount.  In other words, there are several areas where the software seems to have a mind of it's own, and behaves in an erratic fashion not at all related to the intended action and result.
    I am operating a Mac 10.5.7
    Model Identifier: MacPro3,1
      Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed: 2.8 GHz
      Number Of Processors: 2
      Total Number Of Cores: 8
L2 Cache (per processor): 12 MB
      Memory: 2 GB
      Bus Speed: 1.6 GHz
    ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT:
    2x2.8 GHZ Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM

Thanks for your quick reply.  I am attaching screen shots of my
current mouse setting, and a graphic of how the behavior is
demonstrated.  The image is one in which quick mask is being used to
create a selection, and I am using the paint brush and find it easier
to use the brush with the technique of clicking the brush at one point
then holding the shift key while I click the brush at the desired next
point which should allow the brush to paint a straight line between
the two points.  The technique works for 3 or 4 clicks, when at the
next click, it is as if it was just shot clean out of the realm of the
desired area.  It is almost funny, except that this is a technique I
find most useful and frequently helpful, and is not confined to the
paint brush, but the eraser as well.  This does occur also with my
computer at work, a pc, and a Microsoft mouse.  I have been using
Photoshop for 12 years, and this problem did not start until I started
using CS3 extended.  We have upgraded two HP pcs at work to CS4
extended, and each uses a different mouse, and both exhibit the same
behavior as experienced by other persons working at those stations,
    and while using Photoshop.
I do hope you could look into this a bit further, Mark, as my
explanation of the problem may not be clearly presented for you to
fully understand just what I am experiencing.
    Thank you for your help.

  • How to make start and end curve pieces of selected tab transparent in custom theme in FF33?

I created my own theme using a background image but it seems I cannot code it right in browser.css to make the start and end curve pieces of selected tab transparent. They remain colored, I guess using the operating system's (which is Win XP) dialog color. The middle piece is fine, though, as well as the hovering.
I built my theme based on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Building_a_Theme but customised it.
Your answer would be highly appreciated!

There is a Theme Development forum over here - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=18&sid=8c2f1ca97805f897689772e80e351023
You'll need to register and login to that website, which isn't part of Mozilla Support, but far more theme developers hang out over there then what we get here.

Hi, I need Photoshop Organizer to stop automatically start and try to organize files when I insert a card in the reader. How do I do that?

    Hi,
Which operating system are you running on?
Which version of Photoshop Elements are you using?
The automatic running is usually invoke by your operating system. For instance in Windows 7, go to the control panel and select Autoplay. There, look for the action when pictures are detected - it is probably set to elements. Set it as you want.

  • CS6 - Brush bug - randomly draws straight lines when sketching

    Hey everyone,
I noticed this bug that occurs when I use the brush tool. Whenever I'm sketching in a small region, it randomly draws a straight line, as if I never lifted my pen. It's like when you hold the shift key to make a straight line, except I'm not holding the shift key. However, this only happens if I'm drawing semi-closely and/or if I'm drawing semi-fast (not that fast though. The lines will connect even though I lifted my pen. Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I updated my video card and tablet to its latest drivers but it hasn't fixed the issue.
    Specs:
    Windows 7 64 bit
    Wacom intuos5 tablet
    Nvidia GT 520 Graphics card
    Photoshop CS6
    Any help would be appreciated.

Allso have this from time to time.
The brush loses response and does little short straight lines here and there, it's a software glitch. I usually save my document when that happens, this usually snaps it out of it but a few times I had to wait then save again. I used to be able to just swap apps or click on layers or something but that doesn't work anymore.
    XP 32bit
    CS5 32bit
I had the same promlem with CS4 trial, with my old Manhattan tablet and with my new Intuo's. I think it's a bug that comes in from time to time with panel, window focus changes. Or Id get up to fetch a cup of coffee and when I come back it's like that.
