Dreamhost blocking SMTP outgoing email sent via MiFi 4510L hotspot

I've been using a MiFi 4510L as my only internet connection for about a year, and have been happy with it to date.  Dreamhost.com is my email host (and web domain host).
I haven't been using the MiFi for a few days.  Today I was  unable to send any messages via the MiFi  through Dreamhost's SMTP (outgoing email) server.  This happens both when sending from my laptop's email client (Apple Mail) and also from my iPhone when WiFi (i.e. the Verizon MiFi connection) is enabled.  It's not a mailserver authentication issue -- incoming email works, Dreamhost webmail send and receive  works, and I can send from the (AT&T) iPhone with WiFi turned off (i.e. through AT&T's cellular network).  I contacted Dreamhost support, who said:

DreamHost now performs spamhaus RBL look ups when using an smtp client such as Apple mail. This is to prevent spam from leaving our network. The issues you are describing is what happens when you attempt to send email from an internet service provider (ISP) that is on the spamhaus blocking list. Switching from wifi to 3g will change that IP address that we look up prior to sending the email. For the device that is blocked we can only recommend that you contact the ISP and ask them to either give you a different IP address or work to get their IP's delisted.
- - - - - (end Dreamhost response) - - - - -
I take this to mean that Verizon 4G LTE IP addresses have somehow been added to Spamhaus's database.  Has anyone experienced this issue with sending email through a Verizon  device using Dreamhost SMTP?  What are my options?
Message was edited by: John Ciccarelli  (New information: Dreamhost suggested using WhatIsMyIP.com to determine my IP address.  It returned 166.250.33.162 and sure enough Spamhaus has that in its PBL and XBL lists.  However, I'm using Authenticated SMTP (port 587), not the unauthenticated port 25.  Are Verizon servers somehow listed on Spamhaus?)

More research: I repeatedly shut down and powered up the MiFi.  Each time up, WhatIsMyIP.com returns a slightly different IP: 166.250.33.162, 166.250.32.186, 166.250.34.151, etc.  Lookup shows these IPs are associated with vzwdomain.com or myvzw.com, not surprisingly.  So presumably the MiFi gets mapped to a different actual IP each time it connects.  The first of these 3 IPs showed up in Spamhaus's PBL and XBL lists; the other two just in the PBL list.  Perhaps if I keep powering off/on it'll eventually connect via an IP that isn't on Spamhaus's list.

Are you using Mail app? You need to make sure the Outgoing Mail Server settings are exactly how your ISP recommends. So give them a call.

  • Comcast is blocking all outgoing email SMTP servers except for Comcast's own server

Recently I have not been able to send any email from my Apple client on my iMac, MacBook, iPad or iPhones when connected to Comcast. I am using my iCloud account, my GMail account, and my Yahoo (SBCGlobal) account. I keep getting the error message that the SMTP Server cannot be reached. Again, this is only when I'm connected to Comcast. If I turn off my WiFi on my mobile devices, I can send just fine. I even connected to my Hotspot on my phone with my iMac and MacBook, and both of them send fine when NOT connected to Comcast. But if I connect to Comcast, I can no longer send email. I spent an hour on the phone with Apple, and they helped me determine that it is only when I'm connected to Comcast. I then spent over an hour-and-a-half on the phone with Comcast (first guy just hung up on my, the second woman transferred me to someone without telling me, the third guy transferred me to someone else, and the fourth guy said it was the mail client setup, and had nothing to do with Comcast. Comcast blocking all SMTP servers except for their own. I don't want all of my email going through their servers. Through general and advanced troubleshooting I have determined it is Comcast, or my Modem (which is a DocSys3.0 modem). But no one will help. Help!!!!!

It sounds like you may be trying to send over port 25.  Have you tried port 587/STARTTLS, or 465/SSL?

  • Customise the email sent via the "Share" feature in Sharepoint 2013

We have modified a number of the alerts via the alerttemplates.xml file in the 15 hive already.
We want to modify the the email that is generated when a user in Sharepoint 2013 selects "share" on a document. We specifically want to add something to the Subject line of the email - just some text.
Can someone advise what the file name and location and the name of the AlertTemplate Name that we need to modify?
    Cheers,
    Clarky

    Hi Clarky,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to modify the subject of the email when sharing a document with a user.
When sharing a document with a user, that is granting permission to the user on the document.
This email template is located in C:\program files\common files\Microsoft shared\web server extensions\15\Resources\core.en-US.resx, you can open this file in notepad to edit it. But it’s not suggested to change the file, before you modify it, take
    a backup.
    Best regards.

  • Mail App Doesn't Keep Copies of Email Sent via One Particular Account?

I have several accounts set up in Mail app.  For one account, I can send and receive email, but copies of the email do not appear in my Sent folder, or in any other folder in Mail app. It is as if they were never sent. All other accounts are functionning normally.
    How can I correct this?

All four of our iPhone pilot users have experienced this problem at some time. From what I've been able to determine so far:
+ It seems to happen when there's a slightly shaky data connection - we've never seen it on a WiFi connection, or where the phone is stationary with good signal. It frequently happens to me when I'm sending mails on a moving train.
+ Once a message has come back with the "Failed to send" error, the iPhone will keep retrying, but will invariably fail even if it's got perfect GPRS/EDGE/3G signal. The thing is, even though you've been told there was an error, the message has actually been sent already - but it sticks in the Outbox and keeps trying as though it hasn't. It's not until the phone either docks or gets back onto a WiFi network that the message sends one more time and the problem clears.
+ It feels like a problem in the processing of the ActiveSync "OK" acknowledgement during sending - something gets out of line in the iPhone, maybe it misses the ACK because of poor data signal, but then it's stuck.
+ There's no obvious connection to firmware version. We've seen this on everything from 2.0 up to 2.1.
This is a real problem - and it's absolutely stopping us from letting any "real" users use iPhones through Exchange. Does anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?
Apple? Any new firmware forthcoming to fix this bug?
    Thanks.

  • Emails sent via calls to MAPI sometimes hang in Outbox

We have a small API we've created that encapsulates calls to native MAPI operations, enabling us to send emails if a customer has Outlook installed (and they elect to do this in our system).
    We're seeing the following:
    1. Send email if Outlook 2013 (on Win 8.1) is running - works, emails get sent pretty much right away.
    2. Send email if Outlook 2013 (on Win 8.1) not running - works, email is sent as soon as Outlook is eventually started.
    3. Send email if Outlook 2010 (on Win 7) is running - works. emails get sent petty much right away.
    4. Send email if Outlook 2010 (on Win 7) not running - fails, when Outlook is started emails are stuck in Outbox and remain there no matter what we try to get them sent.
I'm unsure if the behavior is specific to some version (e.g. 2010) of Outlook or if its some random thing and we need to code better for this.
    Cap'n

If you look at the message in the Outbox folder, is it shown italicized?
Can it be sent if you open the message and click the Send button?

  • BI 4.1 Publication: Attach Multiple PDFs on an email sent via Publication

    Hi All,
I have created a Publication which uses a Crystal Report as Source Document. I have also created another Crystal report which is used for the Dynamic Recipient List. The Publication is based on a data set (sample) shown below:
    Client-No.
    EMAIL
    Receipt Number
    001A1234
    [email protected]
    001234567
    001B1234
    [email protected]
    001523645
    001B1234
    [email protected]
    001452369
    001C2345
    [email protected]
    001235698
    001D2346
    [email protected]
    001852364
    001C2345
    [email protected]
    001245633
    001C2345
    [email protected]
    001756324
    001E3562
    [email protected]
    001623456
I need to send out receipts to various clients on a daily basis. Each client is identified by a unique Client Number. Sometimes there are cases when the client company can have 2 client numbers (one for each of their departments), so in the example above I have shown in green, 2 account numbers with the same email ID. On a daily basis, receipts are generated for each of the clients.
    Desired result:
I need to send out the receipts to the client email IDs, in such a way that only one email is sent per Client Number, with all corresponding Receipts attached as individual attachments. For example:
Client 001A1234 will receive one email with one attachment for receipt 001234567.
Client 001B1234 will receive one email with two attachments for receipts 001523645 & 001452369
Client 001C2345 will receive one email with 3 attachments for receipts 001235698, 001245633 & 001623456
Client 001D2346 will receive one email with one attachment for receipt 001852364
Client 001E3562 will receive one email with one attachment for receipt 001623456
When I try to schedule the publication, the following scenarios work for me:
Scheduled using the Client Number as the Reference ID in the dynamic recipient list.
Result: I get one email per client, with one attachment. That attachment has multiple pages, one receipt per page
Scheduled using the Receipt Number as Reference ID in the Dynamic recipient list
Result: I get multiple emails per client, each with one receipt attached.
These 2 solutions are quite different from the desired result. Any suggestions please?
    Thanks
    Dhivya

You need to use an html form to upload the file to the server, store it somewhere, and then reference it in your JavaMail message.  JavaMail won't help you upload the file; that's more of an html/Servlet problem.

  • Cannot "Reply To" email sent via exchange

    Specs. - SBS 2003 SP2 / IPhones 2nd generation
I have a client who I setup to receive email from their exchange server to their IPhones. No problems with send or receive. They needed to change the "reply to" address in their exchange accounts to "SmartOfficeSolutions.com". Since that happened they can receive mail but not reply to it. The email accounts are as follows: SmartOfficeSolutions.com is forwarded to AlAlpert.com.

I forgot to mention that I verified her settings were correct and had her type password in to confirm it was correct.

  • How can I get Verizon to block all outgoing messages on my email?

My email was apparently hacked, it is the main account that I have used for the past seven years and all of my bill notifications and important things come to this address.  I have changed the password repeatedly, run several scans on my main computer, laptop, kindle fire, and cell phone (every device I access the email on) using Norton and Norton Power Eraser on the computers.  Nothing showing up.
I chatted with support just now asking them to block all outgoing email and they said it isn't possible and I find that impossible to believe.  I am seeing all kinds of messages here saying that people are being blocked but I can't add an email address to that list?  I need to keep it active for inbound email for a month or so just to make sure that I haven't missed any bill notices or other important stuff.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Pretty hard to do without shutting down the account.
Assuming you have properlly changed your password, and checked your PC and other devices for viruses/trojatns/etc. Then the person using your email is probably NOT even using Verizon.  \
Unfortunately the basic SMTP protocol is totally different then most people think.  Who you say you are is not a protected value and you can say you are anyone, yes verizon's servers when initially accepting input do check, but that is about it.  And the displayed sender and addresses in the smtp protocol do not have to match any text in the mail. that you see.

  • ICloud server blocking Earthlink forwarded emails

Looks like a problem that has happened before with respect to blocking of Roadrunner emails sent to people with me.com email address has resurfaced, this time with Earthlink. I have an old Earthlink account (at least 20 years old, which I keep only because of the number of online accounts linked to this email - almost 1000), and I have email forwarding set up on it to forward all emails to my me.com account, where I can review it at home or on one of my mobile devices. It has been working well for about 8 years.
Today, however, messages sent to my earthlink.net address are being bounced back to the sender due to this error:
    host mx4.me.com.akadns.net [17.172.34.66]: 550 5.7.0 Blocked - see https://support.proofpoint.com/dnsbl-lookup.cgi?ip=207.69.195.100
It seems that the spam filtering service, proofpoint (who was at the root of the problem with roadrunner blocked emails before), has blacklisted several of Earthlink's IP addresses, probably because they were the source of some email spam. However, there are many legitimate emails also being relayed via these IP addresses, which are being blocked. I called Earthlink, and basically wasted 90 minutes talking to a level 1 tech ("try restarting your computer") and his supervisor ("it's Apple's fault, not ours"). I spoke with Apple, who was more receptive, but unable to help (escalated to iCloud engineers). I personally entered the IP information on ProofPoint's website via their online form for such inconveniences. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. Any suggestions/feedback would be appreciated.
As an aside, I wish I could just jettison Earthlink after all these years - it's an archaic system, with horrendous email. But, I just don't have the time to go to literally hunderds of websites to update my email address. Anyone have any solutions that have worked for them?
    Thanks!

Still no resolution on this issue after 48 hours. Emails forwarded from Earthlink to iCloud are still bouncing. I submitted the culprit IP addresses to Proofpoint (for me it was addresses in the range 207.69.195.98 - 207.69.195.101 - there may be many more, of course). If you haven't submitted this info to Proofpoint yet, it's probably a good idea to do so at:
    https://support.proofpoint.com/dnsbl-lookup.cgi
Enter the IP address that is being blocked (based on the email bounce message your sending parties receive), and then add your name and destination email address. Hopefully, Proofpoint will open up the corresponding IP range.
For now, I just added my Earthlink account onto my Mail.app accounts and onto to my iPhone (POP). I wish Earthlink had IMAP capability. What an archaic system!
