Dreamweaver 2004 FTP facilities

Dreamweaver 2004 FTP facilities
Hi All,
I use DW 2004. After changing the menu (which sits in the
template) it
is necessary to upload ALL html pages to make sure the menu
works on the
server.
In the past, I have tended, in such cases, to upload the
whole site
(html, images, and all) to make sure no html size is
forgotten and
because it is time-consuming to select all html pages by
hand.
However, uploading (or deletion server prior to uploading)
can take a
long time, especially because all the unnecessary images are
being uploaded.
Is there a facility in DW 2004 which enables me to upload all
and only
the html pages without having to select them one by one?
Is there any other way of handling this, including the use of
some other
FTP program which has such a utility?
Thanks for your help.
Adrian

  • Links in preview don't show template on new page in dreamweaver 2004

links in preview don't show template on new page in
    dreamweaver 2004?
I have created new html files using a template, then saved
the file with a new html name.
I preview it in my local broswer, the first page I want the
preview shows uo OK. When I click to link to a new page in my root
folder, the new page shows up, but not formatted with the template.
Why and how can I fix this?

  • Dreamweaver 2004 Won't Launch

Tried installing again and again but no luck getting
Dreamweaver 2004 to launch on my E-mac. Worked just fine prior to
installing Tiger, at least that's what it seems.
    Thoughts?

    Good morning ArtieTet,
I had the exact same problem and came across your post. I've since solved it on my computer. I'm not sure what your level of computer expertise is and whether or not you're comfortable editing your registry, so I've dumbed-down the following instructions a bit - forgive me if they're too dumbed-down!
    1. Click Start
    2. Click Run
    3. Type regedit
    4. Click the OK button
    5. Double click the HKEY_CURRENT_USER key (folder) on the left
    6. Double click the SOFTWARE key
    7. Double click the MACROMEDIA key
    8. Right click the DREAMWEAVER MX 2004 key
    9. Click Rename
    10. Type a new name for the key, such as OLD DREAMWEAVER MX 2004
    11. Press Enter
    12. Try to start Dreamweaver again
If all goes well, Dreamweaver should open and re-create that DREAMWEAVER MX 2004 registry key from scratch. There's likely some corrupt data in it, though I haven't been able to figure out what. If I do, I'll let you know.

  • Apply template to html pages in dreamweaver 2004

How do I apply a template to html pages in dreamweaver 2004?
The template has editable regoins. Will this effect it?
Why do I get an orphan message when I try to apply the
    template to new pages?

You don't want to apply templates to pages. Instead use FILE
    | New > Page
from Template > site name > template name, spawn a new
    page, and use this
page for the content. THis is not really an issue for a brand
    new page, but
if the page already has content when you apply the template,
    you'll see what
    I mean.
You are being confused by a) not understanding root relative
    vs document
relative links, and b) not understanding how DW previews
    files.
If I have a document with a link to an image that looks like
    this -
    <img src="/images/foo.gif"...
    That's what's called a root relative link.
If I preview that document in DW, then the browser gets the
    document, sees
the leading "/" and reads that as the root of the hard drive,
    since the
browser has no idea where the root of the site is. Thus, the
    image is
    broken in the preview.
If I have temp files enabled, then DW will secretly convert
    the file being
previewed into a temporary file, and hand that to the
    browser. This temp
file has had all root relative links converted to document
    relative links
(as you will see by looking at the code in the browser), and
    has had all
include files actually embedded in the page, and has had all
    external CSS
and js markup embedded in the page. In other words, DW has
    made the
    document into a stand-alone page.
If you do not have temp files enabled, all of these links
    would be broken on
    preview.
Now - if you are using root relative links, AND you have temp
    files enabled,
AND you click away from the previewed document, then all of
    your links will
be broken, since DW has not made that linked file into a temp
    file. This is
    what you are seeing.
So - if you want to click away on preview, then you must use
    document
relative links for the site -
    <img src="../images/foo.gif"... (for example)
These will still work on preview since the browser knows how
    to determine
the current file's location and how to follow that path.

  • Can DWCC use my website files created on dreamweaver 2004?

I have a website I created on dreamweaver 2004.  I have changed computers and the disc is obsolete (no way to register it anymore), therefore, I was wondering if I purchased dreamweaver cc, are my old files compatible?

HTML is still HTML and editable in any code editor.  But a LOT has changed in web standards since 2004.  The code DW MX generated was fine in its day but that was a very long time ago.
You can download a no-risk 30-day trial of DW CC.  Keep in mind that this product assumes that you know HTML and CSS code.

  • Dreamweaver's FTP suddenly broken - am I the only one?

I'm using iMacs and the Macromedia package incl. Dreamweaver. Already on the second computer, Dreamweaver's ftp stopped working - out of the blue. And without any error messages in the log file. It connects to the server, but doesn't put the file. The server settings are definitely alright.
I tried everything - today I even formatted the hard disk and re-installed everything (without using old preference files). Then I tested Dreamweaver's ftp. Working. Installed the rest (office, Adobe CS2 etc) - and the same thing happened again - dreamweaver's ftp doesn't work. Although it was working together with Adobe CS2 / office etc.
Am I the only one? Even at the Apple Store Genius Bar they couldn't help...if even re-installing the entire system doesn't help - I mean, ftp isn't a hardware problem, right?
    Any help appreciated...Thanks in advance

I haven't heard of any problems with Dreamweaver's FTP capabilities on Mac OS X Tiger. If you have Internet connectivity, it definitely wouldn't be a hardware issue. I would suggest trying a real FTP client such as Cyberduck to see if you can make an FTP connection from your computer. You can download Cyberduck from here: http://cyberduck.ch/
What exactly is Dreamweaver doing when you try to upload files via FTP? Does it give you any error messages? If so, can you post them verbatim?
Also, are you running any third party firewall or antivirus software?

  • Dreamweaver Sites - FTP - Testingserver to Remoteserver

I’m working with a little team of web-developers (3 persons).
We use a MacBook as an Apache-Webserver (PHP and MySQL).
Our Client-Developer-Tool is Dreamweaver CS 6 on each of our notebooks.
Now my question about Dreamweaver Sites:
The MacBook is our Testing-Server(local server/network), then we have a Remote-Server (FTP,Live-Server with online-version). And then each of us have a local site on Dreamweaver.
When we use FTP we want to upload from the Testing-Server directly to Live-Server!!!
Uploading from Dreamweaver’s local site doesn’t seem right – as WE are THREE persons with THREE different notebooks that run Dreamweaver with THREE different local Sites.
Do we have to use an FTP-Application like Filezilla or do anyone know if we can use Dreamweaver’s FTP-function in Sites?

Are you using File check in / check out to pull files off the remote server to your local site folders?
If you Expand the Files panel, you can transfer files from Local to Testing or Remote site.

  • No "Open with Rosetta" option for Dreamweaver 2004 MX

I have a new Intel Mini 1.66 Core Duo with 2 GB RAM and I cannot start up Dreamweaver 2004 MX 7.0.1 I tried to use Rosetta in the "get info" link but the "open with Rosetta" does not appear as an option even though it lists the "Kind: Application (PowerPC)" The program just hangs up with a "program not responding"
The program DW 2004 works fine on my PowerBook G4.
Any ideas? The program did not want to install in the Intel mini, so I had to copy the install file (*.sea) over top of stuffit to get it to install.
    Please help.
    Thanks

I tried to use Rosetta in the "get info" link but the "open with Rosetta" does not appear as an option even though it lists the "Kind: Application (PowerPC)" The program just hangs up with a "program not responding"
This option will only appear when an application's kind is reported as being Application (Universal) and you are using an Intel Mac, as this is the only configuration which gives you the option to choose between architectures, and the checkbox only appears when running both architectures is possible with a given application on your model of Mac. If you are using a PowerPC-only application on an Intel Mac or a PowerPC or Universal application on a PowerPC Mac, only the PowerPC code can be executed, and the Open with Rosetta checkbox will not appear.

  • I have been using Macromedia Dreamweaver 2004 demo software for 1 months,

i have been using Macromedia Dreamweaver 2004 demosoftware for 1 months, but now his expire date is over,i have to use this continous,
    how? can we extend days?

You can't. Trial software is intended to give you the opportunity to evaluat the software to decide whether it suits your needs. If it does, you have to buy a licence to continue using it. Dreamweaver MX 2004 is no longer on sale, so you would need to buy a licence for Dreamweaver CS4.

  • Does Dreamweaver not FTP very well?

For about two weeks I've started having problems putting (FTPing) revised pages to my website. About one of each 12 attempts fails. Never happened before. After a number of tests, my site host and I figured it wasn't the hosting server. They suggest maybe my ISP, but I'm still waiting for a response from tech support. I've heard a couple of people say Dreamweaver's FTP capabilities are not that good. I've received two types of errors. Either a simple message saying the attempt timed out, or a new one today saying "An FTP error occured - cannot get server folder information. Dreamweaver encountered a network or file system error. Please try the operationi again, and contact the administrator if the error continues to occur." By the way, as soon as I saw that, I ran a ping test and got these results:
        Packets: Sent = 20, Received = 20, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 197ms, Maximum = 1461ms, Average = 265ms

    Hi,
in addition to Nancy O.'s hint: I personally prefer to upload my files and sometimes for the opposite way, for a necessary download from my server, by using filezilla. It simply looks easier for me to keep track of all operations precisely and generate or reflect easily the desired tree structure.
Above all, FileZilla has a feature (translation from my German FileZilla) called "compare file list". Here it's possible to use file size or modification time as a criterion. There is also the possibility to "hide identical files", so that only these files which you want to redact remain visible.
And even if it means you have to install a new program, I am convinced that there is an advantage. Here is the link to get it and where you can read informations about how it works:
    http://filezilla-project.org/ and
    http://wiki.filezilla-project.org/Tutorial#Using_the_site_manager
    Mac: Mac OS X
    http://filezilla-project.org/download.php
Of course, you also need all the access data to reach your server.

  • Dreamweaver 2004

My old laptop died and I am trying to setup my new one.  I have installed Dreamweaver 2004 but cannot activate because the activation server has been shut down.  Are there any files from the old laptop that might contain the activation codes that I need or is there any other way to use my licensed software?

10+ year old software is obsolete & apt to be incompatible with  newer operating systems.  You might want to  get DW CS6 or DW CC instead.

  • Dreamweaver 2004 Upgrade needed?

I have been happily using Dreamweaver 2004 for a couple of
years, and I am one of those forever beginner types. I have
received lots of help from Murray and others on this forum and I am
still absorbing the basics - or so it seems.
I am about to design a couple of new sites and I am
    wondering:
Are there any big reasons to upgrade Dreamweaver for someone
such as myself who is only using maybe 5% of the 2004 version's
    features?
Is the new version easier/ more intuitive to use or does it
    simply have more features?

How so? The menus are the same....

  • DreamWeaver CS3 FTP suddenly stops working

About a week ago DreamWeaver's FTP stopped working, for any
of the 25 plus sites I have set up in it. I control the server I am
trying to FTP to, so I know none of the passwords or anything else
has changed. All of the sites have the same error when trying to
    connect, which is:
"An FTP error occurred - cannot open remote folder
/public_html/. Access denied. The file may not exist, or there
    could be a permission problem."
Well the folder does exist, as nothing has changed. I am able
to FTP fine with other FTP apps including CuteFTP, so I know this
is a DreamWeaver specific problem. I tried reinstalling / repairing
DreamWeaver from disc to no avail.
    Thanks for any help.....

I'd like to chime in too if I may. Dreamweaver is a very
reliable software client but can anyone really backtrack to the
point where ftp puts GUI to shame? Forgive me but I'm stuck using
Dreamweaver as my sole island of hope for all client/ server
transactions.. I'm not even interested in using one of those 'mini'
clients who's functionality do make your head spin! I'm somewhat of
a freestyle learner so maybe that explains why I've never seen the
host-server designated "public" folder renamed as "public_html"???
I don't even think my webhost would let me rename that folder as
    such, I hope that helps!
    Thanks,

  • When will Adobe fix Dreamweaver's FTP module?

Dreamweaver's FTP module has sucked really bad ever since I started using it back in version 3 when Macromedia owned it.
I use passive FTP mode and have tried every other trick and method suggested to me over the years but here is my problem.
Fetch works perfectly, ALL of the time... The only time I get a problem with a server timing out, it is because the server ACTUALLY TIMED OUT or was unavailable.
95% of the time with Dreamweaver's crappy FTP client, I have to constantly disconnect and re-connect to EVERY ftp server I connect to, in order to get the stupid timeout status bar to stop displaying over and over again. Dreamweaver constantly times out when uploading even a single file to an FTP server, and sits there hanging up on the connection over and over again.
I am greatly disappointed that version CS4 is just as crummy as all previous versions of Dreamweaver.
Just Google "Dreamweaver FTP sucks" and you will see I am not alone with my dislike of this FTP client.
I will continue to use Fetch for most of my needs, but it would be convenient to be able to use the "PUT" button in dreamweaver from time to time without locking up the program in the process.

Wow, a lot of response since that original post.
I've been a web professional for the last 13 years and have been using Dreamweaver since version 2. The FTP client has always been a buggy "POS." I have worked with tons of developers and designers who all agree, that is why pros use a dedicated FTP client like FileZilla in tandem.
I just think it would be nice to be able to hit the "put" button while I am working on a file without having to wait for timeouts and all the garbage that happens in Dreamweaver. There really is no rhyme or reason why these timeout errors happen to me, but I have found over the years that certain FTP sites and / or networks I am on will give me more problems than others.
What is consistent though is that EVERY TIME I have one of these problems in Dreamweaver I can jump to FileZilla and upload the same file without any problems at all.
Now, my question — Is it really THAT difficult for Adobe to create a reliable FTP sub-program inside of Dreamweaver since they have had several years since they bought Macromedia to do so? You would think it not to be that difficult considering the complexity of most of the software in their suite.
All of the file management in Dreamweaver sucks. Their implementation of SVN is pretty much completely useless as I have tried using it more than once and always revert back to command line or Cornerstone to do my version control. I can't imagine the future rollout of FTPS to actually work at this point.
Other than those issues I really like dreamweaver but I am getting to the point I may just jump ship and use a code editor like BBedit or something along those lines. Its hard to break old habbits and the workflow you are used to though.
Has anyone tried out CS 5.5? Is it any better? I am running CS 5 and there is no difference in the FTP client from previous versions in that respect.
    -peace-
