Drawing with shift key

So there is something that has been bugging me in photoshop and I'm hoping there is a way to turn it off or keep it from happening.  Oftentimes when using the brush tool (using a cintiq) I use the shift key to draw straight horizontal and vertical lines.  I have noticed that if you don't click before you draw again it will do something sort of like this (see attached image).  Is there a way I can do what's in the second demo without having that happen (I'd prefer being able to hold the shift key through the drawing of both lines)?
Thanks so much in advance.

Probably not, because another feature of the Shift key is to stroke a straight line between the last point of the brush and the current point.

  • Annoying problem with shift key in limit dialog Brio 6.6.4

    <p>My company uses Brio Insight & Designer v6.6.4.  We (meaning almost all users) are encountering an annoying problem whenadding a limit to a query using the limit dialog.  When try toenter a limit value using the shift key, as in Shift T to enter acapital T, the limit value field ends up with a value like"TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT".  Thisis very annoying and widespread problem with us.  It seemed tostart when we upgraded to Win XP SP2.  Is there a solution forother than to "upgrade to the latest version"?</p>

    Unfortunately not. The only way we avoided this issue was to upgrade or write the text into a text editor and cut and paste the text into the section name box.

  • Selecting Multiple Files With Shift Key

    Am I right in understanding that the only way to select multiple files with the Shift key in Finder is by using File view? Seems kinda silly.
    Thank you, Scott

    I'm at my Snow Leopard machine right now, and I'm not sure that nothing was changed in Mavericks, but I never noticed that it was.
    I have four view modes: Icon, List, Column and CoverFlow.
    I almost always use Column view, but I am guessing that you are calling Icon view File view. In Icon view, Shift clicking seems to work the way Command clicking does in Column view (and probably the other views as well): it allows you to add randomly selected files to the selection. In Column view, Shift clicking works like it does for most things (like text selection); it selects every thing between the previous click and the Shift click.

  • MacBook stuck with shift key enabled and numbers not working - even the keyboard app in languages wont type lowercase nor numbers?!  Anyone know whats up?  no spillage...cant understand why the keyboard app wont do anything.

    Anyone have a clue?  I can understand the keyboard being broke / shift key being stuck but why in the world would I not be able to type the numbers on the language keyboard app on the operating system?  Numbers show up on the app but when I press them I still get the special characters like #^&#* and it wont type lower case. Nothing has ever been spilt, just stopped working one day.  Rebooted from Time Capsule restore dated a month ago and its still doing it. (problem started two weeks ago).  Only way to get lower case or numbers to actually show up is the copy and paste.
    Any help would be amazing!
    Details on computer:  13 inch MacBook6, 1  (Late 2009) / Intel Core 2 DUO /  2.26GHZ / 2GB /  Memory running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

    If you can afford it, I would recommend replacing the topcase and keyboard as Apple suggests. If like me, you can't afford it or are open to a hack fix, then read on.
    The problem
    Yesterday, a little water spilt on my 13" MBP keyboard. I turned it around immediately, drained out the water and used tissue to suck it all up but the keyboard was still acting funny. I turned it off and left it out in the sun for a couple of hours and turned it on again but problems remained. Like Rickdubya, my warranty had run out just a month ago and I knew Apple would not cover this under warranty. I tried to clean the shift keys and left it overnight with some rice on them with hopes that the moisture might get sucked out. Nothing worked. (The rice bit is an urban legend that seems to work with some electronics). Went to the Apple Store this morning and was told that they wouldn't even take out the key and clean it, and that the entire top case would have to be replaced. A total bill of 156 Euros which I cannot afford. I had a USB keyboard that would let me use the Mac for the moment so I decided to try to work out a fix.
    Symptoms
    - Boots in safe mode everytime (which I later found out was because the shift key is pressed)
    - Cannot login because password is in lower case or has numbers
    - Cannot boot in super user mode and try to disable keys or override password as some commands won't work in uppercase (I wouldn't recommend this anyway because its super user mode)
    - All text is in caps and numbers are symbols as though shift key is always pressed
    - Audio doesn't work
    - Keyboard viewer would not always show the shift key pressed. The key seemed to get pressed at random
    Fix
    1. Hold the Option button down on boot to bypass the Safe Mode ensure a normal boot
    2. At the login screen, plug in a USB keyboard and enter your password to login
    3. Change your password to one that uses all caps and no numbers
    4. Download and install KeyRemap4MacBook .
    5. Use a combination of the functionalities of the Keyboard Viewer and KeyRemap4MacBook to figure out which shift key is the problem. In my case, I found out that it was only my left shift key.
    6. Disable the left/right shift key on KeyRemap4MacBook and click on the 'Reload XML' button to make that take effect.
    If only one shift key was the problem, then you are done. If both shift keys were shorted, then its likely other keys are too. In which case you should probably just replace the entire thing. If you think other keys are not affected, then you can use KeyRemap4MacBook itself to remap the shift functionality to a lesser used key like the Left Option key.
    7. Under System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items , add KeyRemap4MacBook as an application that should start on login. This will ensure that your disable/remap of the shift key is active everytime you login.
    Usage change/Things to remember
    1. Remember to hold down the Option key everytime the computer boots or reboots to bypass safe mode. The fix above is at the software level. The key is physically still shorted at the hardware level and will affect boot.
    2. Remember that at the login screen, the disable/remap is not active. So your password now has to be all caps and only letters.
    As soon as I can save some money, I will get my topcase and keyboard replaced but until then this solution works great with minimal change. Hope this helps!

  • IOS 7, iPad 4: keyboard problems with Shift key

    Since I have upgraded my iPad 4 to iOS 7 a few days ago the keyboard drives me mad: I did not experience the overall slowness of the keyboard as reported by so many others. Anyway, I reset my settings just to be safe. But the reset had absolutely no influence on my real problem which is as follows:
    Whenever and wherever (each app) I type, it is just a matter of luck whether or not the keyboard will recognise me typing the Shift key in order to get capital letters - and there are many caps in German words because each noun must be in caps! In 70% of all cases iOS will just write my capital letters as lower-case ones because it just does not recognise me hitting the Shift key, especially when typing quickly. Under iOS 6 this problem did not exist. I am losing so much time fixing missing capitalisation in all my texts (I use iPad for business) and/or typing extra slow and hitting the virtual Shift key on the screen extra hard that there is absolutely no flow in typing. Everything is just slow, whacky and it drives me nuts! How can it be that the latest iPad 4 with so much CPU power cannot handle a simple thing as typing caps? I am also experiencing problem when using the wipe-up gesture to get umlauts on vowels. It is not as bad as with Shift, but also noticeable.
    Is there any solution to this problem? It is a major impediment and I am even considering an iOS downgrade because it is basically killing my ability to work efficiently with my iPad. Otherwise I am kinda okay with iOS 7, but this is a real show stopper. I wonder why I found nobody else on the whole web mentioning this problem.

    Thank you Habitoti for describing the necessary change to the way that we need to type on ios devices to avoid the capital letter problem.
    Holding the shift key fractionally longer solves the problem. But why oh why would Apple require users to fundamentally change the way they touch type by introducing a different keyboarding protocol like this? It is most unlike Apple to have us now have to consciously think about how to touch type all over again.
    Intuitive operating systems are what make Apple so great. This keyboard problem is definitely not intuitive and it is driving me crazy.
    Apple, you need to change the time weighting on the shift key in iOs 7.04.
    Please, pretty please!

  • Using a keyListener to draw with arrow keys

    Hi!
    I am trying to create an interactive game where the user can
    draw a line using the arrow keys (similar to an etch-a-sketch). I
    have a start point acting on keyListeners that will move around the
    screen using the arrow keys, but I can't seem to figure out how to
    get the listeners to draw a line. Here is the correct code that
    moves the start point:
    information_txt.text = "USE YOUR ARROW KEYS TO DRAW";
    var speed:Number = 4;
    start_mc.onEnterFrame = function() {
    if (Key.isDown(Key.RIGHT)) {
    this._x = this._x+speed;
    } else if (Key.isDown(Key.LEFT)) {
    this._x = this._x-speed;
    if (Key.isDown(Key.UP)) {
    this._y = this._y-speed;
    } else if (Key.isDown(Key.DOWN)) {
    this._y = this._y+speed;
    How can I modify Action Script to get the keyListeners to
    draw on the arrow keys?
    Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!
    Thanks!

    Thanks for your reply! That's awesome. you were right, my
    script is in AS 2.0... I guess I posted to the wrong section. But I
    could easily switch to AS 3.0. I am really just interested in
    drawing with the arrow keys and using that action script to draw
    onto my own stage/ image. I have tried messing with the script, but
    can't seem to get the "drawing" portions of the script to work.
    Any suggestions??
    Thanks again for the help!!!

  • Lion keyboard problem with shift keys

    After installing lion the shift keys open things like expose.
    How can i assign them to their old function?

    I have a wired usb keyboard. It has F3 for Mission control and F4 for dock.
    In System preferences, Dutch language by the way, in the Keyboard pane, key combinations, Mission control is also assigned to ctrl up. That would be the right one, I pressed the reset button, no change.
    Now I tried selecting my keyboard, it was not recognized and pressing the key next to the left shift only gives a warning sound.
    I will try some combinations with disconnected keyboards and another keyboard with reboot, to see if anything changes....

  • See the changes with shift key

    In iPhoto it was possible to see the result of the different effects or changes applied to a photo by pressing the shift key, is it possible to still do it in Photos OXS?

    In Edit mode, press the M (for Master) key.

  • Caps lock with shift key annoying symbol on desktop

    just started getting on my upper right corner of desktop a cap lock symbol , an upward pointing fat arrow. it is annoying.
    also got some non-response from my caps lock key.  i accidently hit shift key on the right, and it all cleared up.
    what's going on?

    For the record, here's my solution:
    This creates a custom key symbol to swap Caps and Shift:
    /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/custom
    partial modifier_keys
    xkb_symbols "swapcaps" {
    replace key <CAPS> { [ Shift_L ] };
    replace key <LFSH> { [ Caps_Lock ] };
    This script prints a description of the keymap, adds the symbol to swap the two keys from that other file to the right line, and writes the new description to a temporary file... then compiles it!
    /usr/local/bin/fixshift
    #!/usr/bin/bash
    setxkbmap -print | sed '/xkb_symbols/ { s/"/+custom(swapcaps)"/2 }' > /tmp/fixshift
    xkbcomp /tmp/fixshift $DISPLAY > /dev/null 2>&1 &
    Then I just set that program to run every time lightdm starts a session:
    /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf
    display-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/fixshift
    greeter-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/fixshift
    session-setup-script=/usr/local/bin/fixshift
    And nothing more to it. Life is grand again.

  • Pages: I can't cut and paste sections because selecting a section inactivates the "cut" and "paste" command.  Likewise, I can't select adjacent sections because, even with "Shift" key depressed or dragging, the second DESLECTS the first.

    I've got a MacBook Pro with iOS Yosemite 10.10.1 with recently updated Pages word processor software that doesn't allow me to select multiple sections; delete a single selected section, cut, copy or paste a section.  When I try to select multiple adjacent sections by shift/clicking or by dragging beside the thumbnails, the first section becomes deselected when I hit the second one.
    Is my software corrupted?
    Should I make an appointment at the "Genius Bar"?

    No. Just use Pages '09 if you still have it.
    Pages 5 is just missing a lot of features.

  • Can't select multiple items with shift key os 10.7

    I can use command A to select all, and I can select multiple items with command and individually clicking each one, but not using Shift and clicking on the first and last items.  Any ideas?

    You need to display the window in column or list view. Shift-clicking items won't do that in icon view.

  • The menu bar and task bar are missing. I tried opening in safe mode like instructed but there is no firefox button and I tried opening with shift key down but it doesn't open in safe mode.

    all that is showing is bookmark tabs. I can't search or open my home page. I don't have a fire fox button at the top to click on to open in safe mode.

    # Maybe you are in ''Full screen'' mode. Use the '''F11''' key to enter or exit this mode.

  • Splash screen loads, then FF crashes, even with Shift key held down. HELP!

    For some weeks now I have been having problems with both Firefox and Thunderbird. Neither will load. Sometimes I have been able to load once after a clean reinstall. I have tried:
    virus scanning and cleaning
    portable version on different computers (I use a portable version whenever possible but this has become an issue on static computers also)
    deletion of data folder
    Just to rub salt in the wound, when the programs crash and I try to send a report, the error reporter says it is unable to send a report. Have not had time/patience to look into that.

    Firefox Portable has a splash screen. I don't think FirefoxPortable will launch into SafeMode, or it just doesn't work for me.
    If you are using FirefoxPortable ''[which isn't made by Mozilla, it's a 3rd party application]'', you might want to ask for help from the appropriate forum. Maybe they have a trick for launching in the SafeMode that I am unaware of.

  • My MacBook Pro will not start up.  I only get a grey screen with the spinning wheel.  No blue page appears and the grey screen remains.  Tried starting with the Shift key but ineffective as well.

    Can't get my MacBook Pro to start up.  Have shut it down several times and tried restarting but all I get is a grey screen with the spinning icon.  Apple Support online suggested starting with power button followed immediately with the shift key.  Same results.  Also tried power button with shift key, command, and V.  Black screen appeared instead with lots of data language but still no starting.  This final page was suppose to result in an internal system check and restart but nothing happened and the black screen remains.Where do I go from here?  Scheduled for the Genius Bar tomorrow but would like to resolve this beforehand.

    You may be having a hardware problem that you cannot resolve on your own. Nevertheless...
    ...hold down the command and R keys whilst booting to try to get to your Recovery partition. If you can, use Disk Utility to try to Verify your boot drive (usually named "Macintosh HD" unless you've renamed it). If the verification fails, try to repair your hard drive. If everything appears to be OK, restart.
    If you can't get into your Recovery partition, your problem is likely hardware related. If so, keep your appointment and see what the Apple techs have to say.

  • HT203254 Caps lock and Shift Key behavior

    Hi,
    I am using mac from 3 years now but just notice one bug or feature in Key board.
    If my caps lock is on and I type any character with Shift press I am expecting character in lower case but it is always coming up in Capital. So looks like caps lock is not changing behavior of shift key. Is this always like this or is there any configuration that I can change.
    -Samar

    Thanks Carson for reply.
    May be I not able to explain the problem earlier. Caps Lock is working perfectly fine. As my understanding and hows the windows or linux  keyboard works with this scenario I am expecting lower case character when I have Caps lock ON and I press any character with  Shift Key.
    Step 1 :Caps Lock On
    Step 2: Shift Key + I  <<You can press any character>>
    Expected result Is "A" but result COMES AS "A"
