Dreamweaver 8 a good buy?

Greetings,
I've read that the best way to embed video on a webpage for all browsers is to embed flv files.  If I create Quicktime files using Premiere Elements 7, can I embed them in an flv skin using Dreamweaver 8?  I read reviews of DW 8 so I know it will not create flv files.
Do I need DW 8 or something like it to embed QY movies?
P.S.  I chose DW 8 because it's affordable.  I'm not in the web design business so I can't justify paying $600+ for software.
Thanks,
Antoinette

DW 8 is 3 versions older than CS5 and a lot has changed in web design standards since it came out.  Honestly though, you can use any text or HTML editor (Notepad, noteTab, notePad plus...) to build web pages.  The only pre-requisite is knowing HTML, CSS and JavaScript code -- which you can start learning on your own at the link below:
http://w3schools.com/
DW is pro-level web development software.  So it can do as little or as much as your skill-set allows.  If you're building a hobby site, and code isn't your cup of tea, you might get better milage from a consumer level product like the ones below.

  • Looking for my first Mac! I have my eye on a 2006 MacBook... $259.. Is this a good buy? I just want to be able to write essays and check social media and email.

help!!! My tech savvy on a scale of 1-10 is a straight up 1. And a half.. Anyways.. Is this a good buy? It's on amazon.. Do you think that's a trustworthy place to. It from?

That's good to know... has not being able to update really hindered you? I understand that a lot of Mac users want Apple because they do a bunch of editing and graphic designing... I am not at all into that. I am a Physical Education major (aka: a lot of essays!!), and I write as a hobby. So that is all I want this computer for. What do you think??

  • Which package of dreamweaver should I buy for my local scout association? Personal? smallbusiness? It's only user will be me

    Hello,
I want to create a webpage for my local scout association, and I would like to use dreamweaver to do it.
It's not something I will get paid for.
But I can not figure out which package I need to buy.
Because it is only me who will be using it, and therefore I thought it should be a personal license.
But I am also a student at university college of northern, therefore I thought it should be a Student license.
but maybe I'm wrong and it should be a license for a small business?
Can anybody please explains to me which package I need to buy?
In advance thank you for your time :-)
    //Lars

if you can qualify as a student, getting a student license is less expensive (but more of a hassle to obtain because of documentation needed).
otherwise, you would get a personal/individual license.

  • Good Buy? -New MAC user-

    Hello MAC world.
Ok, so here is the lowdown. I recently decided to buy my first Mac computer, so where better to look for an affordable Mac (for a 17 year old) than on Ebay. Im on this forum to ask some Mac veterans if I made a good purchase. BTW it is shipping right now and should come in this Thursday or Friday!!!
    Here are the specs.
Model: Apple G3 iMac Clamshell Indigo SE/Firewire Ed.
OS: Mac OS X 10.3.9 Panther
    Processor: G3 366mhz PowerPC
Ram: 128mb (I believe half of it is soldiered to Logic board and half is a SO-DIMM?
Hard Drive: 120 Gb Seagate Momentus HD
Graphics: ATi Pro Rage 128 8mb card
    Optical Drive: Tray Loading CD-ROM
Ports: USB 1.1, Firewire, Modem, Ethernet, SoundOut/Video Out???
    Apple Airport b wireless Card!!!!
I paid about $275.00 US dollars for it!
Battery holds some charge, but a friend told me they can be reset somehow? A PMU or something, I honestly dont know.
Also, Original YO-YO adapter, Manuals, ect...
I pretty much bought it for net surfing, iPod sinc, and basic office stuff. I wanted to know if I made good for my money and to what extent the Ram can be upgraded! Any additional help or info would be helpful!!!
    Thanks!!!!

    Hello,
OS X can be fickle about the quality of RAM in use. Buy from a Mac-friendly supplier, with lifetime warranty and good returns policy.
    http://www.ramseeker.com/memory/iBook-512mb/
    This is a 7-year old computer, I wouldn't bother with a DVD-burner.
The iBook clamshell doesn't have a separate PRAM battery 9the only Mac that doesn't AFAIK) so a good main battery is important. Resetting the PMU is no going to restore the battery to former life.
You have the absolutely lowest spec Mac that officially supports Tiger.
Check out the included AppleWorks on the iBooks isn't bad given it's target audience but lacks Office compatibility. Check out NeoOffice (link).
Newer iPods will be very slow to sync on your iBook due to it's USB1.1 port. Luckily with an iPod Classic the size of internal drive means you won't be changing the content often.
    cheers

LOL Didn't you know that no overclocker is ever happy with any parts??? They never allow them to acheive the ultimate 300% overclock they are always after... I have yet to meet an overclocker that actually liked their parts and peices. It is usually the MB they blaim no matter what other junk they have in the system. It is just the way of the world. Read any tech forum and look at who is doing the screaming and why.
Simply put at normal speeds things work well for most anyone if they have stuff set up properly. Once you enter the dark hallways of the overclocker though you are more often on your own and you better know what you are doing or have a fat wallot. Overclockers tend to change parts out more often than Bill Gates changes his socks.
That is not to say that it isn't fun to push the envelope a bit or shoot for that next level.  Follow the dark side and you can acheive greatness or end in smoking rubble. Just remember though that is more on you to acheive that goal than on any parts maker and you will be set into the right mindset.

  • I am planning to buy mac mini 2.5Gzh. I will be using it mainly for video editing and I am planning to upgrade up to 8GB. Is it a good buy or should I try some other alternative.

I am planning to buy my next desktop. I will be using this mainly for video editing. I am not a professional video editor, I normally do home made videos for youtube, like tutorial, DIY project etc. I use Nikon D3100 camera and some basic green screen techniques as part of recording. So my basic video editing would be just syncing audio, editing videos to cut un-necessary frames etc and some basic effects. I am also planning to buy final cut pro.
So my question is should I buy the mac mini or Imac?

    Great advice from RRFS!
For video editing, do go for 16 GB of RAM ffrom OWC & consider the twice as fast i7 2.6 model, see Geekbench scores here..

  • Satellite Pro U400-23M - a good buy?

I'm thinking of buying a Satellite Pro U400-23M. I currently have [Satellite P100-208|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/SUPPORTSECTION/discontinuedProductPage.do?service=UK&DISC_MODEL=0 &ACTION=PRINT_WITH_BACK&com.broadvision.session.ne w=Yes&PRODUCT_ID=122152] and I'm tired of the hazzle of carrying a 17" inch laptop around, it's also quite noisy.
I just wanted to get a feedback from you guys on the U400-23M series. Here are the specifications:
    • Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 2.0GHz, 2MB
    • 13.3" WXGA TruBrite® 1280x800
    • 4GB DDR2 800MHz - max 8GB
    • 160GB Serial-ATA 5400rpm. S.M.A.R.T.
    • 8x DVD burner ±RW Dual Layer
    • Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
    • 24-bit stereo High Definition
    • 10/100 ethernet adapter and 56k modem
    • Wireless 54Mbps 802.11a/g
    • Li-ion battery, battery life up to 3 hours (Mobile Mark 2007)
    • Bluetooth, 3x USB2, FireWire, eSATA
    • Built-in 1.3 megapixel webcam
    • 5in1 card reader
    • Input for audio and microphone
    • OS: Windows Vista Business(standard) with the option of Windows XP Professional
    • Weighs only 2.0kg (about 4 pounds)
    • 2 year worldwide warranty
I have a few questions to you guys who own a U400 laptop.
Does this computer support 64bit processing? I'm not sure if the Vista operating system which is included is 32-bit or 64-bit.
Does it run quietly and cool when surfing the web, typing in Word and under easy workload like that? Does it get very loud and hot if it's running more demanding programs like Photoshop CS3?
I know this video card is not ment for gaming, but does it handle older games like Call of Duty 4?
Do you recommend this laptop? I tried searching the internet for reviews but I couldn't find any for the U400-23M model. What are the pros and cons on this laptop?

    Hi mate
I dont have the Satellite Pro U400-23M but Im a owner of the Satellite U400-10N.
I use it in my office any I love this small baby.
You should know that the U400 has 13.3display and its smaller as the P100.
So you would notice definitely a difference.
A friend of mine said that 13.3 would be too small for him but for me its optimal. I can take it everywhere and sometimes Im working while traveling around the world
    So Im very satisfied.
Ive installed Win XP on this U400 and its functions perfectly!
But you can install Vista 64bit too. The Satellite Pro U400-23M uses the Intel Core 2 Duo T5870 CPU which supports 64bit
But note; the U400 is not really a hardcore gaming notebook.
My U400 supports an Intel graphic chip and usually I use it only for office applications, (web) graphic design and web browsing.

  • Is Dual 1.25 Ghz MDD still a good buy?

I have a B/W G3 as a second computer that I like for the expandability. I have upgraded the processor to 500Ghz with a Sonnet ZIF card. A 1.0 Ghz Zif card is $300. Would a MDD Dual 1.25 Ghz be a better buy?
My other computer is an original Mac mini (1.25) that is passable for most home use but I do do some freelance graphic design and I play around with Reason and Logic Express as a hobby.
What do current users of this model think of it's current value and usefulness? I see some models available at around $600 from PowerMax and about half that on eBay.
    Thanks.

My advice would be not spend another penny on the B/W. I had one too, expanded/upgraded to limits and confronted that same CPU issue years ago with the only thing really better than the 500MHz ZIF being that Sonnet.
$300 is not well spent on that Mac. They have all sorts of little glitches and limitations. It doesn't have an AGP slot for graphics cards (severly limiting your choices and ability to run applications like FCP, Motion, etc); flaky ATA chip (rev. 1); flaky FW; a bug that limits bandwidth with PCI cards; and a bug that affects CPU upgrades.
In order for that 1.Ghz ZIF to work, Sonnet has to downclock the system bus from 100MHz to 66MHz, effectively turning the B/W into a Beige. (That problem led to the demise of the upgrade manufacturer XLR8 (assets later sold to Daystar) as they tried in vain to produce a Dual CPU upgrade). The Dual 1.25 MDD would has a 167MHz FSB along with AGP slot, etc.
Warts and all, I really liked mine and had a blast upgrading it -- but at a certain point you've got to let it go. I traded it in for a DA years ago (when Apple offered the first G5s and the last MDDs). I upgraded that DA over time (suited my budget), but at the end of last year its GigaDesigns 1.33GHz dual upgrade went down -- I think it burnt a CPU. Should have bought a new MDD after all back then.
Similar to your current situation I priced new upgrades for my DA, anywhere from $300 up. I didn't think that was the best use of the cash either since for a little more I could buy an MDD with its advantages like faster FSB with some models (DA have 133MHz FSB), 2 optical drives, and doesn't have some bugs that my DA has affecting some graphics and storage cards. My requirement is to have one 9.x-booting machine. I use my MBP alot.
It's a long story, but I now have two MDDs -- one of which is a 1.25 Dual. That one got pieced together a bit -- I've been bit by the upgrade/tinkering bug -- so it's not yet in production but it's close. Each of those MDD alone will cost around or less than the price of DA upgrade, and that dual 1.25 is a bit better machine than the DA, and a lot better than your B/W even with a 1Ghz Sonnet.
If I balked at getting an upgrade for my DA (which is much better Mac than your B/W), I think you shouldn't spend money on yours. That $300 you're considering is better spent on new used Mac. A Dual 1.25 seem like solid Mac based on my testing so far with the one I have. Even say a dual 1GHz Quicksilver is a better place to put $300.

He asked BECAUSE you didn't mention which phone you have.  Also most of the new android phones sold today have ICS or JB on them.
There are spaces for some android phones made by Samsung.  Not all of them including ones from other manufacturers like HTC, Pantech and Motorola have the forum traffic to justify having their own space on the community forum.  For example, some of the Samsung phone spaces are Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Galaxy S III Mini or use Android for the other Samsung phones not listed.

  • Group or package free goods problem

    Dear gentlemen
We need to issue the following type of free goods: buy goods A, B and C and get D for free. We need to consider our A-B-C as a package, just like a single good. How can we enter master data for this free goods type?

    Hi carlos
I think in free goods it is not possible . we can fulfill your requirement through bonus buy functionality.
But bonus buy works in IS -RETAIL . It doesn't work in SD .
If we have to fulfill our requirement then we have to go for enhancements

You are due for a new build or pre-built, most definitely.
you should be able to hit score of 14k on 6-core w/o trouble.
And for what you can get for £1799 - £2099 I think you could build one, but start with quality parts and go with a solid foundation that will be supported for years. As long as you don't need OS X as it stands.
the mac pro use to shine when it came to dual processor setups. Custom built dual PCs can be another matter, and not for faint of heart.
Choose current socket support, processor, and motherboard and you really are set for years and can upgrade from there.
Take a look at this for a start:

  • Item category for free goods that does not require extra free goods

    Hi all,
I have created 3 item categories (ZM1J, ZM0J and ZMFJ)
ZM1J is standard item for sales
    ZM0J is free goods
    ZMFJ is also free goods
I have setup VBN1 for free goods "buy 10 get 1 free" and my order is including these 3 item categories
ZM1J 10 EA and ZM0J 1 EA. These 2 lines are correct as I need.
Then I give other free goods which is ZMFJ 10 EA and system is asking me to give free goods 1 EA but I don't want to give free goods for ZMFJ. I will deliver only 21 EA (10 for sales and 11 for free)
What config it should do for this case?
Another question, ZM0J is selected by default. How to manually change it to ZMFJ in sales order?  This is because some case, I still need to use ZM0J.
Please advise. Thank you very much.
    Best Regards,
    Darin

    Hi,
Item category is determined by the four combination
Sales order + item category group + usage + item category at higher level.
Now you are using free goods determination procedure.
So that does not depend upon item category determination.
You have to define the item category determination so that proper delivery and proper pricing happens.
Now if you are giving 10more free item for which you have maintain free goods determination master data.
Then system will automatically give one more free goods for that material.
but if you giving some other material as a free goods then please let me know.
Give your requirement that in which way you want to process your ZMFJ then we can give you better suggestion.
To define alternative item category go to
IMG u2013 SD u2013 Sales u2013 Sales documents u2013 sales document item u2013 assign item category.
Over here you can assign alternative item category for your combination.
If you assign over here then you can change manually in the sales order.

  • Lines around type and other type/text problems in Dreamweaver CS3

    Dear Dreamweaver forum:
    Good news/bad news,
    First the good news…
My thanks to a forum member by the name of Mylenium. With Mylenium's advice I have improved my halo problem by including a black background when I save type in Illustrator CS3 as part of importing it into Dreamweaver CS3.
However, the bad news, is that I’m still having type and text problems.
    Problem area 1
Now, in Dreamweaver, I’m getting lines appearing around the type.
I am dragging and dropping the .gif type file into a Dreamweaver Div Tag.
How do I get rid of the lines around the type so that they do not show up in the Safari browser?
    (Please see below)
    Problem area 2
I cannot drag and drop text from a Word .doc file into a Dreamweaver div tag.
I also cannot copy and paste Word .doc text into a div tag.
How do I include text on my webpage without having to manually type it in?
    (Please see below)
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
From within Dreamweaver CS3, how do I place text? Dragging and droppign the file does not work.
This is screenshot of what I see so far when I use Safari to test what I have made so far in Dreamweaver CS3.
I get lines around type.........not usually a good thing.........How do I fix it?
The way I created the portfolio type in IllustratorCS3 using the File > Save for Web and Devices. I then imported the resulting .gif file so that it was within my root folder within the Files panel within Dreamweaver CS3.
    Am I doing this right?

    Hi
The problems you are experiencing with the image text, (why are you using image text, these days?) is probably cause by the image having a border when created in illustrator, or the image size being set incorrectly.
As for the word text if you are using windows, see http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/9.0/help.html?content=WSc78c5058ca073340dcda91 10b1f693f21-7ce6.html.
On the mac it is a little more complex, save your word doc as html, then apply the 'clean up word html files', (see - http://livedocs.adobe.com/en_US/Dreamweaver/9.0/help.html?content=WSc78c5058ca073340dcda91 10b1f693f21-7ef5.html) copy the relevant text and mark-up from the word html file, and paste into your html document in the required position.
