/ / / Dreamweaver 8.0 Troubles :/ / /

Hello,
not sure if im posting near the right place. (if anyone can direct me if i'm wrong that'd be great :))
so, i've been able to use Dreamweaver regularly for months, though it's been a while since i've used it. today i went to open it from the Applications folder, and it was gone. i used Spotlight to search, and fouind it. i opened it, then closed it because i had somewhere to go. i came back an hour or so later. when i open it now, it starts to open, then i get a box that opens and says nothing. (literally nothing located in it, just a Dreamweaver Logo with a Yellow caution sign & "!" mark, and no text) i restarted the computer, but had the same result.
i'm kind of lost here. have no idea what i may have done, or what happened, or more importantly, how to fix it. any help would be greatly appreciated.
thank you
ryan

There is no javascript VM. JAVA requires a VM, but
Dreamweaver doesn't make
it.
It likely refers to Virtual Memory (dependant on your hard
drive...is your
Hard Drive close to being full?)

  • Dreamweaver template / having trouble seeing the previews

I am designing a website, using Dreamweaver for the first
time, and I would like to ask your advice.
Do you know how to apply a dreamweaver template to other html
pages. I have having trouble seeing the previews in the local
browser. For examples, when I preview an html page, that has the
template included, I see the page OK. But when I click to go to
another page with the sample template, the new page shows up, but
    without the template design included.

Answered mutliple times on the DW forum.

  • Dreamweaver MX2004 save trouble

    Hi all,
I have loaded dreamweaver MX2004 on my new Windows Vista
machine to maintain my website. All set up ok. However when I open
and edit a page and save it, it now saves to my hard drive and not
to the remote server. If i try 'save as' it only gives me options
on my machine and not a file list from the website. It wasn't like
this before on my Windows XP machine.
Any suggestions please. Can i configure it to save the files
back to where they were loaded from, ie the website? Is this
    something I am doing wrong?
    Thanks in advance
    Barry

If your site is an FTP & RDS site, it will save the files
    directly to the
server. If it's not saving the files directly to the server,
    then it cannot
be an FTP & RDS site. Tell me this - when you look at
    this site's name in
the site list of the Files panel, do you see a folder or do
    you
see a computer icon? If you see a folder, then your site is
    what you would
get if you did NEW SITE | Site, and if it's a computer icon,
    then it's what
you would get if you did NEW SITE | FTP & RDS Server. If
    your site is the
former, then just create a new site definition, and make sure
    you select the
    FTP & RDS type.
BUT BEWARE. One silly mistake and you are a dead duck.

  • Dreamweaver Placement Issue

I'm working on building myself a nifty little website using HTML and CSS.  Frankly, I don't think it's too fancy... but I seem to be having an alignment problem when using the WYSIWYG browser in Dreamweaver CS3.
I've tested the code and it works fine across all browsers (except Netscape 9... but that's another story).  I have a header, a main body section, and then a footer.  The header is independent from the rest, but the main and the footer share a common DIV.
I've set up the code so that the content in the main section pushes the footer section down, leaving the footer always at the bottom of the page (although, not a sticky footer).
I think because I've made the main section with <height:100% min-height:500px;> type instructions, Dreamweaver is having trouble placing the footer.  In the WYSIWYG editor, it shows the header properly placed and the main content under it.  But it floats (literally, not code wise) the footer on top of everything at the top of the editor.  In fact, part of it (a border that juts into the main section using positioning) is completely off the top of the screen!
So my question is, how do I get Dreamweaver's editor to make it look correct in WYSIWYG mode?  This is nothing but for my own benefit, and to figure out what's going on, and why it's acting so awkward.  Is it simply that Dreamweaver can't process the "min-height"?  Or is it something to do with how it figures positioning?
    Me = Confused.
(PS- I can post my code here if you think it will help... but my site isn't live yet, and a host hasn't been purchased... so I don't have any links to demonstrate the problem with yet.)

I have this problem all the time. Mostly I just live with it. Dreamweaver does not do a great job of rendering layout css.
Very likely you can fix it by putting in a clear: both.
Depending on how you have things set up, you may need to do it one of several ways:
    #footer {
    clear:both;
May work, or you might need to add another div inside whatever is above the footer like so:
    <div id="main-content">
       <div id="something that has a float"> floated content </div>
       <div class="something else that has a float"> floated content  </div>
       <div style="clear: both; height: 1px;"> </div>
    </div>
    <div id="footer"> footer content </div>
    Or possibly:
    <div id="main-content">
       <div  id="something that has a float"> floated content </div>
        <div class="something else that has a float"> floated content  </div>
    </div>
    <div style="clear: both;  height: 1px;"> </div>
    <div  id="footer"> footer content </div>
OR you may need to add overflow: hidden, position relative or some such, though these are usually only needed when it is also need for proper rendering in one or another actual browser. Usually, for an exampl;e like the above, it would be:
    #main-content {overflow: hidden;}

  • Dreamweaver shows page incorrectly

Out of curiosity, I downloaded a trial version of Dreamweaver
CS and viewed one of my webpages
    http://www.orthohelp.com/geneal/sefardim.htm
to see how Dreamweaver works. To my shock and surprise, in
Dreamweaver CS3 only the right column (How to start, etc.) shows on
the preview panel. Yet this page opens correctly in both IE6 and
Firefox and also when I ask DW to send it to the browser! Why does
    Dreamweaver show it only partially?
In case people think my HTML code is at fault. I tested the
same webpage and it shows correctly in Namo WebEdit which is
another WYSWYG HTML editor, as well as several other HTML editors.
Also opens correctly in Firefox and in IE6. So it is peculiar that
Dreamweaver is having trouble opening it correctly. Is this a known
    bug in DW?

You just weren't aware of what DID change, and it's a biggie.
Any content ABOVE the <html> tag will cause your page
    to render in quirks
mode in IE. Quirks mode means that you inherit all of the
    legendary HTML
rendering errors that IE is famous for. Looking at your code,
    I wouldn't
think it will make a big difference. BUT - fixing the
    validation errors
    certainly will.

  • Dreamweaver keeps disconnecting from website

After a short amount of time, Dreamweaver suddenly has trouble uploading files to my sites.
The only way to prevent this is constantly upload something.
As soon as I stop uploading, after a few minutes, the trouble begins.
When I try to upload a new file, Dreamweaver just sits there seems to be trying over and over to upload but nothing happens.
It's now been my regular routine, for years now, to Force Quit DW and start it up again so that it will be able to upload again.
Every now and then I ask around about this, but no one seems to know what I'm talking about. This happens on my home machine and also my work machine.
    Any ideas?
    I'm using Dreamweaver CS6.

    John Stanowski wrote:
I don't work locally because DW is just a mess with that.
Sorry, this line "does not compute" for me. This is literally the only reason I use DW.
I almost never use Design View and work almost exclusively with the source code. I never use DWs built in javascript, templates or library items (though I do use the Snippets feature). Without the DW Site Definition and it's local file management capabilities, I would honestly be using Notepad to put sites together and Filezilla for uploading.
    But I digress.
If you are running into the problem even if you connect/disconnect regularly, it makes me think you're probably right, and it's not timeout related.
Could you explain your workflow in detail so we can get a clear picture of how you're using the program?
Maybe there is something in it that can be tweeked to make DW behave for you.

  • Bridge Delaying Dreamweaver Browser Preview

I have noticed that when Adobe Bridge is open, Dreamweaver
CS3 has trouble previewing in my Firefox browser (have not tried
other browsers). When I preview, the hour glass appears for 20-30
seconds and then, finally the preview appears in the browser.
With Bridge closed the preview displays immediately without
    delay.
I like to work with Photoshop, Bridge, and Dreamweaver open
at the same time so it is kind of a slow down to have to close
bridge when I do a lot of previews (and I do A LOT of previews).

Same problem in IE7 preview as well. Running Windows XP SP2
Other apps can be open (such as After Effects or Premiere
Pro) with no problem. I only get this with Bridge running.
Open Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Bridge. Then use the browser
preview globe button in Dreamweaver to preview to a browser. If you
don't get a long delay, then I have something else going on I
    guess.

Sorry, but your CSS is has been mangled beyound recognition.
The solution is to start with an untouched style sheet. Then add or modify the CSS testing in your browsers as you make the changes.
Have a look at the following where I have positioned the menu. All that is now required is the styling for font and the hover event.

  • Uploaded html code is reformatted disabling javascript functionality

I've asked this before but not had a comprehensive resolution.
This issue began when I moved from my apple powerpc running OSX 10.5.8 to an imac running 10.7.3 and for the reasons you'll see I'm sure this is connected with mac OS than dreamweaver, but I would appreciate any feedback from anyone else who has experienced this problem.
    The Problem:
The code in html files uploaded using dreamweaver or filezilla get reformatted into one continuous line. In itself this is not a problem until javascript is included. Javascript won't function without linebreaks and so menus and galleries all stop functioning. If I download the file I can reformat the page but that doesn't stop the problem. The source code as viewed in the browser is one continuous line and that's what the browser seems to be reading.
    Work around
My work around so far has involved connecting my drive up to my old machine and uploading  javascripts from there (using filezilla, dreamweaver4 for powerpc or even dreamweaver 8). Trouble is, my powerpc power unit has now died and I don't have that option, and occasionally I actually would like to see the javascript or spry references in the document and not buried in server side includes.
So all this would suggest that it's not a dreamweaver issue. All the files are created using dreamweaver 5.5 and upload perfectly well using older versions or filezilla as long as I use an older apple OSX. It seems to center on the OS.
    Has anybody else had this?
    Simon

I don't think the code rewriting settings would be a factor in your particular issue (though I'll never say never) but line break type could well be an cause. Depending on the web server, it may well treat some LF endings incorrectly. If your web server technical staff can't help, you might try experimenting with the other setttings and see if one of the other settings works correctly. UNIX-style endings are the most common, but your server might want something different.
    Regards.

Having trouble with dreamweaver cs 6 spry tabbed panels, all content in each tab showes through like it was all created on one page, plus mouse over doesnt work on them.
This started all of a sudden.
The entire website is a series of spry tabbed panels.

if you click on General construction tab things work ok...
if you click on Machine control tab, mouse over doesnt work and all page content of each tab show through.

Hope a fellow dreamwever-person can help
    Thanks Rick

You called it: your links to the SpryAssets are linking to your hard drive, not to the files within the folder on the server.
    Correct these links:
    <script src="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
    <link href="file:///C:/Users/work/Desktop/Sites/SpryAssets/SpryTabbedPanels.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
And you should be good to go.

ps. If you run into more difficulties with the Spry Widgets, take your questions to the Dreamweaver Spry Forum http://forums.adobe.com/community/labs/spry, where they will get quicker attention.

  • Margin trouble with a Flash object in Dreamweaver.

    Hi everyone,
I am having trouble with the top and bottom margins of a banner created in Flash and then inserted into Dreamweaver. I thought I had done the proper zero margin adjustments, I usually use IE8 and everything looked fine.
However, when viewing the page with IE in some (not all) other computers a red (background color) line appears accross the white frame at the top and another one interrupting the shadow at the bottom of the banner. Not sure whether the difference was the IE version or a question of settings.
Any ideas as to what may be causing this problem and how I to solve it?
Also, in Safari and Chrome everything looks good, but with Firefox (version 3.5.1) for some reason the white bottom margin within the banner's frame is bigger than the top. Not as big a deal as the first problem, but I guess they are probably related.
Here is the link to the page in question: http://www.migtraducciones.com.ar/who_we_are.html
Thanks in advance for any helpful hints.
    Regards,
    Eduardo.

    Thanks for your answer.
I mean that I can't find the folder to authorize. I will be more clear: this is the dialog box (it's in italian, but you all know what is about).
How can I tell Flash Player to authorize the iWeb widget folder if I can't find it in my Mac?
    I'm under Mac, OS X 10.6.7.

  • Trouble Creating Forms in Dreamweaver

    Hello,
I am having trouble creating a form in Dreamweaver for my website.  The form is fairly basic, just some contact/comment input required.
I created my webpages using Fireworks CS4 and exported them as HTML and Images.  The basic format of my website is to have a rectangular block in the middle of the page, where the form elements are supposed to be entered.  However, it seems that I cannot simply add a textbox or textarea to the middle of my page.  If I try, everything gets shifted around very strangely.
How can I leave the format of the page intact, but add in the form elements (name, email, comments)?
You can see the page here: http://www.wafflesnjoe.com/preview/contact.htm
    Thank you

Thanks Murray, I had a feeling that that's where I'd be headed.
Is there a more seamless way of transferring webpages from Fireworks to Dreamweaver, such as CSS and Images, that would make it easier for me to work in Dreamweaver?
Would you recommend building websites in Dreamweaver, and not bother with Fireworks?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'm a newbie.

Subject: Trouble Creating Forms in Dreamweaver
I'm not very familiar with Dreamweaver, so this may be a basic question to ask.
The trick is to be familiar with HTML, not DW, since HTML underlies everything that DW does, and that you want to do on a web page.
To add a form to a page without disrupting the layout of the page, you have to a) select a layout design that constitutes good practice, and b) build the layout so that it accommodates the form.  I know that's not a very satisfactory answer.
First of all, unless you are fairly familiar with HTML, your layout will not be easy to implement because you will need to constrain the form and its elements to fit vertically within that central area.  This is not so easy because you have no way of controlling how large or small I (as a visitor) am displaying my text in my browser.  Thus, that form's content is going to expand or contract vertically causing the boxed area to need to expand or contract accordingly.  This is layout 101 for an experienced developer, but may just push you over the edge if you have no HTML under your belt.  So, I would discourage you from trying to use this design.  Is that possible?

  • Trouble with Streaming Video in Dreamweaver 8

    Hello,
I am having trouble inserting a streaming FLV into a CFM page
via Dreamweaver. I have successfully done this using Flash 8
Pro’s FLVPlayback component. I think the problem is my
syntax, but I could be wrong.
Here is what I used in Flash that is currently working:
    - contentPath: rtmp://serverIPAddress/loadTest/test.flv
Here is what I’ve been trying to do in Dreamweaver via
the GUI when choosing Insert > Media > Flash Video >
    Streaming video:
    - Server URI: rtmp://10.64.189.66/loadTest/myLoadTest
(Note: myLoadTest is the new instance name that I gave
    loadTest in the FMS console.)
    - Stream name: test.flv or test
When I do the above in Dreamweaver and try to auto detect the
dimensions of the FLV it just times out and give an error message.
I put in some values and ran the file anyway and it does nothing.
If anyone can help figure out what I’m doing wrong I
    will be greatly appreciative!! :)
    Thanks,
    Eric

Having the same exact problem you are. One thing you might
check that I have also done to no avail, is to be sure your MIME
extensions are added to your webserver (IIS or Apache). That seems
to be a common mistake and if that doesn't help you, it will at
least tackle the next problem you might encounter.

I uninstalled and went to preferences/file types editors to set up ps6 as primary but I still get some error. After i click image in dreamweaver,I get this message-Unable to launch...Please be sure that application exists and that there is enough memory to run it..

Can you Launch Photoshop normally from your desktop shortcuts?
I usually keep DW and PS open at all times so I can switch back & forth.
